40 lbs is a good loss but most doctors will let you get to a 2 lbs loss a week before they. Get stingy with fills. Mine is tight with filling... Often I had to beg for them and several times I was denied because I had lost 8-10 lbs that month. Why not go into the office and have a good conversation with the dr... Tell him you got the band to have a tool and you believe with a fill it will be more effective. Not going isn't good.... That's how people get off track so try it one more time and be Prepared with every thing you are doing... So he knows you are doing your part like tracking food, portions, calories etc. Good luck
  3. There's a formula for how much protien you should have a day. Ideal weight divided 2.2 x 1.25 For me It ended up to 74.2, wow. I don't how it actually works, but years ago I did a high protien and complex carb diet w/ exercise and it was the first time I loss A LOT of weight. This formula is from.....www.bariatriceating.com. what do think you think??
  4. Can anyone help? All my info was submitted to my insurance on Nov.4,2010, then the following week we received a letter stating that they wanted results of my sleep study, the results and a letter from my GP stating that I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, 3 month doctor followed weight loss and medical necessity was resubmitted on Nov. 18,2010. Now, I called the insurance company to make sure they received the fax and that it was sent to the correct dept. cause I truly believe they "lose or misplace" your paperwork on purpose, and the person I spoke to indicated that she personally sent it to the review dept.. The following morning I called just to check the status and some twit tells me I MET all the medical requirements and have been APPROVED, so I immediately contacted my doctor's office to tell them the GOOD news, they contacted the insurance company and was told to call back this week before thanksgiving to get the approval code. Well imagine my surprise when I was contacted by my doctor's office stating the insurance company informed them this morning that I was DENIED!!!! When I called to find out they told me it looks like I have 2 different folders and maybe they didn't have all my info on the first look, so I asked a few more questions, then she tells me it looks like they don't have proof of 2 co-morbities, when she just told me she has the letter my doctor sent her and the medical transcript from my sleep study. I AM SO CONFUSED,and to top it off, I have been on my pre-op diet since Friday and my surgery is scheduled for Dec.6th. If any one has any advise or help please respond. Thanks in advance.
  5. Congrats on so much weight loss. With all changes with your job situation, I really want to commend you for doing so well. I personally think that the lapband is a just tool for you to lose weight and maintain the weight lost and it sounds like you doing great and I personally would not change anything. You will know if you stop losing weight that you need a fill. In the meantime, keep doing what you are doing! Helen
  6. You said it. Until you get fills you won't have restriction. Now is a time to not worry about portions but focus on healing. The band is NOT rapid weight loss like by pass; the average is 1-2 pounds a week ONCE you have restriction. Give it time and give yourself a chance to heal. And don't just drink tea; you need some plain old water! (I know, I love sugar free tea too) I have found I need a good quantity of Water each day . My surgeon requires 64 ounces and I try to get that much each day...then I allow myself tea. Try that. BUT remember...you are healing right now. Let your body adjust.

    7 months out

You look great. And down to a 12 from a 22 - an inspiration! This is such a long journey - and really for me the emotional/mental part is so much harder than I expected. There are days when I don't want to be a weight loss surgery patient; I just want to be "normal". "Normal" in that I want to eat what I want, not wait to drink before or after, and most importantly not think about where I am at for the day on Protein before making my decision on what to eat. I know what I just wrote IS my new normal, but sometimes, I want to rebel against that. I hope things get better for you. You should be proud of your accomplishments!!!!

    Water

I think that this is the fill that is going to kick me back into weight loss. I can finally eat today, but not much at all, not like before. Before I was eating like 1/2 a "normal" meal. now I stop after 4-5 bites! YIPEEE!
  9. I'm just curious about this because I had my last fill the first of January and I'm beginning to think its time for another one. I've never gone more than a month without needing a fill and am wondering if its normal to go 3 months, or longer, between fills and still be losing weight. Thanks for your input!!

    Need Help!

