    Any March 2019 Sleevers?

oh that sounds amazing... my doc dictates 2 weeks of clear liquid. I think its a little restrictive but I'll yield given that this is my first experience with bariatric surgery and his one millionth lol
  2. Sorry I can't give you advice from someone who has done this. But I'm sure if you talk to your bariatric team and a nutritionist about your concerns they will help you come up with a game plan. I would think that if you develop a healthy lifestyle including an exercise routine that kind of excessive weight gain in pregnancy can be avoided. Don't go eating crap food again just because you're pregnant and "eating for two".
  3. Hi, when I first started my weigh-ins I was at 220 lbs. Seven months later 10 days before surgery, I was at 208. The day of surgery (2/19/19), I weighed 200 lbs. My first post appointment after lapband (about a week after surgery) I was 193. My first fill-in is on 3/25 and I currently weigh 187. For those who've had the lapband done, does my weight loss seem okay so far? Also, any tips you can give after receiving my first fill in? As of now, I've been feeling good. Yes, I did vomit about 3 times but that was for trying to speed up the eating process. I've learned my lesson and now am understanding the eating adjustment that's neccessary. Any tips are appreciated. By the way, I'm a teacher and have been nominated for a free cruise. I am so proud of mysef for thinking of my health and having bariatric surgery. This would be an amazing present after this journey. If you're able to copy and paste the link below and vore for me. Feel free to post snd share it on fb. https://nclgivingjoy.com/voteme/30373/632496049?lc=eng Thanks and wishing everyone continued success! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

  5. I originally had a lap band, but that ended badly, you can read my story here. When the dr did my lap band he folded my stomach as well. Here are some of my questions. 1. Have you went from stomach plication to another bariatric surgery? 2. Is it normal to not have the starving or I'm full feeling? 3. If you eat a little too much, do you feel miserable? 4. How much can you normally eat? Those are my questions for now. Thanks

    Weight Creep

Yes, I read about pouch resets all the time on the internet, though they're not on the bariatric sites, so I don't know if they're a real thing. They talk about going back to post-op eating, starting with liquids only for a week or two, then soft foods, then solid foods staying between 600-800 calories.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I could not stomach the protein shakes. I do add a protein scoop (30 grams of protein - non flavored ) into the Bariatric Pal hot chocolate. I can get in 45 grams of protein in an 8 oz. hot chocolate (which taste pretty decent)
  9. The following article was just posted in the San Diego Tribune. "With several patients in local hospitals struggling to recover, public health officials are warning San Diego doctors to be on the lookout for signs of a deadly infection linked to weight-loss surgeries performed in Tijuana The county Health and Human Services Agency this week alerted the medical community that four patients have popped up in local hospitals with drug-resistant superbug infections of the same type that prompted the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to issue a travel advisory in early January. The CDC has continued to caution those who travel to Tijuana for surgery, as the number of cases have more than doubled. Most are connected to patients operated on at Grand View Hospital near the U.S.-Mexico border. To date, CDC officials said, a total of 25 cases of drug-resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa have been detected among U.S. citizens who crossed the border, usually for “gastric sleeve” surgery that significantly reduces the size of the stomach, accelerating the pace of weight loss. Pseudomonas is listed among the CDC’s top threats among microbes that can resist antibiotics. According to a 2013 report, the bug kills about 440 people per year in the United States and infects about 6,700. In January, CDC officials said that the subspecies detected among Tijuana weight-loss patients is particularly nasty due to its ability to destroy carbapenems, one of the most effective and broadly-acting classes of antibiotics available to modern medicine. Maroya Walters, a CDC epidemiologist with a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology, said Tuesday that while the world’s foremost public health agency saw its last Grand View case in late January, additional infections have continued to surface among patients who were operated on at other as-yet-unnamed Tijuana hospitals. The most recent case was detected on Feb. 12. The current rate of new cases, she said, has not reduced enough for the CDC to remove or change the travel advisory it issued in January. “Right now, we don’t have any assurance that the infection control issues have been addressed,” Walters said. In San Diego, Dr. Eric McDonald, medical director of the county public health department’s epidemiology and immunization services branch, said that his office became aware of two local cases, one in October and one in January, after his office issued a preliminary notice to doctors on Jan. 16. Neither of those cases, he said, is a San Diego County resident, with one residing elsewhere in California and another living out of state. He said two more patients, both who live in San Diego County but had surgeries in Tijuana not related to weight-loss at hospitals other than Grand View, were admitted to area hospitals with pseudomonas infections in late February. Three of the four cases, he added, remain hospitalized today and are being treated under special protocols designed to keep infectious diseases from spreading. “At this time, we have no evidence of secondary infections associated with these hospitalized cases,” McDonald said Monday. He said that having four cases pop up in San Diego hospitals made it important for his office to let all local doctors know that they need to be proactive, asking about surgery in Mexico and responding with extra precaution, including patient isolation, where appropriate. “We just wanted to reiterate that you shouldn’t wait until after you know that a person has this organism to begin taking contact precautions,” McDonald said. “If you know someone is coming in with an infection, and you know they’ve had surgery in Mexico, then you should take these precautions right away.” Eighteen of the 25 cases — 20 have been confirmed and five are suspected — occurred in patients who were operated on at Grand View Hospital, according to CDC epidemic intelligence officer Ian Kracalik. He said Mexican health officials told the agency they detected lapses in the procedures used to sterilize medical devices used in weight-loss surgeries. Kracalik said additional information on exactly which devices were improperly handled was not made available by the Mexican health agency that conducted the Grand View investigation. Initially, he added, Mexico’s La Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios or federal commission for the protection against sanitary risks, told the CDC that it had shut down the surgical areas of Grand View on Dec. 19. But there were strong indications that the surgical center near the U.S. border remained open, with several new infections appearing after patients underwent surgeries at Grand View after Dec. 19. “It is clear there was an ongoing risk during that period when the hospital’s surgical area was not supposed to be operational,” Kracalik said. Health authorities in Mexico said they were not available to discuss the developments Tuesday. Kracalik added that the CDC received word that Grand View shut down “sometime after Jan. 31,” which was the last date on which the CDC received a report of an infection case linked to the hospital. Most of the cases, the CDC representatives added, are associated with Dr. Mario Almanza, a surgeon whose website declares that he is the “leading bariatric weight-loss surgeon in the world.” Almanza received significant media attention in 2018 when he was named in a class-action lawsuit by former patients, including a lead plaintiff who said her procedure left her with complications including internal bleeding, according to coverage by Channel 10 News and others. Almanza, contacted through weightlossagents.com, the stateside travel agency whose phone number the doctor lists on his website, did not return a request for comment Tuesday. With Grand View apparently shut down, CDC officials said they noticed that Weight Loss Agents had begun referring weight-loss surgeries to another Tijuana hospital called the “Obesity Goodbye Center.” Reached through their promotional Facebook page Tuesday, the company said that while Almanza “performed procedures for a couple of days at our facility always following our sanitation protocols,” he is not affiliated with the hospital in any way. The center said its own sanitation practices “exceed international standards.” An attorney for Weight Loss Agents, Glenn Krinsky, said the company has done everything it can to cooperate with the CDC, including providing information on 700 patients it had referred to Grand View since August. The CDC’s Walters said the agency is following up with those patients to better gauge the spread of pseudomonas or other surgical infections."

