    nsv for me! yeah!

the other day my sil told me she wished she had my arms! can you believe that? i am still in shock and i get this big smile just thinkin about it. i have had this fear about my arms being gross, so i have been trying to lift weights and, although i could be better about it, it must be working to a point! i was showing her my crossbow (generic bowflex) and she was telling me how she got a bowflex and then she pointed out to her husband how great (still in shock) my arms looked and she wanted to look like that. sorry to blab on, i just cant believe it. and then, sunday, my mom told me how skinny my legs are getting too! i had kinda noticed the same thing, but thought it was just my imagination. but its not. now if i could just lose this belly.....

Smaller clothes are the ultimate NSV! Congrats! Don't go to crazy buying 14's like I did. The smallest I ever was in my life was a 14. When I got back to it, I figured I would never get any smaller so I went ape buying them. I had quite the wardrobe. Now I'm a 10-12 and have all these clothes that I spent a fortune on and can't wear! Luckily I have a sister-in-law and a couple friends that are that size.

I do all my shopping online, but a friend asked me to go shopping at midnight. I went and while she was shopping, I said well I will get me a pair of jeans beings I have only one pair that will fit. I go and try the 16 on...too big. I needed a 14. I was super happy because the ones I wore on Thanksgiving (yes they were a little baggy) were a size 20!!! I have not even put the jeans in the laundry basket because I keep looking at the size!!
  5. Hi Everyone....I'm so excited to make my first post! I started to seriously think about WLS 6 months ago and thats when I found this site. I used to come on here and look for the answers to the questions I had in my head mainly should I, shouldn't I and is it safe. I found all your stories good and bad extremely helpful and motivating so I want to say thank you for all the honest opinions and those who take time out to give help and advice. I had a my lap band surgery on the 18th April and luckily everything went smooth. The hospital where I had my surgery were professional, informative and caring they really impressed me and made me feel safe as well as looked after me well during my stay. I had one night stay in hospital after the surgery and I'm thankful for that. I had my op quite late in the day around 2.30pm but I was not able to get up and walk around like a most of you did. I got up once in the evening to use the bathroom, I was in so much pain and just about managed, I felt dizzy and sick so I just got back in bed where I stayed till the morning but being in hospital I was able to get morphine and an anti sickness injection. The next seven days at home I was resting and recovering. I had absolutely no appetite for about a week and managed easily on two weeks of liquid. My main issue was the gas pain I had it for almost 2 weeks. I took gas x, deflatine, peppermint tea, heat Patches and walkined around but I would say none it worked, it helps for a quick fix but the gas just goes when it goes. I have 5 incisions and I was glued back together I kept them covered for 3 days as advised but 3 days post op I went out and I think I over did it as getting in and out of the car and walking round made my stitches weep a little so I went back to my resting for the rest of the week but they have healed well and look very neat, the biggest one hurt the most. Then I went on to sloppy/mushy food for 2 weeks, again that was no problem for me. I ate 3 small meals a day as directed and I didn't get hungry in-between meals till the last day. On the first day I had a cooking day and made a potato & cauliflower curry, lasagne, chili and shepherd pie then I put small portions of each in takeaway foils and I was eating amazing food for lunch and dinner for the two weeks and it was really healthy as I made it myself with the help of Jamie Oliver's online recipes. http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/category/course/healthy-meals/#M74ep0D62Lx033KT.97 Now I'm on normal solid food and I have my 1st fill on 26th May. I'm both scared to death thinking of what pain it might be yet excited as I want to loose weight. I have noticed my portions getting bigger and I'm looking for food but I don't eat anything I'm not supposed to I just drink Water and wait for my next meal but it's getting harder so I'm counting down the days for my fill. I have lost 13 pounds since I started my 1 week pre op diet, I gained 1 pound but lost it again My main focus is just not to put any of it back on. I go walking 2 miles a day however my weight loss has come to a standstill. I didn't loose anything last week and the week before only 1 pound, I'm ok as long as its not going on but obviously I want to see my scale moving. Haven't had any NSV's yet but my clothes are much looser. I'm feeling positive and happy with how everything has gone so far but I guess it will become more difficult after the fill. I hope you enjoyed hearing my story Once again my success so far is all because of you, as I learnt so much from this site what to do and not to do so THANK YOU!!

