  1. I had my gallbladder removed last August. I am still having pain in that area sometimes. It can't be from fatty foods as I am still having it even though I've been basically on liquids the past couple of weeks. So what is going on? I live in fear of Pancreatic cancer (don't laugh) as I had a cousin and aunt both die from it. Any of you in the medical field have any thoughts? I'd go see the surgeon but I'm only ten days out from the VSG and I don't want anything to delay that.
  2. Hello all, I'm 7 days post surgery...I'm so happy I'm feeling better but nobody told me that I would have terrible shoulder pain from the gas inserted into my stomach during surgery would be so painful. It was more painful than childbirth..LOL my shoulder still aches but the pain is manageable because I'm active and walked daily. I slept on my back for 5 days straight because turning on my sides just hard so bad and I could fill my port moving. I really did not drink or eat much Soup for the first 5 days because of my shoulder pain. After the 6 day, I decided to eat kid cup of sugar free ice cream and had no problems. I also made some devil eggs on Sunday and was able to eat two devil eggs minus the relish with no problems . Well its Monday, 11/10/14 and I had my first post surgery appt. with my doctor. I jump on the scale with my shoes off:) I was so surprised that I lost 18 lbs. I'm so happy:) my doctor told me that when he placed my band he added 4cc of Fluid. I was shocked because I thought I would not get my first fill for several weeks? maybe that's why I did not want to drink much and felt content? I don't know. My doctor told me that he would not add any more fluid into my band if I continue to lose weight. I'm scheduled to go back for my 2nd doctor appt. on 12/08/14 I'm nervous because I plan on exercising and limiting my calories intake to 1200 or less but I really don't feel any restrictions? Any thoughts? Thanks Cindy

    Apology

I am very sorry I haven't been in to chat and visit with everyone. Unfortunately the lapband and weight loss has been the furthest from my mind as of late. My most favorite aunt has been suffering for a long time with cancer, they recently told her there was nothing more they could do for her, that she had 10 days to 10 weeks, go home drink martinis and enjoy the rest of your life. She did. And she left us Wednesday. I have been an emotional roller coaster since. I want to feel good about this. Finally she isnt suffering, there is no pain in eating and drinking, no pain in her body. But we (her entire extended family) were just not ready to let her go. I started the first day with Cookies, but soon started feeling like I needed to DO something. So I drained all 5000 gallons of my pool and leveled the ground beneth it properly, in the 102 degree (heat index) heat. The more the sweat poured off me the better I felt. Unfortunatly this hasnt made a dent in my weight but right now I just dont care. As long as I am moving and working I am ok. If I stop and be still I loose it. If I am alone, I loose it. And she would be very upset with me for that. So I work my butt off so I don't think about it. This has been my life lately. I will be back soon, I just need some time to get over this. All my best!

    Soooo Hungry!

I'm 4 weeks out and constantly starving!!! I eat my protein religiously but an hour later I'm starving again! Is this normal??
  5. swimmom

Not being able to eat meat...

It is a form of dumping. I had it the first time I tried fish - any type of meat is a dense protein - it will take your body longer to adjust. You may need to wait a few weeks, and then try again - but only start with a bite at a time and work your way up!

    serum protein level dropping

well the vitamin levels arent back yet and i will discuss all of it with the surgeon next week. in the meantime I am increasing my protein by 10mg a day to 85mg. I did research and the recomended amount in some of the bariatric literature is 1 to 1.5 mg per kg of normal weight. That is a lot! for an 85 kg man that is 85- 127 gms a day!
  7. I had my daughter 8 weeks ago and I'm finding the weight lose really slow did anyone else feel the same way
  8. AngelaEEEE

