Finally... Hunger Hits at Week 7 Post Op!
Ssze1109 replied to mylighthouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Raw almonds, cheese, cottage cheese with unsweetened applesauce, sugar free pudding with GENEPRO Protein, olives, plain yogurt smoothie with fruit , and sugar free Popsicles are what kills cravings for me But I am also only 6 weeks so I haven't moved onto raw veggies yet. I am still in the exploratory phase like you. Still looking for ideas for meals Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Exercise after surgery. ALSO puree foods not filling me up

Are you allowed to mix in protein powder like Genepro or does your surgeon want you to get in all the protein through foods alone? -
It'll be interesting to see how the suit comes out. I couldn't watch the whole video, but found the following link with the info: http://www.law360.com/articles/865678/protein-powder-maker-accuses-rival-of-false-advertising The suit is brought by the makers of Syntrax alleging false advertising that is hurting their business. It goes to the heart of the technology claims by MuscleGen, and will be interesting to see if the evidence is sealed or left open to public inquiry. The suit is SI03 Inc. v. MuscleGen Research Inc. et al., suit number 1:16-cv-00274, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. SI03 brings claims for false advertising under the Lanham Act, as well as Missouri common-law claims for unfair competition and unjust enrichment. The company seeks an injunction barring MuscleGen from misleading advertising and an order requiring it to correct any false impressions consumers might have about GENEPRO, as well as trebled damages and profits, attorneys’ fees, and pre- and post-judgment interest. Of course, it'll potentially take years to wind its way through the court system, and will likely even settle out of court. But it'll be interesting. I've already looked at the raw data from the clinical trial MuscleGen cites, and though I see flaws in the construction of the study, I came to the conclusion that Genepro is likely at least as good as any other Protein powder and since it dissolves better than the others I've tried, I use it. I don't know if I'm getting as much protein as they claim, but the Protein Powder you use is better than the protein powder that sits in the tub because it clumps or changes the texture of the food unacceptably.

I recently converted to GENEPRO from premier Protein for this exact reason. Could not stomach another shake. I have put the unflavored Genepro in my crystal lite and it completely dissolved and I cannot taste it. It has made me getting my protein in sooo much easier. When mixing it I have read to be careful with hot temperatures and if cooler temperatures let it set and return to mix in. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have been using unjury Protein powder and I like it a lot. However, I have been seeing a lot of good things about GENEPRO and I just put in an order for it. I actually saved money with it, as Genepro has more protein in it per serving than Unjury does. I can't wait to try the Genepro. Also, I take the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews (chocolate), and I think they taste good and not chalky at all. When I went to my class pre-surgery, they gave out samples of Vitamins, and I actually liked the Bariatric Advantage chew in caramel the best. I would have bought that one, but my pharmacy was sold out.

Genepro Protein?

At this point I use GENEPRO to goose up my Protein levels if my daily protein is low. I love it because other Proteins give me horrific digestive ... issues. -
I use GENEPRO and LOVE it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I keep hearing about GENEPRO. Has anyone used it? I'm now gagging and having that feeling of throwing up with my Protein shakes, which I could tolerate before and I now need to get protein in. Another thing. Anyone had any Calcium citrate chews that don't taste like chalk? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have been using it and I've been at goal for almost 2 years. I didn't like unjury. In fact once I found GENEPRO I threw it away it was so bad. I use Genepro in my coffee every morning. It's my CYA in case I don't get enough Protein throughout the day. But I do try to always have protein with every meal. I also add it to my old fashion oatmeal so that I am getting a balance of carbs and protein and I need the oatmeal to keep me regular I have also added it to pancake mix as sometimes I crave banana pancakes. So in order to equal out the carbs I mix in the protein and you can't even tell. Good luck on your journey. I found a lot of useful information from this site along the way. ~LA

Protein Powder?!?
theantichick replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's a lively debate about whether the science is valid or not, but I've found that GENEPRO mixes up easier than the other brands I've tried, and if you believe the hype it's the equivalent of 30g of Protein in 1 tablespoon instead of 2 tablespoons. But even if you count it only as 15g having it mix up better is worth it to me. Beyond that, my next fave is Syntrax unflavored. -
I use GENEPRO for the most unscientific and unsophisticated reason: I can waltz right in to GNC near my house and buy it. I don't have to wait for it in the mail. I put it in EVERYTHING. Thank you very much for contributing to the conversation, @Sai. Wow, we've got an amazing array of peeps here on the forum. AND WOW, look at this conversation....people disagreeing in a civil and adult manner here on the BP forum. ***High fives all around*** Once again, @@LittleBill for Forum Dad.

