I lost my weight with minimal exercise. One of the reasons I had the surgery was so I could lose weight before a total hip replacement. My orthopedic surgeon wanted me to get below 200 lbs before he would consider doing the surgery. He said recovery would be so much easier. My exercise consisted of using the recumbent bike 2-3 days a week, or the elliptical. Those were the only things I was able to do without severe hip pain and some days I couldn't do those. I am happy to say I had my hip replacement last Monday...100 lbs lighter than when I saw my surgeon the first time. He was impressed with my wt loss and he was correct...recovery has to be easier now than it would have been then! This recovery has been harder than my gastric bypass surgery but I can't believe the progress I've made in this last week. I took a walk outside for 20 min this morning and half of it I carried my cane! I am so looking forward to getting back to the active lifestyle I had a few yrs ago before "life" and arthritis got in the way!

scared to get a fill but desperately need one
MrsBerggren replied to zeniada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just posted what I am about to say on another thread.. but I am experiencing exactly what you are wanting to avoid. I have had my band for two years and lost 25 pounds. I also got pregnant and had a baby in that time so I forgive myself a year of that time. So I have been trying to get back to where I was before getting pregnant and I had a fill in February that ending up being a nightmare for me and went to the ER and had most of my Fluid removed. I've been getting fills since then and up until Friday had been able to eat whatever, whenever. Friday I went from 6cc's in my band to 6.5cc's and now I cannot eat real food and have only been taking TINY sips of Water, broth, etc. I took a drink of milk yesterday morning and could not keep it down so that irritated my band. I was sipping the rest of the day and was lucky to keep any of it down. Today, the same thing and to be honest, I am SICK of it. I cannot find a happy medium and I am starting to resent this band. I am so stressed out about it and I am just tired of dealing with it anymore. Yes, I know this is a poor attitude, but I cannot help feeling this way. My life right now does not allow me time to drive an hour to my doc every week to figure this out and I am at a loss. This has been such a huge emotional struggle for me and I dont even know what I want anymore, other than I would love to eat something to get rid of this headache I have from hunger. I am so sad and frustrated right now I am just beside myself. -
I'm curious what kind of biotin to take. Are they big pills? Liquid? Chewables? I have a lot of hair and it's falling out in clumps. Thank god I have so much that you can't tell but I'm done cleaning up all the hair laying around.

 I never thought I'd be so happy to see a 1 lb loss on the scale! It finally moved. I've been stuck since before Easter. In fact, I actually gained some weight in February but I blame that on the gall bladder surgery. That includes being able to eat again as well as all the physical therapy due to the hip dislocation. I've been doing better with my water this week. I have done a little bit of snacking, but not as much as before. I'll fight this demon one day at a time. I'm just so excited.........my hope has been restored. I'm not a failure. I see my doctor this coming Friday for my 1st annual check up. I'm kind of hoping that he suggests a little fill. I'm even really hoping (a bit of a stretch) that he'll actually do it that day.

I'm getting talked out of Surgery on Obesity Help
Lynn Schmibo replied to Pats Fan in MA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with most of these posts, while I have not been banded yet, I believe the Band is the best for me. I'm not interested in losing weight fast but to get to my healthy point and stay there. That's where I think the Band will help me the most. My Dr keeps trying to talk me into getting the GBS but i have made up my mind. The rNy and the GBS makes you lose instantly which increases the chNces of gaining weight back again. The reason why is bc the muscle mass and skin do not have time to catch up with the rapid weight loss. There is alot more muscle mass lost as well. That I learned from reading 4 books on all the types of WLS. I've done my homework. The band offers restriction and maintenance. So while u have to make the choice that will best fit you, I wish u luck in your upcoming surgery! Personally, I chose the LB! -
Lost Morivation! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
tinksmom replied to mila86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only been banded for a little over 2 months so haven't yet experienced this problem but I am already trying to think out and change my attitude toward food and weight loss. I set my goal by thinking back at my past. I (hazily) remember feeling good, pretty, sexy...whatever...at a point on the scale, although I seldom looked at scales at this time. I then added a few pounds, because no matter what I'd like to believe, I'll never be 21 again. But,even then, maintaining this weight was dicey. Like other young women, I skipped meals, went on weekend starvation diets, etc. So that goal may, as an adult, be unrealistic. I say I want to lose 110 lbs but if I ended up losing "only" 90 of them, I think I'd be thrilled. And if I lost 80...probably content and relieved, although I'd have to keep trying. That's now. Reading others' stories and seeing disappointment and frustrations at not reaching a goal or at plateauing, I wonder if in a year I'll be less forgiving of myself. Do we get addicted to dieting and the loss of weight, just like we were addicted to food? -
successful in their weight loss journey?and why? Now for the why i ask. I schedualed another fill but don't honestly know if this is what i need. I haven't been following the rules.I know i can eat alot.I eat exactly what i want just like before and am not trying at all.I don't know why i do this.It seems i will be going along, doing all the right things for several weeks and then revert back to all the old behavior. It seems like an up and down pattern. I don't know if i should get a fill and recommit myself to losing weight or try and change my habit first then get a fill what do you think?

