3 Months Out And Down 44 Lbs!

Congrats! Your weight loss is awesome thanks for the update.
  2. Hi Everyone! I've been browsing your forums for a week or so now to help me make my decision whether to go for the surgery or not, and I thought it was about time I introduced myself. If all goes well I am looking at being sleeved in early September, but there is just one question I have which I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere online... Once you reach your ideal weight how do you stop losing? I have seen a few people whose tickers are now showing underweight, and I know someone who lives near me who has had it done and is now painfully thin. Does this happen a lot? How do you stabilise your weight when you can only eat such small amounts? I have been underweight before as an aneorexic teenager and I looked terrible. I really don't want to end up there again :tongue_smilie: I hope someone can give some feedback. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. L x
  3. I am 5 mos. out and my weight loss has slowed so much. For me I'm now thinking it won't be a huge issue at this point. I hope not. But my doctor did caution me about this too. I personally think the size might be a factor - size of boughie. I'm a 34 and often wish I could eat more, but the size I have seems to keep me from gaining and I am still slowly losing. But it is down to just 5 lbs a month now. I think I'll have more trouble getting to my goal than I thought.

    Pre-op

Hi, I am new at this. I have been going to all appointments so they can submit the case to insurance. Tomorrow Friday 22, I will Be going to see psych for clearance. This is what basically determines everything. I am pretty nervous. This is my story. I have been overweight all of my Life. I have utilized everything that you can purchase and more. 3 years ago I lost weight. I went from 240 to 195 going to the gym and starvation. It worked but as salon as I quit starvation. I gained all the weight back. I have decided to get the gastric sleeve even though I don't have the support of my family. They think I am beautiful the way I am and also think that I will not be able to go thru it as I had a horrible experience with my c sections 6 years ago. I am looking for Support and people that I can chat with. I am hoping to get scheduled for March.
  5. So, I had a bad second fill experience. I'm over it now, but have no restriction at all. Can't get my third fill until the first week of March. Here are some things I'm thinking of doing to get through this and still lose some weight. Any other suggestions are GREATLY appreciated! 1. I am planning healthy dinners for this week so I don't just do carry out and get something unhealthy. 2. I'm going to add an extra day of working out. 3. I am not going to eat after 8pm. 4. No more munching on snacks at work. I'm going to bring hot tea and have that instead.

    Carbohydrate intake?

Like everything regarding diets and weight loss, ask here and get a million different answers. I wasn't given a carb limit or number. I was given a calorie range. Along with my protein and fluid goals that is the only limitation my nutritionist gave me. I do not eat low carb and my NUT doesn't push it. However I do pay close attention to the source of my carbs. Plant based carbs I don't worry about. I avoid "white carbs", like those found in breads, pastas, white rice and refined sugar. I try to eat as cleanly as possible. No "diet" food . On the occasions I use butter, I use real butter. However those occasions are few and far between. I buy plain yogurt and add my own fruit. I eat whole plants and grains. I am never constipated and have been losing steadily.

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!

Ok, so I decided to start blogging this incredible journey. I was banded July 28, 2008 (my birthday present to myself). I started off so motivated and quickly (within 4-5 months) dropped 40 pounds. Then it happened, christmas. I am a caterer (on the side, I work for Child support services by day), I love to cook, we started having cookie exchanges at work. Yes, I participated. I was fooling myself into thinking that as long as I made good food choices and kept going to the gym, then I could also have dessetrt! Crazy, yeah I know. So long story short, that's what I was doing, eating right during my meals, but still having dessert EVERYDAY. Needless to say my weight loss came to a halt, at my own hands. I see why they make you see a therapist. Thankfully, I haven't gained any weight, but I haven't lost any. Now, I'm back on the right track. I have done away with all those sugary desserts. I'm down 8 pounds and feeling great.. Hope this helps someone on their journey
  8. Thanks Tiff...that was a good read. congrats on the weight loss!
  9. Hello. I am a 45-year-old female from Birmingham, Alabama. I am currently scheduled to have the gastric sleeve on December 18, 2015, pending final approval. I can't believe I let myself get to this point. Over the years I was focused on finishing college and starting my career, then with some ups and downs of life added in...a car accident in which left me with the inability to walk for almost a year, caring for my mother who battled cancer and my sister who fell ill suddenly, both of whom died within 11 months of each other, then a brother who became ill and died at an early age....etc, etc....food became my comfort, and I eventually hit my highest weight of 280 last month. I have tried Weightwatchers three times, losing up to about 20 lbs each time, only to gain it back plus some. I've tried LA Weightloss....oh, my the money I spent on that program is just ridiculous! I've been a member of a gym for most of my adult life...thousands of dollars for that. I went to my PCP about a month ago, and she suggested I check into the sleeve. I was extremely hesitant, but with the words MORBIDLY OBESE constantly on my mind, I decided to do some research as well as listen to other people's stories on YouTube. I am excited as well as nervous. I've shared this with three people close to me and also a coworker. However, I sort of regret sharing with the coworker because I'm scared that I will fail at this. I'm scared that I won't be able to adjust my eating habits. I'm the person that has to have dessert... I am addicted to sugar. I'm scared that I won't lose weight or even worse that I will stretch my new stomach. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Please share any tips or advice. It's great to have a place to commuinic with others who are on the same journey.

