I am only three week post-op and have luckily been ok. On Sunday, though, I felt really hungry. I had a hot cup of tea and the feeling subsided. Hope today was better than yesterday!

I have my two week follow up Tuesday and I will definitely mention it to my dr, but many people on a forum had the incision discomfort/pain for a few weeks and then it went away. Better to be safe than sorry tho!

Thinking about getting gastric sleeve
ribearty replied to sbailey1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, congratulations on making a decision to have weight loss surgery. When you meet with your doctor, they will examine you and ask you what surgery you are thinking about and then give you their opinion of what surgery they believe is the best surgery for you. I am a revision patient from a lap band to the sleeve. I had my band in July '07. At that time the band was the only surgery I qualified for at a BMI of 35. By lap band standards I was a success because I lost 50% of my excess weight loss. I never found the "sweet spot". I wound up having my band overfilled to get restriction. In the beginning my doctor did not have the equipment to do fluoroscopy to see if it was too tight. This resulted in me throwing up a lot due to tightness. I also started to eat more slider foods, which don't fill you up, because I knew I could tolerate them. I then began to have major heartburn and was on prescription medicines for them for over three years. I was in graduate school and working full time so didn't have time to give this the attention it needed. When I saw my lapband doctor, he told me that my band was in the proper position etc. Earlier this year, I asked him about a different surgery, and he referred me to my sleeve surgeon. My sleeve surgeon performed an EGD and found my band had prolapsed. Additional tests revealed it was causing problems with how my esophagus was functioning. Since I have had my sleeve. I have had no heartburn. I am 7 weeks out from having my band removed and the sleeve performed. I feel so much better now. I have not thrown up since my surgery and have not encountered any food which I am allowed that has not agreed with me. -
3 weeks out and still pain? Ok?
rholt35 replied to Raven21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I am 3 weeks out from my surgery I went to the doctor last week and he said I was healing just fine well this morning I was touching one of my stiches from the surgery and it felt kind of hard like a lump . I had my husband look at it he said every thing looks fine but it feels hard to me I am getting worried it is the scar on the right side . It does not look red or infected I do no know what is going on or am I worrying to much . -
I do the same as you. I weigh weekly on Wednesday because that was my surgery day. I am 7 months out and the value of having those documented in my notebook is I can see patterns. I had scale 'issues' several years ago where I was obsessing and even getting on multiple times in a day. It was way out od hand and the scale was dictating my feelings and lufe. My then fiance took it away and said no more scales. I am now 17 years married to that wonderful man and swore when I started this journey I wouldn't let the scake define me or the progress I make. I weigh faithfully on wednesday. Some weeks it goes dow sometimes ir stays the same but ultimately it is just one measurement I use for my success. Moral of the story is whatever you decide in terms of how often you weigh yourself, just make sure it is a healthy relationship with the scale. You own it not the other way around.

I have had several people that I don't see on a regular basis mention that it looks like I've lost some weight. One actually said "wow Jenn how much weight have you lost?" My daughter who sees me every single day said that she can see a difference in my also. She said "your belly looks smaller" lol. When I look in the mirror I still see the same face, the same belly and butt. I think it's more in my mind's eye and how I interpret it though. I was way off track for way too long and two weeks ago decided it was time to get my head right and go back to doing what I know how to do. I have lost 11 pounds and I am more committed than ever. Hearing that I actually look like I've lost weight was an even bigger motivator! Just give yourself time, do what your dr. tells you to do and you'll do amazing! Good luck on your journey!

You don't say how much you lost- but whatever it is is great. The first few weeks are for healing, not weight loss. Follow your docs. instructions as far as your intake. Measuring your food and journaling what you eat may help you in eating the correct amount. Excersise is also great, increases your metabolism so you burn more calories all day long. Good luck!

