    Annoyed with new P.A.

Sounds like a case of verbal vomit... Good luck with your weight loss journey!
  2. So I was trying to set some long-term goals and trying to see what would be reasonable. So I went back and tracked my loss by month. In the first month I lost 27 pounds, in the 2nd I lost 16 pounds. If I was able to continue the 16lb/month loss, I would be well under my ultimate weight loss goal in May, which would be 9 months post op. Do you think that is reasonable? I don't want to set myself up for disappointment and discouragement, but at the same time, I want something to motivate and push me.
  3. My weight loss has slowed down significantly but I am trying not to panic (yeah right). Below are my monthly losses with my sugery date of 9/16/16. My starting weight was 231 and I am now 181. Sept. -24 Oct. -12 Nov. -7.5 Dec. - 4 Jan. - 2 Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Cruise Update!!

I am glad you are getting an unfill. Congrats on the weight loss but you may not be doing it the healthiest way. You need more than cottage cheese and smoothies to get all the nutrition you need. You are right to be concerned about being that far away while you are so tight. I would get an unfill and leave it there when you get back and see how you do.

    Cruise Update!!

Our last cruise, I lost weight also... I decided to go for it and be a complete hedonist for 9 days........didn't care what I would eat, drink, etc....was going to put the band to the test!!!!! Know what? The band was right there doing it's job....no matter what I put on my plate, or how much, the portion size I could eat was no different than any other day. And the types of food I cannot tolerate didn't change just because I was on ship. Sure I snacked all day....but it all worked out. (skinny people snack too....it's part of the new life) That's the thing about the band....there is nothing you can do to make it less effective than what it is adjusted to do.... Now if you don't have adequate restriction, and you're always fighting the over eating and cravings....that's another story. Plus I was doing my daily 5K's at 5:30 every morning, always took the stairs, had bottled Water in my hands at all times, and took my Protein supplements. I LOVE my band....best (and easiest) thing I have ever done for weight loss.
  7. Walkermy ...if you don't mind me asking what kind of hormonal issue? I have PCOS which is basically a hormonal issue but never caused hair loss prior to surgery and I have had it for 16 years. What kind of treatment did you use?
  8. It's a huge reality check and even more so once you have the band and begin your weight loss journey. You won't regret it, just know it will change your lifestyle and mindset about food, fitness, and oh yes...new clothes!!!
  9. Here is a update on my weight loss. So far I have lost 12pds in 1 month I have had 2 fills. You will find on my website that i have some pictures that i took a little bit after my surgery and then the next group of pictures in the different photo albulm are the most recent. I can tell the weight is going away in my face. Please excuse some of my pictures. Some of them are sideways and i cannot figure out how to turn them. Let me know what your feedback is. http://photos.yahoo.com/lovemeacb4e http://photos.yahoo.com/lovemeacb4e

    Sleep Apena

Tyme...you need a sleep study right away! I have sleep apnea and I did the same thing. Sleep apnea can go away with weight loss, but not until you loose at least 25 percent of your body weight. Everyone is different. I use a CPAP machine. I have had it for about 4 years. It was hard to get used to the machine, but now I can't sleep without it. Sleep apnea is extremely dangerous. It can cause a heart attack or stroke, plus you are a danger on the road. I kept falling asleep at the wheel too. The lap band surgeon can't help you with this. Your primary Dr. will send you to a pulmonary specialist who can order a sleep study and get you on the right track

    Simple math, right?

