  1. Hey. I was banded on jan 22. I'm down about 13 pounds too. I was only on liquids for 4 days. Then I got the okay to eat mushies. Now today I got the okay to eat any food. My dietician who I'll be meeting with ever 2 weeks said that I should postpone my fill until I really need it. Meaning I'm doing really good with my weight loss. I eat really healthy. I eat mainly protein such as eggs or salmon. Also fresh veggies and fruits such as kale or fruit smoothies. And the other main food I eat is dairy such as 0% yogurt or 3% cottage cheese. I feel great. I understand completely how you feel. We all did this to see major weight loss. But with that said we are supposed to heal the first month and not get crazy about weight loss. I think your doing amazing and should be really proud of yourself. 13 pounds! We will get the results we want. It's just going to take some time.

    Any September Banders?

#1 Do for 10 days to break plateau #2 Drink 2 quarts of Water a day #3 You must have 45 grams of Protein supplement and all your Vitamin & mineral supplements each day. #4 You may consume up to 3 oz. of the following high-protein foods, 5 times a day: * beef, * pork, * chicken, * turkey, * lamb, * fish, * eggs, * low-fat cheese, * cottage cheese, * plain yogurt (or artificially sweetened), * Peanut Butter, * beans/legumes. #5 You may also have: * sugar-free popsicles (avoid juice popsicles), * tea or coffee, * sugar-free sodas, * sugar-free Jello, * broths & bouillons, * Crystal Lite drinks. #6 IF IT IS NOT ON THE LIST YOU MAY NOT HAVE IT! #7 Keep a food diary and try to get 30 minutes of exercise daily. Ideally you have someone you're doing it with, for encouragement, and for basically the reporting in part to help us. I'm doing it the 1st to the 10th. The 3rd/4th will be an interesting day, as I'll be on liquids/mushies with another fill. teri
  3. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and started feeling nausea and vomiting about 4-5 days ago. Has been constant if I try to eat anything (yogurt, Water, tea, etc) Not from over-eating since it usually occurs after one or two small sips or bites.
  4. I just moved from full liquids to purée. I did low fat cream soups, made with fairlife milk to get extra protein in. Also smooth sugar free Greek yogurt was recommended by my nutritionist. I could only do a couple tbs at a time but it was a nice switch from shakes. Oikos triple zero is good.
  5. My Sleeve loves: Mashed bananas dipped in chocolate pudding which has been infused with protein powder (favorite food to date...tastes like chocolate dipped bananas) scrambled eggs cottage cheese chicken salad string cheese granny smith apple sauce (no sugar added) protein bars (the soft ones with no crunchies) hummus salmon milk My Sleeve hates: Tuna salad regular apple sauce (no sugar added) Greek yogurt Still eating mushies (surgery was on 12/20/2011) More solid food to come in a week or so...might have an updated list then.

    5 weeks out evil pizza

I never blended meat. I did eat a lot of hummus, guacamole, refried beans, chicken/crab/ham/tuna/egg salad made with a lot of Greek yogurt and mayo and put through the mini chopper till it was paste and thin mashed taters with gravy to satisfy my craving for "real food".

    Pickiest of eaters!

I don't know if any of this will be helpful, but during this stage, I stuck with 2 Premier Protein shakes per day (to get higher protein numbers and it counts as liquids), plus I ate refried Beans (mushed up and chewed to liquid) and Laughing Cow cheese wedges. On rough days, I had 3 Premier shakes to get my 90 grams the easy way. When I wanted flavor, I had my Better Than Bouillon cup of broth, or I'd go to Panera for chicken noodle Soup and eat only the broth. From time to time, I would have instant mashed potatoes with a little bit of chicken gravy. It tasted so good and went down easily. I am an uber-picky eater as well, so this is what got me through. I would not eat pureed meat or baby food. I don't like yogurt and can barely stand pudding. Also, I hate the taste of whey, and only the Premier Protein Shakes taste good to me. So, I was very limited too, and sort of mixed the full liquids and pureed stage into something I could handle for that 2 week period. I absolutely do not think he should move to the next stage early - follow the doctor's plan to a "T." His huge staple line is healing and you don't want him to do anything that could cause a problem during these early weeks. As my surgeon explained to me, these are the crucial healing weeks - it is not about weight loss right now, it's about healing properly - since the "harm" could be damaging the staple line. But, as always, check with the doctor before deviating even a bit from the program that is outlined. Hang in there! ETA: Also, during these early weeks it's rare to feel hunger - I was super bored which made me want to eat, but I didn't actually feel like I needed to eat. And of course, this is how we get dehydrated and end up back in the hospital. It's such a balancing act - for 2 months I couldn't seem to get in my daily Water requirement and even now I sometimes miss it and feel so dry. Hunger does return but those first weeks are just regulating oneself to the new circumstances and the new stomach!