How Soon Do We Get 1St Fill?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to lupediva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most surgeons require you to wait 4-6 weeks after surgery so you're fully healed first. But like most things, all surgeons are different, so you'll have to ask yours to be sure. -
Live in NC and had Dr Tyner out of Cary. My preop diet was hard, 2 weeks, but I lost 15 lbs before the day of surgery. I'm now 4 days post op and in total I have lost 25 lbs. I spent 2 nights in the hospital because of some major reflux, but now I'm only having mild cramps when I sip on liquids. Seems those cramps are normal?? Warm chicken Soup broth my wife made is amazing! Never thought a simple homemade broth could be so satisfying. Was hard to get sleeved right before thanksgiving but I chose that day intentionally because I normally eat waaaaay too much turkey and all the fixings. Ready for this new stage of my life. Healthy and thinner. Glad I found this forum!! Kevin Started at 300 lbs Day of surgery at 285 lbs Nov. 30 at 274 lbs

I just had my sleeve surgery on the 22nd. I have to agree that it was a rough time to have surgery as I mourned the loss of a turkey feast Thanksgiving day... HOWEVER, it was one day and has now passed. I'm still on full liquids, which is getting old but I've only got 4 more days before the puréed part starts. My highest pre op weight was 288 and this morning, 263.6. I'm still feeling a wee bit weak but post op pain is minimal now. I have another week off before going back to work. My sweet husband has done the diet part right along side me so I wouldn't struggle doing it otherwise. As difficult as the beginning part has been, the journey so far has been amazing and we both look forward to a life changing year! I feel incredibly grateful to live in a time where medical advances provide the tools and opportunity for a longer, healthier life, rather than to succumb to the health problems of morbid obesity all too early in life. Lots to look forward to!!?

Bad EKG!! 3 days until Surgery.. MAYBE???
Nicole Cappy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Got a call from the dr's office asking me if I have ever had an EKG done before last week. I had one in 2009. They asked if I could get a copy and bring it to my appt with the surgeon today. Long story short... They said that the EKG showed that I had a mild heart attack. OMG!!! So as of right now I supposed to have my surgery on Thursday, but I'm scared the are going to call and say I have to wait. I asked my surgeon if this would delay the surgery? He said no, but it's up to the anesthesiologist. So here I am 12 days into a liquid diet and waiting for a phone call telling me I have to wait. Has anyone had this happen? Plus, I've never had a heart attack. -
Prayers Welcome! Papers submitted today :)

Thanks a lot Traci. I will give them a week, I will start calling them next Wednesday. -
I don't eat all day; I eat three meals a day. I'm eating 1/3 cup of food at each meal, so I pack a bag with a small container of food and crystal light in bottles in a little lunch cooler. I bought some little containers that are 4 oz size, which holds my lunch. I got to add steak to my repertoire this weekend, so today I'm having leftover steak with sautéed mushrooms.

So, since I started the pre-op program (3 months in my case), I have been trying to really limit myself on what I am eating, taking the nutritionist's advice on what to eat. Has anyone tried really limiting your caloric intake similar to what you would be limited to following surgery? I understand that you would really struggle with an all liquid diet or a diet of only 400 or so calories without the help of the surgery, but I am looking to see if anyone tried, successfully to approach it in this manner? I think it would be a great way to ease into the new diet following and not be such a shock to your system or daily routine disruption. I have been trying to stick with this philosophy and fortunately never had an eating disorder like binging or depressed eating. I am simply a case of being able to eat too much without feeling full, and eating all the wrong foods..... Initially in the beginning of this "experiment" the first week or two was tough becasue I had to fight all the cravings for sweets and carb heavy foods but now, 4 weeks or so from starting, it is MUCH easier. My cravings are gone, for the most part. The other day, I did have a craving for a PB and marshmallow fluff sandwich (sounds strange but tastes soooo good) so i made one....only to take a small bit and had it off to my wife who can afford to eat it! let me tell you how hard it was to have it in my hand and not eat it! But, I took a small bit of it and it completely satisified the craving and I no longer wanted it. At this point, I eat 1 Protein bar for Breakfast, a handfull of raw almonds for a mid morning snack, a cup of chili for lunch, another handful of almonds for an afternoon snack, and then a zero fat, high protein yogurt for dinner. I fill the rest of the time with about 80-100 oz of Water and that's it.... Anyway, let me know your experience with the calorie limited, high protein, low carb attempt prior to surgery if you have been able to follow through with it and if it helped following surgery.

