    ReSleeve - anyone had one??

Hi! Im super curious is it your bariatric surgeon that wants you to be resleeved or primary doctor? I ask because most dont offer this as an option unless you go self pay. & medical tourism then they will do whatever But thats just in the States... Have you ever considered asking about a conversion to RNY, DS or SIPS along with the resleeve? I dont know what caused your regain but it can be easy to eat around a sleeve's effecfiveness plus the risk of developing GERD may increase leading to the need for a conversion to a bypass anyway... Good luck whatever you choose 💚

    Multivitamins?

My dietician does not recommend flintstones, vitamin patches, or the vitamin kreurig thing. She recommend the bariatric advantage chewable and then 2 cal chews- i take the BA solo with iron and then 2 hours later a cal chew and then a few hours later another chew. She said your body won't obsorb the calcium if you take right after the pill. After having the sleeve I developed a horrible texture issue and couldn't do the chews. They were like a super thick flintstone and made me gag
  3. You probably can (check with your medical team) as the concern with drinking at meals is trying to avoid conflicts with the food that is going through, and to avoid washing things through more quickly than they should - you want to keep the food in your stomach as long as possible to avoid hunger afterwards. So, water with a liquid meal doesn't really do anything, but it would be best to avoid it just from the perspective of practicing good bariatric habits.

    Non Scale Victories

I have so many non-scale victories--which is fortunate since I only lost 3.5 pounds in the past month. I am, however, only 17 pounds from my goal weight (maybe I should just change my goal??). So, my non scale victories are as follows: 1. I went from wearing size 44 pants on December 1 to now wearing 32 pants! 2. One of the other kid's mom at my daughter's nursery that I used to talk to all the time saw me this past weekend and introduced herself as if she had never talked to me before. She didn't recognize me!! 4. I had to buy slim fit shirts and suits because standard fit is too loose around my waist. 5. My wife says I am not snoring anymore!! 6. I am no longer taking medication for T2DM, high blood pressure or high triglycerides, 7. My surgeon asked me if I would be willing to be in advertisement where I show my before and after and talk about how bariatric surgery changed my life (haven't decided if I want to do that though). 8. Most importantly, I feel great. I have loads of energy and I am not embarrassed of my appearance or being the fat guy in the room. I am actually looking forward to wearing a bathing suit this summer!! I feel like i didn't just lose weight, but like I turned the clock back 15 years. Even if I don't lose another pound, I am thrilled with the results. My only regret is not having had the surgery sooner.

    I Got The "Foamies" Today

Grady Cat I hope you can land back on all 4 paws and keep moving along. I started today in such a good, happy mood, then I threw up a while ago and I feel like the Storm Clouds are gathering around me again. Deluded myself that I was learning and succeeding at this Bariatric Life and here I go again. More than a little sad at this turn of affairs.😢😭😪👈😢👉

    gerd/vomiting and bypass

Well I'm vomiting again, my mind. wrote a check my body was loathe to honor. I made something that really sounded so good, smelled good, didn't even taste all that bad , 2 tablespoons worth and back up it came. PCP told me yesterday I was looking good, still proud of my Weight loss, well he need not take credit, I am the one leading the life, trying to stay nourished on my miniscule amounts of protein and veggies when I can. Oh I do take my vitamins, my minerals, my sundry other meds. I'm not so much regretful as innately amazed I am not eating 1/3 to 1/2 C of varied foods at 7 months. I swear I am not going to look at the before & after food postings, then like a person driving by an traffic accident, I just have to look, shake my head , cry a little for what I saw. and then just move on. And every time I visit the Bariatric Clinic they give me a summary stating I am doing well for the month I am in, at least that was on the 5 month paper, I don't have an appointment with the Doctor until April 30th, that's on the verge of 8 months. I do have an EGJ scheduled for April 12th, I do hope it actually is Dr Noria, January 25th I was palmed off on a Resident, senior as he might be, it was not the same and I did not glean the information I was seeking. He was proud of stretching my stomal opening, I was more concerned about the state of my ulcerations, am I healing or not? Besides my stoma has a habit of narrowing back down, did it twice for Dr Noria. So stretching without a stent is an exercise in futility. And lastly I felt he had a flippant attitude, I am serious regarding my body. May joke other places but this is my very life we are dealing with.