What did you eat today :) ?

OK, I've been eating too much of something. Weight is the top of the bounce range today: 137 (confession: I ate two ballpark hotdogs, 1 oz. BBQ chips, and 1/3 C. chili with cheese and onions instead of my planned dinner last night) So today, it's all good, no junk. 895 calories and 74 grams of Protein. And I will be tracking fluids. When I get back to 135, I will be tracking in maintenance a little better to see where the problem is. I know some people don't want to think about food this much, but I am grateful to be at goal and I'd rather think about food now than think about it after I have more to lose. B: 1 slice WW bread, 2 oz. 98% fat free ham (110 calories, 13 g. protein) S: Iced Decaf Soy Latte (I use Starbucks instant decaf, mix with cold soy milk and then blend with a few ice cubes.) (9 grams of protein) L: 1/2 cup chopped lettuce, 1/4 cup chopped tomato, 1 green onion, 1/4 avocado, 2 oz. low fat turkey lunch meat, 1 slice WW bread, toasted and chopped into croutons, 1 T. light ranch dressing mixed with 1 T. Fage 0 (235 calories, 13 grams protein) S: I cup watermelon cubes (80 calories, 0 grams of protein) D: 1 Bistro Sensations chicken Sausage, 1/3 ear corn, 1/2 cup sauteed summer squash cooked with 1 t. olive oil (195 calories, 16 grams protein) S: shake of 1 cup Fage 0 Greek Yogurt, Splash of OJ, 2 strawberries, splash of Water, and Splenda (150 calories, 23 grams of protein

What did you eat today :) ?

Heh. 135.9 today, but I'm beating my way back to 135 before I add back Snacks unless we go out to dinner tonight, in which case I will have a low calorie meal and two cocktails. Yesterday, I had an extra evening snack of 1 oz. pretzels and I only got in 7 cups of Water instead of 8. Today, I'm planning around 1,000 calories for food, 74 grams of Protein and possibly 250 calories in drinks if we go out. I walked for an hour this morning and worked hard in the yard for an hour. I'm pooped, but the yard looks good. Shooting for 8 cups of Fluid again today. B: Soy Latte, then an hour later a slice WW bread, 2 oz. 98% fat free ham, and 1/2 banana (250 calories, 22 g. protein) L: Open faced sandwich of 1/2 large sliced tomato, 1/4 cup grilled summer squash with 1 tsp olive oil, 1 oz. goat cheese, 1 oz. 98% fat free ham, 1 slice WW bread (250 calories, 14 grams protein) S: 1 cup watermelon cubes (80 calories, 0 grams protein D: ? Not sure but will include 3 oz. of protein and some veggies and a starch and come in around 250 calories S: 1 cup Fage 0 yogurt, 1/2 c. blueberries, splenda (170 calories, 23 grams of protein)

    Venison And Elk Meat..

marinading these meats are important....They are very lean and dry out fast...Cook as you would a roast but not as long....there are many marinades out there for beef...You can use onion Soup mix, yogurt garlic and thyme....The sauce makes a great gravy! My son bagged a moose 2 years ago and we ate a lot of moose meat.....using the slow cooker was a life saver....

I am not doing well on pre-op diet...

