Looking for people who are likely to get surgery in Spring 2017!
char3672 replied to boogie_badd8nt_she's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also scheduled for June, snd I have noticed that when I eat something "bad" or too much of something, I don't feel as guilty. I guess it's kind of like not taking care of your car because you know you are trading it in. I realized I was doing this, so I started making some small changes. I've been trying out Protein shakes and bars to see which one I'll use after surgery. I have been NOT eating something just because it's there. I switched to sugar free things and high protein yogurt. I am going to make bigger changes as I get closer. I don't want to get "too far gone" Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App -
Hi All! This Tuesday marks 6 weeks. I am down 20 lbs since GB surgery, and very happy about that. The slower I lose, the less saggy skin I'll have to deal with. I am really pushing my Protein ( in a dire attempt to prevent hairloss) which is contributing to a higher caloric intake. For me, I cannot tolerate Any fish. It constantly feels stuck, so I am avoiding it for awhile. Ground Turkey and dark meat chicken have been a life saver. I am on low residue (soft cooked food) and Tuesday I can start the long term general diet. Below is what I have been eating for 2 weeks with no problem. Turkey chili, beef chili, lunch meat, deli cheese, eggs/whites, refried Beans, whole beans, yogurt, decaf coffee with protein, decaf chai tea made with milk, avocado, quacomole. Homemade applesauce with skins. Chicken ( prefer dark) I will start adding more veggies this week. Steamed broccoli felt really dense, like it took up alot of space. Think I might try a spinach fruit protein smoothie. Also, zone perfect Protein Bars were fine too! I was worried because they have like 23 carbs, but no dumping at all. My Nut said as long as it's balanced with protein and none of this ingredients ending in 'tol' I should be fine. I add Fiber every other day and consume approx 100 ounces of Water in addition to decaf. I have No bathroom issues and sometimes go daily!! Score. I have not felt hunger. Of course my mind is hungry, I am and will probably will be in therapy (for life) to guide me so that the impact of food on my life is minimal. Happy Sunday to everyone. Hungry and craving foods Post surgery. Any help on this ?
AGreenEyedWolf replied to crivera's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel you. Almost 2 weeks out and I still crave food all the time, too. All I can tell you is to occupy your mind. Set yourself goals of how often to do your intake (I sip Clear liquids all day... but at 730, 1030, 130, 430, and 730 I add in a full liquid item like Protein shake, Soup, yogurt, etc) keeping it evenly spaced will help with how hungry you feel. Plus, take on a hobby or start a walking regimen or something... I make a point of getting 10,000 steps a day, minimum... so when I'm feeling hungry but it's not "time" for something specific, I walk till I get to the next milestone I need out of my 10,000 It's a struggle... but it is worth it and it will improve!! I am almost 2 years out and I still cannot stand Protein drinks. Hate them. The first year they did make me want to vomit, now they are just gross but I can stomach them. If it were not for the protein cake I never would have made my protein goals though. It looks like everyone so far that has posted are pretty new, so maybe they aren't familiar with the protein cakes either. It's really simple though. In a big coffee cup or a small bowl add one scoop of Protein Powder. I use Gold Standard whey, but you can use whatever whey you want. It needs to be whey though. Add just enough coffee creamer to turn it into a batter. Add one half teaspoon baking powder (not soda). I microwave mine for 25 seconds for a lava cake type consistency. Others will go for about 45 for a fluffy cake. If I am feeling really fancy, I use my add Peanut Butter to the batter and "ice" the cake with plain yogurt.

I love yogurt! Greek or regular. But I'm really lactose intolerant, nothing to do with surgery. I tried eating yogurt and the same week i started getting the WORST stomach cramps, gas and diarrhea. I realized it was from the extra dairy and since stopping haven't had an issue. Really sucks cause i love yogurt and the oikos 000 is my fave right now. But no luck. Anyone have any non dairy high Protein options. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

Logging water and food ?
suznf replied to jaynamy3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Amy- I was sleeved on the 24th and on full liquids. I am using the Bariastic app to record everything. I start the day with herbal tea. Breakfast is usually runny cream of wheat made with Fairlife nonfat milk. Take Vitamins. 9 am I take 2 tylenol and walk for 40 mins on a treadmill. (The binder they gave me helps too!) 10 am Protein shake. vanilla premier Protein Shake with scoop of Protein powder, PB2 powder, and 1/2 banana is my favorite! 12 pm broth and maybe sf Jello. Between 12 and 3 pm- Walking treadmill for 40 mins. 2 pm. 16 oz Water with Crystal Light and scoop of protein powder. Between 3 and 6 pm -Walking Treadmill 40 mins 6 pm Yogurt (triple zero) or runny mashed potatoes or strained Soup 8 pm sf jello, pudding or Popsicle. Take Calcium chewables. This will change when I go back to work, but for now, it provides a routine I can stick to! Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App -

Thanks for the insight everyone. At this stage, I'm focusing on Protein and Water, but I'm so sick of Protein shakes, yogurt, and cottage cheese I'd just as soon not "eat" at all. That's a problem I thought I'd never have! :-D

I wanted something more filling a few days post op also. Maybe you are ready to try yogurt or a few sips of protein shake?

