  1. We share many of the same NSVs. My most cherished NSV is that I have learned to forgive myself when I fall off the wagon and that all is not lost, but rather to jump back onto that wagon and hang on for dear life! I used to beat myself up and give up. No longer will I do that! The only thing that I have not learned and probably will never learn is to love my workouts! hate, hate exercise, but it is a mandatory thing in my life, so I just get it done! All in all not a bad year. I like the new and improving me! congrats yl2010...wishing you continued success!
  2. @Creekimp13 keeping records are great. you are ACES!!!! if you never blogged, it's never too late. start pre-op - post op any time after surgery. NOT keeping a record of my pre and post op surgery was a big regret for me. i wish i had kept a blog of all my good, bad, and normal experiences for myself. how my eating, drinking - stuff like that went. records of all my NSV's - (clothing shoes sizes, changes, riding in an airplane, reactions from OP seeing me for the first time since i lost weight) .many other things too - many many daily events - hard to remember, wish i had kept records. to you my friend - you & other people - you are all definitely "smart cookies" no calories/carbs/sugar included. glad things are moving along well. i know you will continue to do great. kathy congrats
  3. I took a box knife to my belts and used a screwdriver and hammer to put in new holes. I've had to do this twice and need to do it again. There's an NSV for ya!

    Am I Losing My Mind?

You have made a big decision that will change your life for the better and make you a much healthier person. Try to focus on the future and not the past. Think of the things you will be able to do with your son that you amy have not been able to do if not for the surgery and try to think about the new you. I went window shopping before my surgery and tried to imagine what it would be like to wear that size. I actually bought something in a size 8 before my surgery, and it gave me so much incentive cuz I wanted to wear it so bad! Now it is too big for me! Try doing that. You won't have time after the surgery to think about the past cuz you will be busy making sure you are eating right and planning right. Don't feel guilty about where you have been, but feel inspired about where you will be. Look at some of the before and after pics on here, and imagine what yours will look like! And read some of the nsv's and tell yourself that will be you soon! When is your surgery? Best of luck to you. Keep us posted.

    One Year

Yesterday I have the most annoying NSV. I went to the gym and was wearing my wedding band which was loose on my middle finger because it no longer stays on my ring finger. I realized a few hours later my ring was missing! I think it came off at the gym because I cannot find it anywhere else! I'll call them tomorrow morning. If I find it-I'll get it resized. If I don't I'll have to replace it!

    Nsv

When i started i was in a very tight 24 ... even had one pair of 26... I have not really changed sizes or tried to except for a couple pairs of scrubs even though my clothes have been getting looser. Today i tried on a pair of 20 jeans in my closet been there since i lost weight (only to gain it right back) 2 yrs ago. And they fit!!!! I did not have to even lay down to zip them. They are still a bit tight but they FIT!!!!!!!!!!! Also if anyone remembers i said i was going to do a pandora charm for each 20 lbs. I have decided to do every 10 lbs instead . Today i found the perfect bead.. Its a Turtle!!!! cant wait to add it to the braclet.
  8. I think I am going to have to choose which topics I read more carefully. I am a little frustrated so please forgive me when I say this, but seriously people! Almost every day there is another post that goes something like this: OMG! I have only lost 50 lbs in 45 days and now its stopped! Am I broken? Am I ever going to lose anymore weight? Why do people ask this question? They are losing more than a pound a day and their body needs time to adjust before continuing with weight loss. Don't get me wrong, I am not completely happy with my 28 lbs, but I am happy with many of my NSV's, including not having a ton of extra skin to contend with. I'm just saying, come on!, you have to know your body has practically performed a miracle for you and just needs a rest. I believe that EVERYONE here is smart enough to know this. Saying I'm frustrated because I am in a stall is one thing. After major surgery it is frustrating to have to wait. I just can't believe that people think that if they continue eating between 600-900 calories a day that they are never going to lose another pound even if it takes a while.

    Week 2 Post Op!