    Puree options limited please help

I’m not sure if you’re on Pinterest but here’s a link to a page for bariatric purée stage recipes https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjbsdShsqLhAhWj44MKHUomDFgQzPwBegQIARAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.com%2Ffoodcoachme%2Fbariatric-pureed-soft-recipes%2F&psig=AOvVaw3EMGyz8Nbj-ZhZuiBPu78u&ust=1553778541895784 A month is a long time but you can do this !! Believe it or not you will get to the point where you are not constantly thinking about food and start to use it for just what it’s intended for, actual fuel for our bodies. I TOTALLY get it . I really do! As well as I thought I was prepared for the battle of my head hunger , I wasn’t. Give yourself time to adjust and just take it one step at a time. Good luck and keep reaching out for support 👍🏻

    Puree options limited please help

I honestly don't get the angst of your post in looking at your selections? I'm so sorry. I would truly encourage you to start working on reframing your reality and doing head work to work through the grief you are clearly feeling about the changes you chose to make to your body and how that is going to affect your eating. You don't see this now, but a year from now when you are 50-100lbs lighter, your life will be TOTALLY different! I promise. You will be able to feel how fortunate this is! I sometimes think surgeon's give you these limits not only to protect your new anatomy (you can do serious damage by challenging it too early), but also because they want us to break the cycle of using food for in a disordered pattern and putting too much importance on meal variability and too much on "food being good/yummy/comforty." In this early time you have the opportunity to lose THE MOST WEIGHT IN A MONTH you will lose in all of your WLS history. We lose the most weight in the first 2 months following surgery. So please please embrace this time. I swear, it gets SO much better if you relax into it, keep it simple, measure and log everything, but just keep it simple. You know? Keep it low low cal/meet your protein goals/keep carbs and crap out of it. I didn't have to do puree. I had to do soft foods that were chewed to puree. But here are things that would fit your reqs. All you have to do is put em in a food processor (mini chopper) and bam you're there. 1. Eggface Ricotta Bake (google it) 2. Green bean casserole (bariatric style) with canned chicken 3. Tuna casserole (bariatric style) with green beans instead of peas 4. Mexican beef with cheese or beans with cheese (too carby for me--made me hungry too soon after eating) 5. Broccoli, spinach or cauliflower pureed with light cream cheese, lemon juice, s/p/g (steam the crap out of it first) 6. Smashed cauliflower with bacon and green onions (put in a food processor) 7,. Any soup or chili made bariatric style 8. Fish in foil pouches with lemon and spices/herbs. 9. zucchini sauteed with onion, tomatoes and herbs and pureed--can add any kind of lean meat. 10. yogurt/cottage cheese blends with berries. I just ate the same things all the time in rotation usually. And the time went by quickly. Hang in there. The time does pass quickly.
  12. You'd have to check your specific UHC policy. Bariatrics are usually an "add-on" to the policies that employers choose to allow for their employees or not.

