  2. My name is melynie and I'm new to this group. I'm 32 years old married with two daughters. My oldest is 13 and youngest is 2. I been struggling with my weight all my life. I've tried different diets and some worked while on diet pills but as soon as I stopped taking diet pills the weight came back with a little extra added. My highest weight have been 330 and that was being pregnant with my youngest daughter. I dropped 30 pounds some months after delivering. I had tons of fluid. I'm going for lap band hopefully in 2013. Don't have a date yet. I'm still in my manditory 6 month weight management class. I graduate from class on feb 14th 2013. I've had my psych eval and my dietician appt. my insurance requires 2 dietician apps. So my last one is scheduled jan 23rd. I'm so excited and can't wait to have my surgery. I have a lot of support from all my fam and friends. One of my aunts is getting the lap band surgery also. So it's good to be her cheerleader and she can be mines. I've been reading over a lot of post on this site and I love how everyone motivates each other. Oh and I'm from Baltimore Maryland.
  3. Hey can anyone help me with loading my WEIGHT TICKER on my page?

    PORT PAIN!

I have had my lap band for two years and over that time i have had on and off tenderness at the port site. However over the past week the port site ha become so sore i went to the emergency ward at the hospital and was told i have "spontaneous cellulitis" and have ben put on a iv of cefriaxone 3g for three days untill i can get to see my surgeon. I have not had a fill for a few months so the dr can not find a reason as to why i have gained an infection. I have burning to the site and pain when i move. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so what was the outcome? i am a little concerned that if i need it removed or replaced that i may need to fork out another **** load of money grrrr!!!! And that once again i will be going under the knife for surgery!!!

    pre op diet?

Floridays, I have seen a lot of people on the same pre-op diet as you were on. It sure makes me feel very fortunate to be on the pre-op diet I was given. Oh, and looking at your weight loss history since you were banded, may I say "excellent job".
  6. Hi... I do not have the band nor scheduled my surgery, yet. It's a huge step that I want to take but am more than a little nervous about. A little about me - I'm 26, 5'9" 335lbs, married to an amazing man and my best friend for 2.5 years, photographer, biker, no kids yet just animals - a pug, a cat, and 2 birds =) that's me in a nutshell! My husband and I went to a band-consultation together - with him thinking "let's do it" and me thinking "i don't know". Afterwards, we traded opinions. For now, we've decided, if we move forward, it will be for me alone and he will probably do it at a later time. My hesitation now is that I did what I was advised to do... research the good and the bad. The good is, of course, amazing - the perfect partner to help you achieve your goals. The bad... is pretty bad - worse than what the patient advocate described. The doctor and band related complications are terrifying by themselves. But also the possibility of causing problems by not sticking to the program - WOW!! I'm looking at this b/c I've tried to lose weight on my own and can't. How is this really going to be any different? Now, if I get off my diet, I gain the weight back (with all the future illnesses that can cause). With the band, if I don't do exactly what I'm supposed to do... I could cause all kinds of damage to my body, be completely miserable, have projectile vomit, get malnourished, and so many other things. For now, I don't know what we will ultimately decide. But I'm very glad I found this site. It's extremely helpful.
  7. If you dont take your vitamins can it cause you to eat more cause your not getting in enough nutrients? Willl that cause you to gain weight back?

