  1. I'm half-way through the puree stage, and very ready to be over it! I'm doing yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese (chew it really well), refried Beans with salsa and cheese, ricotta with marinara and cheese, pureed great northern beans and cauliflower with pesto, and tuna with mayo and pickle juice. this week I found a white chicken chili recipe and a turkey chili recipe I plan on trying. Also, I have Campbell's Broccoli Cheese or Tomato Soup in a pinch. I tried scrambled eggs plain and with cottage cheese, and also pureed deviled eggs, but those all felt really heavy in my sleeve. Tasted good, though. I can't bring myself to puree meat- I've just been looking for things that are supposed to be that texture.
  2. I was sleeved May 23rd... I'm down 61 lbs. I know I couldnt have ever dreamed of doing that pre-sleeve... but I also imagined myself much further along by now. I've been stuck for a few weeks now... I had been adding granola to my yogurt which I since quit... and I'm back to logging and weighing as of today. I have 23 to go to get to ONEderland... I pray I get there. I'm trying hard not to get depressed...I feel like I eat so little that I cant believe I'm in this situation. How many cals/protein is normal at 9 months? Any advice is appreciated- EJ

    Any puréed food ideas

When I was on the pureed stage I ate cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs, refried Beans with a little bit of light sour cream... or you could put a little cheese on them. And the thing that I ate the most of was canned chicken that I would mash with a fork (my nutritionist said I didn't have to put it in the blender).... and I would add a little lowfat mayo to the chicken and make a chicken salad out of it. You could also do mashed sweet potatoes, mashed carrots or mashed potatoes. I didn't eat much of the last 3 things, mainly because I was concentrating on getting that Protein in. And I always pass this along because it's great tasting and you can have it on the pureed food stage. A recipe for ricotta bake can be found here: theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com She has a whole area of pureed food recipes... she is a former WLS patient with a great success story.

    Failure

I'm am so tired of fake sugar it drives me crazy. My shakes turned into iced coffee and a couple scoops of the powder protien. I can mentally handle that much better. The thought of soup, yogurt and milk makes me ill. It's all about baby steps and one thing at a time from what I can tell so far. Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Lunch ideas

Avocado, shredded chicken, string cheese, tuna, yogurt, almonds; there is a Chinese place near my work that has great Teriyaki chicken that's low sodium and low carb, I'll eat that a la carte for a treat. I also really like having soup for lunch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Panic Attacks?

you are not far out so don't put so much pressure on yourself. be gentle think of what you would tell someone else who came to you with the issue. try Protein Water. I don't really like the taste but water it down half and half and can take it in. keep trying different kinds of Protein drinks in different flavors also. you will find one that you can stand ( remember that anytime you try a new food it takes several times to start liking it so it is the same with protein drinks. also get unflavoured protein and HIDE it in your Soups or yogurt etc. several other suggestions that helped me. when I was alone and bored is when I would binge on food so now it is when I start to have a pity party or ruminate on problems. I am finding distractions to help. call someone and talk=take a bubble bath- get out in nature and walk= play with kids or pets even if you have to borrow them-do puzzles ( crossword work search or jig saw) learn a craft or new card game. listen to music ( upbeat ) and sing along to the top of your lungs. listen to meditation or stress reduction tapes ( there are lots on u tube for free) there are tons more ideas you can do to keep the crazy monkey chatter in your mind. remember we are all here for you also. also consider a therapy session or two if it continues for long. good luck to you

    Two weeks post-op

I'm in the last few days of my first two weeks and I'm so sick of protein drinks I could scream. I arranged something with an Indian restaurant near my house. They will be making me puréed dishes with no seeds, high protein low carb and fats for the next few weeks. I just picked up some cheesecloth for making paneer (yogurt cheese) and plan to stop at Trader Joe's for some Thai and Indian sauces and tofu. No puréed chicken breast for me!!!! Anyone anxious about new food?

Chicken Caesar is good but the chewing is essential. I think it will be long term with the chewing unless we are really stretching out that hole between the stomach and intestine. I get what you means that its weird and sometimes gross, but with the salad i dont feel like it is gross. I tried a piece of breakfast sausage this morning and could barely take it after a few bites. Never again. My favorites still remain -- retried beans and lean beef chili with pinto beans and Greek yogurt. I'm okay with this after trying new things and not enjoying them at all. 8 1/2 months out...

@Brenda818 I have days where I am hungrier than others. I am much hungrier than I was in the beginning. I had been using a calorie goal of 600-800 until about 2 months ago and was famished until my nutritionist told me I should be at 1000-1200 now (oops haha). I'm trying to eat more Protein and raw veggies now which helps with the hunger. I was eating things like popcorn and such but I feel like those are slider foods. I still have them but not as often. I wasn't eating enough veggies according to my nutritionist but I wasn't eating them because they felt harder to digest. Eating them though has helped with my hunger. I will eat some raw veggies with dip I made from plain greek yogurt mixed with a dry ranch dressing packet. It helps up my protein but keeps it in my calorie range. I find that I get FAMISHED every time I work out though. It is really annoying. My surgeon suggested I eat protein and carbs before and after my work out to try and help with my hunger, It has helped a little but I still get pretty hungry.

    Pureed Stage

Good afternoon When I was on the pureed stage I had scrambled eggs and you don't have to blend them, just small, slow bites. Also, cottage cheese, refried Beans with either a little light sour cream or melted cheese on them. Yogurt, canned chicken or tuna mixed with a little light mayo or yogurt to make a chicken or tuna salad. I ate a lot of chicken salad. You can also have mashed sweet potatoes or potatoes, but I didn't eat much of that because I wanted to keep my carbs to a minimum and always go for my Protein first. Also, you can have homemade ricotta bake on the pureed stage and I made it and it was wonderful. This website has the recipe for it: theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com She had WLS and has a great website with recipes on the pureed stage.