HELP! I was sleeved on June 23 and my weight loss has virtually stopped! I haven't lost but a couple pounds in 5 Weeks. I am taking my vitamins, working out, getting 60+ protein, and trying to keep low carbs. I am exhausted from trying to figure it out! I am staying at around 700 calories per day and I can't figure it out! I also feel hungry. I can eat about a cup of food 3 times a day plus a couple snacks. Any help would really be appreciated.

Waist: 49 Hips: 60 inches Upper Arms: 17 inches Wrist: 7.25 inches Bust: 48 inches Calves: 18 inches Thighs: 28 inches With dieting you can expect to lose roughly 1 inch in waist circumference for each 6 to 8 pounds of body weight loss. If along with dieting you exercise, particularly by lifting weights, you expect to lose even more tummy per pound, although your actual body weight loss may be a little slower. The scale at home is showing between 249-251; this is weighing naked and in the mornings. The scale in the clinic at work showed 266!! This was at 9:30PM and I was fully dressed. There is such a big difference. I think I will shop for a new scale this weekend. I still need to drink more water. I think I am only averaging about 48 ounces a day. I need to get in excess of 64 ounces. I think I would like to get a bit more fill in about another month. Maybe .5. Weight Goal Stats Current Weight Your weight is 250 lb as of 05/31/2006. Weight Goal Your goal is to weigh 199 lb by 08/11/2006 Goal Progress You are currently 51 lb above the target weight. The deadline for your goal is 72 days (10 weeks, 2 days) away. To meet your goal you need to lose about 4.96 lb per week. ******************************************************** Base Metabolic Rate 1,878 * 7 = 13,146 3,500 Calories = 1 lb. to lose 4.96 lb per week = 17,360 -4,214

  14. One thing people may be looking at is your face. A lot of time after rapid weight loss, your face can have sort of a gaunt look. I'm not there yet, but in 2008 when I lost 100 pounds my face looked really gaunt. I know that very well because it was when I had my last drivers license photo made. So far I've lost 65 pounds (pre and post op) so it's not as bad this time. I wish I could keep my face as it was when I had lost about 40 pounds. So my theory is that at least some people suggest to stop losing because of the way our faces look, not our bodies.

    Two Month Stall

I'm in my second stall now. I was stalled for 4 weeks. Then had a loss. Now stalled again and have been now this second time for 3 weeks. I'm only 8 weeks out so out of my 8 weeks, 7 have been spent stalled. Not exciting in terms of the scale moving but the inch loss is awesome.

    Stall Questions

if you stick to your program, it'll break. Plus at 228, you're pretty light for a weight loss surgery patient, so it's not going to come off as it would for someone who starts at over 300 lbs. But hang in there - it *will* break...
  18. I had my gastric bypass almost 5 weeks ago. I have seen my NUT and surgeon and they both said my weight loss is good (30) pounds. My problem is that I haven't lost any weight for almost two weeks. I have even varied between UP a pound and my stall weight. I suppose I'm just flabbergasted that not only am I not losing anymore, but that sometimes the number on the scale is higher. I always weigh at the same time every morning. I have type 2 diabetes and my blood sugars have been great, very few spikes and working on tapering down on insulin. My average macros for a day are less than 800 calories per day. 80-90g protein. 25-30g fat and 20-30g of carbs. At my post op check up they told me I was in ketosis and to up my carbs. This is also confusing as I thought being in ketosis was a good thing. I felt awful (fatigue, nausea) for a few days before my post op appointment, not to mention being stalled or almost a week at that point, and they told me upping my carbs would help. So now I average 35-45g carbs. The symptoms have subsided but the stall continues. I guess I'm wondering if a stall this long and this early on is normal and if upping my carbs to 35-45g is going to derail me further. I can't seem to find any answers and I don't have any friends to talk to about the stress of not losing weight. If you're reading this, thanks for listening. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Fingernails

OMG- Shellac is the best! Its a UV cured "polish" that goes on just like normal nail polish with a 2min UV light cure between coats- it lasts for 7-15 days before chipping and comes off by placing a cotton ball soaked in acetone on fingernail, wrap in foil and 7 min later it slides right off. I have been "shellacing" for 2 years now and have had NO NAIL DAMAGE, discoloration or splitting. Its a miracle product in my book. Its worth every dime!!!! BTW: My nails are fantastic lately.... I think that after your body adjusts your nails, skin and hair start using the additional nutrients better- I think the nails grow so quick that it shows up first and (sadly) the hair sees improvement last.

