2weeks post sleeve, bad left side pain, almost zero weightloss
LoveFood replied to Kbrown1977's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you taking omeprazole? I'm on 20 milligrams twice a day. My heartburn and acid was bad for a few days until it started working. Now it's fine. I'm not focusing on 3 meals a day until I'm eating actual normal food. I can only eat a tablespoon at a time so right now I eat a spoonful of whatever mush I can, whenever I get that grumbly feeling. I've made a bunch of different purees to choose from, including hummus, guacamole, tuna and crab salad, pureed cheese with balsamic, yogurt, pudding, etc. I'll worry about 3 healthy meals once my stomach is healed and I can tolerate regular food. Plus 2 protein dhakes a day (30 grams each), and as much liquids as I can. -
I started Dr. Pronces three day yogurt diet this morning. I have learned that plain yogurt is nasty. Does anyone have any ideas to make this stuff more palatable. I asked Trish and she said needs to be plain. no fruit.

What Can I Eat In The Mushy Stage?
jen_1381 replied to secondchancesally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With my program it was anything pureed. A few of my favorites: Tuna fish, low fat mayo (just enough for consistency), and a pinch of shreded cheese pureed. Low fat refried Beans, salsa, and a pinch of cheese pureed and heated. chicken and low fat vegetable flavored cream cheese pureed and heated. Scrambled eggs, salsa, and a pinch of cheese pureed and heated. Also, things like peaches, pears, green beans, carrots, etc puree pretty good. Greek Yogurt was a staple at this stage. Good luck! -
Question for the slow losers
beachgurl84 replied to AuriP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok that doesn't sound too different from me. I usually have a Protein shake a day. Either an Isopoure w/40 grams or Criosport with 32 grams. Sometimes, if I have a sweet craving I'll have a GNC lean mint layer cake with 25 grams. But never more than one a day. On heavy workout days I'll usually have a Protein Bar as well. Other than that I have stocked up on baby bel cheeses and my husband loves them for Snacks too. I'm right there with you on not enjoying the hubby's sides because they are usually potato something. I do a greek yogurt for breakfast, cream in my coffee, and some kind of meat for dinner. Oh, and usually like tuna salad or chicken salad for lunch. I just looked back through MFP diary and it looks like I usually get around 80. If my calories for the day allow it, I'll usually have a vegetable at some point during the day. I hate to admit it but grazing is a weakness of mine. So I try to keep only things on hand that won't hinder me if I don't catch myself. And I struggle to get fluids because I'm just sick of Water, lol. -
What is the new normal for bowl movements
FluffyChix replied to tayna40's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
LOL, my old normal post surg = Rosemary's Baby bad deliveries once every 4-5 days. Holy crap! So bad. Since adding lots and lots of psyllium fiber + daily "meds" + lots of veg + water, I get big fluffy, painless, 1lb poops daily. It's my "NEW NORMAL" and I owe it all to my daily plan. I never deviate from it: Miralax 17g in black decaff coffee 2 Colace stool softeners 11g Now Brand whole psyllium husks divided into 2 cups of room temp Cinnamon Apple Spice Tea (decaff) 1/2c Greek yogurt with live cultures 1 GG Brancrisp Fiber Cracker + 1 tbsp almond butter each night before bed 100+oz plain water, plain decaff coffee, plain decaff green tea, plain matcha It is totes worth doing this! The psyllium husks and fiber cracker fluff up the poop and the Greek yogurt with cultures along with the psyllium is helping to repair my gut biome. The water is super duper important otherwise you make concrete. -
I'll try the eating more solid food tomorrow and see how it goes. I have trouble eating period at work...thats why I usually go for yogurt there. If I get busy and eat too fast yogurt doesn't cause problems.
-
I don't use protein powders, I drink Myoplex shakes. I know a lot of people swear by the powders but I would rather get my protein from things like yogurt and cottage cheese. I am a vegetarian, so my protein intake in general is different. I am fasting today. I have to say it isn't any harder or easier than years past. Last year I was still nursing on Tisha b'Av and that was actually more difficult!