    Calcium

I ended up going with the Upcal dissolving calcium powder, I was a little hesitant at first but glad I did because you really do not notice it at all! It's a very fine tasteless powder and I put a scoop in my protein shake, mix into yogurt and even in water and you cannot tell it's there. I don't like the chewy stuff that gets stuck in your teeth so this works for me Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

  15. Hey at 3 months post op you won't be able to eat much of anything especially meat. If you're throwing up try slowing down when eating it takes awhile to eat at that early stage. Sip water throughout the day and don't drink with meals. I always have a protein shake or yogurt with my vitamins. Some of the chewables are good if your dr approves. I started taking chewable skin and hair vitamins and they helped my skin also fish oils. I was never able to get in 32 ounces of water a day. But make sure to get the 2 protein shakes in for the first 6 months. It gets easier I can eat everything now...just not as much. I miss those early days of seeing what I could eat and watching the scale drop! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. not much to add to above, but I love cheese stix with a slice of turkey or ham wrapped around it. one would be around 12-15 gm of Protein, great snack. I can eat nuts too, that is very satisfying. Faya yogurt is 23gms of protein per cup. If you get peanut powder, and add that to your smoothies and other foods, that adds extra protein as well. I have to have my Protein shakes over ice as well. cottage cheese is great as well.
  17. So I'm 16 days post op and I'm having so many issues with food and liquids. I'm only averaging about 30 oz of fluids a day and 200-300 calories if I'm lucky. I'm barely getting in any Protein. Less than 10 g a day. I don't know what to do... so much seems to make me nauseous and I can't even stand the thought of food. I've already been to the hospital for nausea and dehydration. My mom is convinced that when I see the surgeons pa tomorrow that they are going to send me to the hospital to force me to eat. She thinks I'm deliberately starving myself for attention or that I'm depressed. I am upset about how things are playing out but I'm not depressed. I know this will pass eventually. When I can eat it's only about 1.5-2oz. I need calories from somewhere but I seriously CANT have any protein shakes. I've always had issues with them but since surgery... well those of you who've had surgery know what I mean. Help please! I don't know what to do! I've tried yogurts, Soups, Jello, scrambled eggs, ricotta cheese, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat... I really don't know what to do anymore. Even the unflavored Protein Powder is just ? help please! 9 Months and the Game is Changing

Sooo Im at like 7 months right now... I'm at a weight that's very comfortable for me so if I can slow my weight loss to about 5 lbs a month I'd be satisfied!!! My goal was 140--- Now I feel like 160 might be it for me... I'm 167 currently. I'm not concerned about slow weight loss. SO... I keep my routine going. I don't count calories AT ALL!!!!!! I'm more focused on food groups. I still have something light for breakfast- a fruit and veggie smoothie, or a Protein shake, or fruit and yogurt or Breakfast meat but I eat something preferably something with protein but sometimes I just want a smoothie. Grazing is life!!!!!! I bring or purchase a grazebox at work so my Snacks are already ready to go. My grazebox usually contains 4 items it could be 8 cheese cubes, 10 cucumber slices , 15 grapes, and 1/4 cup of mixed nuts (cashews, almonds, pecans, peanuts) Its in a divided container so it fits perfectly. I have other combinations like cheese, apple slices, hummus and celery, or Nuts, pineapple, carrots and strawberries. Anyways I graze on this ALL DAY at work starting at about noon. My lunch is usually 1 item. Today it was 4 lemon pepper wing dings, Tomorrow it might be a mini garden salad with grilled chicken. It might be a leftover baked porkchop or lobstertail from last nights dinner. By 3 oclock I'm back snacking on my grazebox and I usually still have food left over by the end of the day. I take it home and add it to my grazebox for the next day. Sometimes I can easily skip lunch because the grazebox keeps me satisfied. Its all about what you are grazing on. I usually leave work about 430-5pm I have to pick kids up and stop by the store sometimes I snack on what remains of the grazebox or whatever was left from lunch but I don't typically eat after 6pm and I'm not hungry. Now 1-2 times per week I may eat out with the family, or join a friend for drinks but that is the only instance where I may really eat past 6 or 7pm. Sometimes I might just purchase food eat a few bites of salad and carryout the rest. Find what works for you... I personally see nothing wrong with grazing. Just watch the carbs and make sure your activity levels are where they should be. You know what that is... what works for you may not work for me and vice versa. I was going to the gym 4-5 days a week but I wasn't pushing myself so I started taking kickboxing classes, boot camp and classes that would push me to my physical limits.

Make sure your yogurt is sugar free. Just because you're off your diabetic med doesn't mean the diabetes is gone. You still have to stay away from sugar to maintain good sugar levels. At least until your hormone levels level out. Sent from my LG-K550 using the BariatricPal App

    First post op appointment

I haven't hit the puréed diet part yet. I still have 10 more days. I am soooo looking forward to it. My nutritionist said eggs are fine but for some reason if you scramble them patients tend not to do well with them. Doesn't know why and thinks possibly when you whip them they may have too much air in them? So she recommends cooking them a different way. As for me?...I'm looking forward to some Greek yogurt! ?

    Soups 2 wks post op

When I was on full liquids, I could not have lentil soup. In fact, all Soups had to be strained, making sure that I didn't have any pieces of food in it. Lentils would be way to hard on your stomach right now. You have to protect your stomach, so please make sure that you are doing full liquids only. Cream soups, broth, yogurt, sugar free pudding, sugar free Jello were all considered acceptable on my full liquids phase.