Well, you are correct as far as math. The bottom line is, if you consume less calories than you burn, you will lose weight. With that said, the human body isn't so logical I've lost as much as 27 pounds in a month and as little as 7 pounds in a month. There is literally zero difference in my diet and exercise between months. I'm actually pretty strict with myself so it's not a matter of cheating either. Still, there's a huge difference, right? That's because while the math is correct, there's a lot of biology that math doesn't take into account. If your body was a machine, you'd be all set, but because you're human expect some surprises along the way, both good and bad. Most surgeon say to expect/aim for a 1-2 pound per week loss. I think that's very realistic and anything beyond that is just bonus. Best wishes to you
  12. WHOOP WHOOP!!! 4 years post op, I am finally getting the scale to move again and my regain is officially gone. I was doing some Keto type eating, but now I'm trying to cut back the fat so it's more like a 'bariatric' type eating, just a low carb, high protein thing. I had been losing nicely for a long time then the scale completely stopped. What I THINK was happening is that my body had adjusted to ketosis and I was probably taking in a little too much dietary fat so I wasn't burning my own fat. Now that I've tweaked it my regain has dropped off and I'm back 'on the move'!!!! Hoping for a good 7-10 lb loss over the next month before I have some medical testing
  13. I was banded 3/9/09 and something that has surprised me is how different some things are than what I expected. I researched a lot, I read this board for months and months, and I feel that I know my body pretty well. It surprises me now how everything everyone on the boards are saying - make so much more sense. For example, I know everyone says this is a tool - but I thought I understood what that meant! But some thing still are surprising or different than what I expected. What about you? What have you learned that surprised you? 1. I'm surprised still at how much control I have over what I eat but at the same time how much control this band has over me. I thought the weight loss would be easier - but I still have to choose NOT to eat. Choose and plan healthy choices, Choose to get up off my butt and EXERCISE! I'm also still surprised at how the band chooses to be tight at times when I really don't want it to be! I'm realizing now that it is at PRECISELY those moments - that I need to be eating less - and it was in those moments in the past that I overate - and is what made me fat! 2. I'm surprised at how it feels when I have trouble eating or getting something stuck. I never could really undersand that. Its like a lump in your throat and its a real hard and sharp pain in your throat that involves your neck not just your stomach. I never really realized that in all the posts I read about what that felt like. I'm really interested in hearing what you all have to say!:tt2:

    Two Year Anniversary

Well done on the sustained weight loss over 2 yrs , that really is a great achievement . I too had a great christmas, i allowed myself to eat some christmas treats but made sure i burned them off with exercise and happily did not put on any weight over christmas at all, which was my plan. Last christmas i was on pre-op of just 600 calories a day and that was hard work but all that hard work paid off and this year i was able to enjoy myself .. keep up the good work !

    Port Placement? And Friends?

...thats so right. i told my husband last night that he wasnt to expect more beauty from me as a result of weight loss but that i would better health. im 65, i dont know how weight loss is going to affect my muscles, my face, my neck. reading these posts i can see that protein is an essential part of diet, to the point where it is encouraged to be taken by powder or liquid. im assuming that this is to help with the muscles in the body... not sure about that one. Im certainly going to try and keep a healthy skin, im not going to neglect my appearance. does anyone have any advice here for maintaining a smooth skin after surgery?? weight loss can cause havoc with the face and neck.
  17. My Dr told me to be eligible for surgery I would need to lose 30 lbs. I was thinking to myself, if I could lose weight I wouldn't need the surgery. But I am 21 days into my pre-op diet and have lost over 15 lbs. My wife who is also having the sleeve is in her clear liquid diet, I have decided to support her by limiting my diet to full liquid. This has helped, most days I have been able to keep my calorie count to under 1600. Wish me luck, we would like to get me scheduled for surgery by end of November. Wish me luck.

Is Too Much Fill - a Problem?

YES, it's a problem, and YES go get it unfilled enough so you can keep nourishment down! What you are doing by allowing this overfill to continue can be very dangerous to your body and it also sets you up to resist weight loss in the future because your body will go into starvation mode on that little nutrition and hoard everything you happen to give it for nourishment. To loose weight you need to eat like any other dieting person, that is 800 to 1000 calories a day. You still have to exercise and diet with the lap band, it just helps you not binge and over-do it. But get yourself unfilled down a little before you kill off your esophagus and worse!!

    Waiting really SUCKS!

