2 Month Post-Op Drs. Appointment went Great!
Diane posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Whoot! Whoot! 2 months Post-Op Drs. appointment today and I am down 34 LBS. since my surgery on Feb. 14th, 2011. Asked my Dr. how he felt I was doing as far as losing weight goes. He said well let me put it this way, if you were a RNY patient I would have expected you to lose 33 LBS. in 3 months and you have lost surpassed that in only 2 months and you are a sleeve patient. I could've (hugged) my Dr. he made my week. Have to see him in a month so hopefully I will have some more off by then, cuz theres no stopping me now! LOLS! "I LOVE MY SLEEVE"! Hope everyone else has a GREAT WEEK also!! -
Are you kidding me?! Insurance won't cover it.
Sluggo replied to voodoo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
BCBS of AL will also pay but with the hassles and everything, running around for this eval, psych, etc. it's not worth it to me. Just a matter of personal choice on my end and refusing to be treated like I'm stupid. My new doc knows what to do and can make absolutely certain I am medically cleared for this surgery. I have a medical history of years of obesity but have not seen a doctor in 5 years (okay maybe I am stupid on that part or just plain lucky). I have no 3 year history of documented obesity. I've been on strict diet & exercise for 4 months but get no credit. I have to jump through hoops like a trained circus dog for 6 months then if I fall below qualifying BMI - I don't qualify. I am old and crabby and will just pay for it myself instead of putting up with their attempts to take away my last shred of dignity that remains. -
so scared i guess cuz its getting closer
FitatFifty replied to ladybashful's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Lady- Your in the right place for support and it's ok to be scared. Having the sleeve is life-altering and surgery does come with complications. That said, I am so happy that I have my sleeve now and wouldn't look back. It's working great for me. You didn't say how the person popped her staples, so its unknown if this occurred because of medical error or patient error. However, if you follow your doctor's diet you shouldn't "pop" your stapleline. After the surgery, you follow the diet progression and sip, sip, sip your liquids, and listen to your body. It will tell when you've had enough. It's also important to follow the pre-op diet so your liver shrinks and your surgeon has plenty of room to work. The good news is...you don't starve after surgery!! I was sleeved last thursday (9/16) and am on the liquid diet for two weeks. I sometimes feel "empty," especially in the morning, but never growling hungry. That's the beauty of having the fundus of your stomach--where the hormone ghrelin is prodcued-- removed. Good luck to you and keep checking in - Fit -

Oh My Goodness, Only a couple weeks to go!
annettexx replied to fefebutterfly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there My name is annette. I have only 4 days to go , and like you im pretty worried about the surgery too, I think this is probably normal. Im worried about the whole hospital stay and yes also about the life changes afterwards, I will certainly answer any questions you may have after I go through my surgery , Annette Hello my fellow Bandmates, I am so excited, nervous and slightly apprehensive at this time because this is a new chapter that is about to begin in my life. I have never taken a risk my whole life that would essentially change me from the inside out. I am excited because finally I get the chance to become healthy while losing weight. I am nervous because I am scared of surgery in general and the risk associated with it. I also feel a little apprehensive because this is a significant life change and I wonder will I be successful. I went to a support group last week and many said that this is hard work, but they all felt motivated to get healthy. It also encouraged me because I know that I can do it now and that everyones weight loss is different. Dr. Enochs wants to do a Gastric Plication in combination with the LapBand which means to fold the stomach in on itself and stitch it up. Gastric Plication (LGP) as a bariatric procedure. It promises to be a method that gives weight loss results as good as sleeve gastrectomy without the risks associated with that procedure. He says that I would require a liver reduction diet two weeks prior to surgery and he wont know until he opens me whether or not he can do it. This is basically an experimental procedure that is supposed to increase weight loss so I hope it works for me. Im just asking for your prayers and advice that may help me right after I am banded. Your comments will be appreciated. Thanks-FeFeButterfly <BR class=spacer_> -
Just Left Er! First Day Home After Surgery
5DogMa replied to mommamea's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I HATED my drain! It was in for almost 6 days and I went to the doctors office and demanded it out. I sat in my car in his parking lot 2 hours waiting for him to come in from the hospital. I threatened to take it out myself. It caused me a lot of pain. Most of the Fluid at that point was watery pink and clearish yellow. I couldn't stand to put suction back in the blub after I would empty it. The pain from the suction hurt all the way into my left back shoulder. So he slowly took it out after he made sure it was the drain and nothing else causing me so much pain. There was like one or two stiches holding in. They didn't hurt and it didn't hurt when he snipped them to remove the drain. He took it out very slowly and I could feel a trail of pain as it was leaving my body. Well, after he put me in the hospital for 3 days and 2 nights because I couldn't swallow for almost 3 days and I was dehydrated. I had additional swelling caused from untreated acid reflux since I couldn't take my Nexium and I believe the forced air into my esophagus from my CPAP machine made it worse. They had me trying to drink Mylanta for my acid relfux, but I couldn't swallow it. It was a bad week. 4 days out of hospital and I'm doing soooooo much better. I can actually drink again!!! YAY!!! So, how long has the drain been in? Maybe you can talk, or like me demand, it come out sooner than the doctors planned? Take the pain meds every 4 hours to help cope with the pain. I know what you're going through I was just there last week. Man, that sucks out loud!!! Hope you get help and feel better soon. Good Luck! -

Hi, I'm Ready To Get Started Saving My Life.