    Peanut Butter

I was eating pb at about two weeks as well.
  9. I had the same thing happen to me post-op! I would dream about eating a chip before remembering that I was on a liquid only diet. The good news is that once I went to mushies, those dreams went away! I have four kids at home & I had to prepare their meals each day...that was very tough while I was on liquids. I had a few breakdowns where I cried, but you know what??? I made it through it & I am 30 pounds lighter just 7 weeks post-op! I did leave the room while others were eating (when it was possible, sometimes it just wasn't). It is tough, but it is only a short amount of time...hang in there.
  10. Welcome! I am three days post op and I had dreams about food the first two nights. The night after surgery I was watching people eat and couldn't get to them. The second night I was in a lunch line picking stuff out but the stupid lunch ladies would not give me anything. I think the dreams are for a few reasons. I don't know about you but I am not hungry at all so I don't think it is physical hunger. I know I have an addiction to food. When I quit smoking I dreamed about smoking so it does not surprise me when I "quit" food I would dream about it. My husband pointed out that you are exposed to food no matter where you go. In the hospital my roomate was on a normal diet and got a huge tray of food. I got 1 oz of Jello that I never bothered to try and eat. Eating is also social. I came home last night and my family was tired and just wanted quick pizza. I ordered it for them. It was strange watching them eat. I was not hungry and really didn't want any but felt I was not a part of the group because I was trying to get a few ounces of Propel Water down not chowing on pizza. Last night I felt a loss of the social part. Hang in there. I know it will get better. Hopefully my ramblings let you know you are not alone.

    Needing Reassuring

@@jocelyndavisss There's no doubt about it, I sympathize that it is going to be a struggle. People in their late teens to early 20's generally eat lots of things that at this point you can't or shouldn't, and they eat it in quantities that you probably never will again (or hopefully not). I know this is easier said than done, but you are going to have to learn to eat differently than the people around you. You will probably not be able to avoid the situations where people are eating things you shouldn't. At three weeks post surgery (and in the pureed stage), you are pretty limited in going to restaurants. Even Soups need to be regarded carefully, since they often have things (like chips or clams or potatoes, etc.) that you shouldn't have at this point. Later, when in the regular foods stage, going out to restaurants will be easier. As @@dhrguru said, analyze the menu at places you go out to and see if there are alternatives that work for you, or share a plate with someone else (since the amount you will be able to eat will be so small). You will always have to be careful of fried foods, Desserts, carb heavy stuff (like mac-n-cheese, Pasta, pizza crust, hamburgers, etc.), and so on. Protein will be king, and you will want to eat it first before anything else, followed by fruits and vegetables, and finally if room left carbs. Yeah, I know, totally different from what your friends are eating, and probably makes you feel upset, left out, deprived. I get it. Unfortunately, with the path you have chosen (which is a great path, and a wonderful decision for your health and for how you will feel I am sure) you will eat differently from them. But maybe you can also be an inspiration to some of them to eat more healthy too! Just focus on how good you will feel when you can wear fashionable clothes, do outdoor activities with friends, and not worry about people judging you because of your weight. And congratulations on your weight loss so far. That's excellent! I'm sure you are proud of yourself, and you should be! Good luck, and my positive thoughts go out to you. You can do it!
  12. Yeah I feel like I cheat daily, I'm supposed to be on fulls but I can 100% tolerate soft foods. So I test little things here and there but for the most part keep to the diet. I've done some research and I think my surgeons office is more strict than others. They want 2 weeks fulls, 2 weeks pureed, then 2 weeks soft. There are those grey areas between each where foods can be in more than one catagory. I've just learned to not sweat it and try my best. At least I'm not noshing on crap. If I cheat, it's something like pureed avocado, split pea soup, beans etc. I start pureed in a few days, that should be better. I plan to make pureed chicken salad and other meats with sauce. I just want meat already!
  13. Hi, Roger. You'll have plenty of time to get what you need before surgery. I think the best stuff was some kind of liquid antacid...I even used simethicone drops for babies. Sugar-free popsicles were really great! A heating pad for the gas pains, which I thought were the worst part of the surgery, but not all people have the same problem. I guess because not all people feel pain the same. It was a little uncomfortable getting a good sleeping position for a week or so, but it goes by fast, and then you tend to forget all about it. Check the "search" feature and see what others have to say about preparing for surgery. Good luck! Cindy
  14. For 2 weeks idk something they make u do.
  15. Patients that are at risk of developing blood clots or have had them prior do have to stay on them a little longer. I had a previous clot and was put on Lovenox injections for 2 weeks after surgery. The injections bruise badly and can become sore so I stayed as far away from my incisions as possible. I think most people only get the shots while in the hospital.

    Have you tried Gordons Talapia

Just bought these a couple of weeks ago and I love them. Easy to prepare and very tasty. Multiple flavors so I don't get bored. These are great and keep you on track. Big thumbs up.

    I tried some protien powder..

