that's nonsense. I know a lot of people who just walk. Dieting is a much bigger factor in weight loss than exercise, although it's good to do both because exercise is really good for your health. There are actually a few people on forums who really haven't done much exercise at all (because of arthritis or super heavy weight or whatever), and they still lost a lot of weight. Food intake is really key. Exercise helps, but WAY less than what you put in your mouth.

2 Months Out- How Are You Feeling, What Has Been Your Weight Loss And What Are You Eating?
apebrown replied to megannadine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a little over 2 months out about 9 weeks and im a slow loser. Since surgery i have only lost 26 pounds. Total since my highest weight I am down 45 pounds. I am eating whatever I want now. I eat Sushi, california rolls usually and am only able to eat about 4 pieces. I also eat bread and Pasta and rice and all the other things they said not to. I just eat it when i have no choice or very little of it. I have never thrown up, ever. I am pretty sure I dont get enough Protein. I also forget to take my chewable Vitamin daily too. I have had one blood test so far and so far so good. I have not lost hair but I heard it takes about 4 months. I eat slower then i use to but prob not slow enough. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and have started running too. It feels great. I love my sleeve. I also just started drinking a tiny bit this past week, my drink of choice is a glass of Moscato wine, i have had no issues, and it does only take a little bit to feel it. I find that i have to wait at least 1 hour after i eat to drink some Water, any sooner then that i feel it and it hurts for a minute. Over all, i am loving my new life. I love that people can start to tell the difference. I like how it makes me feel. I love that my pants are too big and i love that i just got rid of 2 trash bags of clothes that i will never fit into again. Every 10 pounds that i lose, i say to myself, i will never be 250 again, i will never be 240 again, i will never be 230 again, and so on. I -
One year out, not losing enough weight?
Vinasu replied to meridianlosing's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Was your surgery in 2015 or 2016? If it was 2015, then I can see why he's concerned. However, if it was 2016, you're well within the normal range for expected weight loss. In any case, if you're losing, keep doing what you're doing. -
I just had my orientation for options through kaiser. This is the beginning of my weight loss journey.

everything hurts my tummy
WildGrits replied to AutumnPunkin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I don't know about your other problems but I can atest to the Gall Bladder. You won't believe how that lil bugger can make everything feel real crappy. The worst part is rapid weight loss makes it worse. For years I always thought I had a stomach bug. I was on a diet that i lost 55 pounds in three months and after that it never stopped hurting all over my abdomen. Once they took it out I was amazed how everything was the fault of my gall bladder. Good luck. -
Call you doctor. Could be the gall bladder, an ulcer or a number of other things. Time to talk to the big kahuna. At three months out anything that is preventing your from getting all of your doctor's recommended Protein and Water needs to be addressed. As music said, there are lots of treatment options but they all begin with your doctor. Congratulations on your weight loss so far!!

Your first week post op is not about weight loss, it's about healing. You just had major surgery, you're swollen and need to heal. Please do not worry about how much weight you've lost, that will come after you have healed. Best of luck to you.

Anyone take psych meds?
newmebithebypass replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I take currently 10 psych meds 4 during the day and about 8 at night some are repeats ok the only thing you have to worry about are things like extended release meds which if you work with your psych doc you can get switched to rapid release or a different med all together also enteric coated pills at first do not absorb as well so switch to something different then you can switch back several medications are in the same class and are just as effective because they have the same action mechanism in your brain for example if you take geodon you can switch to Latuda it is also a safer med should you get pregnant soon after surgery if you take lamotragine which is the generic for I think lamictal you can switch to trileptal things like klonipin have under the tongue doses for more effectiveness also seraquel can and should be swapped for trazadone the reason being seraquel has the latent weight gain possible night time eating and a chance to cause insulin resistance. If you need a sleeping agent try belsomra it works in a different area of the brain and you don’t sleep walk for migraines impulsive behavior and mood stabilizer topirimate or topamax is great it also helps with weight loss hope this helps btw my mil is a shrink so if you need advice pm me -
I did the 14 liquid protein shake diet. Around day 5 I started to become really slow and a bit crazy. But I stuck to it, no cheating at all. My surgery was on 11/11/14. I was 300lbs then, at 11 months out I had lost 147lbs. Follow the change and it will gift you in return with weight loss and a longer life. I still track all my food, water, and vitamins. I get an average of 1100 calories a day still because I eat right.

Thanks Sprinkles. There’s nothing wrong with therapy for those who need it. I don’t act on it my bad thoughts. Luckily, sugar and carbs make me hurl like the exorcist child.! Lol I am getting all my minimum nutrition and I’m not ever starving. I just HATE the foamies and want to keep my food consumption sensible and get the most out of this surgery. I eat veggies and take my vitamins like I’m supposed to. I’m just venting and frustrated with the big lull in weight loss. I appreciate you advice.

I’m starting month 7. After a steady 10lbs a month weight loss, it has slowed to a snail’s pace for the last 2 and now has just completely leveled. Some days I even put 1-4 lbs of weight ON. I want to be under 200lbs by my mid June check up. I’m walking and eating a low carb, lean protein, < 1000 cal a day diet and am getting really really frustrated. *Frustration = if I’m not going to lose weight, then I will just eat what I want! I thought I would keep losing weight for a year and it looks like I only get 6 months... Any advice or words of wisdom?