Optifast Our doctors differ slightly in the pre-op diet. The GOAL is to shrink the fatty liver so that the surgeons have less to 'work around' remember that the stomach lies under the liver... and that the liver is a very large organ. So now you know why it is important. If the optifast is nasty try MY doctors pre-op diet. Non-fat or 1% Cottage cheese, non fat sugar free yogurt, now of these things you don't have to weight or measure, if your hungry eat it... I especially liked Cottagecheese mixed with sweetner of choice and cinnamon... pretty good. another bandster said he got through it by mixing MUSTARD with his cottage cheese (I havn't tried it) and Yogurt, well I've always liked it... I went to Toronto Lap Band Centre and Dr. Yau has done 1000's of these proceedures in Canada and this is the diet we all followed. If we really rebelled then the Nutritionist would let us have broiled chicken breast(no fat in prep.) and green salads in addition to the yogurt and cot. cheese I hope this helps and that the time you wait for your surg goes quickly... Hang in there, you'll be so happy on day of surg when you are down those BONUS lbs. Trust me
  15. Kerri - don't get discouraged. I also ate LOW calories and would stall; I'd go up and down for several days before the two lbs would stay off! Let me ask you a few questions about what you are eating. First of all, I am a BIG cottage cheese eater. I call it the 'Breakfast of champions' - are you buying 1% cottage cheese? If not...SWITCH!!! When you are eating cheddar etc, make sure it is 2% and don't over do, get a scale and weigh it. I like to add a half oz to a scrambled egg, but there is a lot of fat in even 2% cheese, so don't over do!! I start every morning and end every day with 8 oz of SKIM milk.....it counts as part of my liquids and also protein!! Up your protein, I get in 60 - 75 grams per day!! Cheese and ham both have salt in them and will make you retain water...so beware! Make sure your refried beans are fat free and again, weigh how much cheese you are adding to them. Cheese has protein, but it also has FAT!!! Add a little Greek yogurt for protein to the refried beans! Avacado is also a 'good fat' but you want to limit that as well. I don't see eggs mentioned at all....they're a good source of protein if you like them. I "fry" them in a non stick skillet with NO grease or scramble one. A can of solid white tuna in water mixed with 2 TB of lite mayo is great.....eat half and you have 13 grams of protein. I love it on top of Special K crackers. (half is one fourth cup) Good luck......enjoy the journey!!!! I weigh myself every day.....don't cry, the scale goes up and down all the time!!!
  16. I followed a very basic, low carb/high Protein meal plan. I ate 4 meals per day, each meal had a minimum of 15gr of protein. This accomplished 2 things; 1) kept me within my calorie/carb/protein guideline 2) kept me from snacking which is heavily discouraged. My plan stated 600-800 calories, NO more than 30-40gr of carbs (and this is ALL carbs, good/bad, white/complete/whole grain etc, a carb is a carb), and at least 60gr of protein. I ate lots of meat, cheese, greek yogurt, and eggs once I got to regular food. Carbs are my enemy when it comes to weight loss/gain, and like I said, I don't care what source of carb they are classified in. I had a totally boring meal plan, but a little creativity and recipe tweaking made things much easier.
  17. Here's a true sample: B - Isopure shake (50g of protein) S - Grapes (2-3oz) L - 1/2 can of Albacore Tuna, lots of spinich greens, romaine lettuce, red onions, sprinkle american cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, 5 croutons and Mikoto ginger dressing S-1/2 of Isopure drink D - Sometimes the other half of the salad, at other times, grilled chicken breast, steamed broccoli with velveta cheese melted on it (1 slice) S-Light Dannon Yogurt drink 1-gallon or more of Water daily Also too, dinner life has really changed in my home. I prepare my daily meals early in the morning and will eat according to plan throughout the day. I will, however make my family a separate meal for dinner, such as pork chops, mac n cheese, cooked veggies. They will never eat what I make for me therefore, I have to take care of them differently.
  18. A few things that I found and did when I went back to work were: You will probably be beat after work. Good idea about going back on a Thursday. That's what I did and by friday afternoon I was SOOOOOO tired. I rested the majority of the weekend. So just don't be disappointed if you go back and realize you can't keep up with the same pace that you used to. Second, I bring all my food with me. I was the epitome of the opposite of this before surgery, I bought breakfast at DD, lunch at either a diner or chinese, and then dinner, we typically went out to eat. No wonder I was so unhealthy!! Anyway, I realized 1) I wouldn't be able to get all the protein in if I didn't bring my own foods and 2) those old places didn't really have anything sleeve friendly. I"m two months out and I still can't find much that I would want to eat there. I usually bring a shake and some greek yogurt and a string cheese. That gets me through the day and then I have a really lean high protein dinner with a little veggies if I have room. I am still having a hard time getting all the fluids in during the workday because I am so preoccupied. But we'll all get there. :-) Hope this helps. It really helps if you have an understanding boss and coworkers too. Cause your feet will probably be dragging for the first week. But the energy will come back!

