  1. Awesome!!!! I'm doing Liquids today since I have my final weigh in tomorrow at the surgeons office. If we gain weight they cancel the surgery. ????. Congrats on the loss and I am glad to hear that it is totally different from the band. Yay!

  3. I gained 7 pounds of muscle while losing a total of 113 pounds. I guess I was speaking more from my personal experiences. As a former amateur competitive power lifter I was used to eating 300g of protein a day or more on a 7000+ calorie diet. I couldn't possibly and never will be able to eat that much in a day now with 75% of my stomach missing.

Most of us go into a situation where we needed surgery by eating loads of carbs and not enough protein and nutritious foods.
  5. I am backed up! Have taken stool softener pills, mirlax, fiber, fiber gummy, laxative tea, prune juice, enemas, n suppositories and haven't had a good movement in about a month...not in pain, a little comes out but not a lot. need support buddy in ct

I'm in Manchester. Yes, I know a couple people that had Dr. Papasavas and I've heard really good things about him (about both of them actually). Do you go to the support meetings at Hartford Hospital? I've gone to a couple of them so far and thought they were pretty good. I think there's one next week (maybe Tuesday night). You've done really well over the last 13 months! 150 lbs is AWESOME!! I have heard that the weight comes off easier in the first year and then starts to slow down. What are you doing for exercise? I have been walking but just recently started biking. There's a group called Healthy Gears that rides some of the bike trails in CT. I went this past weekend for the first time and rode with them in Farmington and went 6 miles! I think I'm going to try to keep that up, I'm more likely to stick with it if it's a group thing.
  9. I'm in Florida so I can't walk with you but I have been doing 5ks and I love them. I walk slow/fast/ trott whatever...I just want to finish (and not be last - I do have some pride !). It has become my #1 exercise. I get fresh air, meet people and loose some weight along the way. My favorites are the Gate River Run and the Donna Breast Cancer events - both have well over 15,000 participants. I feel like a marathoner because I participate and when you finish you get a medal which I proudly hang in my office at work. Good luck and way to go !!!!!! Melinda in Florida

    Am I going to fail?

I have lost 22lbs since my surgery almost 6 weeks ago but haven't lost anything of significance since week 4. I went away for 12 days to Greece in week 3 and although I ate very little and walked for miles, I only lost 4lbs while we were away and nothing since then. I was quite depressed today about my weight and this operation. I think I am going to fail at it Reason being, I have realised that I can eat whatever I want, it just takes a lot longer to do it, this is shocking and sad to me. For instance, I can make a sandwich, eat a third, wait half an hour or a bit longer, then carry on eating, depressing. This seems to apply to any food except possibly meat. I realised that I could easily eat more than 1200 calories just by eating every hour rather than having a meal then feeling satisfied and not eating again for at least three hours. I am so mixed up and confused about this, and so sad. I am not eating out of hunger as I haven't actually felt the hunger yet, just a vague empty feeling now and again. I haven't lost any weight at all in a week, this is very telling for me. I have realised I no longer have that bad restriction. Its as though my stomach has suddenly got bigger overnight, I tested it with some rice and chilli and was able to eat 5 dessert spoons before I felt ill. I literally couldn't eat another bite at first when the restriction kicked in, now I can and its only slightly uncomfortable, nowhere near the pain threshold I had previously, this is worrying to me. On the one hand its great that I can eat a little more but on the other, its a scary, and very slippy slope. Today we had a bbq and I I was very surprised to find that I could eat 4 beautiful juicy prawns and a full sausage without the full feeling kicking in. When we last had a bbq a couple of weeks ago, I only ate half a sausage and a quarter of a burger. I have definitely healed a bit more in my stomach area which must be why I can eat more. I'm making a conscious effort to drink at least 2 litres/ 8 glasses of liquids a day and I have at least 60 grams of protein every day as well. I am not exercising much at the moment, just taking a daily walk. From reading lots of posts, hundreds of people on the internet have all lost at least 100lbs (7 stone) over a year to 18 months. Maybe I am judging it a bit too quick and my body is still adjusting to the weight loss but it is so depressing to me that I could fail. I do understand that I could be one of the slow losers, I do understand that I could be in a stall. I really need to get my act together, it can't be just me that it doesn't work for! P.s sorry for the pity party
  13. They want you to be at a stable weight before having surgery. That means losing about a pound per month for the last 6 months. It's never too soon to start planning your future.

    Work in Progress

From the album: Journey (Original Title!)