Mostly horror, mysteries, self help, finance, history, biographies.. I love kids. I spent a lot of time w/my cousins and godkids. Today is my 2nd baby shower 2 Saturdays straight. Our great-grandmothers, grandmothers, and mothers were on to something...they were using 'tools' for weight loss long before the era of 10,000 diets became popular. Too bad their 'tools' weren't as successful as the LB! GOT CANKLES? Newspaper clipping from 1924. I'll bet these were comfortable, and gee 'there's nothing to rub in or massage'. I wonder if blue feet were popular then? A DAY AT THE SPA SOUND GOOD? This photo from the 1960s shows French women sitting in "slim-down coveralls" while being served low-calorie meals. The attached text reads: "10 May 1961, Paris, France --- Weighting Game. Paris: Shedding pounds while getting new hairdos, Parisian girls relax in slim-down coveralls underneath the hair driers at a local beauty parlor. In addition to the coveralls, customers get low-calorie meals to help with their slenderizing. Idea was originated by Parisian hairdressers Roger Pasquier". NEED TO GET RID OF FAT AND CELLULITE? This just looks painful! The device was made by Battle Creek Equipment in Michigan, US. You sit front, back or side and the rollers 'break down' fat. LIKE YOUR MARTINI SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED? Now THIS looks like a fun 'banding' experience! I hope my support group meetings are this fun! WANT A 15" WAIST? Searching through WLS information I've run across several procedures I'd never heard of (VSG, DS). I'm sure you've heard that they are already doing single incision LB procedures (in through the belly button). Recently, I've heard of some new trials and have run in to people online who are participating in them; like TOGA. The procedure is incisionless and is done by going down the throat with a tool that opens like a book (that has staples sticking out of the pages), vacuums stomach tissue into the crease of the book and then closes, this is repeated several times to create several 'folds' that make a pouch near the entrance to the stomach. See article and video HERE. Just this week on the news there were two stories on WL trials. The first is taking place at the hospital I'm going to in Pittsburgh, Allegheny General. The first woman in the trial previously had RNY surgery and it didn't work for her. The new procedure that she had is deep brain stimulation. They use a similar procedure already approved for controlling Parkinson's disease, turrets, seizure disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder and Dystonia. The procedure is safer than the RNY surgery she already had. They insert electrode wires into the brain, which stimulates metabolism and decreases appetite. Small stimulators (similar to pacemakers) are placed under the skin and the doctor can continue to adjust it with a remote. She's now losing 2 pounds a week. You can watch the short news clip HERE. This week the Today Show had a piece on three new prescription weight loss drugs that are in the final phases of FDA approval. The FDA has tightened their requirements since Phen-fen was taken off the market, and these three drugs have been in prolonged human clinical trials. All three new drugs work on the brain to decrease appetite and increase metabolism, and all show good promise. They are combinations of drugs that are already on the market to treat other things; Wellbutrin (anti-depressant), Topomax (seizures), and part of the Phen-fen drug that is still on the market. If you want to view the Today Show piece click HERE. I'm certainly not waiting for these to come on the market, but I find these stories interesting. There's another good thing about the LB; it can be unfilled or removed if a miracle cure comes along. Keep dreaming!

After lots of hard, hard work, some worrying, some tears (mostly happy ones), lots and lots of happiness, lots of new discoveries about the new me, lots of wonderful changes, I can finally say I have (almost) reached my weight loss goal. Only 2 more pounds to go! Wow, what an amazing journey this has been. I am so happy to be able to do things that ordinary, thin folks do all the time and take for granted: walk around a store without sweating and breathing hard, walk up a small flight of stairs without wanting to pass out, take a walking tour of an historic town on vacation and not have to stop and rest and wipe sweat, shop and try on clothes without being flustered, sweaty, and agrivated, etc. My energy level is out the roof and I have been able to get back into doing my favorite things: DIY projects and furniture refurbishing. My health had gotten so bad because of the weight, that I just didn't feel like or have the energy to tackle DIY projects, which I absolutely adore doing. It feels so good to have the energy and drive that I had lost because of the weight. I don't ever want to be robbed of another moment, for the rest of my life, by weight and health issues. Before I lost the weight, I always hid my hurt and uncomfortableness about my weight with humor---even if I was dying inside and hurt by other people's rude and hurtful comments, I would laugh and be self depracating. One of the things I always joked about, when it was windy and stormy outside, is that I almost didn't make it into the building because I almost got blown away (when you weight 285 pounds, that is funny, cause it would take one heck of a storm to blow away a 285 pound woman) Now, I literally have that exact thing said to me: "You are going to dry up and blow away if you lose any more weight". WOW! How ironic, huh? But, this journey has never been about being skinny. It has been ALL about being healthy, and Praise God, I am healthy!!!!! I am alive, I am still here, and I am better than ever!!! I must go now--a storm is coming and I've got to find something heavy to hold on to, should the wind actually blow me away....... Heheheeeeeheeeee Signed, Skinny Minny

What Do Your Meals Look Like? Portion Size? Types Of Food?
Beautiful-B replied to mimi81082's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After I was banded, I did alot of protein shakes and seafood. I found that for me seafood is much easier to go down and the shakes are easy on the go. I have a blender bottle and I am using 1 scoop of Unjury no flavor powder and Pure Protien van shake. Together it's about 52g of protien. I have that first thing in the morning or I sip it throught the day. In any event, I get the protein in and I found that it has helped my weight loss and controls my hunger. Good Luck girlie and welcome to the banded community. -
Congrats on the 100 lb weight loss...that is major!!!

Hi all, So I was sleeved 1.5 weeks ago. I tend to be a pear shape and when I lose weight it goes from the top. I feel like I'm losing starting at the bottom half, with the belly now seemingly bigger over thigh area. Anyone experience this post sleeve? I'm not complaining about thigh reduction but just wondering if it's a figment of my imagination or not. Thanks Rita

Glad you're doing well. Your incisions look GREAT for so quickly after surgery, mine were still black and blue at this point. Good luck on your weight loss journey.