    January Surgeries

Started my diet today, feeling pretty good because I can have fruit and veggies and yogurt! 10 days till surgery and I am getting very anxious. But nonetheless, excited!

    Protein, Protein, Protein

Allow me to disagree. You can't expect somebody who's just had surgery to have 80-100gr a Protein daily. That's just not possible. I am three days out and my new stomac can't handle more than 3 table spoons of yogurt at a time if not less. We all do it at our own pase, as are all different. Weight loss is not a race and we all do it differently. My surgeon in fact dos expect it. He said there was no physical reason someone couldn't drink 3 Premier Protein drinks in one day (33 oz of fluid/90 grams of protein) and expected us to do it. It can be done. It may take all day, but it can be done. This is in US. In uk is more about real food. Not Protein powder.

    Yogurt

Unfortunately without the nutrition information it's hard to say. A good source of Protein will not have more than 10x the Calories than it does protein. For example if the yogurt has 12 grams of protein it shouldn't be more than 120 calories. When I eat yogurt it's Oikos Triple zero. 15 grams protein in 120 calories. Yogurt

As for yogurt, I like the one the poster mentioned, I get the fat free plain, it is loaded with protein and low on calories and carbs. To me it taste like sour cream, maybe I haven't had food in a while lol! You can added sugar free flavorings, like you use for coffee, also adding powders is good if you let it sit for a day first. I like a white chocolate peanut butter made by Allwhey. You can put it on scrambled eggs with some hot sauce. I like it on fat free refried beans, with a poached egg too. I know Krogers makes a yogurt called Carve Cravers (or cutters?) it is like 60 calories for serving and has some good flavored, white chocolate raspberry is my favorite. I love getting cans of diced tomatoes, krogers makes a salsa style, but Hunts fire roasted are good too. I doctor them up with spices (Cajun, Italian, garlic, black pepper) then cover fish or chicken breast and bake in the oven. The left over tomatoes I eat on top of low fat cottage cheese, cold the next day - taste like cold baked manicotti. I love it. I make a quiche I made a post about, the tomatoes are good on top of that, as well as the plain greek yogurt. Sometimes I just have 3 slices of 97% fat free smoked ham for a meal, low calories and 15 g protein. Bubblebee tuna makes some premixed packets, usually a dollar, you get 3.5oz and low calories and carbs and like 20g of protein, I like the hot chili tuna, again, local groceries are making their own brand. I also use the fat free yogurt to make tuna salad and chicken salad, with same spices as tomatoes above, just put in food processor for the backed breast chicken salad. I made a chicken and tofu sweet and sour soup and added plain protein powder to it, it was pretty awesome. I starting to eat kimchi and precooked shrimp, which for calories is the best protein source I have found.

    Yogurt

I just looked up the nutrition stats on a couple of the flip flavors and in my opinion, the carb count is too high. My preference for yogurt are the dannon light and fit greek yogurt followed by the oikos triple zero. Other breakfast options I use are low fat cottage cheese or a scrambled/hard boiled egg.

    Hungry already! Is this normal?

7 days post-op and also hungry. This isn't head hunger, I know the difference. Head hunger I can actually ignore, real hunger drags me out of bed at 3am for a yogurt just to stop the pain so I can sleep. I mentioned the hunger to the bariatric nurse when she called to check on me. She said the liquid phase is the worst and once I move to pureed foods, I will start feeling more satisfied. Maybe true but doesn't alleviate the disappointment we feel from being hungry after this operation when we are told that we won't be. On the plus side I have already dropped 6.5 pounds on top of the 10 pounds(!) of Water weight I gained in the hospital. I have never seen the scale drop so fast. Now to survive another week of liquids....
