    Gastric Sleeve to gastric bypass

I had my revision in Nov 2016.you do start the phases of diet.My diet pre op was only for 1 week.I have lost 52lbs.
  2. Had the sleeve 2011 and revision to bypass Nov.2016.Down 52 lbs.
  3. I have chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, RA, and osteoarthritis, plus a few other little things like a vitamin D deficiency and Hypersomnia. I'm 2 months post-op. Some days I feel great, some days I don't. My symptoms really revolve around the weather. (We had tornadoes yesterday so I felt that coming for a few days) anyway, the hardest is all the medication i was on. Trying to figure out what I can and cannot take anymore. I'm currently at my doctors office right now to talk about something other than NSAIDS. I'm tired but I do have more energy if that makes any sense at all. I don't mind getting up to do things but I am exhausted. I'm still not back up to my full doses I had pre-op and I miss it. But I had the surgery in hopes of getting a little better and eventually being able to back off some of these pills. I seem to be happier and I think it's just because it's getting easier to move this big old body around. Surgery regret

I'm assuming you live in the UK? I'm on the Tapatalk app so I can't see profile details. I'd go to your GP and explain the situation, it doesn't sound like an emergency, but it's worrying enough that I think it's worth you being checked for a stricture or other anomaly. I'm having a sleeve to bypass revision next week because my stomach twisted in the middle, making it hourglass shaped. I've lost a lot more weight than expected, I've had increasingly bad reflux, and also struggled to eat much and puked regularly. I had a barium swallow test and an endoscopy to figure out the issue. It's likely you'll only get one or the other on the NHS, but it's worth getting checked out. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

    Gas pains!!

I am 10 days out from my revision from sleeve surgery to RNY. I was doing wonderful until yesterday when I now have lower back, right sided pain with every breath I take. I was doing my incentive spirometry (breathing apparatus) and was up to 2000 (baseline) until yesterday. With this sharp pain I can only get to 750. I am passing lots of gas :), but that is not relieving this pain. I have transitioned a few days ago to full liquids. My surgeon is very conservative on advancing diet. Any thoughts? Good news is I am down 17 lbs. in 10 days.

  9. I was banded in 2013. My starting weight was 226 and my lowest was 149. I have had nothing but problems with my band since the beginning. Back and forth to the doctor, a lot of discomfort and pain and just a rough quality of life the past few years with eating. For 2 years, I was a consistent 155, but could not seem to lose any more weight and the number this last year has crept up to 170! I want to get a revision, but I'm afraid I'm not "obese enough" to have it. Any help on this topic would be so appreciated. I'm terrified to have nothing and regain all my weight so i continue living like this....please help.
  10. The wonderful thing about "too small" of breasts, is they will be very easy to fake under clothes. Women with mastectomies get prosthetics all the time. View this as just another hurdle.. a problem to solve. As for the self esteem issue when naked, I really think it's coming from the build-up of hope that the surgery would make things more attractive, and now you don't feel that goal was met. When I rearrange my house, things ALWAYS get messier and uglier during the process. I think you're still "in the process", so knowing that this current messiness is (or can be) temporary might help. A revision boob job might be needed down the road. Nothing to worry about right now, just keep it as a possibility in your mind. As for help, I'll mention again.. mastectomies are seriously harsh on women's self-esteems. Perhaps you can find some helpful advice in books or websites designed for that population.
  11. What all can you have on the liquid preop diet? I am doing band to revision and still waiting to hear from insurance. But is it clear liquids? Any liquids? Sent from my SM-G925V using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I had a sleeve 5 1/2 years ago for repairing something and then had a revision to RNY on June 12 this year because of so much acid. I had both for some other reasons not for weight loss. I don't remember when I started eating a plate of food after my sleeve. I was wondering how long it takes after RNY to eat a plate full or a full meal. I am on regular food now and can have 6 oz. per meal, but can't get it in.

    Band stopped working

Did you have the 35 to 40 BMI to have the revision? i want t have the band removal and sleeve surgery but they say my BMI is not high enough. What insurance did you have for revision? Thanks.
  14. Hi Lilian, I can't give you any feedback regarding the financial side of things as I'm not in the US, but as a revision from Band to Gastric Sleeve patient, I can tell you that it is just so completely different eating with the sleeve compared to the band. I had my revision just over two months ago and even though I measure out all my food and know I am eating the required amount for my sleeve - I feel like I can eat so much more than I did with my band because I don't get that stuck feeling and have to go and relieve it after eating. I realise everybody has a different experience as all our bodies are different, but if I had known more about the sleeve procedure I would have chosen it hands down over the band. I hope that your health fund helps you find a way to get the revision because it sounds like you are tired of that stuck feeling all the time as I was? I used to say to people that I could never get my band removed also - as I would just put the weight back on - but two months later I am almost back to my goal weight. My revision was due to band slippage and damage caused, not because it wasn't keeping the weight off.
  15. I just had my revision from sleeve to bypass 3 days ago. I also was in the same mindset as you as far as gaining weight. After 2 years of the sleeve i gained about 30-35pounds and also developed a hiatal hernia plus bad GERD and also my stomach pouch dilated very much. Feel relieved that the insurance actually covered this revision for me as they also covered my sleeve back 2 yrs ago. Bypass is the standard overall and the best option
  16. Expect the recovery time to be surprisingly long. I was very functional 2 days out of surgery, but it took 3-4 months to really get my strength back. (I had a virgin sleeve, so my recovery right out of surgery was quicker than someone with a revision... so you might not feel quite as "functional" for a week or so). You'll also be surprised, in a good way, that after the 8 week diet that "full" feels more natural and comfortable than with the band.