I asked my doc specifically and from day one he said non-fat milk was fine. I was SO glad because that's the base of my Protein shakes and I was worried I would have to do without those. They are my main salvation!!! I'm doing better as well. The Fourth was indeed hard with all the lovely smells coming from the neighbors yards. I went to a baseball game and EVERYTHING smelled good but when I actually looked at the food, it was like "bleah...no way". So that's good. My friend INSISTED we needed to get ice cream after the game and I didn't want to. I ended up buying a non-fat yogurt and not even eating it. It's still in my freezer. THAT IS A HUGE CHANGE FOR ME!!! I'm usually a little b*tch for ice cream!! Also doing better. Back at work after a week and two days off. It feels SO weird to be back at work! Oh well, gotta do it if I'm going to pay off this surgery. Don't want them to come reposses my band!! The bloat is gone, I lost 13 lbs REALLY fast and then my body seems to have put on the brakes, which is okay. Thirteen pounds in one week is pretty hard on a body. Still have a bad burning next to my port and it hurts if I sit for too long (was in a bit of agony at the baseball game.....also when something good would happen and I'd yell real loud...OUCH). Overall doing good. Having ZERO trouble getting liquids down, even thick liquids. I can see how I'm going to need a fill sooner rather than later!!

Would love a buddy - In Chicago area but anywhere is fine!
withtheband posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone! I'm Jason and I'd like to join the group. Here's the twist. I was banded in December 2009. Issue is that it was completely devoid of any saline and was never filled until 2 days ago. The surgeon believed waiting 6 months before the first fill and in that time I lost my job and also my insurance. I'm thankful that I found a new job last summer and I love it, but it's a small company and the insurance covers NOTHING regarding the lap bands, not fills, not the doctor's visit, not even the cup of Water they give you when you walk out the door. So, I'm finally filled. I have the "big" lap band (14cc's I think) and he put 5.5 cc's in there under a fluroscope. He said with that, I should feel very uncomfortable if I continue to eat like I've been. 2 nights before I went to a Sushi buffet and closed the place down. I've had ZERO restriction and could eat unlimited amounts of anything. Right now I'm on yogurt and pudding and tomorrow I can start with blended stuff. (or just scrambled eggs since there's NO WAY I'm blending food) Sad thing is that the day of surgery I weiged 290. The post op, mostly liquid and no carb diet brought me down to 251 at my lowest in March 2010. As of 2 days ago I was 319. That's a gain of 68 pounds since surgery. Needless to say, I'm ashamed. I've been able to save up over the last year and have found a new surgon who will take credit cards so I'm paying for follow up myself. This is motivator #2 or 3 for me. So for all intents and purposes, it's like I was just banded but worse because I don't remember the protocol very well. I found a new surgeon. I finally have Fluid in my band, and I'm scared to death of what lies ahead. The new sugeon's support groups start up again in 3 weeks so this site is all I've got. Please adopt me. I have to succeed. I'm 36 years old, fat, diabetic. have apnea and a 3 year old daughter I want to be around for. Help....please. Thanks Jason -
@@future Mrs - First, let me be clear. I am not at all saying these are necessarily the healthiest things to be eating, but honestly they aren't too bad. It will cure your wing craving though.... Oh and just eat the dip with a fork. Tiny bites at first. I had a tough time with shredded chicken early on. Buffalo Chicken salad (apologies to the person who posted this originally - I didn't write down the name so I cannot give credit where credit is due!) Shredded chicken breast, about 9 oz. (I usually poach my own, but I've also used canned or rotisserie chicken) 2 oz. crumbled blue cheese 5.3 oz container plain Greek yogurt chopped celery/onion garlic powder/dried dill/S&P to taste Frank's Red Hot until it's at your preferred spice level (as @@Valentina said - take it easy on this until you know if you will tolerate spicy) Buffalo Chicken Hot Dip - not sure where I got this one - probably here also - I have taken this one to parties and it was a hit. No one even knew it had lower fat options in it. • 2 cups Chicken Breast, chopped • 1/2 cup Reduced Fat Blue Cheese Crumbles, crumbled • 6 oz 0% Yogurt • 8 oz Cream Cheese 1/3 Less Fat • 1 tbsp The Original Ranch Salad Dressing & Seasoning Powdered Mix • 1/2 cup Low-moisture Part-skim Sliced Mozzarella Cheese, shredded • 1/2 cup Red Hot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce Oh also - not buffalo flavored but if you like lasagna, check out the Ricotta Bake from theworldaccordingtoeggface.com. It is to die for! Basically lasagna without noodles! http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html

