You lost 55 pounds in six weeks (down 125 pounds total) and you’re questioning your decision? That’s an amazing weight loss already! Remember, the less you weigh, the slower the weight comes off. I definitely understand being obsessed with the scale but I encourage you to focus on NSVs also. And think about long-term goals. I know it’s going to take me about a year to lose 115 pounds, so I am taking it day by day. I recommend working with a bariatric therapist or seeking behavioral strategies from Overeaters Anonymous or a mindful eating program to learn to stop eating when full. It can be really tough especially when you love the food you’re eating. But, this is a journey and a battle and we have so many resources to help us. Good luck!

Hi Everyone, I am from Calgary too! I have been banded for 10 weeks now. Although I cannot boast big weight loss numbers yet, I am finally getting the hang of this new lifestyle and have had some really good NSV's of late. Good luck on your surgeries and keep up posted!

I know just how you feel. im also down 60 lbs and spent a lot of time in a swimsuit this summer. Also had a lot of pictures taken and i was pretty OK with them all. Great NSV -
Ok I have to ask what does NSV acutally mean? I've seen it used a few times and I've no clue :-)
-

Hey Gang! Well it's been a year. Hard to believe. I'm feeling great. I've lost 109 lbs from my top weight and 87lbs since surgery. I was hoping to have lost another 10 to 20 lbs but I don't think that is going to happen. Once I hit the weight I'm at now, I just totally stopped losing weight. I think our bodies know where we are suppose to be and just stop there. I'm ok if I don't lose anymore. I'm in a size 7/8 or 9/10 depending on the clothes. I pretty much eat whatever I want now but just try to be mindful of what I'm putting in my mouth. I can definitely eat more than I used to right after surgery. Right after surgery and up until about 5 or 6 months after I could eat about 1/3 cup of chili. I now can eat 1 cup. I still try to make protein my first choice and try to keep my carbs down to a minimum. I rarely eat bread now, so sandwhiches/burgers etc aren't part of my diet. Bread is one of the things I don't digest well now and I'm glad because it used to be one of my weaknesses. My tastes have definitely changed. I don't care for fried food at all. I used to love fried chicken or anything fried. Now, I hate the taste. Not because I can't eat it, but my tastes have honestly changed. I love salads and Dr. Aceves gave me the ok to eat them. For all of you contemplating or just beginning your journey. Life does become very normal again. Actually for the first time in 30 years I feel normal. I don't constnatly think about eating, I don't eat until I feel like I'm going to explode. I told my doc..."This must be what normal people feel like"! I've had some great NSV's over the last year. One that comes to mind is not being recognized more than once. A casual aquaintance asked me if I was "Barbara's" sister because I looked just like her. lol I thought he was joking, but he wasn't. I explained that I was "Barbara" just a smaller version. lol In all honestly, this surgery changed my life. I couldn't be happier. I would do it over in a heart beat. Best wishes to all my sleeve sisters and brothers! Barb

I started walking after the 1st month. I started out with a goal to walk 10,000 steps each day. Took many months, but I finally got to that point. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/9018/entry-31216-nsv-2-you-best-step-off-b-hatch/

This is my first time back to work and ordering with everyone. I felt really good being able to join in and not feel like I am so restricted. I just chose healthy and ate a small portion. We can get back to normal. This was a huge salad. I will be 7 weeks tomorrow. This is what I ordered Grilled Chick Salad w/ff feta This is what I ate from that. It took 35 min to eat.

!3 weeks after being banded and I saw my primary care Dr and she had be do some blood work. I just checked the results and all my numbers are in the normal range. My glucose is down to normal, A1C is down from diabetic to just pre-diabetic a whole point and a half, cholesterol is normal. Having my clothes become loose and had to get a smaller size bra. Even though I'm in a plateau, I'm seeing big results!

Need advice after 6 months
coops replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hiya Janine, congrats on your excellent weight loss to date! You are doing a great job and so far so good. Try not to compare yourself with others as it is a complete head blow. I used to do it all the time and it drove me crazy! You have rec'd some good advise already and I can only echo that. I am a REAL slow loser and I tick all the boxes 95% of the time (the remaining 5% I am just being human!) I am 10mths out now and since christmas I have lost just 14lb but I am still losing and as along as it is slow but sure I will be happy; over the last mth or so it has really got me down, but I have shifted my mindset and my focus is to remain positive and keep doing what I am doing. I just have to have confidence in my self and my sleeve. Patience needs to be my new friend...lol I exercise a lot now... I started exercising at 8weeks post op because I used to love the feeling and I wanted to get that part back into my life. I have achieved that now! I vary my exercise from walking to boxing and different things inbetween. Although I have a fair amount of weight left to go, I can feel the muscle underneath the fat now and that is a great NSV!! I am starting to feel strong again, if that makes sense. It sounds to me that you are doing everything right with your food intake; I agree with the water though... try to drink as much as you can; aim for about 64oz and anything more is a bonus! As far as exercise goes, do what you LIKE and what is comfortable with your body...once you get a taste for it and you start to see the benefits - especially in the way your clothes fit - you can up it and change it to suit your needs. Good luck and let us know how you get on... =] -
great nsv. it's nice when clothes fit the way they are supposed to.

So I went to my 6 week follow up apt this morning. I was worried they would tell me I wasn't loosing enough weight, but they said I was doing great. I have lost 18 lbs since surgery and 42 since starting the pre-op weight loss program in August. I was shocked at my measurements too. I have lost way more inches than I thought. My body fat percentage dropped 5 points too. Yesterday I had my first NSV, I fit into a pair of jeans I haven't been able to wear for almost 2 years! I am starting to feel this is worth it.

Lisa, you crack me up! This thread is what we need to stop taking ourselves so serriously! Kare, I loved your story about the pointers you gave your sons! My one and only is 8 years old, but I'll definitely have to remember that technique. I've been divorced for 5 years now, and have had two very short encounters since It's hard to feel good about yourself when all you see in the mirror is the things you want to change. You all have given me lots to think about! I'll be banded 10/10, and I'm looking forward to the future NSVs and improved self esteem I plan to spout! take care,

Happy Birthday. A button front is a great NSV. You look great by the way,

I have been a shower taker rather than a bath taker for many years. Don't normally take the time for long, decandent soaks in the tub. Also, when we moved into our current house four years ago, I discovered I really didn't fit in our tub. Even though it was a large whirlpool tub - when I got in it with the correct amount of Water (so the water didn't go into the overflow drain) there were large (pun intended) parts of me that couldn't get under the water level. Not a relaxing expererience. And the bathroom has way to many mirrors that replicated the sight of my too large self not fitting into the tub. I think I took two baths in that tub in four years. Well, I took a long, luxurious soak this afternoon. ALL PARTS OF ME fit under the water level! It was wonderful. I loved it! Needless to say - no pictures with this NSV. :-)

Surgery? Overall Summary. Yes Or No?
Rico replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its worth every single second of it People talk about the surgery being "life changing" and its very true .. People talk about how happy they are because they are achieving NSV's which is really cool too.. But you need to know that VSG is also a "life saving" procedure. I was on the verge of being a diabetic and have major heart disease but all of that disappeared with VSG. Good luck -
That is a great NSV! Well done!
