January 25th 2017 Sleevers... we are 1 week post-op...
AGreenEyedWolf posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
... and I don't know about you, but I'm super excited to be eating tomato soup!! LOL My leak test was the day after my surgery, so I did Clear liquids from tgen until now... I'm now allowed "full liquids" so my day has been pretty exciting (by newly VSG'd standards lol). I had 4 teaspoons of runny oatmeal for Breakfast, 4 teaspoons of yogurt and 3 ounces of a Premier Protein shake as a snack, and now I'm sipping creamy tomato Soup for lunch. How is everyone else doing?? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Returning to work

@"Charisma", I was sleeved on 1/17, and I told my husband 3 days after that I didn't think the doctor took out any of my stomach because I had absolutely no problems drinking, or taking any of my pill medications. Then i started my soft food stage, and BAM! There was the restriction I had read so much about. I can only fit about 2oz of cottage cheese, yogurt, or anything really right now. I assume this is going to get even tougher as I progress in to more dense foods, but I was so happy to finally feel that restriction. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
I am just at 2 weeks right now, and my doctor does not do a purée stage, so I am currently eating cottage cheese, yogurt, applesauce, well cooked veggies (soft enough to smash with your fork). In about 5 days I get to add eggs and well cooked Beans. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Surgery for a different reason

Wowzers, there is so much to learn, and they really dumped you into the deep end. Time to learn to swim! Tons of good wls post op meal plans on youtube, along with the explanations behind it all. At this point, I recommend giving your tummy a break, concentrate on getting your liquids in. Start with Water. (Assuming water doesn't make you nauseated). Get the 1 oz medicine cups to measure out your portions. Drink 1/2 the oz, wait 5 minutes, drink the rest. Repeat. You should be able to consume at least 8 oz this way. If you vomit the water back up, time to call your surgeon. Assuming you keep the water down, do the same with a Protein shake. Good shake recipe: 1 cup plain greek yogurt, ripe banana, 4 tablespoons Peanut Butter, blend well. If it isn't sweet enough, add more banana. Can also add some Protein powder. Of course this makes quite a bit of shake that will take a while to consume. I'm concerned to hear about all the vomiting. Not good! If Vitamins don't agree with you, they make Vitamin Patches. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App -
Protein Shake Recipes

Cup of strawberry oikos triple0 Greek yogurt, 1/2 bottle of vanilla Atkins shake a few ice cubes. Blend I'd in a bullet or blender. It is yummy and tastes like a milkshake. Change up the yogurt flavors - tried banana yogurt today - that was good too! Sent from my VS987 using the BariatricPal App -
I think it will depend on what post op eating pan your doctor has you on, and how well your recovery is going. I have learned that different doctors follow so may different plans. I am 2 weeks post op right now, and i am able to eat yogurt, cottage chees, applesauce and well cooked veggies. By 3 weeks, I will be adding eggs and Beans. However, there are other doctors that have you on 2 weeks of liquids after post op, so that can be tough. Since I have so much variety right now, I find that the tougher part to explain when people don't know I had surgery, is that I can only fit about 2oz and then I am full. In my case, I have pretty much told everybody, but with the variety that I am able to eat right now, I could easily tell people that I am eating all veggies right now as some sort of cleanse, and just cutting out meat for a while. Wish I could help but the pureed stage was the most difficult for me. I am a visual eater and just couldn't bring myself to puree meat and then eat it. I ate mashed potatoes, applesauce, ricotta bake, yogurt and drank my Protein shakes.

It's hard to fathom right now, but that feeling of hunger, and things tasting good AND going down easily comes back. You need to find something chock full of protein that you can tolerate though. 7 weeks isn't very far out, and at that time I got most of my protein from shakes. Have you tried the Premier Protein shakes. I couldn't do the ones that the NUT wanted me drinking, but those I could tolerate. Also, try googling eggfaces baked ricotta. Cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese (softer), hummus (I lived on that!)... these were all easy for me to eat. Keep in mind though, back then, I did good to get 1 ounce, let alone the 3 ounces or 1/4c my NUT suggested. Keep sipping water, and keep trying out things to find what goes down easiest right now. Steak, chicken, and other dense proteins will come in time. Isopure also makes protein mixes that go in water and taste more like flavored water (kinda) than the milky ones, that's also an option as so many find themselves lactose intolerant for a few months (usually not permanently)

Honesty hour: need help
Diana_in_Philly replied to AshleyinOnederland's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mix it with Water. Mix it with yogurt. I know how frustrating it was. I was allowed full liquids for three weeks after surgery - shakes, yogurt, ricotta or cottage cheese, sugar free puddings and jellos (maybe PB2 in some chocolate sugarfree Jello?) Get creative. Get on Pinterest -- make the ricotta bake -- just google bariatric ricotta bake -- it's really good and help me when I was on full liquids. Obviously, if some of the things I've listed are not on your plan as liquids, please don't eat them. Trust your plan. All I can tell you is that the scrambled egg I had at day 1 of week 4 was the best scrambled egg I've had in my life. -
Simple and often go to foods seem to be a good sign for keeping weight in check for me.... chicken thighs. Cheese sticks. Yogurt ..beans.. some brown rice. Extra protein milk... some protein drinks and bars. Soups. Kinda similar eating patterns helps me maintain Good luck to all of us trying to live our lives years post op of Wls!

Crackers
Armygalbonnie replied to AshleyinOnederland's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought some Spinach and Kale greek yogurt dip at Trader Joes this weekend, and I ate it with the mini bell peppers. I scooped out the peppers and used them like a spoon. It was sweet, crunchy and hit the spot. It was a great replacement for crackers/chips. -
Surgery for a different reason
RNYNewbie replied to RNYNewbie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you! No I have an appointment with my surgeon today and I plan to request a dietician consult. I was honestly surprised he didn't get me set up with one from the get go. I cannot imagine drinking 64 oz of water and being able to eat! I drink all throughout the day and try to eat little bits and pieces here and there but I stick mostly to liquids and yogurt. A lot of Soups. Anything solid I eat, I chew to a pureed consistency before I swallow it. I'm lucky if I manage 2 or 3 oz of food at a time. I've tried multiple different Protein drinks now and most are so sweet that I cant stand to drink them. I do like the Odwalla Protein Drinks. I got some chewable vitamins but they made me throw up so I'm not doing those right now either. I'll get it though! Slow but sure and day by day! -
My sleeve surgery seems almost too easy. So far.
Charisma replied to RunningWithScissors's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I was sleeved Friday and honestly feel fine tonight, just a bit sore in the stomach like I did too many crunches. I can easily drink liquids and even eat 5.4oz of Greek yogurt in one sitting. I sure hope I get the restriction feeling when I start solids or else this will all be for nothing because right now I honestly can't tell the difference. Im only 3 weeks out. Just started reg foods. Chew a ton and eat a little and its all good. Some docs say wait 2 months. To me that's major over kill but Im not a Dr. My recovery has been extremely quick and easy. All I eat is shakes, little chicken, yogurt and some vegetables. Also take all my Vitamins and Biotin. Oh and I LOVE sugar free popsicles! Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App -
Ive honestly thought about chewing on food, then spitting it out. But, then I figured the temptations of swallowing the food would come in. This is suppose to be my life change that I decided to do for myself. So I just need to suck it up! BUT geeeesh, its SO hard! Im happy to know, I'm not the only one that has struggled with this. Thanks for your response. Its good to know we can be there for each other. * Misty * Misty, I was sleeved 1/17. I am struggling with this too....big time. I can literally feel food in my mouth and am craving things I have not had in years! Commercials, and just driving by fast food places are all messing with my head. The cliche 1 day at a time is all we can do. I keep drinking, savor my yogurt and mashed potatoes and can't wait to add egg in week 3! Hang in there....one day at a time. This too shall pass.

Protein Drinks? Found one with 20g protein in 2oz...
honebeck replied to jjjmmm13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a week and a half post op, and someone told me about GENEPRO Protein powder. It's a tasteless powder with one Tbsp. Equaling 20 oz. of protein. It has saved me! I HATE protein drinks!!! I gag in them, but with this I just make s mini smoothie using 3 frozen strawberries, and 2-3 Tbsp. banana, a tsp. Of Greek yogurt for smoothness, a few ice chunks, and 1/4 cup Water. Then I have a yummy smoothie with 30 grams of protein! I cannot taste the powder! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I'm new here, and I'm nervous!
GmaDiana replied to maddie.bruins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone has these fears. It is natural. You have made the decision to have the surgery now have the faith that the Dr will take care of you.You will be ok.You will be most comfortable in stretch waist pants for a while.Make sure you take that to hospital.I also took my favorite pillow,in a colored pillowcase so they know it is yours and not theirs.Make sure you have some ready made shakes like Premier Protein as well as powders if you are going to mix your own.Everyone is different what their Dr tells them.I was on liquid for 1 week then added mushies foods.Cottage cheese, greek yogurt, vegetable Soup that had been blended. It will take you a while to get and keep your protein and liquids up.A portable drink cup with a lid to take with your everywhere you go. I was sleeved in 2011 and had revision surgery Nov 2016 due to acid reflux issues.I was very concerned about both these surgeries but everything worked out fine.I have had 14 total surgeries. But having surgery for weight loss was scary because I had a choice.I have never regretted y decision about the surgery.I have lost another 30 lbs from the last surgery. You lose slower after a revision .You will probably loose at a fasted rate. I will keep you in my prayers for your surgery and healing. -

