  2. Hello All, my surgery is scheduled for 01/28 and im nervous about the pain being that my tolerance for pain is very low and pain medicine don’t really work well unless its a strong medicine or i take more than recommend(which i think is due to my size). I’ve had my gallbladder removed and that pain was almost unbearable so the thought that this surgery could possibly be more painful scares me. What pain meds were you sent home with? How long were you in pain? I dont want to be bed ridden for more than a week due to pain I want to be able to be almost back to normal within 2-3 weeks.

    Hair loss

Hi, I have lost a lot of hair since my surgery 7/31/19. It sheds throughout the day. My doctor says to increase my folic acid intake and continue taking my supplements and follow my eating plan and my hair will grow back. I'm also taking e biotin and collagen and I use Viviscal shampoo and conditioner and supplements. 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 Surgery wt: 266 CW 211 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app

    Only lost 20lbs in a 10 months

I agree - meet with your surgeon. People lose at all different rates, but 29 lbs in 10 months is very low. Are you logging what you eat? Are you following your plan religiously? I'd definitely start by meeting with my medical team.
  6. I had gastric sleeve surgery 10 months ago and I’ve only lost 29 lbs. I still have 100lbs to go. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    2 Weeks after Plastics Update

I stood up straight today! But then I sat down in front of the TV for an hour and I "re-hunched" myself. So I guess I need to move more often I also walked outside for 10.6 kms today! Mind you it took me 2+ hours over 3 separate trips, but I did it! So long as the weather is reasonable, I've made it a short term goal to do 10 km outdoor walks until I can start running again. Now that the front of me is looking pretty good due to the PS, by backside (read: my butt) is looking even worse by comparison. So I also started doing some squats today I hate them, but its really the only exercise I can do given my current recovery state. We'll see how long I can keep this up, LOL. I really, really, really, want to see how my incisions are doing, but the steri-stips are firmly staying in place and will not be changed (if at all) until Jan 8 at my next follow up with my surgeon. Swelling is still an issue, but I think I'm the only one that notices it. My pants continue to be tight at the waist. I am really looking forward to getting out of these joggers and hoodies I've been sporting...especially as its Mr & my anniversary next week and I wanna wear something nice to dinner at least!!
  8. I am a male who had a gastric-reduction/duodenal-switch surgery performed on March 12, 2004. At the time of surgery, I was 483 pounds and I am nearly 6'5" tall; yes, I am a big & tall man. By my 1-year anniversary, I had slimmed down to 275 pounds. I was 32-years-old at the time of surgery. Up to that point in my life, I had only been on three dates in my life; never a second-date. This was not for lack of trying... at least at first. I had been rejected so many times when trying to ask a girl out that I liked and it appeared she liked me. So many times, after asking a girl out that had been nice to me and appeared to like me, the act of asking them on a date killed the "relationship" and they would keep their distance after that. Instead of developing a personal life, I focused on work. My self-esteem at romance was less than zero. In addition to being overly fat, I also weighed a lot because I am both big-boned and very muscular. When I say "big-boned," it is not an excuse for being fat (like Eric Cartman of South Park), but literally, per physicians who have seen my X-rays, I have very large and thick bones. When I was in high-school, I was "big" into weight-lifting. I set records at my school in weight-lifting that still stand to this day, more than 30 years later. One such record was the "sitting leg-lift", where I straightened out my legs to lift 1,400 pounds. I would do many repetitions of isolated leg lifts of over 2,000 pounds. After high-school, I stopped weight-lifting as an exercise but still would make a point to move heavier objects than anyone else in practical life. I was a volunteer firefighter for 10 years; as I was in college and for the first several years of my professional life (as a nurse). It was during my life as a nurse, my lifestyle became more sedentary and I went from being "obese" to "super-morbid-obesity". I was an emergency department nurse at the time I had weight-loss surgery. Thankfully, I had no significant co-morbidities with my super-morbid-obesity. After surgery, I dropped weight extremely fast. The first week, I lost 28 pounds. The second week, I lost an additional 23 pounds. By one month, I was already below 400 pounds. By six months, I was down to around 300 pounds. By this time, I felt like a new person. I decided to start seeking a romantic life. I had many female friends that I worked with, but they all treated me like a brother and I didn’t want to ruin another “relationship” by trying to transition it into romance. I didn’t know what to do, so I went to eHarmony.com. I went on one date from the site, but that didn’t go anywhere. My next date from the site, I married, and we have been happily married for 14½ years so far. Over the years, I still deal with “letting go” and ballooning up to the highest weight of 315 pounds, before refocusing on what I am eating and losing weight. At one point, I was exercising like crazy and was on an extremely low-calorie, ketogenic diet. People actually told me that I was looking unhealthfully thin. I got down to 212 pounds. I did several body-composition testing procedures and all seemed to corroborate with a body fat percentage of around 8%. I had a lean-body mass of around 196 pounds. I was “proud” of this accomplishment, but I did not feel that well and I was torturing myself to accomplish it too. I finally decided to stop torturing myself; this was back in 2013. Since then, I’ve kept my weight about 270 pounds, plus or minus 15 pounds. I’m told, by people that don’t see me naked, that I look thin or “healthy”. What they are NOT seeing is all the excess skin and fat folds obscured by shorts and a T-shirt. Even with just swim trunks on, people don’t realize all the abdominal skin I have tucked below the waistline. Since I don’t wear “Speedo-style” swimsuits, they don’t see all the excess in my thighs either. At this particular moment, I weigh 267 pounds and have a body fat percentage of 26%. I have long wanted to get rid of all this excess skin. I have no way of knowing this for sure at this time, but it is my belief that the excess skin weighs around 50 pounds; I believe that much of this excess skin is counted as body fat in composition testing. As mentioned, I’ve been living with all this excess skin for quite some time. While I get chaffing between the thighs, which can get raw from time to time, I have not had sores or skin-breakdown/infection due to the excess skin. I was originally told that this was the only way health coverage would pay for the skin removal process. I have since heard that my health coverage company has successfully been sued for not covering skin-removal surgery, so their stance has changed. I’ve reached out to my primary care physician, but he told me that due to my “Body Mass Index,” I don’t qualify for surgery. I’m told that my BMI must be less than 30. This frustrates the heck out of me, as I’ve already pointed out, my lean body mass is 196 pounds. If I had ZERO body fat, my BMI would be 23, which is the middle of “healthy” when obviously 0% body fat is NOT healthy! I’ve pointed this out to my PCP, showing that BMI is NOT a valid indicator of a healthy weight; it does not take body composition into account. He said he’d reach out to the departments that handle this to re-evaluate... hoping to hear back soon.

