    Are your losses regular?

TOM made a huge difference for me as well. I have always lost in fits and starts throughout the banding journey. The only time time I lost regularly was the first several weeks. My weight loss graph shows plateau, dip, plateau, dip and repeats repeatedly throughout banding. The only difference now that I am pretty much at goal is that the changes are a lot slower and the losses smaller. I always had a steady decline a week or sometimes more right after a new fill. Right now I have been holding steady for about of month . . . but I am half unfilled for being preggers and I went on a three week vacation in the middle east where I ate whatever I wanted. Even with all that, I don't seem to be gaining for which I am very grateful.

    Are your losses regular?

I never loose any weight 2 weeks before my TOM. I always loose my weight the 2 weeks after.

    Are your losses regular?

Yes, my weight does this as well! My weight is up and down ... up and down the same 3 lbs and then BAM, I'll drop 3-4 lbs over night and keep it off permanently. I had to get an unfill yesterday because I hadn't been able to eat correctly for the last 2 weeks. My body was stuck and going into starvation mode. I was able to eat a chicken salad last night and then I weighed this morning and I lost a few lbs... I think because my body finally got nourishment.

    Gym memberships and workout

I workout 3-4 times a week, but the exercise doesn’t move the scale. What I do feel it has done for me is build strength, stamina, flexibility and balance. While I can’t back this up with facts, it does feel like working out has supported me in keeping my metabolism from crashing into survival mode. But who knows. I do HIT 2x week, yoga 1x week and 4th workout is either urban hiking or another HIT or yoga class.

    Help! Stalled!

It is very common for people in weeks 3 and 4 to stall and not lose any weight. I think it is because you lost weight quickly after surgery and your body needs to "catch up" to all the significant changes and the trauma from the surgery. Don't worry about it, keep following your doctor's program for Protein, Water, and exercise and you will be back on the losing track in no time!
  7. I start my 3rd week tomorrow I haven't lost 1 lb And anything I eat nothing makes me sick my stomach is a little bloated today, can that be a sign of a leak? Why does nothing make me sick? I'm freezing, and still weak but why am I not losing???

    knee pain WORSE after surgery????

Hi Michelle, I had the same diagnosis as you. I think they called it (and I'm going to butcher the spelling here) chondromalasia. I think that word just means generalized knee pain. But the orthopedic surgeon sent me to physical therapy first. The physical therapist showed me how my knee cap was not tracking in the right groove any more. It VERY common in women because of the angle at which the thigh bone meets the knee. Anyway, she expalined that basically, there is the quadricept (one of the biggest, toughest, strongest muscles in the body) pulling on the outside edge of your kneecap. While the only thing counter balancing it, to keep the knee cap in line, is this teeny tiny skinny little muscle called the VMO pulling on the inner edge. I went to physical therapy three times per week for six or eight weeks and they (and I) worked on strengthening my VMO. At the end of the sessions, it was like magic. Pain GONE. And I mean COMPLETELY!!! See if you can look into some physical therapy before you opt for surgery. I don't know why the weight loss would make it worse, but it can't hurt to ask. Good luck. LizzyD

    Op on Nov 19th

Hiya Lynsay, I Get My Band Fitted On 15th Nov At Bromsgrove. I Am Constantly Thinking About Food (nothin New There Lol) But With A Bmi Of 47 Have Been Told That I Have To Lose A Stone Before The Op And Also The Week Before Go On A Milk & Yoghurt Diet. Its Going To Kill Me As I Will Be On A Shopping Break To New York 8-13 Nov With Only 1 Day To Recover From The Flight. Have You Not Been Advised To Lose Any Weight Or Go On Any Specail Diets? I Wasnt Very Pleased At The Though Of Having To Diet Before They Would Operate As Thats Why I Need The Band. Good Luck, Flatz

    High caloric intake

I used to weigh myself daily, but now I do it weekly. That way, I don’t feel like I’m stalling.
  11. Mystery of all mysteries... I just ran a report for the last week of my recorded data from my Link. Calculating my calorie deficits for the last week, I should have lost 3.53 pounds over the last 7 days, and you know, my measured loss was 3.6 pounds. I love it when my body does what I tell it to! And I particularly love it when my gadgets are accurate! (This has not been a paid presentation for the Bodymedia Fit Link... I promise!)
  12. I am 2 weeks out and every time I get on the scale the number is lower. Once or twice it's been the same, but never HIGHER! When has that ever happened in my life? Nearly never! What a wonderful Christmas miracle that has been made available to all of us so we can get started on a losing journey! I already barely remember the pain and discomfort and am now just looking forward to being cleared to work out. I never could have done this on my own and I'm just so grateful!!!!!!!!!!!

    The Prime Directive

Bekki, it sounds to me like you're doing absolutely fantastic! Remember - realistic, sustainable expectations. I started walking on a treadmill for 20 minutes at a time. Slowly worked my way up. Eventually I got bored with the treadmill so I started walking in the neighborhood. Eventually got bored with that and decided to walk in a park close to my home. The park turned out to be the ticket for me. I've slowly increased my walking from 20 minutes to about an hour and three miles - four to five times a week. Every time I've increased my exercise goal, I set it to something that I knew I could do. Every time. If I do more, great. But I believe that it is so important to set realistic goals that you are confident you can accomplish AND celebrate accomplishing them every time! It is so much more realistic, sustainable, and just plain fun when you choose to live your life celebrating your successes than it is to live your life always choosing "the nagging feeling that I should be doing more". Notice that I said "choose" because that's exactly what it is, a choice. I know exactly how you feel. I am a perfectionist by nature and I have to fight it every day. But with practice you can make the choice to feel good about yourself and to enjoy every delicious moment of all of the great things you are accomplishing. Make the choice! You're gonna love the new you!!

