    I just sLiMed...

I am sorry that you experienced that, it is gross and painful. I have slimed probably 10 times so far and it doesn't get any easier. I would just make sure that you are chewing, chewing, chewing, sitting ans eating, taking breaks in between bites, and when it is meat like that you should cut it up in eraser size pieces. Good luck to you and feel better.

    My First Nsv!!!

Even though I just had surgery on Monday, I've already had a non scale victory! When I logged today's weight into my fitness pal, it said because I had lost more than 10 pounds, they had to recalculate my goals. I know my calorie goal was over 1300 (which I thought was a bit much) but now it's down 1240. I'm totally psyched! I'm not logging my food right now because I'm just on full liquids. I'm nowhere close to the amount of calories I should be having, so I don't see the sense in it. I love this app!!
  3. As soon as you get full or think you are Stop!! I use my Iphone timer set for 15-20 mins to eat slow then I reset it for 10-15 mins after to give my head time to know it's full you are re wiring your brain on how to eat in your new way of life ask your Nut on how many cals and protein you need in a day it will help you will know if you eat to much the pain will hit you hard...Good Luck!!

    Dont know what to do!

Sounds like you need to spend some time looking on the inside for what's going on...some ideas: 1. Track your food (use MyFitnessPal or similar free program online) to see what you're consuming, if you're not already. You MUST eat enough calories or your body won't lose - funny way of thinking, I know. Print out reports of your habits (or bring them up on your phone) to take to your doctor/NUT to discuss what you're doing and what you could be doing differently. 2. Focus on high Protein, at this point. If it doesn't have a good protein number, it doesn't belong in your mouth. You are HEALING - you can't afford to eat stuff that may go down easily or be a former fave food if you're sacrificing nutrition. 3. Get off your ass. Yes, I know that's harsh - but why choose to be weak and make excuses? Be stronger than your excuses. GO FOR A WALK. If you have a smartphone, download the "Couch to 5k" app to help motivate you toward a goal. Set a goal yourself outside of that - even mini-goals (i.e. take 10 minute walks 3x/day) are important. Share your goals with your support network (family, friends, Facebook, etc.) and Celebrate your accomplishments with them. SO MUCH of this journey is in your head - you have GOT to start conquering THAT, in whatever way works best for you, before you can expect results. Sure, the sleeve is a fantastic tool that forces a behavior modification (i.e. smaller portion sizes), but you've got to make the right choices in the kitchen AND the gym (figuratively - many don't "work out" at the gym) if you want to see results. This surgery was NOT a magic wand. If you were led to believe that, that's highly unfortunate. Take charge of this journey - because it's YOUR journey. No one else can do this for you!
  5. I agree with whoever said that small goals are good. I try VERY hard NOT to think about how much I have to lose to get to my final goal weight. I think of everything in terms of 10 pound goals! I have had the band for about 9 months now and am a very slow loser compared to some folks on here. These little goals are so much easier and "faster". I put that in quotes because it isn't actually faster, but my self esteem seems to think that it is! Try it! It is a huge help.

    Insurance changes post-op

It is highly unlikely that an insurer will cover any services, tests or fees after the policy termination. You will have to be very careful to choose a new policy that picks up the costs---specifically for bariatric-related services, especially those tied to surgery done prior to the policy. (For example, a standard blood test may require 1-2 vials of blood, but a bariatric set can require 10 vials and many more tests. The costs of self-paying for test can be a couple thousand dollars, depending on where tests are done.) And make very sure you have it in writing from the insurance company! There is so much confusion in the insurance world right now. There's another post I just responded to where four calls have been made to the insurance company on an issue and they have gotten 4 different answers. One poster reported that her company sponsored insurance paid for WLS, but she just retired and the retiree version of the policy (part of her retirement package) specifically does NOT cover any costs related to an earlier bariatric surgery. Good luck and shop carefully!
  7. When I first got there I asked how much he was going to put in. He told me, "Just let me worry about that." I was kind of offended, and made a funny face. After he was finished, he told me what he put in. It was his call. He didn't want me making that decision. It wasn't a negotiated option. So then I was okay with it. I got 3 CCs in my 10 CC band. I was happy with that.

    Is it worth it?

Hi Tina, I'be been banded for about two weeks. I haven't had to deal with fills yet but I'm preparing. As far as 1000 dollars down payment, I had my surgery in Mexico and was required to wire the Doc 2000. which was less than 10% of total surgery cost. I thought it was fair. Its worth it. Really. Its worth it. j

    Sushi

Yesterday I got a tuna & avocado roll - it had tuna & avo draped on top and cucumber crab & tobiko in the middle - I ate the toppings & the middle--- just peeled the rice right off - mmmmmm it was heaven! Been waiting about 10 weeks for that!
  10. apologies for re-posting this, but I think I posted it in the wrong forum initially Hi everyone, first time poster here! I am scheduled for a gastric sleeve on 10/19. I am currently 184 lbs, 5'4, bmi 31. After I first met with the surgeon and scheduled the surgery I was very sure this was the right thing to do. I have battled my weight for almost 10 years (I'm 30) and have tried every diet and drug under the sun with no success. My only success has ever come from a combination of medically supervised protein-sparing diet combined with phentermine. But even that 30 lb loss came back on pretty quickly. Now I'm starting to question this choice. It just seems so completely elective -- I'm healthy and young, I even completed a triathlon this weekend! But the choice goes beyond vanity, I struggle with significant depression that I never dealt with prior to the weight gain, I feel constantly exhausted (possibly from sleep apnea) and just generally feel that I'm living my life in someone else's body under a cloud of failure. I'd love to hear from others who had the surgery at a low BMI - are you happy with your choice? I'd especially love to hear from anyone who went on to have healthy pregnancies afterwards, the concern about pregnancy at my current weight has led me to hold off on having kids! Any other thoughts would be much appreciated, I do think this is the right choice for me but I struggle with feeling selfish to put my loved ones through the stress of worrying about the outcome when I'm not facing an immediate health crisis. And God forbid something happened, I wouldn't blame them for hating me for putting them through that.

    Ricotta Bake

I’ll definitely have to try it soon. Thank you. HW 356 CW 318 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18
  12. You'll be fine...I was freaking out too all the way until I saw my surgeons smiling face. Then I was all geared up and ready to go. I was out for like 45 minutes and up in my room in 2hrs. Staring at my husband and family as they asked me a gazillion times if I was alright. Lol. Of course I was and you will be too. see ya on the post op side of this journey ! Mine was 10/10/13 if you're wondering. I'm about 12 days post op.
  13. Remember 10-12k will not be the total of your bill. We are told 10k here in NC but you entire hospital bill is more like 50k. With my insurance I winded up paying only 2 to 3k having already met the rest of my out of pocket earlier in the year. Also just because the bill the insurance 50k does not mean they get that amount as the Insurance has set rates they will pay.

    Liguid Protein

I get liquid protein whey shots from walmart. they are 1.88 each or box of 6 for 10 bucks. they are fruit punch flavor. They taste okay if mixed with little crystal light or I use it as water for my jello and it tastes decent. each 1 has 25g protein. So example I mix with box SF jello and makes 4, 1/2 cup servings for me
  15. Heya folks. I've been on Depo provera for six months. I neglected to get my last shot because of some of my concerns (side effects and wanting to conceive eventually). Last shot was due on 2/15/11, which I skipped so I can get off it. My question - I've been banded since March 2010, and my weight loss basically slowed and then stopped in the time I've been on Depo. I've still lost a lot of weight, but most all of it was in the months before I got on depo. Back history - I was on depo a few years ago, gained a little weight, but then, I was already fat. When I stopped it, my periods came back after about 3-4 monnts. I'm hoping this time around is the same because I want to start trying to conceive in about 2 years from now, and I know depo is long acting and I want to clear it from my body long before I start TTC. My age is also a concern (26 now, I was 19-20 during my first depo experience). Can anyone share their experiences with depo, both with how it relates to being banded/weight loss and in general (especially concerning periods/ovulation and TTC)? Thanks

    Low BMI Pre-op nerves

I'm not quite as light, but 250 at 5'10", I was 37 BMI a week before my surgery (10/6). I admit that I had a pizza before the first weigh-in to top the scales at 281 (BMI 40.2), but all of my co-morbities were marginal and I knew if I didn't qualify, I may never do it. As soon as I weighed in, I started very tough dieting (5:2, then 1500 calories/day cut out booze, coffee, and diet soda). I Lost 30 pounds in 6 weeks and my mother said "forget the surgery, you're fine" (thanks Mom). I admit thinking that I was half way to 225, which was a very comfortable weight for me. Anyway, I kept coming back to two things; first, I really believe it was now or never. Sure, I could lose another 25 pounds, but was there any doubt that I'd see 260/270 again? Second, if I projected where my diabetes, fatty liver, and arthritis were heading, I really believed it was about having a life after 80 versus being dead or in a nursing home. Fast forward, I'm home 3 days post surgery and I'm already feeling better than I did at 281. I'm on the blended diet and it's fine. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and know I'll be eating normal food in 6 weeks and sipping wine with my (small) Christmas dinner. No brainier - hang in there and keep your eyes on the bigger picture.
  17. I am so sorry about our son. I can't imagine the heartbreak. I wish you a smooth surgery and speedy recovery! I'm 17 days post op and the pain was mild to moderate. My main incision still is tender, but I went camping over Labor Day (only 10 days post op) and I did fine. Everyone handles pain differently, but I've had 3 c-sections and this surgery was a piece of cake compared to the sections. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Good post! And you make a good point, I wish my obesity was that simple! Because I used to eat healthy and eat some junk too, I was never a total horrible food eater, I was not a burger and fries, fried foods, ice cream, fattening Cereal, chips loads of Pasta, mac and cheese, and junk type of obese person. I just ate too much combined with lack of exercise, and I was a stress eater too, I love healthy food, spinach, collards, cabbage, salads, baked chicken etc, I am also a good cook...I write computer code and I will tell ya...I could go through a whole bag of chocolate kisses if I had a difficult problem to solve....so the reason I was fat was a bit more complex...LOL and genetics play a role for me too...I can just look at food and gain 10 pounds... I've always wondered how some skinny women could sit all day and never enter a gym and stay skinny!!
  19. I had the same thing and when I mentioned it to my doctor he said it was because of the hernia repair and will subside in a few days. Well, it took closer to the 10 days - but it did eventually go away. At times that pain was worse than the surgery pain! I used a heating pad and also heard from others that laying as flat as you can will cause the excess gas to disburse throughout your body helping to relieve the pain in your shoulder. Hope this helps! :wink2:

    Hair Loss

I'm ranting about my hair loss this morning. I was hoping to be one of the lucky ones it would not happen to, but no such luck. I had my sleeve surgery on 10/15/15. For the past 2 weeks I have been losing a lot of hair. The good news is I am no longer obese, just in the overweight range. I will deal with the hair loss, it will grow back. I never want the weight back.

  23. Hi.... I am having difficulty and I wanted to see if any of you are expereincing the same thing.....I am 11 days post-op so still have 19 more days of mushies food! I am bored!!! 25. I was banded on 10/4. Since I'm off work and have a lot of time I have been reading a lot on here. I have now read a few posts from people who were only able to loose 20 pounds or so. Do you think this is the individuals (I hate I say it) but fault?