Does appetite come back?
Lovemylifeagain replied to Didjit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 4 months out and the past week I have been starting to get hungry. I am not taking in enough fluids so I am pretty sure that has a lot to do with it. I am trying to do better. Like tonight I was hungry and put about 8 oz of meatloaf on my plate....thank heavens I listened to my stomach when it was full. I only ended up eating not quit half. I feel like I am depriving myself, but if I start craving sweets I will have vanilla Greek yogurt with PB2. It's really good and satisfies me. I have lost 77 lbs so far and feel wonderful. Just have to watch my food. And I started a food journal! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
18 Days Post Op
FindingCarrie replied to FindingCarrie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@"Diva T", when I was drinking just fluids, it felt like I didn't even have surgery done. I had hardly any restriction. When I got approved to eat cottage cheese, I felt restriction immediately. Some things, like yogurt and applesauce, go down pretty easily. Even mashed sweet potatoes go down pretty easy. However, well cooked spaghetti squash was a little difficult. I just started eggs and Beans today. I had no problems with the eggs at all, but then I had refried beans with a little sour cream, and those sat pretty heavy in my stomach. They sure were delicious though. And the best part...I could only eat about 2oz! Over time, we should be able to eat about 4oz at a meal. My tummy does feel swollen in general. For example, I can tell that my pants are getting looser to the point that I can probably go down one size, but the waist is still a little snug. I think this is just because my stomach is still swollen from the surgery. Any discomfort I have had from food is really temporary. Sometimes I feel like if I had eaten just one bite less, I would not have the discomfort. Fortunately, I have not vomited at all, and have tolerated each new food really well. @rny-donnalisa I would definitely touch base with the office where you had the surgery through .... I don't know what amount you should be eating but I have heard you work up to 1 cup of food ... but Soup and yogurt may not be considered "food" since they fell under the liquid phase ... but stretching my pouch out is something I definitely fear once I get to the point you are at ... I have also heard some people don't feel full this early on because of nerves being cut I wish you the best - Melissa

Yes, it is very funny how different they all are - I see people a week out eating small amounts of normal foo, but I am 10 days out - I have passed clear liquids and moved to full liquids (milk, yogurt, V-8 juice, grits, cream of wheat, oatmeal) and have 3 more days of this before I go to purees (baby food). Then I do that for 2 weeks before I get soft food (like soft scrambled eggs, tuna, etc) and I do that until March 14th. My surgery was January 25th and I go back to full food textures & options on March 15th.

My new favorite yogurt
AGreenEyedWolf replied to 50yearoldme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I must have the exact opposite taste buds as the rest of you lol I can't STAND greek yogurt of ANY kind or brand... it's so THICK and makes my throat feel, like, STICKY for some reason. Plus one tiny teaspoon and I feel full enough to gag. It's the texture... I just can't get past it :-( Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Almonds, hummus, Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with a few blueberries. The blueberries have carbs, so I don't eat very many of them. I found a bag of Tyson's frozen fully cooked grilled chicken strips... they're great as a meal or to just have an ounce or so as a high Protein snack. No carbs, low fat and high protein in the chicken strips. Dill pickles if you want something crunchy that is low calorie. And parmesan crisps (which I couldn't find at the store today). They are crunchy, high in protein, no carbs and if you just enjoy a few at a time, you won't get your calories too high.

Logging water and food ?
AGreenEyedWolf replied to jaynamy3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 11 pounds in the first few days after coming home... and then started gaining and losing the same 2 pounds over and over to the point I decided to only weigh once a week instead of daily. I am still on full liquids until Tuesday... in the meantime what I do is at 730, 1030, 130, 430 and 730 each day, I try to have something OTHER than Clear Liquids. For instance, a few spoons of yogurt, some Soup, a couple ounces of Protein shake, etc. The rest of the time I sip, sip sip! I do Water, crystal light, or sugar free popsicles to the tune of 40-60 ounces a day in between those times (remembering to give myself a break of no clear liquids 15 to 30 minutes before and after each thing that is not clear liquid, so I'm not filling up on water at "meal times"... cause that makes it harder to get my protein in). Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App And I do write it all down... my doctor gave me a daily log to use. :-) -

I'm not a yogurt fan but I bet I'll be willing to eat it since I have limited choice post-op. My nutritionist also says Oikos Triple Zero is really good. Can't wait to try it. Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: - 71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). My profile picture is not me. It's my "FitSpiration" body.