    Approval

I had my Bariatric History Appointment today and was told I am an excellent candidate for the RNY Surgery. I have to see a nutritionist, and phycologist. I also have to have an EGD and do a sleep study. The Dr. says we can most likely pick the surgery date on April 16th at my next appointment with him. SUPER EXCITED to start my lifestyle change. 😍
  14. I am not sure, but doesn’t Bariatric Pal have a facility in Mexico?
  15. So i've searched & read many of the previous "stall" threads but none seem to be similar to my issue. My HW was 387, SW 338(sleeved on 6/20/18), CW 250lbs. My macros are 1000-1200cals depending on lifting days, 90-110g protein, 50-60g carb per day. I'm lifting heavy 4 days per week with 45min HIIT cardio 5-6x/week. Per Apple Watch I'm burning between 4500-5500 cals per day so clearly burning 3x what I take in. My nut says I am were I need to be macro wise but the scale is just not friggin moving. My goal is cutting another 40lbs. I wonder if I am just not getting enough calories but don't think I can eat more. I don't want to lose any muscle mass, just burn fat. I've spoken with a few trainers who train bodybuilders & they think I am not getting enough calories but they admittedly don't have experience with bariatric surgery. The flip side is I've made a lot of progress and body has changed. I've dropped several sizes(4x to 2x), 50" waist to 40" but have more to go. Seeing people with better numbers and doing much less work is getting very frustrating. My question is- has anyone had a lengthy stall like this and was working out heavy? Was upping calories the answer? Was lowering your macros the answer? and were you able to maintain your muscle mass? TIA!

    ❤MARCH 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I can give you three right now without any straining, while I lay in my bed this fine March Morming! #4 A Happy Ch8ldhood memory would have to be sitting on my Daddy's shoulders at parades. It seems like my little town had parades often, Easter, Memorial Dayn 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, a Thanksgiving/Christmas plus anytime,a Local son or Daughter did anything noteworthy. I felt like I was an Empress, or at least Princess of the World up high when I could watch everything. It gets boring looking at adults rest ends all the time. #5-A friend who really knows me. That would be my friend Robin. When I finally got up the courage to tell someone I was diagnosed as high functioning Autistic ( Aspergers). After years of feeling and being told You aren't right, or defective, it was both scary and liberating to get an official diagnosis. And Robin was the second person I admitted/ came out to. First one said " Funny , You don't look that retarded!" And it is not at all the same thing. Robin smiled sweetly and said " I have known for years, I just figured You didn't want t9 talk about it but that someday you would!" I cried a little, she hugged me,because at that moment I knew somebody knew me as I was and loved me any way! And what a Beautiful Gift that was for me. And lastly what would I tell the 2018 Frustr8? Hang tough, stay striving towards your target. That seminar you attended on March 9th 2018 will bear you something wonderful . O.S.U. will want and accept you as a Bariatric Candidate. And everyone on every level will be kind and welcoming. I know you are impatient and worried you will never receive your surgery, after all you have been trying since August 2015, put that Evil Former Program and the heartaches it caused you behind you, you may even grow to Forgive the Rotten Ex-Surgeon that turned you down after going through his program not once but twice. Oh you may never totally forget but you'll forgive him enough for closure. And as you finish up requirements this one requested you still will feel wanted and incrediblely like you've "come, home "after a l9ng journey away, maybe similar to the Prodigal Son in the Bible. And in due time you will meet your new surgeon, Bradley J Needleman MD, even his name sounds impressive and this is a Cookie who does know his stuff, he wouldn't have become Chief of Bariatric Medicine and Metabolic Weight Loss without it. He will not find you undeserving, will believe you have the commitment to see it through and best of all He Will Not Find You Too Old. And on September 5th at 7 AM you will receive the surgery you are seeking. And he will not leave huge wounds on you, you will even peek when you wake up to make sure you had surgery after all, because until that moment you still will fear somehow the surgery will be aborted. And your recovery will start out good, but when trials come you will prevail over them. Oh it will be an odd type recovery but as the saying goes YOU HAVE TO BE AN ODD NUMBER TO BE NUMBER ONE! And you didn't start this undertaking to be run- of - the mill but rather outstanding. And you will lose the weight Cabbage Water, diets and all the diet pill interventions. could not do for you. And You are worthy of love for you are incredibly strong. I will be waiting in 2019 until you rejoin me and we display an United front to the outside world! So up on your pony Cowgirl, this is a race you can win!😜👍🌈

    reasons for insurance to deny?

My coordinator told me that a lot of denials are based on the verbiage in the medical records and missing information. If you have a good bariatric coordinator that knows what the insurance companies are looking for then you probably don't need to worry.
  19. Many bariatric surgeon's are also general surgeon's or gastroenterologists, good place also is a State university or Land Grant college, they tend to be also teaching hospitals and usually more likely to accept Medicaid patients. I believe your searchs are going find you some-- one very good! I had my surgery with Medicare primaty, Medicaid secondary, remarkedly few hoops to jump through. Don't give up, you're all ⭐Texans and you've got grit!😜👍
  20. I had a revision from my crapband to MGB in 09/17. I went the Bariatric Pal Hospital in Tijuana and Dr Illan was my surgeon. My experience was wonderful. Better care than I ever got in the US. My weightloss has stalled some the last few months but that is because I have been slacking on making good food choices and exercising. I haven't gained, but I am on a plateau. I lost just over 100 lbs the first year. It is soooo much better than the crapband. I suffered constantly before. Getting stuck, unable to eat healthy, fills and unfills. What a nightmare! The MGB is exactly what I was hoping the crapband was going to be. I can no longer eat ice cream. It makes me nauseous. And I can eat healthy proteins in moderation. My hunger is pretty much nonexistent. Just that pesky head hunger! Always a work in progress. :)

6 month post op, mental stall

Fantastic weight loss and I’m sorry your struggling. Weight loss slows and restriction becomes less as you progress out from surgery. You’re not alone and this is normal. Just because we can eat more does not mean we have to eat over our weight loss macros and calories. Strategies to fill the extra space and help with hunger. (log food – stay in your calories and macros) Eat dense protein. (nothing soft) Eat as much veggies until full with your protein (Keeps your calories low and fills the extra space) If you are adding in extra carbs/sugar they will make you crave them more - Get them out of the house and detox Find bariatric recipes to get out of food ruts. Healthy should be flavorful. Keep healthy sweet and salty foods in the house
  22. I used Baritastic App on my phone to track my progress and keep a food log and journal. This is going to be an amazing journey, but it's not going to be easy. But, I am almost six months out and it was the best decision I have ever made. I also got the Gastric Sleeve Bariatric Cookbook by Sarah Kent. It was eventually extremely helpful when I was able to eat more varieties of food. Congratulations and best of luck. You are going to do great!

    Alcohol

I encourage you to do some research on the connection between alcohalism and Bariatric patients. For some reason, it's not something people seem to want to discuss much around here, but it's a major problem and something you should be on the look out for...
  24. RickM

    Alcohol

I didn't order any alcohol in bars or anywhere while losing as that was the Cardinal sin for our program (doc was also a liver transplant specialist and didn't want any of his bariatric patients coming back onto his transplant table - seriously).

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

    1. I am overwhelmed by clothes shopping. I have literally nothing to wear for spring or summer, I have an amazing trip planned for Hawaii and I want to look great in my clothes but keep going in stores and not buying anything. Do they have nude beaches??? Hope so or else I’m gonna spend all of Hawaii in jail. 2. I’ve realized that every single pound from this point forward is going to come off only with really hard work and dedication. I feel mixed about that. I still want to lose 30 and that seems ... challenging. 3. I worry that I am a “bad” Bariatric patient because I eat all kinds of foods. 4. My neck looks just ridiculous. Lol. It looks like it is melting off. 5. I am y’all 5’9” and super limber and sometimes Iately I feel like a praying mantis with my long long legs. 6. Sex is way more fun lately. (5 and 6 kind of related) 7. My feet shrunk from an 11 to a 10 and a whole shoe world has opened to me. 8. My love for coffee has deepened to an alarming level. It is probably not the healthiest. But as a night shift RN in an ICU and a mom to 3 young kids, people will have to pry the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee with cream and Splenda from my cold, my freezing icy numb cold dead hands.