    RNY and KIDNEY HYPOKALEMIA issues

@Mikeyy I'm NOT in the medical field, buttttt my back round - I am in "chronic kidney failure" stage IV highest " been on peritoneal dialysis past 8 months - done at home at night while i sleep (no prob, doesn't hurt and i sleep like normal) I had my sleeve 7+ years ago. My nephroligist approved the WLS, but at that time things weren't as serious for me. I called my nurse now, told your story. (doc wasn't available) She says "probably" you are at stage III bariatric surgery has made many surgical improvements - so "maybe" now, things have improved with WLS - you might qualify with ins. Obviously you must talk to you nephrologist" i am blessed" with diabetes (has improved), and HP is normal after surgery.☺️ Wish you luck with getting through jumping through the hoops feel free to write me w/any questions Please contact me with whats going on. What neprologist and WLS dr say. would love to know curious, but you know what they say about curiosity!!! 😉 good luck kathy

    Constipation

Constipation can be a problem after surgery. When your bowels are compacted, the only solution I have found is to insert a glycerin suppository up the rear end. It unpacks you in about an hour or two. For general constipation what works for me the best is to eat an apple before bedtime. Generally I then have a good bowel movement the next morning. But there is a secret here. You must eat the skin as well as the pulp. Apple sauce will not do the same thing. It is the combination. Since you are only 6 weeks post op, this may be too soon for you to try. Here is a list of things people use to combat constipation derived from former threads on this site: Smooth Move Herbal Tea Prune Juice (warmed) Prunes (4 in the morning and 4 at night) Magnesium citrate Insoluble fibers (Garden of Life Raw Fiber or Renew Life Triple Fiber). Haribo Sugar Free Gummy Bears (be careful with this one because it can cause explosive diarrhea) Aerobic Magnesium 07 Ground Flax Seeds (but don’t try to grind it yourself). Use 2 tablespoons per glass of water every night before going to bed. Bowel Clear (herbal blend) Also I might suggest that you take a probiotic to make sure that you have reestablished your colonies of good gut bacteria after surgery.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

So this Pilates studio I go to is right next door to a very popular breakfast place. In fact, this place is known to have an hour or more wait on any day of the week and I always have to hunt for a parking place if I’m having a morning class. Also, this week is spring break which is making it even busier than usual. Anyway, this morning just as I was opening the door to leave class, I almost walked smack into my bariatric surgeon and his family as I’m heading to my car. He apparently has the week off because he always does his surgeries on Wednesdays and was taking the fam out to breakfast. It was funny to see the look on his face when I announced that was my 3rd Pilates class of the week and to tell him to “enjoy breakfast, I’ll see you in May for my 3 month follow-up”. 🤣🤣🤣

  15. Cheatachu582

    Yup. I regret this.