I use GENEPRO because it works for me. I can't smell it or taste it and my labs have been fabulous so far. I only need my subset of 1 to be successful, so in my study, it's 100% effective

Im just curious if anyone has added GENEPRO with a regular liquid Protein shake. I keep reading everyone's struggle to get protein and was thinking about "fortifying" a shake with powder to increase protein per serving. Thoughts?? Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

Does your Dr say not to use Protein drinks now? I still use protein every day. I add GENEPRO to my coffee. MJy dr doesn't have a problem with using protein to help get all of your protein in. -
I've read the same stuff. They're not claiming that it's the same chemical structure. They're trying to explain in layman's terms how they're changing the chemical structure. They're describing stripping out everything but the protein chain and then binding the protein chain to less stuff but still stabilizing the protein chain and in the process making it more bioavailable. In trying to make it understandable to non scientists they've actually made their description not scientifically accurate. My scientist dad used to get driven crazy by this, he called it "simplification to the point of error". I've read some other documents by the company, and it appears to me they're claiming that their process of refining the Proteins reduces allergens and makes more of the protein bioavailable and that's what they're basing the claim on. I've also read the outcomes from the clinical trial. While I think there are some basic flaws in the study design, my conclusion based on the raw data from the study (available at clinical trials dot gov) is that Genepro is as good as any other Protein powder. I have found it to be easier to mix in more foods at more temperatures than other brands, so I'll stick with it. For me, it's like the question of which is better, a .380 or a 9mm? The answer is the one you'll actually carry. My 9mm is a much better weapon, but it's not concealable. My .380 is, so it's the one I'm more likely to actually have at hand. If another protein powder is better, but I won't use it because it's gritty or changes the texture too much, or won't dissolve well in hot liquids, is it really better? Exactly. I agree. That's why I use it too... Until I hear otherwise, I'm not changing. My blood work is perfect this past year so that's another reason. Also, I'm pretty sure they don't want to give out too much of their process details, not just to break it down in laymen's terms but also so other companies won't copy it. Maybe it's just simply denatured protein with the addition of Prohydrolase hehe. So even if they break the peptide bonds, and do change the structure, it still contains all the amino acids which our bodies still benefits nutritionally from (both through absorption and digestion). P.S. That's so cool your dad is a scientist. My dad was a surgeon before he passed away, and I tried that route but ended up as a scientist instead. I kept passing out watching his surgeries .

You've been paying attention to all my posts, haven't you? If given a choice between 9mm and .380, I always go with .45 ACP. Seriously, I appreciate the way you have laid it out. To continue the analogy, if this is the way they are going about it, they are really shooting themselves in the foot. I am not a scientist, but I am fairly well educated, and I know enough about chemistry and physics that when someone says they are shrinking molecules... I am working real hard at getting my protein from natural food. I realize there will be some Protein shakes and bars in my life, but I am reducing them as much as possible, just because of some of the, uhhh, side effects (especially the bars). I don't gain or lose anything in the Genepro discussion, and that makes it easy to keep an open mind. Thank you.

Genepro Protein?

@scipuobabe - I really like the unjury chicken broth but I the unflavored is terrible! It clumps up and tastes very strongly of whey to me. Sounds like people are liking GENEPRO unflavored? (Despite how many grams of Protein it may or may not have). Any other unflavored favorites? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I love GENEPRO! I mix it in crystal light. If you don't believe it has the 30 gram double up. If it makes you feel better. I love it because all the other proteins make me nauseous . This mixes in and has no taste at all.

Does anyone else have pain in their chest when they burp and stabbing stomach pain when they swallow liquids?

I was done on 12/21 and I have been setting a timer for 10-15 and I drink 1/2-1 oz at a time room temp is best, 4oz homemade chicken broth with GENEPRO Protein powder unflavored is working (I keep it on a cup warmer because it takes me 40-50 min to drink! Same pain but as my stomach swelling is going down it is getting better! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
And that's what it all comes down to, right? Believe what we want, based on the information available. You are telling me that GENEPRO is great because you do this stuff all day every day. The owner of Genepro claims it is great because he is shrinking molecules. My question now becomes, if what you are saying is accurate, then why isn't HE saying that? Why go on record with some fantastical claim? This is rhetorical of course. I do not expect you to work on Christmas, nor do I expect you to answer for someone else. And with all due respect, your response does not address my experience with the staff at my own medical program. I guess I am just talking to the wrong people or asking the wrong questions. Or maybe I just got lucky and I have the only ones out there who aren't doing the same research you say I need to do to come to the conclusion you have drawn. In any event, I do not need to go read a bunch of studies so I can feel comfortable about a product I don't really need or want. And it is not important enough for me to argue about. So this will be all for me on this as well.

@@LittleBill Study the clinical trials about prohydrolase and how enzymes help Protein absorption and make it more bioavailable. The point is, it doesn't matter if you eat 100000 g protein if the majority of it isn't absorbed or if they spike it with crap. Several top protein companies have been sued for protein spiking, GENEPRO has not been one of them. There are other companies like Nutricia where 2 T equal 15 g of hydrolyzed collagen protein and yet it has tons of other ingredients like Malic acid, Glycerin and a zillion other things plus the protein... Yet it's only 2T. It's far too simplistic to debate on purely a weight to weight argument concerning protein. The gist is the stability of the protein and bioavailability, and many other complex factors. Having said that, as I stated above, I am a nerdy scientist, and my day job is consulting Protein purification (mainly column chromatography) and analysis techniques, and I don't want to work on Christmas hehe... So I will stop here concerning Genepro. Believe what you want. ^^ Have a great and fun day <3. @@Alex Brecher Thank you for the clinical trial link! I wish I could be part of it. I've been thinking of sending this past year's lab reports to show my total protein, albumin results to them.