    My 26th Bday

Hi everyone, my 26th Birthday is coming up in less than one month 1/16. I have been doing great with my weight loss…down 80lbs from August 2013. I really wanted to meet up at a local club/bar here in Orange County, CA to Celebrate but I don’t know how I am going to handle the drinks and scene. I feel great and look great. Does anyone have any ideas? Part of me wants to have a few drinks, celebrate, show off my new self (haha) but then I know I really shouldn't.

    Painkillers

I had IV dilaudid via the PCA pump in the hospital. It made me nauseous though, so I stopped pushing my button for it at about 3am the night after surgery. Once I passed my leak test the next day, they gave me the liquid lortab, which worked fine. Then they sent me home with vicodin pills, which I took once or twice a day for the first week. I bought liquid tylenol on the way home from the hospital, and mostly used that. When I first met with my surgeon, I had to sign something saying that I understood that he would only prescribe pain medications for the first 30 days after the surgery. I'm amazed that some people needed them for that long, because I really had no pain after the first week. All I've used for pain control since surgery, for headaches, sore muscles, cramps, etc. is Arnica. I used to need to pop 3 or 4 Aleve a day during my cycle, but haven't had a bad one since surgery. Fingers crossed that the weight loss has somehow helped that too!
  22. My sister and I in the same boat. 3 weeks out and no loss. From what I've been reading this is normal. Alot of people experience the 3 week stall. With the amount of food that you are intaking...loss is bound to pick up again soon. Hang in there!! Trust me this is going to work for you. I'll keep you updated.

    A cry for a friend...

Your story brought tears to my eyes. I am picturing two wonderful friends sharing their excitement about their next journey together and how their lives about to change forever together. Both being scared, nervous and so happy for one another. Because you are right, if you have no friends or family that are in your shoes they have no clue the heartache obesity causes each and everyday. Yet you had someone to share that with and it was taken away from you. Although you are grieving maybe picture your friend with her angel wings pushing you along each day and she is watching you over you every minute. I believe this is what she would want for you. I am so sorry for your loss...you have chosen a great nurturing website that will help get you through this. You can be angry, sad and be completely honest on the site. Although we may not know someone who has passed from WLS, we do walk in your shoes everyday as for the physical and emotional pain obesity brings us. Please take care of yourself as this is what your friend would want...only the best for you. May God bless you in these days ahead and you can always do a shout out here....on behalf of LapBandtalk, prayers and hugs to you.. Please forgive me for asking, but may i ask what went wrong? I don't mean to be rude, but i am thinking many are wondering what happened since this is the first time i have heard of one passing of WLS...Again, i am so sorry, i just cannot imagine what your going through. I am worried about your recovery and keeping up with your nutrients....Be careful and keep an open communication with your doctor..they should know about this as like many have mentioned, you need to keep your strength up, be well.....

    Struggling some 7mo out why?!

I would drop the protein shakes and replace with food that will make you feel full and stay full longer. I stopped using protein shakes on a daily basis by 4-5 months I believe and even then I only had one a day. It appears you are a vegetarian, I’m not but others here are or have been. @GreenTealael @summerset @FluffyChix might be able to help you with ideas to increase protein without relying on shakes. This link will take you to a thread where we share what we eat. Food thread As far a hunger goes I have hungry/ravenous days out of the blue. I just make sure I have good choices available so I don’t grab chips or cookie. The bags of small apples they sell now are a perfect size for me. I also keep a big box of black seedless grapes in the fridge. Congratulations on your weight loss so far, that is amazing! 6 pounds in one month 7 months post surgery isn’t unusual as far as I know. Your weight loss will slow down as you get closer to your goal weight. May I ask how close you are?