    My story...

Congrats on making the decision to change your life. You will not regret it. You will be able to have your much loved sweets eventually just not for awhile. Once you start losing weight for good, you will be much happier. I will never regret giving up food that was killing me. A little food goes goes a long way these days. I still eat a bite of a sweet treat now and again. No its not on my meal plan but I don't deny myself anything. I'm afraid of I do, I'll just say screw it and give up. Good luck on your journey.

    Lafayette?

3 months later.. Lol.. I know! I don't know anyone in my area that has gotten banded. How is your weight loss going?
  12. Lap Band 9/2007 by Dr Spivak in Houston: 20 lb weight loss immediately after band. Lost another 60 with running, boot camp, exercise and benefit of band as tool to eat less. Reached weight of 135 and felt great, but intermittent episodes of severe restriction, vomiting. Dr Spivak had moved out of the country and his website directed his patient to the physicians at TLC Surgery in Houston. Made an appointment with Dr Sherman Yu. Found out in July that my esophagus and pouch were dilated and i had reflux esophagitis (asymptomatic). All Fluid had to be removed from band and I returned to bad habits. Gained 50 lbs back and felt miserable. I was approved for band removal and revision to sleeve right away, but I chickened out and canceled my surgery in February thinking I could do it on my own. Wrong! i rescheduled and had my revision on 5/12/14 at Park Plaza Hospital. In the hospital, I received IV acetaminophen, dilaudid PCA and the On-Q painbuster ball. I walked 4 hrs after surgery and went home around noon the next day. The staff at PPH was amazing. Dr Yu gave me prescriptions for pain and nausea meds at my preop appt so it would be available when I got home from the hospital. He also is using new compounded lotions/creams for scar, nausea and pain which I am using as well. It is pod#4 today and feel great!! Of course, I have some incisional pain, but I really cannot complain at all. The last time I took pain meds was 2 days ago. I was sent home with the On-Q pain ball and removed it myself on pod#2. No nausea or vomiting, able to drink without problems. I drove myself to the movies yesterday and walked 2 miles today. I hope I'm not speaking too soon and jynxing myself, but I really don't think so. I just wanted to put a positive experience out there for those folks who have heard the horror stories. Best of luck to all!

    Vacation

I had a BLAST on my 2 part vacation! I ate SO many carbs, drank PLENTY of cocktails, ate LOTS of sugar, exercised 0 times, didn't lose an ounce, but I didn't gain either! I danced the night away and rode a roller coaster for the first time in over 10 years. Love my sleeve! Back to reality now though lol. Now I'm back home and ready to get back in the gym!
  14. I too think you have done extremely well with weight loss during the healing phase, and without restriction. You have done it without the help of the band----you ARE succeeding!!! Imagine how you can succeed when the fill level in your band actually kicks in to help you along!!! Many of us older bandsters DID lose weight during our healing phase----because we had restriction earlier---our bands are smaller. BUT---according to what I read, the larger bands are safer on you--less liklihood of erosion! Less slippage! In other words, the band is a safer, new and improved version of what we got. I am not complaining about my band, but I am ALL for the safest way of doing this as they can find!!! Keep slowly working up your fill level, take it in small steps, and when you feel some restriction, work with it. Don't push and punish your body with too tight of restriction, it has shown that backfires! You are learning! You are learning to eat a healthier diet, and to move more---that will do nothing but help you, and the more you lose, the better able to move even more you will see! You will be running with that toddler before you know it----and you both will benefit from this surgery! And you will be feeding your child a healthier diet! You do not suck at this, you have not failed in any way at all!!! You have done it without help! The help will get there......and you will have already begun to develop healthy new habits....and will be on your way to losing that 100 pounds!!! Hang in there, you are doing great! Kat
  15. Thanks everyone, so much for your support. I needed the encouragement more than you could know. Isolating myself from reciving (and giving) support has been my biggest pitfall throughout the years in my efforts to lose weight. I think for the next week I am going to keep a written log of my food. Maybe that will give me a better picture of what I need to do before I decide whether or not to have another fill. However, regarding yvonneb3 comments: "It sounds to me like you keep pushing to see how far you can go and eat. What you are doing is restretching your stomach and making it harder for the band to do its work. " I do not intentionally "push" to see how far I can go. I generally eat until I am "satisfied" not "Full", but to get to this point, it can take anywhere from 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food...sometimes much less, because my band is tight in the morning. I thought that I should be feeling satisfied at 1/2 cup of food, but that has not been the case so far. "If you are really working out as much as you say, then you have to be taking in too many calories to lose anything. I have no reason to be anything less than 100% truthful on this forum. Lying to myself and others about food is how I ended up 100 pounds overweight. As I stated above, I am going to start keeping a food log. There is obviously something I am not seeing. I have a toddler and I have a bad habit of taking a bite here, or a bite there of whatever it is that I am trying to coax her into eating. Maybe over the course of a week, that could be what is holding me back. We'll see. We all know how hard it is to diet but the band won't do all the work for you. I never thought it would. Nor am I trying to get it to do all the work for me. I assumed that my success would be based on 80% my effort and maybe 20% the band. SO FAR, it has been 97% my effort and maybe 3% the band. I apologize if I sound a little irritated. I'm fighting off a chocolate craving as I type this. At this point, I would gladly give up the toddler that I mentioned in the paragraph above, in exchange for a Godiva Truffle. Any takers???
  16. I am finally in the 220's. Even though it is 229.8, i have finally made it. I haven't been in the 220's since I had my son 7 years ago. I know it's not onderland, but I am happy with my weight loss so far. I have lost 43 pounds and feel better and happier than ever and don't regret having surgery. This is the best decision I have ever made for me.

