puttingme1st replied to boosh10's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Genepro!!! I can't say enough good about this. It's tasteless, mixes in anything and has 30g of protein. It's the best thing ever, especially when you are sick of other protein drinks -
Diet During First 2 weeks
BajanSleeve replied to California joe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@California joe There is tons of information on the internet to help guide you. It seems that each doctor recommends slightly different to the next but its generally the same. Mine was liquids only for 2 weeks and then by 3 weeks I could add more things like milk, yogurt, blended vegetables in my soups, a teaspoon of peanut butter etc. I am still eating pureed only foods at 5 weeks post surgery. I cant tolerate whole meats yet only blended in soups and I can eat very little solids like pasta or rice, only about 4 spoon fulls. From what I gather you just test yourself as the weeks go on as to what your body likes and can tolerate. I can't tolerate eggs at all and they really hurt when I try to eat them. You will learn what you can eat by what your body will tell you within the guidelines of each week. Some people tend to stay in one phase for longer than others because that is what is working for them By week 2 you should be adding protein powders to your drinks. I use the unflavoured protein which mixes into any liquids - your tea, drink, soup, etc. The protein makes you feel more satisfied and gives you more energy. I posted the link to the protein powder I use. It does not change the flavor of your food or drink https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/genepro-medical-grade-protein-powder-2nd-generation -
Appetite back with a vengance!
BajanSleeve replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Michelle. I use the genpro 2nd generation flavourless protein which I bought from this website actually. It is 'supposed' to have 30 grams of protein, no sugar or carbs but I posted this in another thread and someone posted links that the company that owns genpro was sued in 2015 for not having the claimed protein in the powder. All I can say is that I HOPE that since it still continues to be sold and since its the reboot (2nd generation) that they have rectified this. Which may be wishful thinking...…...sigh. I do not see that is possible for protein to have 58.7 calories per scoop but no carbs? but that is what it says https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/genepro-medical-grade-protein-powder-2nd-generation I cannot access high grade protein powders in Barbados. I bought all of my supplies ahead of my surgery which was overseas and brought them back with me. They do have protein powders here but they are high carb and taste very grainy and don't have the flavourless kind, only vanilla, strawberry, etc. -

Protein intake, struggling
ShelterDog64 replied to vsgbeauty13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I and a number of people in my support group from all over the US use GENEPRO and have done very well with it. I've lost 83 lbs and am 29 from goal. And individual MDs rarely do 'studies'; they may look at their patients observationally and see trends but using Genepro vs some other brand of Protein is not preventing people from losing weight. Not following an intelligent eating plan is what keeps people from losing weight. -
Every six hours would be a lot! I have not tried isopure, but if it is a clear, maybe you could mix it with some crystal light. I just started using genepro and it is nice to be able to mix it in my crystal light..that way I am getting protein and liquid at the same time:)

Im almost certain the reason they're allowed to label it 30g of protein is because it has two asterisks next to it, stating **equivalencies based on the clinical trial (which i linked above). Even GENEPRO doesnt claim it has 30g of protein, because it absolutely doesnt. It literally states equivalency based upon THEIR clinical trial (that they paid for). Im surprised more nutrition companies haven't employed this tactic Its really not a huge deal though, and likely would make little to no difference unless youre getting the majority/almost all of your protein from Genepro. But if youre taking 1 serving of the stuff a day, its a moot point imo

Thank you maybe people will quit being so critical of GENEPRO. I am a long time user and I love it.

Where do I find Genepro?
-
In order to substain weight loss success for long term we have to learn healthy interaction with food... GENEPRO isn't food. "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them" Einstein

I take Genepro and I love it... I out itin my V8 juice every morning . Cannot taste it or smell it!!!!

Ok I told you that I had ordered the Genepro well I did and I love it omg I have put it in my food and didn't even taste it was there. And the scoop is not huge like the others. And it comes with travel bags you have to look inside the bag for them. And 30 grams of protein for a whole scoop and its 15grams for a half of scoop. You can even mix it in coffee I put it in my milk when I'm making cereal all I can say is I love it! !!!!!