  15. Oh hell no! I'm 57 and just had a tummy tuck on December 11, 2019. I've had 4 c-sections, one incisional hernia after my third c-section, and lost 80 pounds. My stomach was a mess and a huge, hanging blob. I am absolutely loving my flat stomach. I've got a lot of living yet to do and when my children get married, I'm not going to have to shop for some frumpy mother of the bride dress to hide my hideous gut. Go for it!

  17. I had revision from sleeve to RNY on 12/17/19. I flew back home on the 23rd. I was either in the air or waiting in the airport for over 7 hours. I had no problems what so ever. I was exhausted by the time we actually got home. It was a long day. My biggest day of pain was the actual day of surgery. I had the surgery around 9AM and was up and walking later that afternoon. I was lucky in that I really had no gas pains and only took pain meds the first day. I was inpatient for 2 days and then discharged to a nearby hotel until we flew back home. I'm not a big fan of pain meds and I told my surgeon no need to write a prescription. I only took Tylenol as I needed it. I haven't taken anything since Christmas day. I'm not in any pain, but just feel uncomfortable in the tummy area. Good news is no more Reflux. I'm allowed pureed food now and everything has been great with the exception of sugar free Popsicle and refried beans. The fat free refried beans were the pits. They basically got stuck in my chest and hours after eating, I still feel uncomfortable. The doctor said that I would experience things like that and when I do I need to back away from that food and attempt to try it at a later date. Good luck on your procedure. I'm sure you are going to do well!

