  1. My first post here 🙂 I had my bypass on January 29th and it was fine ever since, no discomfort in relation to eating or daily movement including mild exercise. But I'm experiencing new pain underneath two of my surgical scars by each side of my rib cage. I spoke to my doctor but he is not too concerned. It hurts a lot just to get out of bed. feels like the fat beneath the scars is being torn when I move. Anyone is experiencing similar pain? How do you deal with it? I hurt my ankle three days ago while exercising so right now have just been resting at home. This pain around my surgical scar is not making things easy. Is this normal? Please share your thoughts and tips. I'm from Hong Kong by the way, it's incredibly lonely to be an Asia bariatric patient in Hong Kong. I have zero bariatric buddy here, needs support.

    Revision-tufts

When I went last year they said they would convert it to the bypass. I told my primary at my physical but my bariatric surgeon is the only other doctor I have told. My primary told me to keep taking the prilosec. Thank you for wishing me luck. Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Revision-tufts

Usually, such a revision doesn't require the usual bariatric qualifications if it is to address a complication from an earlier (preferably approved or covered) procedure. So, if the reflux problem has been adequately documented, along with whatever efforts were tried to correct it, then it should be approved with minimal hassle. In such situations, one should try to get multiple opinions on the problem and proposed solution - these things tend to be more complicated than the original surgery, both in diagnosing the problem and solving it. Some surgeons who are particularly experienced with sleeve based procedures may be able to correct the problem with a re-shaping of the sleeve while others may not even try and just revise to a bypass without a second thought. Good luck in getting it resolved....
  4. I am in desperate need of a non-stim energy booster for pre-workout. I am persistently tired (I've been this way my whole life, nothing new).... and going to the gym is a waking nightmare (although I suck it up and do it). Looking for some supplements or non-stim weight loss/metabolism boosters + energy boosters to take pre-workout. I can't take any stimulants because I have bad anxiety and even a cup of tea makes me feel like I am having a panic attack, lol. I am really overwhelmed by all of the options on Amazon. I currently take the following vitamins/supplements: Thyronine (T2), chia seed extract, vitamin e, calcium, keratin, vitamin d, super b complex, iron, bariatric multi, and magnesium citrate. I do have some green tea extract on the way.

    Scared/second thoughts

I apologise to the original posters. I'm not trying to hijack your post. Healthy eating/nutrition is still flavorful. Not feeling deprived will help you long term. Many healthy recipes for pizza. I have had quest protein chips (barbeque or cheddar flavor) Some do parmesan chips. 6. I bought the Premier Protein shakes chocolate flavor as it is the only flavor of shakes I drink. I like them. My shopping list from my bariatric teams recommended few others. If I do not like them after my surgery, my children will drink them since they like protein shakes.
  7. Reading my post of list/menus/instructions and saw that stage 3 (bariatric soft/pureed)begins after one week? I read alot of post saying they were put on clear liquid stage for 2 weeks & some even longer!!!! Stage 1 bariatric surgery clear liquids (2-4 days) before surgery & first 2-4 trays after surgery. Stage 2 bariatric surgery full liquids (2-7) days after surgery. Stage 3 bariatric surgery soft/pureed ( begins 1 week after surgery). Sent from my SM-G925T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Constipation

I read magnesium citrate is good to take for Bariatric patients as it also doubles as a supplement and is naturally occurring.
  9. Ok. I have been unaccountable lol..... I have been doing some thinking, and misbehaving and thinking about the misbehaving. I stumbled onto a website that has helped me with the psychological (psycho 😨) stuff that rolls around in your head that you are never enough, that no matter what you do, unless you are a star at it, you are a failure....hmmm All about THE GOAL, whatever the genre - in this case the ultimate wl goal. The website is https://www.whywesuffer.com THEN Fluffy sends out that podcast link from the bariatric surgeon, and his psych stuff ties right into the other one. Major epiphanies in head stuff and nutrition (thanks @FluffyChix) Plus I have been biting the bullet to get back to 3 squares and edging into keto this week.

    I lied

Agreed!!! I had the sleeve done 3 mo. Ago. I had a quadruple coronary bypass 12/2017, and no matter what I did, ate healthy, I go to the gym 5 days a week 2 hrs a day, take my meds etc.., my cholesterol and tryglicerides were still going dangerously high, I became diabetic, my blood pressure was all over the place... in my case it was all genetic, and my body was over producing certain hormones that raised all of those levels. My only option was to have the sleeve done. When anyone asks me about weight loss I have zero problem telling them I had The surgery. I've had a lot of people say "why?? You didn't need to do that" well the alternative is having a heart attack and if I survive, additional heart surgery...so yeah I did NEED to do that! To anyone who thinks having bariatric surgery is the "easy way"... NO ITS NOT ! It's work, and it's hard work at that! Learning to eat all over again , figuring out what works for you and what will make you run to the bathroom to get sick etc... If someone asks..I tell them the truth, if they judge me for my decisions I don't care. My concern is my health, not a judgmental persons opinion who has no idea what they are talking about 😊 Just be happy with yourself, don't put too much stock in the opinions of narrow minded people. " those that matter won't mind...those that mind don't matter" PS... all of my blood levels were perfect within 8 weeks of surgery!