Sorry for the blurriness! About 4.5 months post-op. Weight around 218, so down 55 pounds since surgery. Was a size 24 pant and 1X-2X shirt, now a size 18 pant and L shirt.
  15. Hi, Has anybody out there had a lap band after having an RNY? I had the gastric bypass in 2000 and did very well (130 lbs. lost) for five years. Then, the pouch stretches over time, so my weight started to come back. This, unfortunately, is a common occurrence with gastric bypass. I am considering a lap band as you can adjust it as your stomach stretches. I have heard of people getting the lap band after the RNY (AL ROKER from Good Morning America did it) but would love to talk to someone who has done it. Please can you respond if you have done this. Thanks, Zena

    Trouble

Hi there, I was banded on 07/30/08. My starting weight was 267. I have lost 35lbs to date. However, I am having a very very very hard time finding things that I can eat. I don't think I'm too tight, but I'm starting to worry. Some days, I can get canned chicken, tuna and salmon down. (very small amount) Most days, I can't hold anything down. I need help! Should I go have some Fluid removed out of my band or wait it out. I can keep all liquids down, no problems. it's food that I'm having the trouble with. Can someone give me a suggestion on things to try to eat? Thanks! Dottie

    Sweet Spot?

It is a term used for that balance of restriction/not restricted that means you can eat most anything you want but are satisfied with WAY less (1/2 cup to 1 cup) and stay full for a good amount of time, like up to 6 hours. You lose weight without suffereing hunger pains, but aren't PB'ing and vomiting slime etc. That is the "sweet" spot. My doctor calls it the green zone.

My family and life are driving me crazy...

So another week is about over. Which puts me, I think 8 weeks out from my surgery date, or 2 months and currently my weightloss is 31 pounds. Which averages out to be almost 4 pounds per week. I know this is a good weightloss, despite the fact that I think I'm just depressed because I can't see it. But, I'm going in tomorrow for a fill. Unfortunately I'm not getting any restriction and I can't stay satisfied for very long...regardless of what I eat. I really hope this helps, it's been a long week. I joined the gym (curves) on monday with my neice Ashleigh. It figures that when found our farm dog a sweet 5 yr old lab in the front yard suffering from the shock of being hit by a car. So we didn't get to the gym tuesday, and we've been dealing with trying to get her healthy. She did survive the hit and extremely lucky might I add! She doesn't have any broken bones! But she did come out with a really bad laceration on her left back hock (ankle area) and her lungs collapsed and were badly bruised. She's very pitiful looking. She was hit tuesday evening and came home wednesday night for strict monitoring for the next 3 weeks. My poor big baby doesn't understand why we can't let her go work with us on the farm, and my indoor pups don't understand why she's inside all of a sudden....or at least they didn't at first. I think they got the hang of it when they heard her wimpering. :tt2: I just can't believe, I live in a small town, on a back road where everyone knows everyone, and everyone knows whose dog is who's and yet they hit her, left her and never even hit their brakes. I really want to find the person and make them feel the pain she has had to endure the last 48 hours.....:w00t: But alas, I don't think I'll get any justice for her. I'm just glad at this point that she's seemingly ok. So, yeah my nerves have been on edge this week, my sisters are driving me crazy, my dad wants me to take a job in NC and I don't want to leave home! The lady at curves asked Ashleigh and I if we had an stress in our lives...we looked at eachother and laughed....I know she didn't know but for us to imagine a life where we didn't have an intense amount of stress would be easy street. I mean, we've had doctors tell our family, namely my Dad, me and my sister Lisa that if we don't reduce our stress levels in our lives somehow, it WILL kill us. SOOOOO, I kinda want to move to Vegas and become a dealer in a casino.....yeah right...I mean I would but I can't/won't leave this farm. I love it too much...I just want to lose my weight and get a job and make ends meet, don't need much more than that, just survive..that's all. I guess just focus on the immediate and try not to think or worry about the future.
  21. I'm excited today because I attended my first information meeting about bariatric surgery at Kiaser. It was informative however I must say a lot of the information I knew because I been researching on this every time a question pops up in my mind. I go tomorrow to my body analysis appointment where they take a picture and weight you prior to beginning the 12 week options program. I can't believe this is all about to get in motion. As a requirement I have to loose 10% of body weight prior to surgery (29lbs) I actually think that will be the most weight I ever lost. Well just wanted to share my journey so far.

    the sleeve and reflux?

Thank you all for your input. 95% chance of it going away or getting better sounds really good.... but I guess its something I will have to discuss with a surgeon because even if my acid reflux is weight related, I still have to contend with the bile reflux caused by having my gallbladder removed. In the meantime I guess I should get acquainted with the RNY. :/