    New Here

Hey everyone! I'm new to this group, I haven't had surgery yet, and quite honestly I don't know when my surgery will be scheduled for. I am getting nervous. I feel like I have been at this for ages, but I know that's me just being impatient. The program I am in is pretty intensive (don't get me wrong, that's a good thing-- I am getting so much info) but it is exhausting. I have had to go to orientation, 2 appts with my coordinator, one with my surgeon, 2 appts with a dietician, 2 support groups, and EGD, board of surgeon approval, had to lose 5% of my weight, and do an online education course...and now I have to do my psych eval and pre-op education before I can even be considered for scheduling. I'm really happy that everyone seems to be really supportive and accepting here, and look forward to networking with everyone!
  9. I was sleeved 2 weeks ago to the day. I'm back at the office for the first time today, and I feel great! My first time back in work shoes... I walked 3 blocks downtown, and I've been thinking all over the office since 6am...my feet don't hurt AT ALL! AAAAAAAAAHH! Even if I never lose another ounce (which I know I will), my surgery was worth it if JUST for this. It feels so good to get my life back. Just thinking of all the things that used to being me joy, and how I'll be able to get to do them more has me bursting with joy. I suffered with Lupus and RA (steroids...) and to get even a portion of the weight off made a hell of a difference. Yay! Sleeves! LOL!
  10. I think it is great that you all have been able to have this done. I surely wish I would be able, but my insurance will not cover this procedsure even though my dr. wants me to have this done. I weight almost 400 lbs, 5'3, breathing difficulties, on oxygen, high B/P, diabetic. I asked my insurance company about it and they said no I asked even if this is for health reasons and they still say no . So now we hope every week we could win something on the lottery so I could have this done ha ha ha cause we sure can't afford to pay for this but hopefully someday I will be able so goodluck to all of you. Oh yes I have tried other ways of weight lose in case you were wondering . My husband and family love me, but I want to be healthier, take care all. goodluck all wvhjb44

    Not Getting Support

Yeah, ppl can be mean and jealous or just judgmental. Many ppl i told about the lap band did not listen to my explanation and tought it was by pass. Some ppl told me after the operation, well i didnt want to tell you, but my friend died on the o table, after hours of surgery! I said that is because it is not the same surgery At allllll!!!!!! Once they see you loosing weight, thwy will think differently. A woman at my work had it done 3 yrs ago, my mother didnt understand her And was so quick to say how dangerous it was. Finally, other ppl got it done, and the day i told my mother i wanted the surgery, she wS just waiting for me to bring it up, because her too thought ppl were succesfull. Another thing, our dr say not to tell too many ppl, because the weight loss is not that quick. I Am in this phase, i feel everyone is wAtching me

  13. Awesome News #1: Today, I woke up and stepped on the scale to finally see myself at the halfway point! I have lost 69 pounds and I have 69 to go to reach a normal BMI. This put a pretty big smile on my face since the scale hasn't been that friendly of late. Awesome News #2: I have signed up to run a 1/2 Marathon on January 30th with my husband. This is a pretty big goal for me. One of the reasons I finally decided to have surgery is that I signed up for a training program last year and was too big to keep up with the workouts. It was a wake-up call. Anyway, last Saturday was the official first meeting for the new year with the training program. I was SO nervous. Last year, I went thinking I would be able to run to only learn that I could barely walk the 1.5 miles (I was in serious denial about my weight). This year, I wanted so badly to "be a runner". I went out there and easily ran the 1.5 miles in 18 minutes with Hubs. It was AMAZING! Tonight's homework was to run for 20 minutes. Which I did. Without walking. For the first time since I was 18 years old. Kinda feeling like a rock star right now. Thanks for letting me share my excitement! Amanda
  14. You know, days like that are just going to happen, I think. You just have to dust yourself off, and do better tomorrow. Or better still, make up for it at dinner. Just have a light dinner, and maybe go for a walk or something. Get the kids out of the house and make them walk around the block with you. For me, Doc told me at my initial consult in the first week of October that he wanted to see me lose 5-10 lbs in the 3 months of pre-op. I'd accomplish this mostly by cutting out the liquid calories, including milk. Skim milk. MILK?!? Okay fine. Well, then I'm going all in. I set up my food tracker goal to stay under 1800 cal/day. Most days, I'm between 1000 and 1400. Every couple of week though, I'll have a day - a meal - where I just don't give a F and I'm going to enjoy that burger at Five Guys. I skip the fries, but still, that meal wrecks my goal for the day. No biggie though, because on my worst week - Thanks giving week I didn't even bother weighing in, but the week after - I was net zero from two weeks before. No loss. No gain. I could live with that. One of the reasons I don't care about the occasional Burger day is because I know that after being Sleeved, that won't even be an option. Another reason is because I've lost over 25 lbs in the time the doc wanted 5-10. I really want to do this. I think it's my best chance at long-term success. If I get denied though, plan B is to just keep doing what I'm doing. My point of this statement? Don't let this goal hinge on something outside of your control, like finances. Get busy.
  15. Hi Shannon, I have to say your story could be mine. I am married with two great kids. Have been on every diet, lose weight but can't keep it off. My husband loves me no matter what, but I had to do this for me first and formost, then for my family, to enjoy them again. I was banded on May 13th, and I have to say it has only been a month, but it so far was the best thing I have done. I have lost 20pds so far, and I feel great. I am not hungery all the time, it is amazing how my portion sizes changed and I am satisfied. I did not have to do a pre-op diet, and the liqued diet after was not that bad for me. Any time we make a major change in our life it is going to be scary and unsettling, but hang in there, and stick with the program. The band is just a tool, you still need to work at it. Your mind will still crave the things you wanted before now you have to change your thinking, and ask do I really need that. You will do great, have faith in yourself. Best of luck!
  16. O.T.R. I love the banana phone! Made me laugh. I myself was not diagnosed with sleep apnea, but if my surgery would have been denied due to no comorbidities, I would be excited to have this due to the increased probability of getting the tool to help me loose weight. not only that, sleep apnea causes all your internal organs to work extra extra hard, which leave you feeling tired and that alone increases hunger. It also causes difficulties with mental processes. you lack the ability to think clearly and therefore places your life in danger when driving a car. So I am so excited you found this out and the fact your taking the steps to get the tool of the sleeve to help lose those pesky pounds and live a healthier life. You are so lucky! So happy for you!