Two weeks! Again, it's mostly flown by. This week was interesting for a few reasons. Per my doctor's instructions I advanced my diet. This means that basically I got to try eating anything I wanted to. I was very surprised at his recommendation to do this, because before my surgery I was told this wouldn't happen until week three, and in the hundreds of lap band stories I've read it seems that more than half of the bandsters didn't get to eat whatever they wanted to until six weeks post op. But my doctor is a smart man! I did quite well with his recommendation, and I've learned a LOT this week about eating. I haven't tried steak yet. I probably won't for a week or so, just because I've had issues with other meat. No big issues really, but I definitely have to take my time with it and chew, chew, chew. I have had a few things "stick" as they were on their way down... nothing to the point of getting stuck for hours though, and while it was uncomfortable, there wasn't much pain involved. I called it a gentle reminder to slow my happy butt down, and it worked! I've found that there are a few things that don't go down like you would think they would. Yogurt is the prime example here. For whatever reason, I can only eat a teaspoon or two of it, and that's it.. I don't know if it's because I only eat it in the morning, and that's when my band feels the tightest, or if it's simply going to be a "trouble food" like my good friend Tricia warned me! I have to say that I feel pretty great about eating after this week. I'm able to at least try whatever I want.. and that's very happy news for me. I've been able to partake in some of my most favorite foods this week, and I'm getting the taste that I was worried about never enjoying again, and am only able to eat a very small portion of it, which is of course very different for me, but it feels great! I had issues with my scale this week. It wouldn't budge for five days straight! My scale shows pounds, and ounces. Even the ounces stayed the same for those five days. I was bummed out!! I verbally attacked the scale for at least three out of those five days, but it wouldn't budge. Finally, yesterday morning it gave up 2.3 pounds putting me at 19.7 pounds in two weeks. Very nice, I'll take it! I finally made it to the gym yesterday for the first time! I navigated my way around the circuit room and did the treadmill. My doctor told me as soon as the steri strips came off of my incisions I'd be okay to swim, and they're off now, and looking very good. So, I swam for only about 15 minutes.. which was hardly worth the time it took to change into my suit, but it did feel good to get in the water for a bit. I'm going to walk this afternoon, and go back to the gym tomorrow. I'm starting to think about doing a class at the gym as well.. I'm wondering how I'd hold up in Zumba! It looks and sounds so fun, but I KNOW those girls get a hell of a work out! I can see myself stumbling around in there, sweat pouring off of my body and looking like something the cat drug in by the time it's over... maybe I should re-think that... I think I'll be okay now if my scale doesn't budge much.. losing those first 17 pounds so quickly really spoiled me. It's really awesome to step on there and not see a GAIN if nothing else! I haven't weighed myself today, and maybe I won't. (who am I kidding?!) I do have one little NSV (non scale victory) to share.. I haven't noticed much difference in the way my clothes fit yet, even with almost 20 pounds down the tubes. But yesterday I did accidentally put one of my smaller t-shirts in my gym bag. When I unfolded it to put it on I thought "Oh damn it, I grabbed the wrong one" but I was pleasantly surprised when it fit very nicely, and didn't hug those fat rolls on my belly! Sweet! I'm hoping for a few more of those little victories in the next few weeks! Countdown til the beach is... 60 days!! Woooo Hoooo! And actually a few days before that before my plane leaves! Sixty days til I'm lounging on the white sugar sands of Gulf Shores.. a full week of girl time with some of the best women I know! Right now, in this chilly, rainy spring weather in Nebraska nothing sounds more inviting than that beach for so many reasons!! Okay, signing off to see what week three brings~ I'll be back in-between now and then if anything exciting happens! Thanks for stopping by! http://www.myotherbutt.blogspot.com

    Flying

I have to say that one of my most amazing NSVs was flying down to my nephew's wedding just over 2 months after surgery and not needing the extender AND being able to lower the tray table to its appropriate position. It was so hard not to share the excitement with the flight attendant and my seat mates! I feel your pain. One of my last flights was international to Israel from Atlanta. I was already sick, didn't fit the seat, and had broken flaps for me to lean my head on to sleep. It was a miserable flight. pam

    Oh happy day!

Today brings a NSV! My husband got me boots for Christmas last year (extra wide calf) and I couldn't zip them up over my ankles even ????. Thought I would try them on this morning and they zipped right up!! Now if it wasn't summer I would totally be sporting them everywhere ????
  14. So, i thought this is a NSV that i should share with everyone. Before surgery my insulin level was very high, it was 33.4 (normal insulin levels range from 4.8 and 27.8) today, (almost six months post op)... my insulin level came out to be 7.8!!!! I was so happy i cried... no meds needed and no more worrying about my health. I am as healthy as any normal person now. Oh and my doctor wants to keep checking my insulin cause he is afraid that it might go below normal level (go figures) lmao. Anyways, good luck everyone and thank you for reading my post.

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

Congratulations on your NSV! I just reached a point where I can buy clothes in stores with a plus size dept and it's exciting! I've been reduced to buying online and accepting whatever could fit for so long, that it's now so much fun to go to Lane Byrant or Nordstroms and walk in and get to choose things that look good on me or make me feel good! I also just made it to zulily sizes 22/24 so now I have a new favorite online store. such a big change from the 32/34 I was wearing in July!

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

Inner Surfer Girl and everyone else who had a similar NSV…congratulations! Being able to do those “normal” things that other people don’t even think about is just so wonderful. It makes life so much sweeter. And I bet you all look and feel fantastic in those smaller, more fashionable clothes! Dub, Congratulations to you, too. As much as I love being smaller, though, I have to say I’ve never learned to love shopping. Enjoy it, though! You deserve it!
