  1. Hey at 3 months post op you won't be able to eat much of anything especially meat. If you're throwing up try slowing down when eating it takes awhile to eat at that early stage. Sip water throughout the day and don't drink with meals. I always have a protein shake or yogurt with my vitamins. Some of the chewables are good if your dr approves. I started taking chewable skin and hair vitamins and they helped my skin also fish oils. I was never able to get in 32 ounces of water a day. But make sure to get the 2 protein shakes in for the first 6 months. It gets easier I can eat everything now...just not as much. I miss those early days of seeing what I could eat and watching the scale drop! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. not much to add to above, but I love cheese stix with a slice of turkey or ham wrapped around it. one would be around 12-15 gm of Protein, great snack. I can eat nuts too, that is very satisfying. Faya yogurt is 23gms of protein per cup. If you get peanut powder, and add that to your smoothies and other foods, that adds extra protein as well. I have to have my Protein shakes over ice as well. cottage cheese is great as well.
  3. So I'm 16 days post op and I'm having so many issues with food and liquids. I'm only averaging about 30 oz of fluids a day and 200-300 calories if I'm lucky. I'm barely getting in any Protein. Less than 10 g a day. I don't know what to do... so much seems to make me nauseous and I can't even stand the thought of food. I've already been to the hospital for nausea and dehydration. My mom is convinced that when I see the surgeons pa tomorrow that they are going to send me to the hospital to force me to eat. She thinks I'm deliberately starving myself for attention or that I'm depressed. I am upset about how things are playing out but I'm not depressed. I know this will pass eventually. When I can eat it's only about 1.5-2oz. I need calories from somewhere but I seriously CANT have any protein shakes. I've always had issues with them but since surgery... well those of you who've had surgery know what I mean. Help please! I don't know what to do! I've tried yogurts, Soups, Jello, scrambled eggs, ricotta cheese, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat... I really don't know what to do anymore. Even the unflavored Protein Powder is just ? help please! 9 Months and the Game is Changing

Sooo Im at like 7 months right now... I'm at a weight that's very comfortable for me so if I can slow my weight loss to about 5 lbs a month I'd be satisfied!!! My goal was 140--- Now I feel like 160 might be it for me... I'm 167 currently. I'm not concerned about slow weight loss. SO... I keep my routine going. I don't count calories AT ALL!!!!!! I'm more focused on food groups. I still have something light for breakfast- a fruit and veggie smoothie, or a Protein shake, or fruit and yogurt or Breakfast meat but I eat something preferably something with protein but sometimes I just want a smoothie. Grazing is life!!!!!! I bring or purchase a grazebox at work so my Snacks are already ready to go. My grazebox usually contains 4 items it could be 8 cheese cubes, 10 cucumber slices , 15 grapes, and 1/4 cup of mixed nuts (cashews, almonds, pecans, peanuts) Its in a divided container so it fits perfectly. I have other combinations like cheese, apple slices, hummus and celery, or Nuts, pineapple, carrots and strawberries. Anyways I graze on this ALL DAY at work starting at about noon. My lunch is usually 1 item. Today it was 4 lemon pepper wing dings, Tomorrow it might be a mini garden salad with grilled chicken. It might be a leftover baked porkchop or lobstertail from last nights dinner. By 3 oclock I'm back snacking on my grazebox and I usually still have food left over by the end of the day. I take it home and add it to my grazebox for the next day. Sometimes I can easily skip lunch because the grazebox keeps me satisfied. Its all about what you are grazing on. I usually leave work about 430-5pm I have to pick kids up and stop by the store sometimes I snack on what remains of the grazebox or whatever was left from lunch but I don't typically eat after 6pm and I'm not hungry. Now 1-2 times per week I may eat out with the family, or join a friend for drinks but that is the only instance where I may really eat past 6 or 7pm. Sometimes I might just purchase food eat a few bites of salad and carryout the rest. Find what works for you... I personally see nothing wrong with grazing. Just watch the carbs and make sure your activity levels are where they should be. You know what that is... what works for you may not work for me and vice versa. I was going to the gym 4-5 days a week but I wasn't pushing myself so I started taking kickboxing classes, boot camp and classes that would push me to my physical limits.

Make sure your yogurt is sugar free. Just because you're off your diabetic med doesn't mean the diabetes is gone. You still have to stay away from sugar to maintain good sugar levels. At least until your hormone levels level out. Sent from my LG-K550 using the BariatricPal App

    First post op appointment

I haven't hit the puréed diet part yet. I still have 10 more days. I am soooo looking forward to it. My nutritionist said eggs are fine but for some reason if you scramble them patients tend not to do well with them. Doesn't know why and thinks possibly when you whip them they may have too much air in them? So she recommends cooking them a different way. As for me?...I'm looking forward to some Greek yogurt! ?