Has anyone had a band over their sleeve?

Sleeved in 2017. how much weight did you lose after surgery? You are currently 174 and stopped losing weight or have you gained weight? Have you seen your surgeon to rule out complications? Some things to try: You’re not alone, Many sleeves feel less restriction as we progress out from surgery. Your stomach is not back to full size. (Stretching is rare have it diagnosed by a surgeon and investigate revision options) Just because we can eat more does not mean we have to. Are you logging your food and staying within your weight loss calories and macros? Eat as much veggies with dense protein until the sensation of full. The bulk and fiber will help you feel more satiated. Carbs and sugar cause hunger. Once you eat them you crave them more. detox off them. Pouch reset or go back to bariatric basics Join a weight loss challenge.
  12. I forget sometimes people in other countries don't have access to Amazon like here in the U.S. It's so stinking convenient. I don't know if you have access to a good medical grade protein like Genpro but it's flavorless and can be mixed with water flavoring and you can make your own protein water. @The 56 Bypass does that and it works for her. It sounds like you are taking the same vitamins as me except the Nut has me taking a probiotic as well. I just do a once daily bariatric multi with iron. I have to wait a few hours after the multi before taking the calcium citrate with D3. I drink a zipfizz every other day and my B12 is off the charts. I'll insert some pics of the 2 things I mentioned.
  13. I am self pay and have not decided yet if I am going to do the sleeve or the bypass yet (occasional reflux now). Does anyone have any recommendations for surgeons or even who to avoid in Missouri? I am right in the middle of the state so willing to travel. My health insurance does not cover bariatric surgery and therefore will not cover any complications either. So really feeling stressed about finding a surgeon with a great track record. Also if anyone has any experience with self pay in Missouri if you could share that with me as well that would be great. Thank you.
  14. My bypass was about a month before your's. I use protein water instead of shakes because I really don't like the thickness of shakes. Two protein waters in a day gets me 80 grams and what ever I can eat in addition to that is a bonus. I can only eat a few bites of any kind of meat and I'm done. As time goes by, your stoma which is the hole from your pouch into your intestine will relax and you will be able to consume more. Sometimes people actually have to go in for an endoscopic procedure to make the stoma smaller to create more restriction because they've gained or can't lose weight. Monitor your blood pressure when you get dizzy spells. You can get a self tester or use one at a drug store. I had to quit my BP meds shortly after my surgery because of dizzy spells. Sometimes low blood pressure and or blood sugar will cause dizziness. You do need to take vitamins specific to bariatric surgery (especially bypass) because of the malabsorption aspect of the surgery. I can share my vitamin list with you if you didn't get one.

    5 years out....

here's the thing....you gotta address the disease of obesity....the noise in your head that pollutes your determination to be (& enjoy) good health. A 50 lb gain suggests you're "off program". It's a symptom of your disease of obesity. Make appointment for follow-up. Speak w nutritionist in bariatric program. Weekly weigh ins @ the surgeon's office doesn't require an appointment, & makes you accountable. Get to support group. There's no shame in the struggle. Anyone posting here has been & is, in the same boat.

    5 years out....

Are you still on lifetime care with your bariatric office? Maybe the nutritionists there might have some advice. I see articles about pouch reset diets and going 1 or 2 weeks on liquids only and then back to 600-800 calories a day like you did right after surgery. Maybe that'll help? Good luck.
  17. I'm now 9 weeks post-op and I've been having some problems with eating. At meals I'm getting full after a few bites of food. I'm struggling to get anywhere close to my daily protein goals. Both chicken and fish make me either feel sick or actually throw up. I can eat eggs sometimes as long as they're scrambled but can't manage more that a few bites ( I managed 3 for lunch). At this point, even the thought of protein shakes makes me ill. I do get hungry at meal times but, again, can only manage a few bites before I'm full. Pretty much the only protein source I can eat is minced beef, wafer thin ham/turkey, babybels and yoghurt . Even then, the ham/turkey makes my stomach a bit uncomfortable and eating yoghurt makes my stomach feel like it's both full and that I haven't eaten anything somehow. I'm struggling to manage the 800 cals a day I should be eating. And, like I said, I'm getting nowhere near the 60-80g of protein I should be eating. I've been having a lot of dizzy spells recently when I stand up. I'm not sure if this is being caused by my POTS or if it's because I'm not eating enough. I've had all my bloods checked and everything is normal. Could you suggest some easy to stomach recipes that I could give a try or offer any advice? Also, I read somewhere that, along with food, bariatric surgery can cause malabsorption of medication as well. Has anyone experienced this?
  18. OK, this is heavy heavy stuff about doing the headwork. This guy, Dr. Cywes, is a bariatric surgeon and he has a pretty unique approach to nutrition and reward systems. http://lowcarbmd.com/episode-10-dr-cywes-lays-it-down?fbclid=IwAR1Zt1Nogz-Wy5enkHdwqnvNpRYvfZEMbDoxIaW2LGgKbW8c2VWt4Jqawzs I swear a big piece of the puzzle fell into place for me today. It's well worth the investment of time!

