    Not losing

First you have likely come in to the very common 3 week stall. Just stick with the program and stay off the scale for a week. Second your NUT should NOT be giving you goals like that. I never lost more than 10 to 15 pounds per month and at one year post-op, I am down 120 pounds from surgery day. It adds up. Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App
  2. Just keep doing what you are doing. The 3 week stall is completely normal. Nearly everyone goes through it. It will drop pretty rapidly after the stall is over. Many off them will come along the way. Follow your plan and stay off the scale for the week.

Happened to me at just 2 weeks out. Nothing to fret over, your body is just readjusting. I noticed a big drop in the tape measure during that first stall, so try paying more attention to that than the scale :)

  10. I had a 3 week stall myself. Then I'd lose a cpl and put 1 back on! What?! Lol. Finally down to just losing and consistently again. Down 47 total since surgery on 4-20 (23 pre opp) and first day back to work today. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    No weightloss

You are smack in the middle of the famous (or infamous perhaps) 3 week stall. You are doing everything right. It is totally normal. Your body just has to catch up. Ride it out. It will break soon and typically breaks by a pretty significant amount. in the meantime, stay of the scale for a week (if you can) and concentrate on your Protein, fluids and Vitamins. As @InnerSurferGirl says, "Embrace The Stall"!!

    Not losing, feeling discoraged

My 3 week stall lasted about 14 days. You'll get there, just keep following your plan. It's frustrating, but your body is working hard.
  13. I am almost 5 weeks out and have not lost weight in 12 days. My weight has actually gone up a pound. Has anyone else experienced this? I have read sbout the 3 week stall, but I thought it would have broke by now. I have upped my calories the last few days to see if that would help. Just looking for someone with a similar experience and suggestions on what I could do. Thanks Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App

    Advice please :-)

It is the famous 3 week stall. You have lost 15 pounds in 20 days! That is amazing! I actually gained coming out of the hospital due to the all the fluids (and imagine you did too) so given that, the loss is great! I thought I was a slow loser too and I will be 1 year out this week and down 120 pounds since surgery (145 total including pre-op diet). Those losses add up! Here are some suggestions: 1) Stay off the scale for a week (admittedly, I was never able to do that but just thought I would throw it out there ). Hopefully the stall will be broken in a week and you will see the loss and can decide how you want to weigh going forward. 2) Are you able to eat more than 1 meal per day? Seems that is a little low. If you are able to eat more than once, I would look in to having at least 2 (maybe 3) small meals per day at this stage. Take no longer than 30 minutes to eat. If you are not done with your 4 Tbsp in 30 minutes, put it away and have it at the next meal. Do you need some suggestions for foods other than fish or were you instructed to just have fish? 3) Are you able to drink something other than Optifast for shakes? I think there are some much better options - but it may depend on what your dr instructed and where you are located geographically.

Tips and advice for our newbies

@@jessjames Congratulations for changing your life for the better! You can do this! The absolute most important thing for you right now and for the next few days to a week is drinking your fluids and moving. You don't want to get dehydrated and land back in the hospital, And you don't want to get a blot clot from not moving. Take your pain meds if you need them and get some rest as well. The next week's will be tough but you will get thru them. Don't be surprised if you'll feel fine for the first couple of weeks then by week 3 or 4 you'll feel like you've been hit by a truck. It's like delayed fatigue or something. You may even feel nauseous and have diarrhea around that time too. And don't worry if you experience the infamous '3 week stall' It happens to many many wls patients - just keep calm and know that it is normal. Your body is confused and is just trying to rebuild and heal itself. If you have any questions or concerns or just need to talk please pm me or ask on this thread. Take care and welcome to the 'losers bench' Heather
  17. KristenLe I am consuming about 50-65 grams of Protein a day which is what I was advised to take. Thank you for the responses! This "3 week stall" is frustrating. I get very impatient lol
  18. Keep following your program. It's perfectly normal to stall for a couple of weeks starting at 3 weeks out. Don't give in to head hunger. Eating carbs will only make it harder -- they just make you crave more carbs. If you get hungry, eat more protein. If you aren't hungry enough to eat some chicken breast, you really aren't hungry. Stay off the scale for a couple of weeks and I bet the next time you get on you will find your stall broken. And I'm not kidding when I say it is normal -- use the search function here or even just do a general google search for something like "vsg 3 week stall" or "week three stall" or something like that. I'm not sure there is anything more universally experienced after weight loss surgery!
  19. Hello! I'm gonna go ahead and start out by saying yes I know stalls happen and yes I should embrace it and be patient and stick with my program etc etc etc I'm not here to complain about it, I'm here to ask if this is normal. I am 3.5 months post-op, and have been in a stall for the last couple of weeks or so. The scale has literally not moved one bit. The last few days I have had some constipation as well, even though I have been getting all my Protein in, as well as my Water. Before this I was pretty regular. I would be able to poop every morning, whether or not it was a satisfactory poop is a different story I can't help but wonder if the random constipation is related to the stall, and if anyone else experienced this as well? Oddly enough, I did not really experience much of a 3 week stall... so I guess this is my turn!

    Tired

My 2nd through 3rd week was rough! I was more tired and more nauseas. I think it is something about that magical 3rd week (my 3rd week after my hysterectomy was awful too!) And just a heads up if you haven't read it yet, there is a very infamous 3 week stall for most people, so stay off the scale or at least don't panic!
  21. The NP at my surgeons office has me at 1200 calories, not adding any back in with exercise. She said that anything under my body would think it's starving itself. Upping my calories helped me get out of a 3 week stall. I am 6 weeks post op.
  22. I had surgery on 5/3/16 & sadly, I haven't been losing weight since my surgery. It will be week 3 come Tuesday 5/24. And I'm starting to think my surgery was a failure in some way. My stats: 5'3" 26yrs old Starting weight 225 Surgery weight 208 5/4 Day after surgery 200 (I lost 8 pounds overnight) Current weight 198 From 5/4 till now (5/19) I've only lost 2 pounds(which happened after 10 days). I know everyone's body is different, but it seems impossible for me to not lose weight after surgery. I was expecting to lose weight each week, and then hit the 3 week stall like most people talk about. But instead I'm stalling the entire first 3 weeks. I'm eating about 300-450 calories a day. I'm just not hungry and I stop eating when I'm full. I'm having trouble getting in my 60-80g of Protein and I tend to get in 48-52 oz of fluids so I know I'm under. I'm trying to increase my protein & Fluid intake but it is difficult. Could this be why I'm not losing weight? Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you! NOT SURE WHATS GOING ON

Stalls are normal and necessary! We've all worried about them. I had more than average, most likely due to my PCOS, and I was here making similar posts, scared that I would be stuck at whatever weight I was forever. In fact, I have a 2-3 week stall every month, that's just my body's "normal". And yet, here I am, 9 months later and down 150 pounds since surgery. It all adds up, and worrying about it is just needless and adversely affects your mental and physical health anyway. Just keep up with your water intake, protein, and vitamins, and soon you'll feel silly for ever worrying about this.

    That 3 week stall tho!

@@tiffanymarie6997 - be prepared for the "3 week stall" to last more than a "week" as that happens as well. It just starts around the 3rd week and its duration is not the same for everyone. Jane

Yes you will get through it and probably have a good weight loss when you do break it. I had my surgery in Jan and I have had 3 stalls all ready. This last one lasted 2 weeks and then I dropped 12 pounds in the next 2 weeks.