Help, please! Premier Protein shakes taste awful to me.. Need recommendations!
TEXASLADY52 replied to blissfulbeing's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Your taste does change. Right after surgery I could not stand Premier....could not gag them down....too thick...too chalky. Tried one the other day and decided it wasn't too bad after all and ended up buying three cases (because they were on sale for $19.99..LOL). Since my surgery up to this time...I used GENEPRO...it is oderless and tasteless...I mix it with Crystal Light....30 grams of Protein....I get it from Amazon. -

Never used any ready to drink shakes I didn't find any I liked. Purchased unjury chocolate flavor. Mix it with coconut almond milk in a shaker Took it on the go wherever I went. Heated up for hot cocoa. I went to IKEA and bought several metal tumbler cups with lids and they keep my drinks cold or hot first long as I take to drink them. And I use a thermos to take extra milk to work if I need it. I carry Genepro flavorless protein powder add to my water or oatmeal or crystal light. -
Best protein drinks? Clear, whey powders, and liquids?
puttingme1st replied to joliemarie88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Genepro protein has saved me since surgery as I could not handle the sweetness of the shakes. It's tasteless and mixes well into anything. -

I have used Genepro along with other protein powders since my surgery. I had my labs drawn at 6 months and my protein was excellent! I only get about 20 proteins with food since I cannot eat enough to get in 80 grams of protein. My way of thinking is if it wasn't working my protein levels would have been way low because I count it toward my daily protein intake. And I have had no hair loss or any other side effects. So for the me it WORKS! And I will continue the use of Genepro. And no I don't don't work for them nor am I paid by them. Just my experience. -

My doc has stated that my urine is flooded with protein on the second occasion she recommended I decrease my intake due to high ketones as well. We were testing due to extensive hair loss and they determined it was due to the anesthesia. I am also shocked that the Genepro has such a small serving size; but so far it seems to work well for me. -

Do you know what happens when you start removing hydrogen atoms from a molecule? You completely change what a thing is. Start with hydrogen peroxide....remove one hydrogen and you get Water....remove two more hydrogens and you make oxygen. Or start with formaldehyde....remove two hydrogens and you have carbon monoxide. Now think of what happens when you take protein molecules and start stripping off hydrogen atoms. What's left is certainly not protein. Your body responds to hydrogen peroxide and water and oxygen in very very different ways. You can take in all the oxygen you want...it's still not water. I would speculate that eating a molecule that used to be protein but has had its hydrogen molecules removed so it no longer resembles protein in taste, odor or physical properties is not protein. He said it himself, they turn baseballs into golf balls. But when it comes down to it, a golf ball is not a baseball. Just like GENEPRO is not protein, at least as far as human biochemistry is concerned. They STILL have not provided any scientific evidence that our bodies can utilize this "stable molecular structure". A simple pre and post protein serum level study would at least start to settle the controversy. But apparently the company's marketing ploys are so successful they don't actually need PROOF. -
GENEPRO by musclegen doesn't taste like anything!!!! I bought mine from lucky Vitamin.com with buying two bags it was $60 free shipping. It basically comes to $1 a day if you use 1 serving a day. It's 98 calories, 1 tablespoon serving. I add it to Greek yogurt so I get 42 grams of Protein in one sitting. (Some people think you can only absorb a certain amount of protein at once both my nutritionist and my surgeon told me that was absolutely ridiculous) at 42 grams I only have to eat 18 more grams of protein a day to reach my goal of 60. You can also get two samples of the Genepro off their website for $3.50. It's a fantastic product you can't beat!!!