yoga-now my port hurts (sore) HELP

I do Yoga-Pilates - just 2 hours per week. I went back into it VERY slowly, or should I say carefully. Yes, I did get a little sore when I started, the first week was quite sore. The area felt quite warm too until the next day. I took it really easy the next week and its been fine ever since. I finally got to start on my weights/treadmill (nothing too drastic LOL) and the first day my port was really, pinchy and sore, but this settled very quickly too. I think perhaps both times I just needed to stretch into it and it was a shock to my system!
  18. I'M WAITING ON INSURANCE APPROVAL. Everything seems to be happening quickly. It was just under a month since Ive gone to seminar. My bmi is over 50 w/hypertension and ive had weight counseling for the past year, but to no avail. ive meet with surgeon, pyschologists, and had upper gi. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. My surgeon does not require liquid diet prior to surgery, instead wants me to do atkins diet(no carbs) 1 week before surgery. He only suggest 1 week liquid diet post surgery too. Anybody out there tried this before? help?
  19. Our fat stores hormones, and now that they are all being released - and kinda like in the way you see pictures of spring run-off in the mountains you will likely continue to feel this way. Perhaps it may even get a little worse before it gets better. However, rest assured it does eventually stop. I think I had my ups and downs for at least the first 6 months, and the height of it was in the first 2 months. But, now that I'm no longer losing weight, I'm at a very even keel. Good luck!

    Also need "at goal' mentor!

I still struggle with how often to weigh. I should probably only weigh once a week, because there's so much fluctuation from day to day. And during the weight loss phase, weighing more often can be depressing. On the other hand, if we see a weight loss from one day to the next, it might give us liberty to have "just one more bite" that we don't really need. I think once I get to my goal, I'll probably weigh more often to head off any slight gains. Jan
  21. I am 29 pounds from the goal my doctor set. With that being said, my personal goal is still 49 lbs away. I am ecstatic with my weight now. Can't wait to see the mirror when I reach these goals! Let's hear some bragging stories y'all! I love to hear good news! Drop your stats -starting weight, current weight-surgery date. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. HW 271.5 SW 246.9 CW 205.8 Goal 150. Surgeon's goal (70% of excess weight) 179. So I'm 26 pounds from my surgeon's goal. Surgery was August 23. That 179 puts me about where I was when my hubby and I got married 19 years ago. My main goal right now is to be in onederland by New Year's. I've lost 65.7 pounds. I am sometimes disappointed with myself, but I need to cut myself some slack and just stay with the program.

I like to call it the winners bench. As you lose weight you become more healthier. That's a win.
  25. Help! I am about a month out from my surgery and I am looking for a psycologist, councelor, that specializes in weight control. I live in Ft. Worth but I would drive to big D because I feel this is an important part of my theropy. I really want this to be sucessful and I feel that it may help to reach down into my inner thoughts to find the root of what makes me a emotional eater. I have a very positive attitude and no fear of the operation ( because I've done my rearch), but I want to go the step further and really make this work. Any help is welcome Please comment