    Benefits of Fasting

We all have a different definition of fasting, like fasting for lent, but for me fasting is fasting from food, I would not say oh im fasting, but then be eating solid food. But I do fast ( water only) one day a week to help with healing purposes and it is helping
  16. For the last couple of days, I am starving within an hour of eating. I'm about 7 weeks post op. I am allowed a regular diet. I don't understand why I feel so ravenous. I tried upping my liquids, and that didn't help.
  17. I'm excited to get my second fill this afternoon. But, I'm feeling a little anxious about it as well. My weight loss has stalled a bit - i'm ready to begin the journey of losing this weight in earnest. But, I also like having my band that restricts the food intake without the terrible side affects - pbs, getting stuck, etc. Fortunately, I haven't experienced any of these things yet but I'm afraid that this second fill may actually take me to the next level where I'll really have to confront my food issues and slow down my eating. While I know the benefit will be weight loss, the fear of losing normalcy in my life is taking over a bit right now.

    recipe book?

My nutritionist recommended "Eating Well after Weight loss Surgery" by Patt Levine & Michele Bontempo-Saray. I really like it - recipes are tasty and show exactly what you should eat for each procedure (RNY, Sleeve etc) and for each week post-op.

  20. Hi everyone! I'm 22 and ready for this change. My mom is actually one week post op and so I'm getting to see what it might be like for me even though I know it's different for everyone. Even though it's nice to get to see what it is like post op, it's kind of frustrating because I feel like I've been through the whole process with her but she's the one getting the benefits right now and I have to "repeat" the process. We were trying to do it together but it was difficult because I lived out of town for school. I'm worried that insurance struggles will postpone my surgery even more because besides the excessive weight I don't have any other medical issues and I'm not quite heavy enough to qualify for coverage without another medical condition. Basically - I was wondering if you could give me advice for the first steps of this process. Clearly I've been waiting for awhile to get this done and do need to be patient but I'm just so ready to be on the other side! Any advice you can give me through any step would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
  21. Hello fellow bandsters.... Okay..So I got my surgery on Aug. 4th 2011. I'll admit that the first 3 weeks were Hell... On my 3rd week I thought I was going to die...but on the 4th week..had no hunger at all. So, I can say it has gotten better. The problem I have now is that..I was told there was no Fluid in my band. I did good with my diet, but I had problems still with portion control and chewing good. A few times I've swollowed my food and it hurt going down because it was too much. Lol...I try to remember what I was told while eating. I worried that I messed up the band a few times...But..another part of me said...well..you really don't have any restrictions until your first fill, because there's no fluid in your band. WELL...I went for my first fill yesterday and the doctor pulled out 4cc! I was ticked off because they told me there wasn't anything in there after surgery. Started thinking about what and how I ate and got scared. I could've done serious damage to myself. But..I never had any pain or vomiting this whole time. They put the 4cc back in and added 1cc more. Well, I put myself on liquids again..just in case my lap band is in trouble. So, even if you are told there is nothing in your band...follow your diet and comply..in case you get a surprise, as I did. Any advise would be great at this time. I'm still feeling alittle guilty and nervous.. Thanks!

    howdy everyone!!!

Hi Carrie, I'm not a veteran but will be banded in the next few weeks. Congrats on the great weight loss. Just curious to know if 170 is your ideal weight and how long you took to lose it.

    Started full liquids

I was the same way. After about a week post op one of the nurses said I should have already gone and told me to.take milk or magnesium. That def got things going. Ever since then I've been regular. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

    Protein

I'm sure there are others who know way more than me but here's some that I found to be good. Fish- Just about any kind although I think cod is up towards the top as far as protein, also calamari is a great source of protein but be careful as it can be chewy and don't get it fried. Cottage cheese- It's basic but gives you good protein Eggs- I usually have them scrambled or boiled Hamburger- Make sure you get the extra lean type Those are some of my big ones. Hope this helps you. For the first few weeks it will probably be hard to get enough protein without powders and supplements but once you get to mushies and regular food it gets much easier. Make sure you follow your doctors guidelines no matter what as some of these foods you wont be able to have for several weeks. Good luck!! Christy
  25. Dave, you are ROCKIN!!! And you are doing exactly the RIGHT thing....mini-goals. That's what kept me going....not the old "Heavens I have to lose 70, 80, 150 pounds....like climbing Mt. Everest" but "Hey, I have an event to attend in 6 weeks. Wonder if I can get down 5 pounds for it!" That way you have a reachable goal in sight....sometimes I would even make them "baby mini-goals" (super easy to attain) and then when I would pass the goal "long" before its date I'd feel SOOOOOOOO good! Right now I am trying to knock off another 3-4 pounds before Christmas. I KNOW I can do it, though things are slowing down because I am close to goal.:whoo::clap2:
