    Of course last night I got my period, a week early, thinking it was all the stress. Sorry if that's TMI just worried about it, im sure the nurses will have delt with it before but it's still a little weird for me.
  3. I don't know how many of you are in your third week, but I am concerned about my calories. My doctor has us do 3 meals and 3 snacks. Shooting for 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of water. I have no problem with the protein. I make a lot of keto soups and blend them down. I am concerned in the calories. I was hovering around 5-600 calories. Today if I eat everything, I wrote I should end up around 800. I couldn't believe it. I have not had any issues with food until yesterday. I am in my soft food stage and yesterday I had a few of Russel's sugar free chocolate. My TOM started yesterday, and I think I was just craving. That did not sit well at all. So, no more off that. Where are you all at in terms of calories?

  5. Hello All! I was just wondering if anyone has taken weight loss medication after having bariatric surgery?! I had VSG in March and lost about 50 lbs in four months which was super exciting. Though, I haven't lost any weight since mid-July. My 6month post-op doctor suggested that I start taking Saxenda because Wegovy is on back order tool January. I started at 250 and have been sitting at 200-202 for three months. I guess my question is, has anyone else taken weight loss medication after having surgery? I feel pretty disappointed! Yes, fifty pounds is something to be proud of, but I feel like I lost 70-80% of my stomach, and now I need to take medication. Wtf! I'm just frustrated because I'm following my plan so I'm not sure why I'm not losing any weight anymore.

    October 2022 surgery support

    October 10th for me. I'm on day 7 of my two-week liquid diet on Tuesday. I'm so excited . . . but also nervous.
  7. Just had my revision 4 weeks ago! My liquid diet was protien shakes, broths, low sugar yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, sugar free jello, and sugar free popsicles. Oh, and any sugar free drinks (non-carbonated) and tea. I had a sleeve 7 years ago and gained all my weight back as well. I decided to do gastric bypass because I knew I needed more permanent help if I wanted to truly get healthy. I was arrogant and not in the right frame of mind when I got my sleeve so I sabotaged myself. This time, I was 100% ready and its been soooo much better and the will power to want to do better seems almost natural now. Having said that, when I did my liquid diet before surgery, I dropped weight so fast! 12 lbs in 1 week and was down 21 lbs by the time my surgery rolled around (3.5 weeks). So, doing the liquid diet again definitely re-starts your sleeve but it will be up to you to keep up the diet after, which for me is the hard part. Good luck, whatever you decide to do!
  8. I've read before you can restart your sleeve by going back on a liquid diet for 5 days. I had a sleeve 7 years ago and just updated to a bypass 4 weeks ago an I can tell you when I had to do my liquid diet again, I dropped weight FAST. Like 12lbs in a week! Almost to the point where I questioned if I even wanted to have another surgery. In the end it was better for me to have it, but maybe that might help you.
  9. I kept calling my surgeons office last week for updates and they continued to give me the same excuse that my case is still "pending"... BUT after calling Blue Cross on Friday they explained that my surgeons office had to resubmit my case because they didn't add the codes for surgery the first time!!!! This made me so upset because no one at the office bothered to inform me of that. I reached back out to the office and the coordinator said she is requesting BCBS mark my case as urgent now. We're down to the wire (surgery is in 8 days!) And I could use all the well wishes and fingers crossed that I get approved on time 😔
  10. Hi. I know that we all had our different reasons for having WLS. I did it because I was fed up with yo-yo dieting. I was on-off Keto diet for over two years. I've lost some weight and gained it all back in the end. The longest I've stayed on diet was 5 months and that paid off really well (lost 25 kg). But then Covid-19 hit. I was about to go back to Keto diet in January 22 when my sister called to tell me she was going for the mini gastric bypass. That was the first time time I've heard of it. Fast forward three weeks and I'm on the plane flying to Egypt to have mine. My "breaking point" was finally going back to work in the office and having to remove the arm rests of my office chair because it somehow "shrunk" and was squeezing my thighs. How about you? What made you decide to have the surgery and what was the breaking point?

    Slowing down?

    There are things you can depend upon. Stalls happen & you can experience several of them. Our rate of weight loss slows as we progress (as our calorie intake slowly increases & gets closer to the number of calories our body needs to function & maintain our weight). Our weight loss is never a straight downward line on a graph. It zigs & zags, up & down. And everyone’s weight fluctuates & women fluctuate more thanks to our hormones. It can be fluid, constipation, what we are, how much we drank, or just your body. Not sure how much you want to lose & what your weight currently is but it’s likely you’re in a stall. But chat with your dietician. You may need to tweak your diet or activity.
  12. I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow. Would it be safe to just eat normal food?? I know every plan is different and it is against my plan but if others are ok I am willing to try cause I know I need to eat.
  13. Consider the possibility that you are a sugar/food addict and need to cut out things like sugar, flour, white potatoes, rice, and processed foods. I've been pretty successful at losing (despite frequent stalls) by following this. Due to complications my RNY>RNY revision was not successful so I have no volume restriction. I HAVE to record everything I eat. My clinic wants me to restrict myself to 800 kcal a day, but I struggle with cravings even though my body is getting sufficient sustenance. Cutting out the trigger foods (above), helps with the craving but I'm usually consuming around 1000-1200 kcal a day--and still slowly losing. Here are some books I recommend.
  14. This is definitely a difficult situation. First some background for you. I think there are generally three reasons we have the staged diet that we do: To protect our healing stomachs. Not only are the stomach tissues massively inflamed and need to heal, but they also don't yet work the way a normal stomach works. Eating things that are off plan can even cause a blockage. That could lead to yet another procedure. Now the fact that he tolerated these foods so well may mean he's probably healing well, but it does not alleviate the risk of blockage this early on. To ease us into eating restricted portion sizes. Even if we can eat bacon & eggs, doesn't mean we should. The entire point of surgery was to cause restriction, malabsorption, and hormonal changes to help us learn how to eat properly. If he deviates once, that's one thing, but if this becomes his new norm, he's going down a path that will lead to weight regain. I don't know about him, but I didn't go through all this to fail. To make sure we are maximizing protein utilization. Our protein forward diet was designed to allow us to keep as much muscle mass as we can while losing weight. Insufficient protein can cause our bodies to actually burn muscle instead of fat. This will cause a reduction in our metabolisms, which will make it that much harder to lose weight. Yes, what we ate had a good amount of protein in it, but it also had a fair amount of fat. While some fat is needed in our diet, excess fat may cause him to lose more slowly or fail to get enough protein. My advice here is that you should have an open and honest conversation with him. Simply express to him you're concerns. Also, let him know you will help in any way you can. Also, I agree with @The Greater Fool. "Telling on him" with his nutritionist would be the wrong approach. Hopefully he can have an open and honest conversation with them about the fact that the went off plan and seek their help for the issue. Afterall, there's a reason this happened and his team should be able to help. Ultimately, it's going to be up to him to decide if he's going to go back on plan or not. Just be there for him and be supportive, but don't nag. Nagging will just make it worse.

    Mine has me starting b12 first day post op (it's sublingual). Starting the multivitamin on 1 week post op. 2 week post op start fiber supplements and 1 of the calcium. 3 week post op increase to 2 calcium. 4 week post op increase to 3 calcium and add iron. So by week 4 I should be taking everything.
  18. When did everyone start their vitamins? I will be a week post-op tomorrow and haven't purchased my vitamins yet.
  19. Bacon isn't considered soft foods (as you know) and that his stomach isn't fully healed till 6 to 8 week later. As @Shoppgirl said it is about safety. One of the most serious complications of VSG and/or RNY is rupturing your suture line aka anastomosis and if you don't adhere to the post-op diet then you are risking serious complications. If he rips the suture line, like someone close to me did (and she didn't listen), his abdominal contents will spill into his peritoneal cavity and it can kill him.
  20. Hi all, my husband had gastric bypass September 14th. So 2 and a half weeks post-op. He is not following the eating guidelines. He did well with the 2 week post op liquid diet. But I woke up this morning to him making 2 pieces of bacon and 2 scrambled eggs. He's completely skipped the puree and soft food stage. We had the post op surgeon appointment and a nutritionist appointment where I feel like they gave him the green light to move to soft foods, but I think he's going way beyond what they intended for him to be eating. I'm at the point where I can't nag him into eating the way he's supposed to be and find myself getting angry that he isn't following 'the rules ' of eating. Not sure what to do, holding my tongue is driving me crazy and I don't want to see him fail. 😢. But I also know if I nag him he will just get mad and do what he wants anyway. I'm thinking of emailing the nutritionist, maybe she can do something.

    I actually use both because I like different features on them. I do think the baritastic app is easier to use and easy to track what I want to track, but I have had issues with it being way off on its information. Like I had it say a can of chicken in water was 56 grams of fat when it was like 2.5. It did get fixed about 2 weeks after I saw it but my dietitian said I was eating too much fat before surgery and I actually wasn't, it was the app being wrong and I hadn't caught it. So now I double check the stats and I also use the myfitness app as a backup to see how the 2 sites compare. So far in the 2 weeks, only 1 day was way off and that day the baritastic app said I ate 200 more calories then the fitness one. The thing I don't really like about the my fitness is that it kind of yells at me every day for not eating enough calories.

    pretty much, my weight loss slowed at the at the 6 month mark then at the 10 month mark I dropped 2 kg then it stopped. my lowest weight was 1 week off my 1 year mark but I have since put on 2 kg

    I visit my dietician every 2 months, and this visit I lost 14lbs. In this 2-month period I had a very annoying 26-day stall. My team are always overjoyed with my progress, so I am ok with it too. I am eating 800 - 1000 cals a day. Everybody loses weight at a different rate but if we keep to a calorie deficit, then eventually we will all end where we want to. See what this month brings regarding weight loss and if you are still seeing poor results then get back to your team and get them earning their keep

I had VSG on 1/18/2022 SW 281 LW 219 CW 224 I am feeling so defeated, I feel like by now I should have lost more… I eat right, workout 3-4 days a week, I work full time as an RN in a busy emergency department 3-4 nights a week so my job is pretty active as well… I’m just pretty lost on why I’m such a slow loser. I haven’t lost anything since May, actually gained 5 lbs. I have met with my doctor and they referred me to a nutritionist which said to track everything and told me food wise I’m doing what I need to be doing and really didn’t offer much more advice. I do have PCOS and that’s always been a struggle with my weight but I have seen so many have success with PCOS post op as well. Has anyone hit a wall like this and has been able to get over it without having additional surgeries like bypass? Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Slowing down?

    So this month's rate of loss has significantly slowed down and I'm not sure that's due to a stall or normal. For August my loss was around 12 lbs and this month it's just 4.4. I have just entered my 6th month since surgery. I'm now yo-yoing within 2 to 4 lbs overall. Is this normal? The amount of calories I take in have increased a slight bit from around 760 to appox. 800-810. Wouldn't I still be losing weight at this point?
