    Here I go

I would like to thank everyone for their sincere thoughts and prayers for my surgery Monday, December 16. I woke up from surgery in relatively little pain, the procedures ended up being very routine and uncomplicated. My problems came the day after surgery, when I attempted to take in any liquids. Any liquid going down, would cause my digestive system to go into painful spasms. My surgeon decided to keep me hospitalized for an additional day to see if they could convince by body to tolerate liquids and keep me hydrated with IV fluids. Muscle relaxers were administered to help with the spasms. Additionally, my blood sugar weirdly went up and I was administered 2 doses of insulin. Never before had blood sugar issues and no family history of diabetes. The second day after surgery, Wednesday, I was feeling much better, could sip without pain, and was cleared for discharge. That night, in my own bed, I slept an unheard of, for me, 10 hours. I have had 4 previous abdominal surgeries, 1 open, 3 laparoscopic and this is, by far, the least painful. I have not needed any of the prescribed narcotic pain relievers sent home with me. Had to go back to the hospital Thursday for a blood test. There is history of DVT blood clots, so I have to be on injectable blood thinners for 3 weeks. The blood test was to check the therapeutic level of the medicine. I spent the first few days at home taking in clear liquids and soon moved on to full liquids. Today is my 4th day on puréed foods, and I’m doing OK. It was a bit difficult, mentally, during the holidays, but I made it through. Tiredness is an issue, but I have to be gentle on myself since I’m still healing. I’ve still not had any real pain except, when I accidentally take too big of a drink or a deep breath, I get a pain in my left shoulder. At my post-op appointment, the surgeon explained that the hiatal hernia repai must have irritated a nerve that runs through the shoulder. It should go away in time. I’ve also been dealing with constipation, but just started with Miralax. I get to go back into the pool for water aerobics on Monday (can’t wait), but was ordered back to the gym to walk, do the treadmill, and recumbent bike on January 1. Weight wise, I am down 16 lbs since surgery, 72 lbs since I started the bariatric program, and 129 lbs from my all-time high weight. I have no regrets. I go back to work Monday, January 6.
  2. For anybody wanting to know I had my gastric bypass done in Tijuana Mexico by Pompeii Surgical. My surgeon was Dr.Q and I have has no problems since. I've lost 51lbs since surgery on October 16th 2019. Their process was easy by applying for it , then getting approved to have a weightloss procedure , to applying for financing . And it was a piece of cake. I have pictures attached of my progress and my videos can be found on Youtibe under Deadspacegrave. Thanks. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    My Story:

My name is Yvonne , I'm 29 years old and I'm from Texas. I have one child that is 5 years old going to be 6 soon and shes my only one so far. I been wanting bariatric surgery since I was 16 because weight has always been in control of my life. I previously lost 86lbs on my own but regained it after I got out of the Army. I had the RNY gastric bypass 10/16/19 and I've lost 51lbs since. I feel great other than a occasional cramp every now and then. I dropped in shirt sizes from 3X to 1X and a pant size from a 22 to a 14. I feel much healthier and I wished I had done it sooner! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

My mother said she no longer wants to talk or see me anymore.

Brenda Bell, oh she might not of been the perfect role model but wow that body was put together nice. She was my neighbor and was around 7 yrs older than me. Brenda would invite me over for steamed crab every Saturday with her family. Those were the best days remembering back. She actually had a brand new Iroc with 350hp in 1984 and she couldn't get it to do donuts in the snow. So I showed her how at age 10. I ripped those donuts out in the snow. She said how do you know how to do donuts. Up there you do what you have to to survive like many other city's. You do things that you call yourself an idiot later in life for. I was a major idiot.

    Im not losing weight

Get off the dang Scale! You keep that up and you will end up in a rubber room with a jacket that buckles from the back - You are focusing on getting healthy - The weight loss will come - weigh in every 10 days that way water weight changes will be not driving you nutz every day
  8. Hi All I had a gastric bypass done on the 16th December 2019 and followed all the guidelines. I have been having soup, yogurt or jelly but now before I go on to the puree foods stage I find I am hungry all the time. I was told that this wouldn't happen. I can also drink as much as I want all the time. I am just confused as to why I am hungry all the time, when at first I was always full. Has anyone else felt like this? Weight loss has stopped now. I have lost a total of 12Lb after gaining 2LB last few days. Thankyou
  9. hello all. I'm new to this whole posting stuff. I had surgery on September 23 2019. I weighed in at 457 the day off surgery. Its been a little over a 3 months now and I am down to 343.I know its a accomplishment but for the last 2 week I have stalled at this number. I have no idea what i'm doing wrong. I have 3 main meals daily. which total around 700-900 calories total. most of those calories are from lean white meat protein 2 1/2-3oz. green vegetables. I take all my vitamins like I should. I do about a 1 hour of cardio 6 days a week. 2-3 times a week i do some weight training. I'm just wondering if anyone had any suggestion or if anyone has ran into the situation. If not this is my rant for the day lol

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Katman VSG in Houston,TX. I have just had my Sleeve Surgery on 12/31/19. Almost 5 days later, I’m still in a lot of pain. It might be from a hernia that was repaired during the surgery, I don’t know. I have been walking to remove gas but hardly any success with that. Hurts worse trying to get up or sit down. I have no appetite at all. I lost 32# before surgery. 343# at surgery. I’m starting to have doubts, I shouldn’t have done this. Good luck on you’re surgery!

