    Feeling down….

*Big hugs* that is so frustrating! You have worked hard and want to see more for the efforts. maybe changing up your routine may knock you out of the stall. maybe a new beverage that will help hydrate you so your body can process everything else better? maybe getting a little more sunlight with a short walk? sometimes the smallest change can make a big difference and get things moving again!

First Month Out, How did you do.

I only knew the weight at the beginning of the month (day of surgery) and the last day at the 1 month follow-up. I didn't (couldn't) weigh myself at home as I was too large for a home scale. So, while I have no doubt I went through stalls I didn't actually see (or feel) any of them. No angst. No frustration. Just month after month of weight loss. When I was finally able to weigh on a home scale I weighed several times a day, it was a hoot seeing the weight go (usually) up and down during the day. Once the novelty wore off I returned to only weighing at follow-ups, and when they ended, only at medical appointments (if they ask, which isn't usual) or at annual physicals. There are other ways to know how we are doing. Since my primary goal was getting healthier and being able to move around better those are my key measures. They also happened to be my surgeon's key measures, he never once asked about my weight. How clothes fit is another measure. Mental attitude is yet another. Good luck, Tek ETA: I did not include any actual weights because my starting weight was so high that my monthly numbers look wildly high. This and other differences are why comparing numbers only creates more angst.
  3. I am at my one month mark, and pretty frustrated. I lost a good amount at first, then a major 2 week stall... and then only a little more. I feel like this whole first month did not go well. How did your first month go?

    Restriction Years Out From Surgery

I have about the same restriction as I did about 6 months post-op, 19 years ago. There are meals when I can only eat a bite or three, others when I am able to eat my (small) portion completely. I rarely push the actual limits of my pouch. Rarely being vacations with some gourmet meals and even then not every time, it has to be something extraordinary. I don't think my experience is the norm but I am happy with it, usually. Good luck, Tek

    August surgery buddies!

    September surgery buddies!!

@mrs.solis I’ve been alright. The burping is a real frustration and I find I’m still getting queasy/nauseated when I try to drink my protein drinks so that’s making it very hard to get all my protein in each day. Most days I’m only able to get about 30g. 😬 staying hydrated is also a challenge but that’s easier than the protein. I just bought some clear protein powder so hopefully that will help. Lack of nutrients is definitely making me tired. My 2 week post op visit with the surgeon will be this week and I’ll be curious to see what he says about the nausea. I’m taking Pepcid AC twice a day and it helps a little. The incision pain on the left side where the stomach was removed is still very painful/burning/stinging. It’s reminiscent of c-section pain so I know it will get better but it stops me in my tracks when I move wrong.

    October 2022 surgery support

I have my surgery date again. Oct 5th. I guess there was a mix up with insurance, but all paperwork is signed. I have my pre-assessment Thursday with anesthesia and will start my 1 week liquid diet next week. When I first started this new season of my life, I thought waiting for surgery was going to be awful, but it wasn't. The summer flew by, I was able to do alot of research and joined this support group. And best of all, I've lost 45lbs so far. Congrats to those who also have October dates. Thanks to everyone who post and shares their stories as it has me more prepared and a little less anxious for my upcoming day.

    10 day post opt

Hello. I didn't have a problem with fluids, hit and maintained my goal pretty quickly. But, I could NOT tolerate ANY of the chewable or liquid vitamins. I tried tons before surgery and tons after they are all horribly disgusting. It wasn't even like it was the vitamin itself my stomach wasn't handling it was the taste and texture. UHG! I discussed it with my team even before surgery and multiple times after surgery. They were not that "concerned" about it at the first couple of weeks. They just wanted me to focus on water and protein. At my 2 week follow up I discussed it again and my surgeon cleared me to swallow pills and capsules as long as I could handle them. LUCKILY I could and have been on capsules every since without any issues. Point: Discuss it with your team so they can work with you and provide insight and maybe get you an earlier clearance like they did me.
  9. Hello and welcome to the other side. My first day after surgery was horrible, I had unbearable gas pain. I also had basically 3 surgeries in 1 as my surgeon puts it. So he said I needed extra gas. I was kept 2 nights in the hospital, but the 3rd day it was a DRASTIC change for the better. I had some minor pain in my shoulder area from the gas but otherwise I felt almost back to normal. For a few weeks after surgery I would get tired very quickly but otherwise I was good to go. I am grateful that I had an easy recovery. Glad you are doing well!

    For the ladies

Thank god my tubes are done as well lol … Wednesday will mark week 3 of my period and it’s been horrible… I really hope it stops soon 😭 thanks for the response it’s given me some hope that it will stop 🤞🏻
  11. My insurance company was (surprisingly) good to work with. My pre-approval was initially set for the first week in July, even though I hadn’t yet set a date. My surgery date was August 3, and my doctor’s office was able to resolve the issue with just a phone call. My insurance company also was good about allowing me an extra inpatient day past the approved one day.
  12. I start my week long liquid diet tomorrow, I'm excited because that means only a week tell surgery, but of course I'm still nervous.... here we go Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August surgery buddies!

Great that you are experiencing so many benefits! I wonder about my BP meds too, I too have lost 30 pounds, and I'm still taking two BP meds. I don't know if or when that will change. Last week I forgot them twice, because now I have to take them in the morning due to nausea, and mornings tend to be hectic in my household. I did discontinue the blood sugar medication, but I would love to be able to say goodbye to at least one BP med. That would be so great.

    For the ladies

I had started mine the day before surgery. I was also on blood thinners. That cycle lasted 7 days. I had about a 10 day break and then it came back with a vengeance for two weeks… so roughly 3 out of 4 weeks I had a heavy period. Cramps were horrible with heavy clotting. I was told to watch my cycles and if it continued to check in with my gyn, but also told that it’s not out of the ordinary to have cycle disturbance early in. Also got the “very fertile” time warning but I have my tubes tied and my hubby has a vasectomy - so we are clear there.