Looking for high protein/low calorie foods in small portions
Phranp replied to Phranp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks gMommy. I can't do the greek yogurt ... lactose intolerant. But I can do a little string cheese ... maybe once a day. The chicken strips are good idea too. I need to buy some garbanzo beans ... I had forgotten all about them ... I love them in a salad. Great ideas, thanks! ~Fran -
6 weeks will fly by, especially with the holidays coming up! My pre op diet is super easy. Three days of Water and yogurt. They say you can do ten days Protein shakes and chicken and salads prior to the three days pre op. Honesty I feel like I do that most days, although lately it's been bad with all the holiday treats, but I'll prob try and mostly stick to that, starting Boxing Day, but definitely starting Jan 1 I'll follow that for the six days before my yogurt diet. I am going to Mexico. Wish there was an option in Canada or the US but with my bmi at 29, I don't even qualify for the few docs that will do the surgery on bmis of 30. And I just can't justify spending triple or quadruple the money if the doc in Mexico is rated just as good if not better. My nerves haven't kicked in too much yet. Sometimes I read a story of someone who's had a bad experience and I wonder if I'm making the right decision, but that quickly disappears. I'm sure closer to and the day of I'll be a wreck. My husband is not coming with me, but my parents will be in San Diego at the same time so thinking they'll drive down the day of surgery just to make sure there's no serious complications. They have company flying into San Diego the next day so they'll only be able to stay one night, but they'll be close by and Trish my coordinator is suppose to be the best and surprisingly I'm not too worried about being alone.

@ -- definitely happy to share the FULL story!! almost 3 weeks post op and i have to say that i think i've been VERY lucky so far, so i'm not really the best person to give the full scope of what recovery can be like. a lot of other people who got sleeved the same time as me are having a much harder time, so i'd recommend reading the different forums (for example there's one for people sleeved 10/14, 10/19, etc.) to get a sense of how people progress in their recovery. for me, the 2 days in the hospital were pretty tough. i had a lot of pain the first day and was CRAZY thirsty, the second day i had nausea and struggled to drink the required amount. the first week i felt generally ok but just very very tired - lots of naps. around 1 week post op i had a crazy allergic reaction -- big red circles around each of my incision sites that itched like CRAZY. i felt like i was going to claw my skin off!!! no consensus on what the allergen was - maybe the surgical glue, maybe the dried blood inside, but in any case it made for a rough, sleepless couple days. i haven't had really any problems getting down Protein or Water or (just this week) cottage cheese/yogurt/apple sauce so that's good. and the weight has been coming off fast and steady. i know there is a long road ahead still -- i will have stalls and maintenance is something i have never once succeeded at, so i know that will be a whole separate adjustment. but i already feel amazing. truly. my sleep apnea has clearly gone away since i am WIDE AWAKE at work for the first time in years. i can feel the lost weight when i walk, there's just a lightness that feels awesome. and the depression that pushed me to do the surgery in the first place is easing up in a major major way. life just seems very bright! one thing i keep reminding myself of is that i have lost all the weight in the past (with doctor-supervised Protein shake diets) and as soon as i was "done" (met goal), i just stopped with the program. didn't continue getting support from the doctors or keeping up with group sessions or therapy. and so i gained it all back and then some both times. so while i am totally basking in my current success, i'm trying to remind myself that this is a different game -- a PERMANENT change, vs. a couple months of shakes. ok that was a very long-winded rant. i will definitely keep you all updated - its nice to be able to share progress here. i haven't had any negative experiences in other forums but i would hesitate to talk numbers given where other people are at and where they started.