    I'm day 1 Post Op

Believe it or not, I am nearly 7 months out And I still do it. Only difference, you know the tiny condiments like sometimes they put in with salads to hold the dressings? Found out that they measure 2 oz, so bought a bag from Wal-Mart, not very expensive at all, I use them for my fluids at home, drink every 10-15 minutes the 2 oz and it's an easy peasy way to get way over the 64 oz minimum. But in , have a wonderful healing up from your surgery and happy to have you as a Bariatric Sibling!😝🍀🎁😝

    I lied

Froufrou the standard answer in my day- oh my Good Lord I sound like one of my relatives- cringe cringe was: If you will forgive me for not answering I will forgive you for asking such a question. A little heavy but it usually worked. And before I got educated about bariatric et all, I was one of the people that thought cancer, "Arnold", actually had a cousin with the name, is deliberately starving her and he really WAS that mean in other facets of life, she has developed anorexia, or they have lost their jobs and don't want anyone to know. Weight loss like we all are endeavoring to do- nope never entered my mind! And to be honest at this point, saw a " shirt tale" kind of a step- cousin, her great- aunt married my great- uncle, anyway we're close to the same age, well I was honest, She came up and said " Frustr8 you look different, have you lost weight or something? "Yeah Pammy Jo, I am now almost half the woman I used be and twice as happy as I ever guessed I could be!." And she paused a minute and then threw her arms around me and hugged me. Praise God she didn't mention that I now resemble Great Uncle Henry, the one that made us related. I just as leave not hear that, he died in the 50s and I was Young then.

    I lied

I agree we are bombarded with weight loss Information and online forums to beat weight loss, diet, surgery, fitness, eating disorders and body image into the ground. Wow, I don’t see many of these topics and being a closeted subjects. To each there own about disclosing WLS. Some may want to shout the lifesaving benefits of WLS to the world. Others may simply be private people that keep their medical info to themselves. Some of us share with only people that are honestly interested. No need to beat your head against the wall with the many people that have negative opinions on WLS. Are we lacking in getting the word out on WLS? No – Google it! About 253,000,000 results (0.65 seconds) TV shows: Many discussing weight, WLS, my 600 pound life, Celebrities sharing there WLS experience, skin removal, diet, eating disorders, exercise, body positivity. Social media: Drs and hospitals advertising WLS, Instagram, bloggers, bariatric recipe site, pod casts, fitness and food log apps, YouTube and forums including bariatricpal. How many of these accounts are WLS patients and professionals? With all this information out there, Many of us don’t feel the need to be the weight loss or weight loss surgery spokesperson. Its not all about shame.. Side note: How many sites and forums on the topc of sex...LOL its a choice on how open you want to be on that topic as well.

    abdominoplasty after lapband

Hello!! i am 6 years out from my lap band and had a tt about 2 years after. There were no issues working around the port or tubing. The ONLY issue is that I can see the port through my shirt. No one else seems to notice but my flat stomach and abs (I workout a lot) make the port stick out slightly. A good surgeon has probably worked on bariatric patients in the past and can work around. Next month I am having my final surgery. Lower body lift. I’ve had boobs, tt, a lot of lipo and now this. All worth it of course. Let me know if I can help further. Congrats on your success.
  24. Had my first initial appointment with the surgeons dr. I had to do an assessment and discussion with this doctor he works with the surgeon and assists him. If anyone is from Adelaide Australia and looking at surgery I suggest you look into Ashford hospital bariatrics. I will meet the surgeon next time but for a first impression face to face with this doctor he was so friendly open to the point he listened to everything I had to say he was impressed with how much I knew and I told him I've been researching everything for months and he agreed with me about the RNY mostly because of how bad my diabetes type2 is that's number one, we had a good discussion he was so easy to get along with and I've dealt with many doctors in my life. I was very happy with the process he said I can make the next appointment with the surgeon closer to my date and he will discuss my case with the surgeon Dr Teague but he can't see any reason why the bypass won't happen! This is the full process literally; see him today, see him and surgeon Next time, see dietitian to discuss pre-op diet, have the surgery see the dietitian at least once post op, obviously come in for checkups post op I was so happy, he said there may be others that have lower prices but they aren't as well trained and one surgeon actually had never been trained and got in big trouble years back but his surgery and Ashford have many good reviews and he was very professional but being in Australia I still have six months waiting period before insurance will cover the surgery then I pay a gap of $4000 that's everything. I really feel bad for some of the hoops American insurance companies have I'm glad it's more straightforward with the surgeon I've chosen.
  25. Yep this! ^^^ You have to have a game plan for eating. Your nutritionist and bariatric team are the ones to help you figure this out. First. Get to goal. Don't get pg yet!!!! Lose the 150lbs first, then worry about having a baby second. I know lots who gained very little or only about 5-10lbs with pg.