    New Year - New Amy

It was an exciting 2019. After 20 years of considering WLS, I finally had my appointment with a surgeon in May when I weighed the heaviest that I ever have weighed at 230 pounds. At my height of 5'1", this placed me at a BMI of 43.5. During my 6-month pre-op-required nutrition intervention, I got myself down to 205 pounds. A 25-pound weight loss is not bad! But, it is not something I haven't done before. After all, I have been on a diet off-and-on since the age of 13. I am really good at losing weight, but I am even better at gaining it all back plus some every time I have any significant success. I suspect I have lost close to 560 pounds in the past 33 years. With all the ups and down of my weight, my metabolism is surely a mess. My gastric bypass surgery was December 11th. I am so thankful that it went smoothly and complication-free. Yes, I had significant gas-related abdominal pain and, yes, I was sore and uncomfortable at my surgical sites for about 2 weeks, but it was nothing I couldn't handle. Since my surgery three weeks ago, I have lost 16 pounds. Of course, this is mostly due to my liquid-only diet during the first 2 weeks pre-op. At 189 pounds, I now weigh close to the weight I was before my first son was conceived - a weight that I haven't weighed in 16 years!! As I get ready to watch the ball drop on 2020, I am so excited for all the weight that I will lose in the upcoming year. I am even more excited to re-set my metabolism so that I can maintain my weight loss. However, I am most excited to get healthy for perhaps the first time in my adult life.

    Help

Gastric sleeve Surgery was 12/16/19 have been doing great but tonight is no good. No bowel movement for 2 days (still on liquids) taking vitamins but stopped the dulco.... pills ( stool softener). Started today but I am trying to have a movement but no success and it’s starting to hurt should I go to Er or try to wait it out as much as I can take ?
  20. Three weeks post-op and I am feeling WONDERFUL!

I can now eat soft foods. I have not had any issues tolerating anything.

Found some awesome 4 ounce pyrex containers that I mix my 2 ounces in for meals and it's perfect. This week I tried my Italian Garden Meatballs which have 10 grams of protein per 2 ounce ball. PERFECT. I am down 19 pounds (that equals 76 bananas-lol)

I did try Tuna today but I don't think "Tiny Tummy" digs it too much. I did not get sick but she kinda grumbled a little  bit.

I've started going to the gym. I walk 30 minutes on the treadmill at about 2.8-3.0 speed. When I first started a week ago I had to stay at 2.5 because my incisions would feel weird if I did anything over that. By the way my incisions are healing perfectly.

I managed to cook my family a wonderful Christmas dinner. My hubby was my taste tester and co-pilot. I feel so blessed to have a supportive spouse! I did not taste one thing. Stayed the course with my pureed foods.

I haven't been on here much, just because I wanted to focus on my healing and my family during the holidays but I have SO MUCH TO BLOG ABOUT!

    It's gonna be a great 2020!

Blessings to you all, let's rock out the new decade in healthy bodies and relationships!

Recipe for the meatballs! Please check with your doctor to see when you are allowed on these!!! I add coconut amino acids to make them more juicy.

I've got to get me some of those "awesome 4 ounce pyrex containers". What a great idea! How did you make your tuna? I mixed some tuna with cottage cheese for lunch today, and it was yummy!

@Amy_new Well I did use some approved mayo and some pickle juice, onion powder and garlic powder since I can't have chunks per my nutritionist. It really was yummy but my tummy said....NOPE NOPE NOPE we don't like it. It's so funny how everyone is different. My nutritionist said most people can deal with tuna easy but not me. I can do chicken and ground turkey but I tried tuna twice and each time I felt my face was green. LOL

Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?

Yep! After my lapband failed in 2012 people told me how they really felt! I found out many who I thought were supportive were not at all. So when I decided to get sleeved (Dec 9, 2019) I only let a hand full of family know!