C, the fact is that it's easier to eat less when your hunger is dimmed by a properly adjusted band. So the question is: Are you saying you are able to eat a lot even when you're not really hungry? Or are you really hungry and so eating a lot? If you are not hungry yet are able to overeat, my thinking is that a fill will not really help. Even with tight restriction it's always possible to overeat and eat the wrong things. Grazing or soft foods are the culprits there. If that's what's going on then it may be that you are perfectly well restricted and need to focus more on changing your habits. I've gone through this process several times. If, on the other hand, you are hungry just an hour or so after eating a protein-rich meal, I'd say a fill will definitely help. Only you can really determine what steps you should take. As for whether I consider myself a success on my weight-loss journey, the answer is a resounding YES. My reasons for getting banded were more about arresting the upward trend in my weight and becoming more energetic than anything else. Both of those things have been achieved in spades. I was a success a year ago after only a 40-lb loss.

Headaches and low blood sugar
bluebutterfly replied to Pink nova's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@pinknova I didn’t experience headaches but did have low blood sugar causing dizziness, nausea and vomiting. I’d talk to your surgeon. Mine was great and helped me modify what I’m taking in and I no longer am having that problem and my sugar is staying around 80. My surgeon told me that some people are very sensitive to ketosis and suggested I drink a little juice or have something with natural sugar several times a day. I avoid any processed sugar still. But will do a all natural yogurt popsicle, Greek yogurt - I can only eat a few teaspoons at a time but it really seems to help, organic apple juice. Also, when going out I carry a few peppermints in my purse, the ones that dissolve quickly on your tongue. Took me what seemed like forever to figure out what was going on. Wishing you all the best in your journey.. also adding this small bit of natural sugar has not seemed to impact my weight loss I’m down 20 pounds since surgery and had surgery exactly 2 weeks ago today. -
Its been a journey since March 9th until now my weight loss has been slow and steady now I feel stronger, lighter, able to concentrate more on short goals. My workouts change every day so that helps me to stay focus. My current weight is 160 lbs from 245 lbs, now my size is a 10 from a 20. One thing that is my encouragement is that I bought a Fitbit to keep going and to motivate me every day you should see me talking it like it's a real person, lol. WTF?!?! I Stopped Losing Wt after 25 LBS post op???
WASaBubbleButt replied to dlo1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Are you estimating your caloric intake or tracking it on something such as: Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal When you track calories are you tracking absolutely everything that goes in your mouth including Water? Even spices, cinnamon is very high in carbs... as an example. Condiments, the works? How many hours of hard cardio weekly are you doing? -
I've started having a Protein coffee or chai latte every morning. I have a low carb Protein powder (IsoFlex vanilla - half a gram of carbs per scoop) and I take two scoops and mix it with half a cup of lowfat milk. Then I brew either a cup of coffee or a cup of chai tea and mix them together. Sometimes I pour the mixture over ice, sometimes I don't. With the milk and protein I use, this is about 282 calories, 8 grams of carbs, 1 gram of fat and 60 grams of protein. If I have calories to spare or if I just plain feel like it, I'll add a Tbs. of french vanilla coffee creamer for a bit more vanilla boost. If I wanted to have less calories I'd only use one scoop of protein, which would make it 171 calories, 8 grams of carbs, 1 gram of fat and 33 grams of protein. This helps boost my calories and the carbs are low enough that I still stay within my personal goals for the day. If I don't start my day with this Protein Drink, I have trouble hitting even 500 calories for the day. I still have no desire to eat, and I still only eat miniscule portions. I find myself getting "stopped up" very frequently with any type of meat unless it's (disgustingly) coated with gravy, so I find myself gravitating to "easy" sources of protein like cheese, cottage cheese, greek yogurt and protein powders. Good luck, La. You're doing great on the weight loss, by the way! ~Cheri

Ive been trying to do my research on the lap band to gastric sleeve operation and am really getting scared. I have read about the nausea, vomiting, pain, leakage, stents, hair loss (omg the hair loss), inability to eat enough Protein. But the good part to look forward to at the end of the rainbow to, is the weight loss, hair growth after almost a year, pain is gone, starting to eat and keeping it down..... I hope when my time comes I have an easy transition. Any advise?