Notmyname, I created an account to mention this: my sister had nausea like you describe for 3 years. Doctors were stumped, but her bariatric surgeon figured out it was her gallbladder. She never had any pain or classic symptoms, just her nausea. Her bariatric surgeon removed it when he did her sleeve and she hasn't felt the nausea since. If you still have your gallbladder, you might consider having it checked since losing a lot of weight often causes issues.

    No weight loss

Slow and steady might not be as “fun” as fast and dramatic, but I’m going to look at this as a a chance to truly start a new lifestyle for forever. One thing the bariatric psychiatrist was adamant about reinforcing over and over is that the good habits MUST develop during this honeymoon phase because no matter what we eat, we will lose. The problem with that is that it will eventually catch up. He told us in support group that the “slower” losers actually had a better long term success rate because even in the honeymoon phase, they had to watch everything that went in. Those that are going to eat fast food or follow a non-keto diet, or who eat refined sugars are in for trouble when this phase wears off. So it sucks to only be losing 0.2 pounds daily average for now, but I refuse to give up. Eventually this body that loves to betray me will get whipped into shape. Just since last week, the scale finally started moving a smidge faster. I lost 3 pounds in 8 days and I can tell a radical difference in a pair of work pants from last week to this. Progress. Not as rapid as I’d like it, but I’ll take the progress
  17. My experience is similar to bariatric barb. I'm 1 week out from surgery and I have had no issues with GERD. Its' a wonderful feeling!!!

    Regretting MY VSG!

Congratulations on your " Outer" looking so good, I was very bruised around each one at first. Now the hard part is healing your "innards", well can't give you back the stomach piece they thre away so I guess the best thing is to learn to live with your remaining banana of digestion and at first you won't feel much restriction with liquids apart from internal tenderness. Just take things slow and easy, and as you start to drop more weight you will come to appreciate the No More Ravenousness. Now as to your lung, most do reinflate in a short period of time. Let me share a somewhat similar in my own life. In December 2017 I met a very nice young female cardiologist in the accomplishing of my Bariatric prerequirements. L8ked her so much I even kept her when I changed Bariatric programs 3 months later. Went back this year for a yearly checkup, now perhaps I should mention she gave me very extensive Cardiac testing , both my parents died of Cardiac issues as well as my middle child, a son, died at 31 of an ascending Aortic Aneurysm that ruptured. Well this year Dr Amrita (isn't that a pretty name?) asked if I minded going to her Hospital Mount Carmel East for a MRI and of course I said " No Problem", well in due time I got a stack of paper work from the hospital telling me where, when and at what time my date with their MRI machine. Imagine my surprise when I read the reason I'm scheduled to have this-" to check status of thoracic aneurysm, to ascertain whether it has enlarged enough to require surgery" OMG that was what my baby died of, an aneurysmn don't you think it would have been nice to tell me sooner it might not have been a random happening but something GENETIC I passed down to HIM? Well it turns out at this point it seems to be stable but I must remain on B.P. meds to keep it that way. But when I see her again , in the words of Ricky on" I Love Lucy", You Got some 'Splaing to Do!" And I am about ready to declare a moratorium on testing. That day they also found I have a cyst on one of my 3 kidneys, yeah you heard right, 3 , a birthday gift from my parents who it turns out also had 3, Mama had a horseshoe double fused kidney on the right with normal on the left, Daddy had 2 on the right, I have 2 on the left, I am blessed that each is complete system , if i was over 70, the upper level for donations, there would be transplant teams chasing me with Butterfly Nets " Aw come on, you've got so many you ought to share!", upshot is I clear urine one and half times as fast so I teeter on the brink of dehydration. But it is what it is! Last week I happened to have a very stiff neck, on the question of whether I had somehow developed meningitis, a Cat Scan was preformed. Luckily it was just a flare-up of severe neck arthritis but they also discovered. I have a sizable thyroid nodule present. I swear I am going to call a halt to testing pretty soon, every time something new gets found. I feel like I am becoming a Treasure trove for the Medical community.😖

    Atelectasis after surgery?

Atelectasis, or a partial lung collapse is a known complication of general anesthesia. It could happen with ANY surgery and is not specific to bariatric surgery. That's one of the big reasons we have to do that incentive spirometer. Do your incentive spirometer as directed in your post-op instructions. Make sure you're communicating with your doctor with your symptoms.