Band to sleeve success stories, please.

I'm considering revision banded 2008 lost 60 have regained 30. With the sleeve, do you feel full/satisfied with the small meals? Because with the band I'm always hungry,I just stop eating because of the pain/restrictions.
  18. I'm not sleeved yet (got banded in 2009, considering a revision to sleeve), but these are some awesome sources!! Thank you so much for sharing! I've just bookmarked them for the future. I might even try some of them now! They actually sound really yummy (and pretty darn simple)! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. FOREWORD...I am not a revision patient. The sleeve is my first and (hopefully) only weight loss surgical procedure. Three years ago I qualified for the sleeve through my insurance company with a BMI of 37 and one single comorbid condition (elevated cholesterol, a.k.a. dyslipidemia). Like you, I was in my mid-30s and sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. I'd telephone a local bariatric surgery practice in your area and schedule a consultation if I were you. The patient advocate or office coordinator at the bariatric surgery practice will call your insurance company to verify if the procedure will be covered in addition to any additional hoops required by the insurance policy such as supervised diet visits, psych eval, nutritionist appointments, sleep study, cardiac clearance, etc.
  20. Every insurance company is different so the only way to know if revision surgery is covered is for you to contact your insurance company directly. Unfortunately there is no set policy that we can provide confidence about. Good luck!
  21. I think your chances of getting a revision are not that bad (however, you never know with insurance companies). You might want to contact a WLS surgeon about what your options are. Depending on how much scar tissue you have or what your esophagus looks like, it might be better or safer to opt for a bypass.

    Considering Revision - some questions

Hi there! I too have been through this. I had mine taken out and will be getting the VSG! Yes they should cover the revision. I would think. There are different ways they could look at this but yes I believe they will:)
  23. Hi there! I've been reading quite a bit here and other places about revising from band to sleeve. Here's my backstory: I got the realize band in 2009 - self pay unfortunately, due to a stupid anti obesity clause with my insurance policy at the time. I was relatively successful - my starting weight was 335 and I got down exactly 100 pounds over the next 2 years. I experienced regain of 45 pounds after a car accident in late 2013 and another injury a few months later. I've worked hard since then and am about 5 pounds away from my original low weight (and plan on surpassing that). The thing is, the whole time I've had the band, I've been a chronic vomiter, I get stuck ALL THE TIME (especially when I eat things I'm SUPPOSED to eat) no matter what and I never really feel full or satisfied, just uncomfortable and stuck. I always blamed myself and thought it just must be normal. But the more I read now, the more I realize that life doesn't have to be like this! I've been asked if I'd ever consider getting it removed and even the thought starts to hurl me into a panic. "I could NEVER get it removed!! I'll gain all the weight back and more and get diabetes again and a fatty liver and increase my depression and anxiety... NEVER!!" Plus I spent $25,000 on this dang thing!! But I hadn't thought much about a revision until the past couple months. The insurance I have now covers WLS. One question I have though is do you think they'd cover a revision? Especially if the band was self pay? Also, my BMI is now under 40 (as of today it's 37.6)... my comorbidities have pretty much gone away, aside from slightly high cholesterol and I just found out I have 2 herniated discs (definitely related to obesity. I'm only 35, for crying out loud!) would they even ok it based on that stuff. I know no one here can say for sure. Just looking to see if any of you have had any experience with a similar situation. Thanks in advance! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Hi! Congratulations on your success! (i can't imagine what it feels like.) I had the lap-band 7 years ago and after initial success gained all the weight back. I'm considering a revision to gastric bypass and I just saw in this forum the procedure you had - the mini GP. Can you tell me what the difference is? Or why you decided to do the mini rather than the regular gastric bypass? I would really appreciate your insight! Thank you!
  25. I'm hoping to have a revision from my band to RNY this November. I'm so scared the insurance isn't going to approve it. When I went to meet with the surgeon he asked if I threw up a lot and I was honest that I usually throw up everyday so he removed the fluid.. I feel so hungry all the time and have gained 5 lbs. I never was successful with losing a lot of weight with my band. So I'm happy to see how successful you were.