    What a great NSV!
  8. One of the great NSVs. Just this week a couple of coworkers started calling me, "skinny". I replied, "you can call me skinny all day long." Enjoy it! Congrats!

    Hang in there until...

It's finally happening! Had my monthly appt with my band doctor yesterday (the awesome Dr. Duffy at Yale New Haven Hospital's Bariatric Surgery office), and I was down 11 pounds! I update my ticker in my email signature more often than every month, so it reflects my total loss, but I was so excited that I'd lost 11 pounds in one month I was ready to scream with joy! And guess how I did it? By following the bandster rules! Being careful to choose nutrient-dense food instead of calorie-dense food, chewing thoroughly and eating slowly, not drinking my calories, and avoiding "slider" foods that don't stay with you long enough to indicate a feeling of fullness. Amazing how well the rules work when you follow them LOL Combine that with a few well-placed NSV's regarding clothing, and it's been a really good period. My latest weigh-in this morning has me at 230 lbs, a number I haven't seen for at least 10 years...I'm really excited about that! Next mid-range goal - making it to 200 lbs by the time of my family reunion in Florida in July. Next short-range goal - dropping another 15 pounds before May 30th to put me at 215 before Memorial Day. Swimsuit season is looking like it's going to hold a lot less terror for me this year than in previous years - that's a definate plus! What made the difference? Regular exercise and eating correctly. Mostly the eating correctly, since I already walk 30 minutes 5 days a week, with longer walks on the weekends (weather permitting). Now I'm going to add some weight work back into my schedule - nearly done with this semester's classes, which will give me more time. I need to keep 'tightening up' my physique, which I know weight training will do. Check in again in a few weeks - until then, if you are already banded, follow the rules and move more - that's the "secret" to success! If you are not yet banded, get the info you need to make a quality decision, and then GO FOR IT! Your life, your health and your happiness can all be enhanced by losing the excess weight. I know it's happening for me...

    NSV: Hiked a mountain trail

I made it to the top of a mountain trail today, 3.2 miles to top and back. Approximately 1,500 feet in elevation. I had to stop 5 times just to rest on occasion but I made it. The last time I did this was 24 years ago. Last summer I wrote down why I wanted to lose weight and being able to hike to the top of this trail was one of those goals.

The Scale Is Not Moving Grrrrr.....

It's like the old saying goes, misery loves company. But for fear of sounding like Pollyanna, at least we have all the wonderful people here who truly do understand our hurts, frustrations and disappoints. Even more importantly, we have all these wonderful people to share our joys, highs and triumps as well. It is truly a remarkable time when we discover that not only are we feeling and thinking the way we do, but that there are others who share the exact same feelings and thoughts. And I think that's one of the biggest NSV's we could ever ask for, new friends who know how we are feeling and we know how they are feeling and we can all simply understand, no judgement, just unconditional acceptance. Just like the rest of you, I am terribly excited over having found this sight and I am really enjoying learning about each of you through the different threads. You are all wonderful, loving, caring, and funny people, and I fit in!!! Isn't that great?! We all fit in. Take care Cindy aka chichigirl

  19. Hello, world. I thought I'd take the time to formally list out my non scale victory goal list. Having been around the weight loss block and back again oh say.. 10 times over (enough already!).. I recognize the importance of setting scale and non scale victories for myself. As a young lay-daaay (oh, haaaai!) who has been overweight all my life but with a trendy, fashion-loving sense of style, I have a long one. Sure, I have my weight and health goals. Of course. I've had them for years. But now's the time to list out every detail - big and small - that I have wanted to get to my entire life but due to my weight, have yet to achieve... and keep. Mr. List - I vow to come back to you throughout my weight loss journey for motivation, reminders, celebrations and reality checks.. for those plateaus and frustrating times to keep me going. I'm starting with 18 because I'm a superstitious freak and that's my lucky number. Ready, set... Fitting into designer skinny jeans. Not James Jeans from Salon Z at Saks (though I do love you, boo), but honest to goodness designer denim: Sevens, J Brand, Joe's. Tankini... or, dare I say it.. bikini? Sitting in a chair without something in my lap - a sweater, HUGE BAG, or hiding behind a table to hide the rolls of my stomach. Who am I fooling? The end of thigh chafing. TMI, but Chicago summers? Come ON. More easily tying or strapping on m'shoes sans tummy to make things difficult. The end of plus sized clothing options. Confidence to show my arms. Rock a Rent the Runway dress (standard sizing) for the next wedding I attend! Courage and energy for spinning classes at Fly Wheel or Soul Cycle Easily do ten perfect push ups - the bain of my existence in all my current workout vids! Zipping into my favorite top from my studying abroad (thinnest days) Fitting into any clothing item smaller than an XL or single digits Shop in the same stores/sections as my girlfriends and be able to buy more than just accessories! Take photos without hiding behind people. Actually needing a belt. (Not just for a fashion statement) Able to be carried... On top. Nuff said. Cross my legs... easily, with a sky high pair of platforms, natch. More to come! Anybody else? What are your NSV goals, hopes or achievements? Mine may seem random or superficial, but so many times in my life I've wanted to be able to more easily do these things but my weight has prevented me from enjoying them.

