So we have a scale at work-which I just discovered. It's a community scale for anyone to use. I just weight myself and I came in at 237.8lbs....now I'm a little hesitant to believe this due to me getting weight at the doctors office and I was 248lbs less than a week ago. This doesn't make sense. I have been working out but lately not eating well. I haven't had the surgery yet and I'm skeptical to trust this in fear of getting my hopes up just to be crushed...... Also, I'm starting to question wither I should have the surgery or not. Everyone keeps telling me it's the "easy way out", but they have No idea.....idk I'm just a bundle of mixed emotions. Sorry

Hi, everyone. I qualify for lap band surgery (BMI of 38 and I have severe sleep apnea). I am currently on health insurance that covers lap band after a 6-month supervised diet. I've dieted forever and forever and tried to lose weight forever and forever, but never medically supervised. I did start weight watchers in late March, so my 6 months with that will be up in mid September. I am hoping to switch jobs and therefore insurances starting September 1, 2011 (I'm a teacher). I would be offered group coverage through my new employer, but there is a specific exclusion to bariatric surgery. (Same is true with my husband's insurance). From what I can tell, I will not be allowed to purchase cobrar insurance from my current employer if I am offered group insurance through my new employer. Is this still true if there are huge changes in coverage? Anyone have experience with this? I really want to figure out a way to get my surgery covered but still be able to change jobs in September. Any advice? Any way I can use my previous diets to qualify for the surgery during the summer? Why, oh why do I find out that I have severe sleep apnea and finally qualify for the lap band at this exact time when I am very close to having a new job lined up that I'm really looking forward to???? The timing couldn't be worse...

Ope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Ours was fantastic. Spent the better part of the week at my brother's home. The hustle and bustle of getting ready for the holiday was exhilarating. Wednesday, my godson was off from work. We woke up early, went to pick up the pies and then I took him to a pancake house for Breakfast. Being on liquids, i just sipped my Water, while Jace drowned his chocolate chip pancakes in syrup and dunked his bacon in the syrup. Afterwards, we went back home and he performed for me. He is 10 and musically, gifted. Played the drums for a while, then got on his piano and played Bach and Chopin for me. Anyway, yesterday, we all decided to go shopping. We ended up at Tarjay boutique, and my sister in law said 'Laura, we need to find you some pants, yours are unbelievably baggy on you. Grrrr, now starts the stress. Number one, I didnt want her to know my pants size is 24, number two, I hate clothes shopping. I look like a bum in everything! Ok, so she says to me 'get in the dressing room, Jay and I will bring you stuff to try on. She said 'MAKE SURE YOU COME OUT AND SHOW US BEFORE TAKING ANYTHING OFF.' So she says What size do you need? I honestly didnt know so I figured I lost some weight, maybe a 22?? Kim and Jay start marching from the clothing racks to the dressing room with jeans. The first 2 pairs Kim brings are size 18. I said 'kim, i will NEVER fit into these. And to make matters worse, they were skinny jeans. Imagine my surprise when they fit! I was absolutely blown away. I came out of the dressing room all timid like and embarrassed...and when they saw me in them, they started whooping and clapping and telling me how wonderful I looked. I felt hideous. I am 51 yrs old wearing skinny jeans and felt ridiculous. Jay and kim told me how great I looked and convinced me to buy 2 pairs. I started purees on Thanksgiving so I was petrified to get on the scale today. Felt like I gained 20 lbs now that I am eating. I was sooo surprised to see I lost another 4 lbs since Tuesday. But I stll went back to Target this morning and returned both pairs of jeans. I still cant juatify sticking my old carcass in clothes made for younger women. No matter how good they said I looked. Besides, they are family, they're supposed to say things like that.

Hi my name is Anica I have been having weight problem since high school. The older I am getting it is harder to lose weight the traditional way. I work out 3-4 time a week and watch what I eat. Still the weight doesn't come off. I have tried weight watcher, paleo, doctor approve weight loss program, and evening juicing. Nothing has work may have lose 10lbs and then gain it all back and even more. 2011 I wanted the weight loss surgery so I schedule an appt. to find out that the insurance I had didn't cover it so I cancelled the surgery. As of Jan 1, 2014 the insurance I have now covers it so I made up in my mind that I will get the surgery to help me with the weight loss. I am using this as a tool knowing I will need to work to keep it off. When I tell people how much I way they look at me like I am joking because I don't look like I am that big, but the scale says I am. I am in a size 18 some 16 depending on how it is maded. The doctor I am using I have heard great things about. I already did the seminar online and pass the test that is at the end of the seminar. I had file out paper work online which ask question like how long have you been over weight and what type of plan have you been on to lose weight. Also asked about the insurance once I done this about two day later I received a call from the office stating they called the insurance company and got approved that this was a cover surgery. I got so excited. My consulation is Feb 13, 2014 for the sleeve. Once I go for all the other preop stuff. I can have a surgery date sometime in the end of March. While I am waiting I am still going to watch the things I eat and still do my workout.