Commitment. I am told everyday that I am scared of commitment which is why I have not gone further with WLS I keep going back and forth one day I want it really bad. the next day I don't want it because I don't want to give up the things that gives me comfort and happiness.... People ask me all the time why I am scared of commitment but then I look at them like what makes you think I am? (I mean hello I am married is that not a commitment?!) So since I am just blabbering I am afraid, I am not afraid of working hard or eating the things I need to or even working out. What I am afraid of is this: Still not being happy after the weight loss... Then What? Just a hole bunch of thinking sole searching and yes go ahead you all can call me Negative Nancy.

How do you stop the weight loss!
doggz109 replied to YOLANDA240's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
At 5' 4" why would you want to stop your weight loss? Your BMI calculates out to still being in the obese stage. -
Here's my story, I've lost 76 lbs this includes weightloss prior to my surgery. Now that I've reached 180 lbs I'm wearing a size 10 which I'm sure this is due to vanity sizing but I don't care I love telling friends I wear a size 10. Since surgery I have not stalled in my weightloss and I was ready to stop lossing weight when I was 185 lbs but I get up this morning and I'm 5lbs lighter. Does anyone know how I can stop lossing? So I can start maintaining my current weight. I welcome any advice anyone can offer. Thanks
-
when I was where you are, I'd lost 28 lbs (16 lbs the first month,12 lbs the second). I was a slow loser the whole time, but I ended up losing over 200 lbs. Everyone's rate of weight loss is different depending on so many factors (age, gender, starting BMI, metabolic rate, etc). Your commitment to your program is going to have a MUCH greater impact on your eventual success than your rate of weight loss will, though. So just stick to your program, follow the rules, and the weight will come off, either fast or slow.

What Are Some Ways To Stay Focused 7 Months Post Lap Band Surgeryp?
B-52 replied to Crystalapril11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am coming up on 1 year. It was more hard in the first few weeks /months than it is now. New habits are formed. New eating techniques, food choices, going to the gym, etc. Practice makes perfect! It becomes a normal day to day way of life. I am being totally honest when I say there are days I don't even think about the band. Weight loss has slowed, but I am within 10 lbs of my goal. As long as I am not gaining and still moving in the same direction. -
How Do I Know If Im Eating The Right Amount Or Too Much?
hopefloats replied to sheriah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think also that some days may be more active or stressful than others and your body might just need some extra calories. I find that is true for me and I still have steady weight loss. So far I haven't needed a fill. -
It's in the same isle as the Sweet n Low and Equal and I believe the sugar as well. I'm not sure if that's in the "baking" isle or the "coffee" isle but one of those two I believe. Let me know if you find it; I have to drive 60 miles to get to a Walmart, boohoo . EDIT: I have say, you've done fabulous on your weight loss, you must feel great!!! What an inspiration you are to those of us who are just beginning our WL journey!!!! Way to go!

I can't see the value of eatting 1/2 cup of soft food the rest of my life! Sure, I can get some Soups down and sometimes late at night some real food, but I am not interested in a "quick-fix". This is going to be something that I am going to live with for the rest of my life. I have lost 5 lbs the past 11 days and I just think that is too fast too. I want a 1-2 lb weight loss per week. Am I crazy? I read some people are begging for restriction, but good grief, I would like to eat real food just not so much of it! I am at 1.6cc. I was at 1.cc before my fill. I am thinking of asking him to remove .2cc to put me at 1.4cc. Any thoughts?

I have two ladies in my office who both had bypass. Started out about same stats and had surgery about same time . One lost most of her weight by 2 years at least 150 pounds. The other one lost 40 pounds and eats like a horse. Both of them were very interested in my lapband and now my sleeve. Haven't been back to work yet but I'm already 28 pounds lighter. Surgeon says people get used to the packed esophagus feeling, especially lapband patients, and keep eating and eating. Weight loss is weight loss be it slow or fast. So long as the number keeps going down and stays down what more could your doc ask for?