I too am in the waiting process. I've spoken with the insurance co. and it's a green light, now I'm doing the monthly weigh-ins (for 6 freakin' months!!gah!). I'm trying to eat healthy, just to see if I can lose anything before Nov. But I cheat almost every other day (one day cheese cake, next time mini Mr. Goodbar's, and even too much macaroni and cheese). I just wish the surgery had already taken place and I was on the road to weight loss and results. **sigh** But I have to tough it out. Don't stress too much over it. I'm sure you will call again and speak to someone when you are sober and remember all that was said! LOL

    Irritated with jumping through hoops

Wow that is really far behind. I keep hearing only a couple weeks and had my heart set on it and now it goes from 2 weeks to 3 months! You should be proud of yourself for losing what you have, you kick started the weight loss! I definitely understand the frustration though and feeling like you did your part and are left hanging. The other day my appointment was for Monday and they had to cancel last minute as their dietician was I'll. Which cost me about 250$. I'm a massage therapist and I took the day off as it's a total of 6 hrs driving (3 there, 3 back). And lost that day of work. Then I get told I have to have the appointment by the end of this week because insurance requires it to be a month apart. So I cancel all my clients for today to make it. So much money gone. And originally I was going to have my dad drive me he also took the day off, and wasn't able to get today off so I drive myself and went broke paying for gas. So irritated!!

    Weight loss pills with Lapband

Phen Phen is different from phentermine. If I remember correctly..phen phen was a combination of two medications (the the other half of it was the one that was giving people heart problems etc.) I was not losing weight after having my fourth fill despite doing all the right things. I went to a weight loss doctor who was I was actually referred to by my surgeon because this doctor is an expert in weight loss issues and does thorough blood tests after surgery. I dont know if my surgeon advocates phentermine or not because I have not seen him for two months. My fifth fill was postponed for an extra month. (Surgeon totally overbooked) Back to phentermine. I read the post below of the horror story and I would just like to respond that most people who have been on a diet have regained the weight and more. (I have done that a million times) And I have never taken phentermine before now. I have had a great experience with phentermine. It helps cravings and appetite control. You cant be on it forever but in my case it has been a good thing. I have finally started losing weight and dont have any adverse side effects. I do have to say the first week I was on it I did feel buzzed and tired all at once and it wasnt a good feeling. That went away and I now feel totally normal minus the cravings and appetite. I think its a very personal decision. Of course I wouldve preferred to have lost the weight without the phentermine. However this is working for me and I am very pleased. Once I get to the proper restriction ..I am hoping it will be easier to do the band alone. So obviously there are differing opinions on the subject. Several people have quite strong opposition to it. But as for me..I find it extremely helpful at this time. Hope that helps.
  24. Oye!! You'd think they'd get it, of all people! (HUFF!) (It's not the demand for pre-op weight loss I "huff" over...it's the being treated like a moron part. I HATE when doctors talk down to me like I just had a lobotomy or something. Doctors sometimes forget they are talking to people, not just "patients.")

    Healthy eating

I ate "healthy" before too, but I ate way too much and I had way to many treats on top of what was a well balanced healthy diet. If I'd not eaten as many muffins, cakes, Cookies etc on top of good wholesome foods like meats, wholegrains and veggies I wouldnt have been fat. But as far as heading through a drive through for every meal, no I didnt do that. I didnt often eat McDonalds, KFC, I didnt eat out more than once or twice a month, I didnt eat a lot of processed foods for my basic meals. I ate healthy. Its been easier for me not having to learn to cook, learn what healthy food is, learn how to eat healthy foods. I just had to cut out the extras. Dont underestimate portion control and what it can do - for most people it'll turn out to be at least 95% of the equation. You can eat a diet horrifically high in saturated fat and lose weight and you can eat a diet high in processed carbs and lose weight. Weight loss is really only about calories in and calories out no matter where the calories come from. So if you already eat healthy foods - that's great. Portion control will make the difference. But a band is also great at reminding you how many extras you eat because I find when I eat that muffin with a coffee at the shops, I cant eat my dinner. It makes me "remember" I ate it and my body forces me to account for it. And I feel very guilty for having a muffin for dinner! That's NOT healthy. If you truly only eat healthy foods, and dont eat extras, then I'd highly recommend working out just how many calories a day in healthy foods you are taking in - they must be big portions to have gotten you to the stage of needing a band. Or is it possible that you have the usual food amnesia that most of us have and that you certainly fit a fair bit of fat and sugar into that healthy diet to result in enough calorie overload for a weight problem?