Newbie, 9 days post surgery
Bandista replied to lthueme's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there and welcome! I have learned so much here -- there are a lot of knowledgable and compassionate people willing to answer questions or chime in about their own experiences. I have been banded six weeks so am new as well. It's the best thing I've done in I don't know how long and I only wish I had gotten it sooner as the last two decades have been one long struggle with weight issues. I am 52, live in NH where we have a lot of snow right now. This time last year I had never even heard of LapBand! I'm learning what it means to have a band -- have had two fills so far and go back Monday to assess for another. I think my surgeon is fairly aggressive. Right now I'm not hungry in the mornings so my first meal is "brunch" and I am enjoying good food in small quantities. We had a dinner party last night (my band is a secret) and I did fine -- delicious chicken curry and I just skipped the rice. Was not looking for more food or snacking later while we were cleaning up -- loving that release from food jail and having that appetite monster off my back. Best wishes to you -- look forward to seeing you on-line! -
Weight gain in the hospital?
Di in Idy replied to aTXtumbleweed's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I also gained in the hospital but was forwarned by doctors staff that this would happen. I actually did not weigh myself for a week or so after surgery. I felt pretty lousy and just wanted to forget the whole thing. Hang in there...it will come off soon. This is a life long journey. There will be ups and downs along the way but your health will improve. Slowly or quickly depends on your physical self, age, ability to be 100% true to the program or only 80%, 70% or what ever it is. -
keea LOL you are definitely NOT the only one that does daily weigh ins if i had a donut - ahhhhh i mean a Protein shake for everyone that weighs every day - i could open my own store!!!! "i get upset if i dont loss weight... crazy" mannnnny people tell you/me to hide the scale, it will drive you crazy - get rid of it et al if you are watching the scale too much - being upset if it doesn't move correctly - then i would "make" myself/force myself to get on the scale only once a week that being said.......... i have always weighed daily, and will probably continue to do so I need to make sure that i'm staying at the right weight it fluctuates sometimes - 2-3 lbs at the most won't let the weight gain get any higher people have been shot for less as far as the mood thing - i don't know, i never had that problem - (cuz i'm so wonderful, sweet and perfect!! ) but i hear stuff about hormones maybe affecting different things good luck kathy

Yes, B12 deficiency can cause fatigue and a host of other issues, too. But it sounds like you should talk to someone in person, if that's an option for you. Sometimes the start of the weight loss journey brings other issues we have (but blamed on the weight) to a head. It's not uncommon for people to battle depression after surgery. In fact, there's a sticky'd thread about it somewhere on VST! I'd get in to the doc and ask for guidance. Perhaps counseling could help. Vitamin deficiency could be a culprit and exercise will help you release more serotonin and help you feel less "down." This could be your signal, feeling this way, to get started on the head work that should accompany your surgery. Periods of depression happen to a lot of us (I've had my share!) but getting at the underlying issue can only help you in the long run to be a happier and overall healthier person. Best, ~Cheri

I had the lap band on March 15th 2017. I started off weighting 205. Today i weight 185 a total weight loss of 20 pounds in 4 months. Is this normal shouldn't it be more? I have a 10 cc band and currently have 6.5 cc in it. I been working out 4 to 5 times a week and feel like I'm not losing anything for all the hard work I'm doing... Also i have PCOS and i thought this would help it but no luck yet... I'm thinking i should have got the sleeve... Any thoughts or words of encouragement. Or how's the weight loss for everyone else going at 4 months in?? Please help... Sent from my SM-G935P using BariatricPal mobile app

Picking one that fits with your personal preferences I think is best. One that frequently works well for bandsters is atkins because we already tend to cut out bread, rice, and pasta. South Beach and Mediterranean diets are also good low carb ones to try. If you're not into low carb then there's calorie counting like weight watchers or some people just like journaling and going low-fat. The lapband generally makes dieting easier so feel free to try some out and see what you like. I think the important thing is to stick with one and not try to combine them. If you're doing a low-carb diet like atkins and then decide to try doing low-fat by having a subway sub then you're in trouble because you just downed about 10 times the allowable carbs in a day. Lol.