    Feeling down….

Almost through my 4th week post op…. 3 weeks with no real weight movement. I know I’m a bit dehydrated - I’m assuming that’s why I have crushing fatigue. But not enough so that fluids are warranted apparently I’ve worked on increasing my calories and protein. It’s hit or miss but I am getting a decent amount, but my weight isn’t moving at all. When I say the fatigue is crushing - I mean any exertion of effort wipes me out. I see my pcp tomorrow - but I’m not sure he will have any suggestions the surgeon and nutritionist haven’t already offered. I am measuring and weighing every bite and I am only eating what I’m suppose to. I don’t feel well enough to exercise so I don’t imagine I will have much progress until that happens. I feel stuck/trapped right now. I know it will pass… I’m sure things will get better. It’s just really hard when I can’t even stand at the sink to wash dishes. My family is being very supportive and helping (kids and husband) but that almost makes me feel worse. They are doing things I should be. I just want to feel better. I’m trying to focus on the positives, I’ve lost weight, my body’s changing, my clothes are getting bigger…. I’m wearing things I couldn’t before. My Kees still hurt, but less. My liver is improving. My health is going in the right direction. Tuesday is 5 weeks. I don’t regret the surgery at all, I’m just disappointed in me and my lack of progress to this point. Sorry I just needed to vent my frustration. Thanks so much for listening.
  16. if you're swollen, that likely means you're retaining water. Might explain the weight issue. like others have said, it could also be the infamous "three-week stall" (that most of us experience) a little early - or you could still have some of the IV fluids in you that were given to you in the hospital. Some people leave the hospital up to 10 lbs heavier than when they went in!
  17. Stalls suck, and they are normal, and they will happen a lot. I've had 3 so far. Each time, I gain 2-3 pounds and the stall seems to last a week longer each time. I just got out of my 3rd and I immediately lost 5 pounds. Now the scale is creeping along, which I've found is normal for my body right out of a stall. It'll pick up again. Just make sure you're getting in your fluids and protein. Stick to the plan exactly, and look for the non scale victories. Mine are: I can fit in a booth now with room to spare between my stomach and the table, I dropped a full clothing size and ring size, and now the ones I'm in are starting to get big, my double chin is gone. When you aren't seeing the scale do what you want, look for other things to confirm for you the surgery is doing its job.

    September surgery buddies!!

I had pain/pressure under my diaphragm around that time too, but it showed up when I was either reclining or going to bed. It worried me but it went away and hasn't been back for a week, so assume it was the last of the gas in my chest.

    September surgery buddies!!

I had a lot of burping too the first week, it gets better but it really does make it hard to drink anything. I chewed a couple of gasx each day trying to get the burping to chill. It felt like even the smallest sip was enough to make me burp. Does your paperwork work explicitly say "water" or does it say "liquid"? Some plans keep water and protein (even in drinks) separate (dumb), but mine luckily considers everything I'm allowed, including jello and pudding, to be a liquid. If your plan says liquid, I would try protein waters, I use a clear protein powder drink mix every day. Also, I occasionally add electrolyte powder to the mix just in case. Don't beat yourself up too much about your intake, just keep trying for more each day, I'll be 3 weeks post on Tuesday and I'm just now meeting my protein goal but still about 20oz behind on my liquid goal.

    Reactive Hypoglycemia

Hi! I’m so glad to have found this discussion! I’ve been experiencing episodes of hypoglycemia that come on so quickly. I will admit that one time I drank a sugary drink and man, did I pay for it! (I had GB almost 3 weeks ago.) My blood sugar only drops into the mid 50s but I feel absolutely horrible. Sweating, shaking, feeling like I’m going to pass out… I see my doctor tomorrow as one of my follow up appointments so I’m going to ask about the other times where nothing I did seemed to instigate the sudden drop in blood sugar. Can anyone offer suggestions as to what you do when this happens? All I know to do is sip some orange juice. Thank you! 😊
  22. I saw him for my physical last week and he said when I get the o.k. from the neurosurgeon and now a hemotologist because I don't have a spleen and it causes my white count to be high that he will write my letter. The hemotologist said he didn't need to see me for that he will just send my surgeon for clearance. My neurosurgeon appt is on 9/29 so I hope I can get my surgery next month. My PCP tried to talk me out of it when I was there .I know what you mean about big breasts I passed a DD a long time ago. I may have to roll them up after surgery. loll I am glad your revision went well and you are on the road to recovery.
  23. They definitely are weird!! It’s so frustrating because I lost more weight on my 2 week liquid diet than I have since surgery… My surgeon says GB supposedly loses more weight, so I was expecting something by now. I am still swollen, so that may not help either. I just have this fear like omg did I do this for nothing 😳
  24. oh trust me i know. but the scale will drive you insane. at 3 months post op i lost maybe 5lb that was it. That was my 3rd month stall which is common. It will happen again and again.
  25. I'm no help with the elevated pulse, but I hope you find out what's up soon!! With the weight thing though, I'm feeling those feelings. I was sleeved Sept 6th, I lost 13lbs the first week, which was probably all water weight, because that first week I was barely getting anything down. I told myself I'd only weigh myself once a week, Tuesdays, but I broke yesterday morning and checked, and I gained a pound. I'm still on the liquid diet so that's wild, but I also figure my body is probably scrambling trying to hold on to what I can give it. I'm also only peeing like 3 times a day, which seems like so little considering how much liquid is going into me, and since that pee is light colored and not dehydrated, I'm taking it as an indication that my body is holding on to it. Bodies are weird.
