    August surgery buddies!

I had a stall for more than two weeks after I started on solid foods. It was really frustrating, but recently I started losing a little weight again. All you can do is be patient. In the first days and weeks after surgery, you are losing a lot of water weight. Then your body starts adding the water weight again, but you're still losing fat. You just don't see it on the scale for a while, since the re-added water makes up for the fat loss on the scale. Just stick to your program. Eventually you will start losing weight on the scale again.

That's where the bone broth comes in. Plus, I have some unflavored protein powder that I can add to regular broth or even water if needed. I just have not used it yet since I didn't have the need. Also, I'm only on liquid protein for days 4-7, then I can add in cottage cheese & ricotta cheese. At that point, the old standby Ricotta Cheese Bake may be my friend for week 2.

Nice to meet you! I felt surprisingly mild/good after surgery! I was in quite a bit of pain when I went home - especially that leftmost incision. 😱 I'm a week out from surgery tomorrow and I'm feeling a lot better. 😊 I think I made the right decision to have rny bariatric surgery!
  4. Prior to surgery I was not addicted to any drugs or alcohol. However, I would comfortably assume I was “addicted” to food. Now that I’m not eating anywhere close to as much as I used to, I fear I am seeking to fill that void with an odd replacement…professional sports. I am an avid baseball fan and my team has a really good chance at making the playoffs this year. When they win, I’m in a great mood, nothing could be better. However, when they lose, I go into a tailspin and get very depressed, instantly having little to no interest in doing anything or finding joy in anything. I am speaking with a psychiatrist in a week, so hopefully that will help begin the coping process. Has anyone else had a personal experience with transfer addiction, and if so, how did you/are you dealing with it?

    July 2022 peeps!

Hi all! Looks like you're all doing fairly well! I had my 8 week post op yesterday and I am down 46 lbs (from 259 to 213) and 8 BMI (44 to 36)! I've slept the last few nights without my CPAP, too! I feel absolutely great and regret nothing. Now that I am on a general diet I've had to remind myself to eat slower. A couple of times I ate too fast so the food was stuck, causing me to vomit it back up. I'd like to say that I've learned my lesson, but some habits are hard to break. Non-scale victories: Weaning off CPAP I can cross my legs (lol) I fit in the non-plus size section (woo-hoo!) Much more energy Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    **Weight REGAIN**

Thank you all for the kind words, encouraging words, and hard to hear words. I will keep this updated as time goes on, I am putting myself on clear liquids tomorrow then doing another week long reset with the shakes again to hopefully get myself back on track once more. I know that the shakes is not a long term solution, but it’ll help me regain focus again and hopefully get myself in a better mind set to be more conscious about what I put into my mouth. Going to be searching for a new therapist soon. Will keep updated when I can. Thanks to you all again!
  7. I probably eat about half as much as I did pre-surgery. I could do a small turkey wrap (or half a large one) and maybe a side dish for sure. raw carrots can be hard on my stomach. In fact, I sometimes eat some of them when I'm at risk of binging on something. They tend to irritate my stomach, so it stops a binge in its tracks (usually....). Long way of saying - raw vegetables like that can still irritate our stomachs even after being years out - so that's not uncommon... I tend to go more by calories now, since I still count them. Pre-surgery, I was probably eating 3000+. Now I eat somewhere between 1600-2000, depending on how much exercising i'm doing. On holidays I've been known to eat more than that - 2300 or so - but eating that much makes me feel like i just ate an elephant, and I feel like crap that day and the next. 2300 would have been nothing when I weighed over 300 lbs. P.S. yes - I sometimes do feel restriction - but not like I did the first few weeks & months after surgery.

    Food

the no weight loss since last week is almost certainly a stall. They're completely normal. They usually last 1-3 weeks, and you're likely to hit several of them on your weight loss journey. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. They'll eventually break and you'll be on your way again. the nausea part - I'd let your clinic know that...if nothing else, for peace of mind.

I am about 6 weeks post op, I just started eating solid food a week ago, I can only eat 2 to 3 bites before I feel like I am going to throw up. Since introducing food I have not lost any weight. Anyone experiencing the same? Any advice how to stop the Plato?

    Food

I am about 6 weeks post op, and am feeling really frustrated. I can only eat about 2 or 3 bites of anything before I feel like I am going to throw up. I just introduced real food about a week ago and since then have lost no weight. Anyone experience this also.

    September surgery buddies!!

Hi Sept Surgery Buddies! I just wanted to report an astounding success that all of you would understand. I go in for surgery day after tomorrow so I am neck deep in my liquid diet. I only had to do it for a week and messed up the first two days. But I got myself totally focused and have done well since and was feeling great yesterday after not even feeling hungry. Today we had company lunch out at a restaurant that I couldn't avoid. I'm talking bar and grill with ALL the food, starting with many apps across the table. Everyone ordered food, I ordered a refill on my water. It was tricky because I haven't told anyone about my surgery. Just said I wasn't hungry. And it was true! I wasn't!! Whoda thunk it?!? Felt good to have my head in the right spot and still enjoy the company of my co-workers in the face of such temptation. Going in at 11am on Sept. 15! Will report back on my experience - thanks so much to those of you that continue to do so. It is incredibly helpful!