Wow just got kind of upsetting news. When I left the Dr office on Tuesday I'd gotten it into my head that it would only be 2-3 months before the surgery. I know that's what the nurse said but now I'm thinking she meant that's how long it takes to find out if the insurance will cover it. I called today and she said 4-6 visits with the Nutritionist BEFORE the surgery. I knew everyone had said it took a long time but thought maybe it had changed. I was all happy thinking I'd have it done over the summer (since I don't work in the summer) but now it looks like Oct. I'm a bit deflated but not much I can do. -

Considering Lap Band and found this forum, just saying hello
lasvegas1989 replied to iammagicmike's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey, i live in Orlando, so i don't know wassup in Detroit & i'm not familiar with HAP insurance. I'll tell u what i do know- i had to see a Nutritionist twice, a Psychiatrist twice, a sleep study, and my lap band doctor every month to see where i stood. i first started off by attending a lap band seminar... which started my whole journey. i only had to lose like 8 pounds if that to get approved; along with the approval of the nutritionist, the psyc & sleep study; which i all passed. it's sorta almost like waiting a year just because of appointments alone really- i got approved once i finished these things... i've mentioned in my own topic about mystery left shoulder pain, turns out a lot of ppl get it after the surgery. it's weird but i've had no complications other than this (knock on wood). i had my surgery March 29th 2013. i healed up after surgery in less than a week. the gas pain was probably the worst of it honestly. after u heal, u r able 2 eat normal again, or howeva u ate before-... usually. I was able to eat normal again after a week. i got my 1st fill and felt nothing, got my 2nd fill and i feel something but just a little. I get my 3rd fill in two weeks and i have a feeling that will be the "one" for me. i'm already eating less. that was the hardest part for me. i use to eat once a day, a big meal and that would be it. NOW, i follow "the program" but i'm telling ya, without this band, i probably would not have the discipline to do so. SOooo, i eat a small meal like 3 times a day. i drink a lot of Water but NOT with my food....... don't do that ever. You'll be sick as a dog. Your new smaller pouch can only handle "small amounts" unless ure chugging down smoothies or icecream, if your gunna do that, forget it, you'll keep the weight. and clearly u have to consider everything. it's not easy but as they say; the lap band really IS a tool and i'm just now honestly getting a handle on it and it's pretty cool. i know when i weigh in, in 2 weeks that i'll have lost some more weight WITH THE HELP OF THE BAND... 4real. if u can lose weight on ure own; go 4 it. I used to be really fit until i was in an auto accident which hurt my lower back and i gained a lot of weight over a 3 year time period because i was unable to be active; this in turn made my lower back worse, etc etc- Now, i'm feeling better, my back is better (thank gawd) and i have this "tool" 2 help me shed the pounds i've basically lost control of. I feel more in control now and relieved to top it off. i don't know ure story but best wishes. -
Just Starting My Journey. Hoping For Banding In Dec 2012
AnnetteT replied to pKay327's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Everyone is different, but in January I was on 7 insulin shots every day. I started my pre-op diet in February and had my lap band surgery on March 1, 2012. I put myself on the pre-op diet for the entire month instead of the 2 weeks my doctor recommended. I am happy to say that I have not had an insulin shot since mid February. I was told by my surgeon they would give me a precautionary dose of insulin the morning of my surgery, but when they checked my meter for the previous 2 weeks they said I didn't need it. I've been banded for 6 months and have still not taken any shots or pills for diabetes. When i had blood work a couple of months ago my doctor told me i am borderline of not being considered diabetic anymore. This journey save my life. I wish you luck and look forward to your progress updates. -
Exercise plan- 3 months out
Candygyrl replied to ML573663's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 10 weeks post op. At about 4 weeks i started going to the gym 1-2 times a week. Then I incresed it to 3 days a week by 6 weeks. By week 8 I was up to 4 days a week and last week I worked out 6 days. I come in and stretch for about 5-10 min I start with an ab machine and do about 3 sets of 10. then I do 30 min of cardio. Treadmill, elliptical, bike, arc whatever I choose. I may do one machine for 30min or 2 for 15 min. Then I do machines. I rotate and mix and match body parts like ab day or abs and arms or glutes etc. I may do 3 sets of 15 on a weight that i can handle with effort. Every since I've been doing that (increasing my workouts ) I've noticed steady movement on the scale. Some days i just do stretching and 30 min cardio. Some days I just do weights. I'm starting to really get into it and I have to remind myself not to overdo it. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App -

I'm new to the group and just had my surgery March 7th. I have been on a waiting list for at least 5 years. It took me 1 whole year to apply after the doctor gave me the papers. I was so scared. I got the call to start the liquid diet. The day of my surgery I thought I would be stressed seeing as I wasn't really ready for the Surgery when I aplied as well as its a life changing operation. Surprisingly I was crazy calm. I don't understand it. I get anxiety from time to time so I thought I would need someone to hold my hand through it. I guess I was truly ready to change my life. Pre-op I lost 15 pounds and to date (9 Days post) I have lost 27.8 pounds. It's so exciting. I'm now in the 200's that I have not seen in 3 years. Gained almost 50 pounds after deciding to quit smoking. [emoji377] Getting my protine intake is a struggle and truly hard work. Just never hungry and hiccups 24/7. Even in my sleep. [emoji99] NO regrets. I see a huge difference already and this is just the beginning of my new life. #Healthymindhealthyhearthealthybody [emoji307]MelissaEC[emoji307] -

Will I really have to give up my red wine?
Mojo56 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Surgery is about 3 weeks out. I have to do the liver reduction pre op diet and I know about the post op diet stages. Of course all WLS materials tell you " no alcohol " even later on. I know there's calories but at this stage of my life I really enjoy a glass or 2 of red wine on the weekend nights. Is this gonna be a problem long term? -