I was on liquids only for the first 3 weeks and even then could only tolerate 1-2 teaspoons of something like Greek yogurt or refried beans. I can't imaging trying to injest anything but liquid at 5 days. If it's uncomfortable for you, then don't do it. Just concentrate all your efforts on fluids and protein for now. If you are having trouble staying hydrated then talk to your surgeon.

Severely Missing Food
Crafty Li'l Devil replied to jro5360's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having a hard time with just liquids. I'm 2 weeks post op as well and all I want to do is chew something. I can have yogurt and pudding...Just not the same. I don't even want anything fatty I just want to chew. I miss salty as well. The broth is ok...but man this is hard. I get to have oatmeal on Wednesday. That might help. In the classic film, Murray’s character, a weatherman, wakes up to relive the same day, February 2, over and over again. Do you see any similarities between your weight loss surgery journey and the repetition of the circumstances of this weatherman? Going Around in Circles You can find yourself running around in circles at any stage of your weight loss surgery journey. Pre-op, you might be struggling with your decision with whether to get WLS and which kind you want. Post-op, you could be hitting a plateau every time you let those good habits slip. Or, you might be experiencing regain and loss of the same few pounds over your goal weight as you try to move into maintenance. Changing Season, Changing Habit This Groundhog Day may signal the end of winter or not. Either way, you know the end of winter is in sight, so you might as well take advantage of the new season to shake things up a bit. A small change or two may be all you need to get out of the rut. These are a few simple ideas that might do the trick. Add a regular treat to your diet. Looking forward to a guilt-free dessert such as a Protein Brownie at night, or a bag of Protein Chips with some Cheesy Dip while watching TV on the weekends, can be motivation enough to keep you away from the less virtuous treats. Recruit help to target your weakness. Have a sweet tooth after dinner? Get your spouse to listen to music or watch TV with you so you both leave the table and have something to do. Love the Mexican joint down the street from work? Ask a coworker to eat lunch with you so you aren’t tempted to sneak out for a burrito. Try a new activity. The feeling of using your muscles in different ways together with the rapid progress you are likely to make at first can increase your motivation compared to doing the same workout day in and day out. Hip-hop, kickboxing, and boot camp can be new and exciting, and never fear: any good instructor will show you how to keep the moves at your fitness level. Do something fun. Treat yourself well with a massage or pedicure, and you may find it easier to treat yourself well when it comes to eating right. Get a new perspective on WLS if you’re still waffling. You can set up a video chat with surgeons across the country to find out their recommendations for your situation. Let them know up front that you’re unlikely to become their patients, and you can be more confident that their advice will be in your best interest and not theirs. Often, a few tweaks can lead to big progress, especially if you are in it for the long run. Pinpoint a few changes you can make and commit to them, and see how well it pays off! I've been reading so many posts online including pamphlets I've been given on what to and what not to do post Gastric Bypass. Im three weeks out and I'm starting puréed stage. Now, I've been reading comments that you shouldn't have more than 2 oz of purée at a time. Im in shock! I've been comfortably eating a cup of Soup or Greek yogurt at a time! And I don't have to eat slowly. I eat at a moderate pace. Now I'm sooooo worried. Even if I didn't pop a stitch, could I have put a strain on one or two of my stitches and caused a weak spot? I'm a perfectionist and the thought of ruining my pouch and the good work the surgeon did is killing me. I can't stop thinking about it! Also, how much SHOULD I be eating at a meal? I'm at 2 weeks but I'm not allowed to have tuna until week 6. I just added blended Greek yogurt and sugar free pudding and on Wednesday I will be able to have oatmeal and fruit blended into a Protein shake and half a banana. A week later I can start to add my veggies and such. I've included some photos here of what my regiment looks like cause the idea of trying to eat tuna right now sounds terrible. I am 2 weeks out and doing pretty well, though I forget to take my Vitamins I'm trying to do better about that. I find I can take in a lot of liquid but trying to eat a yogurt or a snack pack pudding and I get nauseous. It is however easier to eat those things when I Water it down with Protein. On Wednesday I will be able to have fruit in protein smoothies and oatmeal. I'm really looking forward to having something not sweet that has some texture. Including my pre-op diet I went from 428 to 368 in 2 months. 60 pounds!! Here is a picture from September and a pic of me from a week ago! How's everybody else doing?