  18. My insurance required three months of supervised diet, and reported my weight from the start of my program when they filed my insurance packet. I had my nutrition visits doubled up with my bariatrician visits. Insurance paid everything.
  19. Hi there, is everyone required to do the 2wk Pre Op liquid diet, or is that only for patients that have to lose a lot of weight prior to having the surgery? :confused5:

    Fibromyalgia?

I take Celebrex for arthritis, my wife had severe bouts of FM when we met, we got it under control for a long time, now that she has gained weight and not lost very much I notice more frequent flare ups but with rest and meds it's still manageable, I think there is a definite correlation between weight, activity and FM, she recently got a part time job and has lost some weight and the flare ups are subsiding, but still takes meds.....

    Fibromyalgia?

I have fibromyalgia, and take Cymbalta for help with symptom relief. It helps but I certainly still have my share of ups and downs. I'm curious to know if any of my fellow fibro-sleevers have experienced changes/decreases in their pain levels since being sleeved? I'm pre-op, and really hoping my symptoms will decrease as my weight goes down! Thanks in advance ☺️
  22. In general weight loss slows at an increasing pace as you get closer to goal assuming diet/exercise regimen stay the same. It is possible you are breaking a plateau though and experiencing a whoosh. Dont expect it to last more than 2-3 weeks max before you settle into your new range.
  23. Hey everyone, My name is Dan, and I am new to this forum. I am 37 years old and have struggled with my weight for many years like many of you. I have already gone through the 6 mandatory months, of therapy and submitted my request to the insurance company "Auxiant" and was approved immediately to my surprise. I meet with my surgeon on the 11th of July and my surgery date is July 26th 2011.

What the heck?! My scale is KILLING me!

With less weight to lose, I have gotten into a rotation of no loss for 3 weeks then the next week, big weight loss. Right along with that time of the month. It is frustrating but just keep with it.

    Girls weekend wine !?

I don't think it's a good idea this early out, you're still healing. My doc recommends at least 3-6 months before alcohol. There can also be detrimental impact to your liver as it's working overtime due to rapid weight loss.