I had gas pains earlier today in my left shoulder. I am so glad to see I am not the only one. I am 7 days post surgery, so I guess they will be here for a couple more weeks. Patty

Anyone Get A Bloody Nose??
Maddysgram replied to kittylove32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a slight bloody nose for over a week, always stuffed up in am. -
I had my surgery on 7 Mar 17. A week after surgery I was fine retuned to work and felt good. My 1st day back to work I went home early because I couldn't sit in chair to long so I starting taking half days. Anyway long story short I have not been sticking to those half days(staying all day) and everyday I've come home in so much pain it's unbearable. Now lately I've been having so much pain on left sides where big incision is.. all I can do now is lay down it hurts when I sit on toilet. Has anyone else had this problem before?

first fill, little restriction
Donnainva replied to emmers1126's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 5cc's put in on the 9th--about 4 weeks post op, also not really any restriction. I've got an appointment for March 9th and I'm hoping for something. I think it's pretty common Emily--we all just need to hang in there--sucks, but I guess it'll come with time -
My trainer told me to make sure you are breathing from your stomach not your chest. Run a bit, till your huffin. Put one hand on chest, one on tummy. Which ever is rising is what your running from. You want to learn to breath from your tummy. keep your mouth open while running you get more air. I breath in take 2 steps then exhale. You are supposed to work your way up to 3 or 4 steps but I don't want to become a pro just not die while running. I am on Week 5 day 2 of C25K. I'm starting to enjoy it. Every time I finish a day doing it completely I treat myself to some new tunes so I have some good music to run to.

Please Help I Don't Know What I'm Doing Wrong!
Queen of Crop replied to Sonoradgrl63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aloha Brenda.....I am also 5'3" and was 223 lbs when I was sleeved on Oct 25. At 7 weeks out I had lost 22 lbs and was THRILLED. Think about that.....when was the last time you lost 22 lbs in less than 2 months? And even though you have stalled, it happens to a lot of us and it will start coming off again. Honest. You won't be gaining it back, I'll tell you that. And every day you will get a little stronger in the exercise department. I honestly didn't exercise for 4 months after the surgery because I was traveling through Europe! So I was walking, but not doing anything aerobic. Now, 7 months post op, I have lost 70 lbs, and I run / walk on the treadmill every day and I do my strength training exercises faithfully. I love exercising now because it's so much easier. So it will all come in good time. The advice the others have given you is great advice; we all have to learn what works for us. But since we are the same height and same starting weight almost, take a look at some of the photos on my blog (link below) and hopefully you will be inspired........I think I look like a completely different person. I'm sure I'm a lot older than you, but you'll get an idea. Good luck and keep us posted.....I have a feeling in a week or two you'll see some nice steady progress. BTW, I have been losing a lb a week for about the last 2 months and am SO happy with that because I don't have lose skin issues that you can have with fast weight loss. -
What are your daily regimines for weight loss?
Jachut replied to Foxxy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I run (outside) for about 40 minutes to an hour about five days a week(6 to 10kms). that's my basic routine. I switch it around a bit - sometimes I jsut go out and run and other times for a period of a few months I include more interval training type runs (REALLY hard). I was doing a bit more strength training too but to be honest, I've experimented and I feel running keeps PLENTY of muscle on my lower body and i ust throw in some core work and some pushups and dips 3 times a week or so *(15 minutes after a run). this gives me the sort of body I want - lean and toned. I've found strength training tends to bloat me out a bit and make me look "thicker" and definitely a few pounds heavier, so I've kind of gone back to just running. it was also starting make exercise time consuming and a bit of a chore, whereas I need no encouragement to go out and just run. its the old, whatever you will actually DO is the best exercise for you. I love running. -