My husband & I both have our surgery dates!
weho replied to dallasmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow, you "won" a surgery!?! That is awesome! It is so cool that you and your husband are going through this together. Even though my husband didn't have the surgery I feel like it really pulled us together. Once I "survived" surgery he became really excited about my decision and has been cheering me on ever since. I think he understands now how desperate I was to lose weight. Obviously you have a great surgeon with Dr. Kim! Keep us updated. -
Is it possible for the sleeve to not work on someone? Is it possible to never lose weight even though they have 85 percent of their tummy taken away? Has anyone ever heard of someone failing their sleeve and it being a waste of time. mine isnt doing anything 5 weeks into sugery and feeling like i wish i could get my tummy back and try a different surgery. ugh

My Dr. cautioned to be careful in this phase (I'm in Phase 3- but it's similar to your phase 2) because you are eating again but not restricted and often people gain...he said he'd be happy if I maintained during this phase before the fill..... It seems that it may be common.... I think I under eat, for fear of the pain associated with eating too much... so I'm still losing but slowly 1-2 a week (as I know is recommended)

I have lost about 40% of my excess weight so I am at a lower size than I started, but not yet where I am going to end up. So, for now, I am purchasing sale items as they are temporary. I am still amazed at how GOOD they look, even for temporary fashions. It is yet another motivator to help me get to goal and another new wardrobe!

What Is This A Stall Or What? Help
samsmom replied to KinnymomX3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't be discouraged......stalls do happen. Put "stall" in the search engine and read other folks' stories about their stalls. Everyone's journey is different so never compare your weight loss to others! You may not be dropping pounds.....but you may be dropping inches -
My daughter has issues with my weight loss. She has weight battles of her own, and she has treated me badly ever since I started to lose weight. My reason for starting to live a healthy lifestyle was a near brush with death, You need only have a doctor tell you once that it's over to make some drastic changes. I just feel the band will help me reach my goal and help me to stay where I belong. Thank you for responding to my post.

Is this water retention?
Eureka-C replied to faithstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also bounce around a lot in my weight. Some factors I have noticed: TOM - I always gain about two days before, and hold onto it all week. Allergy pills make me retain Water Sodas, or too much salt make me retain water Constipation makes me stall Exercising - when I haven't been - makes me retain water - sore muscles often retain water as they need the nutrients to heal. And other times, it seems as if there is no rhyme or reason, maybe I have a gremlin in my scales. -
Submitted and playing the waiting game!
dreamgirl45 replied to JCsMamaBear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JCsMamaBear, you just expressed what I've been experiencing. I've finished all evaluations and playing the waiting game. It took 3 weeks to get an approval letter from my insurance company. When I called my doctor's office, they said it was just a letter approving that I was a candidate for WLS. They said now I have to wait for a letter actually approving of the procedure. It's sort of frustrating because it's causing me to rearrange summer plans, kids schedule, etc., but my husband said that this isn't a process that we want to rush so let's just make sure that everything is done right. In the meantime, I see shows like the new season of Extreme Weight Loss and think-- okay, can I do that? Do I really need surgery? Then I'm reminded that that is TV and I don't have Chris Howell working with me. Good luck to you! -
My journey... from Banding in Mexico to Sleeve on 03/17/2015 in the USA
Elode replied to jamaicanchinadoll's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You're welcome! Looks like we started out at the same weight! -
Not to worry.....this was only one day and remember you did not gain the weight that got you to your highest point in one day. Forget about it and do not dwell but get yourself back on track and begin again. You are in control and we all need to splurge a little every now and then. Just do not make it a habit. Best of luck and Ill bet you will still lose on the scale in the next week.

big hugs to you sweetie, I can totally relate to you! I'm 1/2 native american indian and 1/2 german (go figure???) anyhow that makes me a really big boned, tall (6'0") person. . .my dad was 6'8 and weighed nearly 400 lbs and my german mom is 5'8 tall and about 200 lbs. . . at 12 years old i weighed 222 lbs (always the biggest girl anywhere) and at my heaviest i weighed 350 lbs and after i had my surgery and lost 150 lbs i don't have that much loose skin. I actually look 10 - 15 years younger . . . no wrinkles at all (and i'm 50) my daughter's friends asked her if I was her sister????? my daughter is 21. . . what a compliment that was. . . the only really loose skin i have is my apron, ahhhhh but it's nothing that a little duck tape couldn't help out! . . . you'll be ok hon, don't worry about it now. . just get your exercise in and do what your told to do and you'll be ok. . . the plastic surgeon told me that what is to be expected is to loose all your weight first, then maintain for about 1 year and then think about plastics because the skin usually shrinks back up some and what doesn't is then taken off. . . . good luck! Your going to do just fine!