I'll definitely look into Isopure and Unjyry, thanks guys! - that's a great idea to add it into soup and yogurt too. I did try adding some off brand "grass-fed protein" (not sure, it was the only flavorless protein I could find when I first had surgery so we grabbed it so I could add it to clear liquids) but it clumped terribly in the soup. I did try some premier mixed with coffee, but I'm not a big fan of coffee so it didn't help too much. Though I was able to get more down than I could normal ones! Thank you! I need to go update my ticker, I was super excited! I started swimming for more exercise too!

CHEWABLE MULTIVITAMINS???
ahillig replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just take 1 capsule 3 times a day of the Celebrate Multi-Complete 45 with Iron, it has everything you need, minus calcium. Because my diet is still largely based on dairy like cheese, yogurt, milk, etc I'm not on a calcium supplement yet but I'll probably start that soon as I'm starting to branch out from that now that I'm on soft foods. -
Well that's a positive thing in my opinion ... now if I can look at Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt and feel that way ... I'll be happy too ... and keep my taste for dark chocolate.

I am wanting some more variety. I have had a lot of cream of whatever Soups, yogurt, malt-o-meal. I also had some broth from homemade chicken Soup. That was great! =) I have been thinking...maybe broth from wonton soup? Maybe potato soup from Claim jumper? (strained of course) Do these sound ok? Anything else? Thanks. =)

I always eat Fage greek yogurt befor I work out. Tons pf protein & it does't sit like a pit in your stomach
-
I switched to Unjury brand. The unflavored can be added to whatever you like. *I routinely put a little extra in my greek yogurt to make it "super yogurt". When I was still on liquid diet, I'd make "protein jello" or pudding with extra protein with it (SF, of course). Unjury also has a chicken soup flavored one. It's a little high in sodium, but when you've just had enough of the sweet protein drinks, it's very satisfying. Caution: putting Unjury in liquids >140 degrees makes it sort of curdle. So, I wouldn't cook with it or put it in extra hot water/milk. The hot water dispenser out of the company coffee maker seemed just perfect. If I was at home, I would temp check before adding the Unjury.

I stopped all foods that had any sweet taste post surgery. I wanted to reset my gut bugs because sweet cravings come from the bad gut bugs who insist you continue eating sweet things. So my protein was NorCal organic grass fed whey powder, PLAIN. I missed it with raw milk (something I am used to, not for starting anew right after surgery, but it was so good for me and has some probiotics in it naturally). You can mix it with water. It wasn’t about tasting good, it was about eating to live. after a while though I found it was best to mix protein powder with plain full fat organic Greek yogurt. A very small volume gives you SO MUCH PROTEIN. And now almost a year later, it is my go to way of getting in all my protein. Sometimes I will with in some prebiotics like a tbsp of flax seed or inulin. Perfect food that tastes plain and not sweet. You eat it for what it does for you. Gives you strength, gets rid of your hunger. You know how good it is for you.

Ate a whole 5oz cup of yogurt
Forsythia replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the most part, yogurt goes down fairly easily. a 5 or 6 oz container is pretty easy to eat. 2.5 oz of chicken salad and a half ounce of cheese will fill me up quite quickly. The chicken is much more sold and therefore takes up more space, even when I am doing my best to chew chew chew it down. Its been almost two months since the procedure. If someone saw me eating a container of yogurt, they would never realize I had any surgery. Seeing me portion out the chicken salad though makes you realize how small the stomach really is! -
Ate a whole 5oz cup of yogurt
SnohoGal98296 replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on Day 4 and I ate about 6 oz of yogurt today too - I took me quite a bit a longer, but for about an hour afterwards I felt as if I had eaten a big meal - I had my husband walk me around the yard, it really helped - walking helps with my tummy rumbling and swallowed air pain. But - I was still surprised that I could consume the yogurt - it took about 30-40 minutes total. I do have to say that today is the first time where I feel more human again. The first 3 days (surgery day being day 0) had me feeling pretty wifty in the head, I couldn't drink anything more substantial than water with a splash of G2, I did find that Unjury Chicken Broth really helped me to be able to consume some protein because I was really worried about how little actually calories I was eating. But today is a new day and I am feeling so good that I am not too concerned about the yogurt. Day 14 is when I transition to Soft Foods.