    Soups 2 wks post op

When I was on full liquids, I could not have lentil soup. In fact, all Soups had to be strained, making sure that I didn't have any pieces of food in it. Lentils would be way to hard on your stomach right now. You have to protect your stomach, so please make sure that you are doing full liquids only. Cream soups, broth, yogurt, sugar free pudding, sugar free Jello were all considered acceptable on my full liquids phase.

    8 1/2 months out...

@Daja I eat around 1200 calories a day. I have not cut out carbs but I do focus more on protein. I use a lot of weight watcher recipes and also have Greek yogurt and protein shakes. My surgeon said I was actually getting TOO MUCH protein so I have cut out most protein bars but keep one with me at all times for emergencies so I don't get fast food or something if I end out being out during a meal. I have started going to the YMCA only recently because I had a lot of complications after surgery and wasn't really able to exercise much besides walking. I do about 30-45 minutes of cardio 3-4 times a week. Then I do the weight machines twice a week (I separate out my upper and lower body and do each twice a week). My weight loss really ranges. Sometimes I lose nothing for weeks or I lose 10 pounds in a week. In the past 5 days I've lost 6 pounds. But the week before I lost nothing.
  13. I talked to the nutritionist and the dr. I have followed all instructions since pre-op to a a T. I have never even liked rice before this, I know they told us we can get some rice crackers at some level (in my head they are the Chinese kind--not sure cuz I wasn't planning on getting). I think because there was nothing I felt like eating, they said 2 T or so, not a problem. Well, that's probably more than I had. Today I threw away 1/2 eaten containers of yogurt, cottage cheese, almost a whole container of avocado, some Ricotta Bake (read about recipe---people love this), green Beans ---those gag me now. Out of the 4 weeks I have spent almost 2 weeks (I know, TMI---but had the big D, whispering Diarrhea). I haven't been sick in almost 25 years, and this has taken it's toll on me. I was hoping the little bit of rice would stop losing weight cuz of the carbs, but nope lost another pound. I was so dehydrated I thought about going to dr. or urgent care, but finally no fever today. I didn't eat processed foods before surgery, and find anything like Pedialyte or Powerade Zero, sugar free Jello, can't do those popsicles at all, so chemically tasting. I always made my own food, was pretty LCHF and lately all Proteins seem unbearable. I tried making egg salad, chicken salad, all pureed....damn what a struggle. I figure maybe after this dehydration things totally passes, I will be able to eat again. I love fish, made some last night, nope, my hub had to eat it. Not even rotisserie chicken, which we can eat the dark. Who'd have thunk it???? Struggle to find food to eat. I used to love green beans from the Chinese restaurant, I mean love love love, I almost threw up trying to eat 2 pieces last night. This is just so crazy.

    What to eat?

Can you give us a little more info on what problems you are having with Protein? I eat chicken with salsa, shrimp salad, Filet Mignon, Chili, cheese, pork with LF Gravy, nuts, deli roast beef, mini meatloafs, meatballs, etc. Yogurt is a great source of protein. Fairlife Milk can be flavored with Hershey's SF chocolate Syrup for 13g of protein per 8 oz. I bake my chicken breasts on a cookie sheet sprayed with PAM Olive Oil and add cut up onions and peppers also sprayed with Pam Olive Oil. It takes 25 mins at 400 degrees and gives me 3 - 4 meals at least. You can add any seasoning you want to the chicken.

    two and half years out

Start with water to wake up your system. Then a protein shake or something easy on your system such as scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc. Lap-banded and love it!
  16. You have to be ready to want to lose. Like you said, it's a tool. I have two customers that went thru it, and now after 5 years, they both gained it all. One said it was sweets, she had personal grief (daughter passed) and she started just stuffing with sweets. The other two a couple said they just kept eating more and more carbs and went back to old habits. I know you said you don't wan to eat like before (4 slices of pizza), start practicing now. Order a salad, and a small pizza. Kids get a slice and some veggies or salads, and if they want a second....well kids if they play can handle one. Just practice. Today I picked up Chinese for my hub, and it's the first time I paid $6 for both our food. He just got way less stuff, a bit of sesame chicken and a lot less rice. I had two steamed dumplings (could only eat half the pork of one) and maybe a spoonful of rice. I had been sick and not eaten much since Sunday, so figured it was ok. I had only had one egg, one slice cheese Saturday, 1/2 yogurt Sunday, 1/2 Premier Protein yesterday. Very dehydrated, so figured the sodium would be ok. The addiction is vicious, in my head I can't even see an Olive Garden commercial. I love Pasta and that's all I think about. Been careful eating what I am suppose to. Til got sick Saturday. So the head hunger is a strong nasty enemy. Only sleeved on 1/10.

I need a helpful support team!