    First NSV!

That's a GREAT first NSV! Mine was fitting comfortably into the seats at a concert with my niece 2 months post-op. Before, there's no way in hell I would've been able to without dying and being uncomfortable. But thanks to just those 2 months, I was able to comfortably and we had a great time. It's the NSV's like that that mean more I believe.

  22. I was sleeved 8-9 as well and I noticed that I had actually gained a few lbs back. That freaked me out to no end,as you can imagine. I upped my Water intake and I also split what I was eating into much smaller meals, so instead of three meals and two Snacks its more like six 1 to 2 ounce high protien snacks. It seems to work for me and Im starting to lose again. I do feel like I am eating all the time though but Im just trying to listen to my body and stay on track. I am also starting to get back into a regular workout schedule and I know thats going to effect weight loss as well. I did notice that although the pounds may not be flying off right now, my body shape is definately changing and from what Ive read this is really common. You might want to start tracking your measurements or maybe try on some clothes that were previously too small. That is a great way to get NSV and keep you motivated. As long as your doing what your Dr and Nut says you will lose weight. The hardest thing for me is not being obsesive about weighing myself and also not comparing myself to anyone else. My husband was sleeved 6-9 last year and I know it DOES work. He has lost 140 so far and he feels great so that also keeps me motivated that the weight will come off.

    weight loss stats

Okay, I have begun my journal. It's been a heck of a year with my band, but I'll start with my weight as far back as I can reasonably remember and go from there. I love looking at the numbers. So this isn't about NSVs for me. It's stats. It's seeing where I've been, and remembering how far I've come. My One Year Bandiversary is approaching, and I have measurements, weights, dates, milestones for my Journal. They are currently on posts all over this board, or on little pieces of paper in the pencil drawer in the kitchen, or on big sheets of paper tucked away all over the office in my home. I will gather, sort, organize and post my little numbers game here. I can't wait to see it all done!
  24. If you want to see what I am talking about you can check it out at dagorhir.com ... ...okay, so a MUCH younger me was always doing some sort of martial art - and at about 18 fell in LOVE with armed european swordplay - european martial arts, that sort of thing...so I fought in the SCA and other groups...I loved it and I was really good at it. And then I packed on the weight and I just could not keep up. I lacked the arm reach and I was always injuring myself... Sunday I participated in an event again for the first time, and I KICKED ASS, lol. I was mediocre, actually...but it was the first time in fifteen years, and I won sparring events and survived the meley. You may need to locate a nerd to interperate... I was getting some Water, which is on the otherside of a bamboo wall in the park we were in and I heard one of the more experienced guys (who I almost beat 5/6) say "she hasn't done this is 15 years? really???" you can't see it, but the sun is shining from WITHIN me right now, this - feels - sooo - freakin' - good!
  25. I think this is a NSV... Today my hubby insisted on getting a Mac Donalds - it was a hangover cure for him... yea, whatever! 18mths ago, with no movement on the scales for 5 weeks, I would have joined him saying 'what the hell, this stupid diet isn't working' and gorged myself on a Big Mac Meal - or whatever they are called! Today, however, I did not. The smell made me feel sick. The look of the food made my stomach turn. The whole idea of eating that sh*t and paying good money for it repulsed me. I have never looked at food in that way before. I am soooo proud of myself as I have been a little down and stressed lately that I didn't use food as a comfort and a friend. Instead, I have the sleeve and my health as my friend and they are both nicer!!