Yeah, your body has to get adjusted to your new eating habits... When you start taking Protein it usually takes your body a week or two to actually adjust. Once it does you will start feeling more energetic and less fatigue. Plus if you are waking up in the more starving, it is a great thing because you are suppose to fast through out the night. Once you eat Breakfast you should feel extremely refueled.

    Gas post op

Walking, walking, walking! And it takes a good 3 weeks to level out entirely - you will sound like an orchestra for awhile! Anesthetic and the air they pump into the abdominal cavity is the cause of the gas pains. Hang in there, it improves daily. Also do not get dehydrated, carry water with you always.

How much did you lose on Pre-Opt diet?

I lost about 15=17 pounds on my preop.... I did a week of liquids.... then I did some liquids and a low carb high protein low cal dinner.... Then 4 days before surgery I went back to only shakes.... I use newlifestyle shakes
  20. I've been filled before, lost some weight, then lost restriction. Because of various factors (moving across the country, not having a doctor pn the east coast yet, not having a job and therefore living on a tight budget, and then the worst--my dad dying), weight loss hasn't been as much of a priority the past six months as it could have been. So I have been at a plateau for 6 months. Finally, I'm going in next week to get a fill. For some reaosn I feel so nervous though! I guess I'm worried that the doctor will do it too tight, or not tight enough, then I'll have to get adjusted right away again (and pay $ again). I couldn't find any doctor in my area to do the fill under fluoroscopy for a reasonable price, so I'm doing it without fluoro. Anyone else ever felt scared about getting a fill? I guess I'm just nervous about what to expect after a "blind" fill.
  21. My surgeon never does fills under fluoroscopy, unless he suspects there's a reason it's needed. I've never had a problem getting a "blind fill", because even though it can't be seen, it can be felt. I don't work in the field so I can't say for sure, but he has been very detailed in desscribing how the resistance on the syringe helps indicate fill level to him (remember, the saline is under pressure - when the port is hit, you can have a little geyser in the syringe). And a lot of it is hit or miss. But I think this would also be true for fluroscopy. It only shows what's going on that particular moment in time. Sometimes I'm just tighter than others. I figure odds are about even that I could have a "tight day" under fluoroscopy and look like I'm adequately filled, and need a fill 2 weeks later... or I could have the same fill without fluoroscopy and need the same fill 2 weeks later.
  22. So I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and it's an extended pre-op diet because I have such a high BMI and fatty liver syndrome. So it's twenty days of these specially formulated Protein shakes from Minogue Medical, and a maximum of 250 calories worth of low glycemic vegetables a day. Up until this point, I have spent so much time doing research, picking up ideas on foods to make after my surgery and getting myself as familiar as I can with everything, but now that I'm the day before my pre-op diet, I'm starting to think... "this is actually happening" and I'm getting exceptionally nervous. I know this pre-op diet is going to be really hard, but I also know that I can do it. It's just now I realize that I'm less than three weeks away from getting on a plane and flying to Mississauga, where I'll have my surgery and it's making me incredibly anxious. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to deal with pre-op nerves? Maybe any tips on how to stay focused and not "cheat" while on the pre-op diet? Any help would be great. Thanks, Rachel
  23. This happened last week. I met my surgeon (PRE-OP) and I dont know what hit me but when I was driving home, I played Katy Perry ROAR! Sang at the top of my lungs and just started crying. Thinking about the second chance to live the REST OF MY LIFE AT THE BEST OF MY LIFE! Take a listen and sing with me http://youtu.be/CevxZvSJLk8 I am going to sing in my gown with my daughter before surgery! LOVE YA

    is it just me?

I noticed that the gas subsided about three months after surgery. Gassy days are rare now. I am eating the same diet as back then. Not sure what happened but I'm much happier now. GasX really didn't help much that I could tell.

    Feeling Like A Failure

Oh, I forgot something kind of important. After my surgeon's madatory 6 weeks post-op I did get a fairly conservative fill (dont remember how much) and the result was I couldnt eat ANY solids with out excruciating pain in my chest (NO NOT heartburn,...much much worse. and it was right after I swollowed. so a few das later I went in for a partial unfil.l and then, liek I said before, I went right back to my old ways...and with little to no problem......eat any amount, eat any kind of food. Occasionally the first meal something will get stuck and I have sliming etc. but never an y PB's . SInce this unfill, I havent seen my surgeon. its been months now!!