We're actually fairly close on numbers - I was sleeved about 2 weeks after you. Well, and am 45 [emoji16]. But girl, you have lost a TON of weight! Just this week I finally hit 50 down on the scale. After surgery, it took me almost a month just to get back down to my day of surgery weight, so I'm not a super fast loser. I AM get hungrier and able to eat more. Not starving, but definitely transitioning to real food. So yeah, I will eat part of a hamburger - but no bun. Cheese and turkey summer sausage - and no crackers. Chicken, verde sauce, and cheese topped with a dollop of Greek yogurt. Eating for protein really does make a difference for me. And the restriction is still there - I've had pretty severe anemia and couldn't eat very much for a couple of days. And man, my first piece of meat after was like, two bites and done. But I also see my grandma (diabetic) snacking on crackers all day and wondering why her health is failing and say, "Yeah, let's not do that." I had a blood transfusion yesterday, in addition to iron treatments, and the doctor is trying to fast track me for a hysterectomy. (Peri-menopausal + jacked hormones + weight loss is proving to be too much for my body.) I also have a bad ankle I'm hoping to get back to PT for soon. In June, I'll be 46. So there's no way on earth a healthy young thing like you can't stay on track if I can [emoji16]. September to summer birthdays! Even with surgeries, I'll keep trying [emoji106]. It won't be an instant miracle, but as long as it keeps going, I'll consider myself blessed. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Kombucha or no?

Wow - that update ate some text! Well, OP already knows what I said about waiting 3 months and trying very small half flat sips for the probiotics. And talking to my NUT. And waiting like, a half hour between sips. Oh - and being really careful of the carbs - some are way more sweetened than others. As for the jello, some of the paleo crew make kombucha gummies for the probiotics. You might want to check those out - gelatin and kombucha probiotics are a powerful gut health combo. I just made very weak jello post-op using Great Lakes gelatin dissolved in water and then whisked into some flat kombucha. It was okay - I really, REALLY would not risk any carbonation right after surgery. I keep meaning to try some newer versions just for the jello and general gut health aspect, but haven't gotten around to it. Do you like kefir? The stuff in the states has had the carbonation killed off, but I did drink unsweetened kefir with a couple drops of flavored stevia post-op. Again, mostly for the probiotics. But it's not a bad yogurt drink, either. I have never been an unsweetened person, but tastes change and post-op, the sweet leaf berry stevia drops are pretty good. How much is to much sugar in a day

After gastric bypass surgery, many people use yogurt. Generally the advise is to avoid yogurt with fruit on the bottom because the fruit generally has added sugar. Greek yogurt is better than normal yogurt because it has almost twice the protein content. So I would recommend that you select a yogurt with "no added sugar". Read the ingredient label for contents and avoid any yogurt with process sugar listed in the ingredients. Milk and milk products can contain natural sugars. So even though the yogurt may indicate 6 grams of sugar, if it is all derived from natural sugars contained in the dairy used to make the yogurt, that will not present a problem.
  20. So how much is to much sugar to eat in a day, I has the gastric bypass 2 weeks post op, been eating yogurt, one has 7 gram and one has 6 grams I eat on snack to help get my Protein in, is that to many sugars in one day? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. Soft flaky fish, chopped turkey or chicken, cheese and cottage cheese, boiled eggs, thicker scrambled eggs or poached eggs, advocado, thicker Soups, greek yogurt, soft fruits (nothing with seeds in them for this stage). Very soft veg which is not fibrus. Protein drinks and things from Phase 1. I think thats what I lived on for this stage. Kate

    My new favorite yogurt

lol, it's funny you say "regular yogurt". It's really only America that eats what you probably consider normal. I have to admit, it took some getting used to, but I accidently grabbed one of my daughters yogurts not too long ago. Oh god, it was awful! It was slimy like mucus to me! It's all about what you are used to. Take any greek yogurt and put it in the freezer for a while. Just before it freezes, it's almost like ice cream. That's how I transitioned over to it. Hell, half the time now I just eat plain unflavored yogurt.

    Messed up already?

Taken a step back, can't seem to drink more than 32-40 oz of Water. I think maybe dehydrated a bit again, felt great Friday, worked, got home, cooked for hub, did 3 loads laundry, perfect day. Then Saturday ate one egg/sl cheese, and could not eat any other food that day, had a half a yogurt yesterday (can't stand those Dannon or Oikos, need to get to Wholefoods). Will try and eat something now. Do not feel like eating at all. Still feverish, got fever and chills Saturday, and now have migraine and body aches. I am trying to drink as much possible. I am 4 weeks tomorrow from VSG.
  24. That's the thing I'm not meeting the Fluid and Protein I'm just having a yogurt a day and 2 small meals like yesterday I had 2 scrambled eggs and for dinner 3 spoon fulls of mashed potatoes. I can't get anything down and I drink lots of Water Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