I went into this with pretty unrealistic pain expectations. It hurts! And I have been more asleep than awake the last two days. Nausea is no joke either. Make sure you get some nausea medicine and stay on top of that and pain meds. I can’t imagine taking less than a week to recover at this point.

Definitely take at least a week! I get wanting to go back to work, but you gotta try to heal properly.

    September surgery buddies!!

So glad to hear that it gets better! I, too, tried the badass route and it didn’t go so well. I ran out of my pain med supply yesterday, had a rough night then tried to go to work (office job) today. WRONG. I called my surgeon for another round of meds and I’m back home now after a half day at work. By lunchtime, I was hunched over trying not to stress my incisions and praying I could make it to the car without screaming. I’m going to stay down a couple of more days. I definitely think a full week of rest is needed! My surgery was 9/9 so I’ll try to go back to work 9/15 or 16 - maybe.

Congratulations on a successful surgery! I'm about a week post now and the last time I took my pain med was Saturday night and even then it was a just in case thing . The pain gets more tolerable!!!

    August surgery buddies!

Soo sorry for your cramps, try a hod pad...for me a little bit of cramps, I´m on my fourth day, hopefully tomorrow is my last. Yesterday in the weight in at the doctors appt I gained three pounds 😭, thanks the heavens the surgeon is out of town, and I got his assistant. The first question she asked me was if I consumed any food with sugar or not authorized in the program (they are very strict with that), I told her no, then asked if I was on my period, when I answered yes, she explain that´s normal, don´t worry about it, and put a little note for the surgeon. I'm on phase 4: soft food, eggs, and plantain, cassava puree, mozzarella and meat (without been grounded). I got to eat chicken breast and avocado in a restaurant for lunch yesterday, it was heaven, even though 95% of the plate went to a doggie bag.

    July 2022 peeps!

I seem to be going steady at 2 pounds a week. I’m happy with that. I know if I got more exercise it would pick up. The more I lose the more energy I get and the stronger I feel and the more i feel like moving. I am one of those people that feels strong hunger so that’s a challenge but other than that, I don’t have stomach issues and eat anything even spicy foods. I ate 1/4 cup of curry last night for dinner to treat myself.

Are you still taking an acid reducer? I read someone was having a lot of nausea weeks after surgery and when they added Prilosec it got much better.

    July 2022 peeps!

It really depends on your starting weight. The more you have to lose, the more you will lose at first. I have only lost 29 lbs since surgery and that puts me at 201. I had a 2.5 week stall and am only now loosing a pound a week. It's frustrating cuz I did better with Keto but now I can't really just give up. I can't eat that much. I know from reading other posts that it will pick up again.

    August surgery buddies!

I had the gastric sleeve a month and four days ago. I did not get a calorie level recommendation from anyone, no. Currently, I am eating every three or so hours, but I cannot stomach either protein powders or greek yogurt. So I eat mostly chicken, eggs, fish, ground beef and some veggies. Not a lot of fruit. Sometimes a half or a whole protein bar per day. I cannot eat much more than around 40-50 grams of meat at a time. If I eat more I will throw up. So, I'm pretty much eating as much as I can. The only way to increase the calories would be with fruit juice or something like that, which is not on my list of recommended foods.

    July 2022 peeps!

Hi Katrina! My surgery date was July 28. How have things been for you? My surgeon put me on “all foods” at 4 weeks post op and I’ve been feeling great, tolerating healthy foods. Down 21lbs. I hope you are doing well too!

A newbie 17 days post op

Hello and welcome in the forum, its great to have peoples from other countries who contribute and share their journeys and knowledge. I didn't know anyone who had this surgery either, so this forum was super helpful. In the months waiting my surgery I read thousands of back pages. You are at a really difficult place in your journey. Everything is hard to learn, eating and drinking are difficult. Lots of people find it hard to drink the shakes, I just drank milk with dried milk powder in to boost the protein or milk with peanut butter and fruit. You just have to wait until you can have real food again. We have all been there, it sucks. There are still foods that are off my menu, mainly chicken and the very preloved cooked salmon. I hope that I can eat them one day but its still a small price to pay for my weight loss and getting my life back. I wouldn't change a thing You may get a stall in your weight loss soon. If you want to read up on it, put three week stall in the header. There are thousands of posts. It saves a lot of anguish and asking yourself 'What am I doing wrong' Just take it day by day and trust the process. Go back and ask your team if they have any info that will help you just now with food and drink choices and make sure you have enough medication for the nausea. Good luck in your journey

    **Weight REGAIN**

I agree with @Tomo. I think your surgeon may have been thinking the liquid diet would be a good way to do a pouch reset. There's a lot of sites that recommend doing it at least a week, followed by a week for each stage of the "just had surgery" food diet to get your pouch and mind back on track. Given the vitamin deficiencies and possible thyroid issues, I'm not surprised at all that he isn't considering a revision right now. I would follow through with a full reset, definitely see your pcp for more tests, and then once you have the full picture, go from there. I would also track what I'm eating (I use MyFitnessPal) and be mindful of snacking, grazing, portion size, slider foods, etc.