Surgrey was great it's almost 2 weeks and I feel great. I do notice there is a pain in my lower back Hoping it will go aWay. Best dishion ever. I notice I'm getting full and when I be I stop eating in the middle of the day. With everything with Protein drinks, pudding yogurts he gets to be a little too much for my stomach. Stephanie840910 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone! My wight was 215 after was 198.0 And I feel great! I do have the pains when I do was fast or take to much in right away. I notice I have to have a break of everything during the middle of the day. I'm getting my Protein in and I try pudding and yogurt and Soup but I notice that I've been feeling full so I'm trying to take breaks in between. Or towards the end of the day and then I'll try to get my protein back in. I'm trying to get the most Water in as possible but I know I should be trying to get more in but I'm always full. I do have a question though I have a pain in my left lower back I walk everyday and I called the doctor and the nurse said what was probably from me laying on the table while I was getting the surgery. It's off and on. So I might make a appointment to the doctor's sometime this week. Does anyone else have this problem? Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Looking for people that had their surgery on January 24th or close to it.

Good morning! OK, so I did not meet my goals yesterday for liquids, Protein or Calcium. But I did better. Herbal tea for Breakfast, probably 12 oz of a 16 Oz Water bottle mixed with crystal light and 30 g. Protein powder and an entire container of vanilla triple zero yogurt. Took me an hour to finish it the yogurt, one teaspoon every 5 mins. Also took some stool softeners which, happily, are starting to work! This morning I made a shake with vanilla Premier Protein, 1/2 frozen ripe banana, 2 T PB2 (Peanut Butter powder), ice and addition protein powder. This should be a whopping 66 g of protein! And it's yummy. But my tummy still prefers warm to cold. I find my body running cold. I have been wearing my favorite Beach dresses with a sweater and socks (homeless fashionista) and staying under blankets when I'm not up and doing stuff. A frying vacationing in Barbados keeps sending me food pictures (yes she knows about the surgery.) DH keeps bringing more food into the house and parading it by me. Then he decides to become chef-boy-r-d and starts cooking all kinds of things. Then comes out and starts describing the meal he has just made for himself. I almost stared to cry. He looked at me and said "oh I guess you don't want to hear about it?" Arrgh. He then made some homemade chicken broth which he offered up. I told him it had to be strained. Which he did. When I saw the container he had I asked if that was a layer of fat on top that needed to come off. He got insulted and snapped that it was just Soup. He poured me a bowl, very proud of himself. I felt sick as I looked at the glistening fat on the broth. I ate 2 spoonfuls. Then got rid of it as discretely as I could. Sigh. Also braved the scale. The first read out was LO which I assumed meant Laughing Out Loud. Sigh. Smells are getting easier to tolerate, but feelings may be getting more sensitive. How is everyone else doing? Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am sure that your surgeon will give you a meal plan to follow (or the NUT in your team) or at least they should do. Being so tired is awful, I remember it so well, so have sympathy with you! My own personal view is that mashed potatoes are not the best thingto eat at this stage (17 months out I still don't eat potatoes). You need protein first, to help you heal and fill you up. Things such as greek yogurt, soft scambled eggs, soups blended with protein, protein shakes, protein puddings etc. However its best to follow your surgeons plan. Congratulations on the surgery! Kate

dvmp61 replied to Misty Barnhart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm Suzanne. I had my surgery the 24th. When the new day nurse came in on the 25th, she smelled like garlic and onions...which I used to adore...but. yuck! It was horrid. Then at home my husband got into bed and was reeking of garlic, onions, toothpaste and God knows what else. And the dog....smelled like kibble. Ugh. This is a superpower side effect. Wondering how long it is going to last... I haven't come close to getting my liquids, protien or Vitamins in but I'm hoping today will be the day! Swelling is going down, incisions are healing nicely and I can lay on my stomach now. I am on full liquids but just added "real" food yesterday (only Water, and a couple bites of Jello wed and thurs) Yesterday I tried some herbal tea (fantastic!), watery cream of wheat (yummy), cream of chicken Soup spiked with Protein powder, and triple zero Greek yogurt. Only managed a few bites of each but they were all wonderful taste sensations! I have not weighed myself yet. Today's goals...liquids, protein, walking. And measurements. I need to take measurements! Good luck to all! Our journey has begun! Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App I have also had a problem with smells. They have been strong enough to make me sick to my stomach. The garlic and grease smells do it for me. Doesn't seem to be as bad lately, but my first few days home I thought I was losing my mind! I reminds me of when I had morning sickness with my babies. Hope yours ends soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am doing good will be glad when this gas goes away. Was craving something sweet so I made a dessert with plain Greek yogurt and a little bit of sugar free Jello. Stomach actually likes it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Only 10 days post op and already getting discourged
criolelaie replied to m12345's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi m12345 are you on clear liquid or full liquids? If on full liquids you can have any kind of soup (blended and diluted to liquid consistency), strained yogurt, Protein shakes. If you are still on Clear Liquids and you are doing well you can maybe contact you surgeon and ask if you can progress a bit earlier. I did it with my surgeon and he was happy for me to.