How to add protein powder to jello?
RhondaHigdon replied to KarenH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks I've been looking everywhere for a more simple way to make the sugar free jello pudding pops. I actually purchased the Genepro? really wasn't sure which one to use, this is what GNC recommend. I have a quick question please. Can I use almond milk in place of the skim milk? I have watched so many different youtube videos that I think I heard somewhere that the almond milk will not work? Thanks so much in advance for you help. -
I used 3 different ones. Still the same. The taste is off for me. I used lean 25 from GNC, Nectar, and a special K one. They leave me bloated, extremely nauseated, and in pain. I'm going to try this genepro I read in here and see if that helps. It's supposed to be 30g protein in 15g serving and can be dissolved in cold and hot foods, liquids, is unflavored. I'm really hoping it works out for me.

Dumping for 4 days straight? Need advice.
Sunnyway replied to HajEddie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fruit juice is a no-no for ever more. It is liquid sugar. Use whole fruit and berries in your protein shakes. Whole fruits and berries contain fiber which helps metabolize carbohydrates. Using them eliminates the need for sugar and sugar substitutes. Once you are weaned off sugar and sugar substitutes, fruit will taste remarkably sweet! There are recipes for home-made protein drinks online and in bariatric cookbooks. Here is one from The Bariatric Diet Guide and Cookbook, called "The Elvis": It makes 12 oz. You will only be able to drink about 1 oz at a time at first. If you don't drink it all in one day, you can save it for the next. I like variety, so I would switch it with other flavors. 12 oz contains 31g protein, but you can add unflavored protein powder. One scoop of Genepro unflavored protein powder would add 30 g protein. 1/2 C plain Greek no-fat yogurt 1 large ripe banana 1/2 C ice 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder 1/4 C natural creamy peanut butter 1 small handful baby spinach Optional: 1 scoop unflavored protein powder In a high-speed blender, combine all ingredients. Blend for 2 to 5 minutes until smooth) NOTE: Be sure to use an all-natural peanut butter that contains only Peanuts and salt in the ingredients. The High Protein Bariatric Cookbook says: "The basics of a protein shake include about 1 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt, or 1 cup milk mixed with 1 tablespoon protein powder and either 1/2 cup frozen fruit or 1 tablespoon nut butter. Then for flavor ad about 1 teaspoon of extract, cocoa powder, and/or flavored sugar-free syrup or low- to no-calorie sweetener. ...If you make your own protein shakes, the flavor profiles are limitless, and you will know the ingredients going into them. Then, when you have symptoms, it will e easier to identify what the possible cause may be. However, there may be times when a prepackaged protein shake will be more convenient, so do what works for you and hooks you stuck ti tier nutrition goals." The Lifebridge Health website contains about 30 protein shake recipes. Google "make bariatric protein shakes" to find many more recipes. Your protein shakes count toward your daily fluid intake. During the first few weeks of recovery fluid intake is your most important priority. Consume protein as you can. "You MUST get your fluids in. You SHOULD meet your protein goals. If you CAN, take your vitamins." Matthew Weiner, MD, The Bariatric Diet Guide and Cookbook. -
HELP! PROTRIN SHAKES NAUSEATE ME
Thinkingthinner1109 replied to GEAUX SAINTS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am six months out and still rely on protein shakes. I drank them before surgery, however right after my surgery they made me nauseous. After about three weeks i tolerated them again and now i love them again. Without them I would never ever meet my protein goals. I use Unjury chocolate splendor and I also use flavorless Genepro. You can add Genepro to anything and not taste it. I will probably have to rely on protein shakes the rest of my life in order to obtain the required amount of protein. -
Week after surgery and I'm struggling
Bonines replied to Bonines's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks I'll check out genepro! I actually tried premier for the first time last week so it's okay for me now but now that you mention bloating. That could be the cause. I had one yesterday and was bloated and gassy all day and I think it's because of premier! I think I'm getting enough protein in now or close enough. I'm on pureed now and move up to soft solids in 4 days and I can't wait! These phases are a true test in patience and not trying to lose your mind with overthinking and anxiety. I keep trying to remind myself how far I've come. 3 weeks out from surgery and I lost 22lbs so I think I'm doing well now