    ❤My Revision Story❤

My revision was on 12/17/19. I am doing awesome! I'm in the pureed stage, but I have not thrown up since the day before surgery. I had Gerd and throwing up so bad that I was aspirating food. I was malnourished and my voice stayed hoarse all the time. I'm definitely keeping what I eat down and my voice is even improving. I've been very pleased thus far. Hoping to start soft foods next week. The revision was the best thing that has happened to me in a long time!

    Questions about eating

It's amazing how many people can't "stomach" the protein shakes. After I got my lap band 10 years ago I lived on them. Now I can't get them down. Sounds like most of the bypass patients can't drink them.

Sorry ... what I get for writing a message at midnight and not checking my typing when my vision is blurry to boot. i meant to say around 10 calories per lb of muscle the 50 calories per lb is a myth. so I’ll write it correctly this time ... Muscle tissue will burn seven to 10 calories daily per pound. And since fat burns two to three calories daily per pound, replacing a pound of fat with muscle helps you burn an additional four to six more calories each day I guess my point was that exercise isn’t for weight loss. You are burning energy your body needs to function. Unless you are doing key resistance to build muscle or to lengthen and make the muscle stronger ie Pilates or barre. that is if you are lucky and are able to exercise. though I’ll never understand people that calorie load and then workout hours upon hours a day ... I guess my point is our body composition also effects our calorie burn rate or resting metabolic rate. (Mine just happens to be crap.)
  14. As a self pay Bariatric patient I had labs done through Quest Labs, and a swallow study done through Seton Hospital. I paid up front and had no issues. I then had my EKG, chest X-ray, and more labs done at another hospital that was recommended by my Bariatric surgeon’s office. If I had known this hospital was bought out by the non-profit hospital that is basically the only health plan option near me I never would have gone there. I have had issues with their billing in the past and learned to keep all my receipts. My daughter was literally refused treatment for an ear infection until I drove across town to the finance office to prove I had made my co-pays. I also paid $250 in $25 co-pays to have one wart removed off of her finger. The Dr. tried freezing it off in the office several times. We were finally sent to dermatology where they tried a laser and then at the final appointment just numbed her finger and cut it out. This occurred in 2010. I was paying $400 a month to keep my children insured and my employer paid around $200. For $600 per month 10 years ago, I expected some health care. This is also back when Doctors got bonuses for not sending you to a specialist (I could fill up the entire internet ranting about that issue). So, I paid in advance for the Chest X-Ray and EKG and was told I would receive a bill for the labs. About 4 months later I received two bills. One for the radiologist that read the chest x-ray and one for the Dr. that read the EKG. These bills came from separate offices (not the hospital). I tried to dispute them advising that I paid an agreed amount in advance. This did not work. I contacted the BBB and the X-Ray bill was written off, but the EKG wasn’t. I paid the $40ish bucks just so it would go away. Then I received another bill with itemized billing for my lab work, again this bill did not have the hospitals name on it. I paid that bill because those were the labs I had done. Then I received a bill from the hospital, this bill stated my insurance paid around $4000 and I owed them around $400. I called the number on the bill and advised them there was a mistake and requested an itemized bill. I was told over the phone the bill was for my labs and that the insurance adjustment was a mistake, but all I had to pay was the $400 Even though I already paid for the labs. So many phone calls it got ridiculous...I waited for my itemized bill, but I never received it. They just kept sending me the same bill showing that insurance paid a portion (my healthcare is through the VA and they did not pay them). I didn’t want my credit to get messed up, so I paid them $1.00 per month so they wouldn’t send me to collections. After 2 months of paying them $1.00 they sent me to collections. The initial phone call with collections started out pretty aggressive, but when I explained the situation he stated he would get me an itemized bill. The bill came and it showed that insurance covered my EKG, Chest X-Ray, and labs and the $400 was for my portion of all three of those procedures! I submitted all the bills and receipts I paid to the collections agency and never heard back from them. I decided to follow up with them and received an e-mail from their agency stating that they have closed my case. I thought it feel good to “win” but instead I just feel sad that their billing is still so messed up. I think they just nickel and dime people to make money. They got $42ish extra from me, and I am sure I am not the only one. My Dad says they started this new thing with Medicare patients where they can pay extra to be guaranteed same day appointments when they are ill and have access to their Doctor by phone 24hrs. This is crazy, his 90 year old neighbor is paying over $100 per month for this. If you are 90 and get sick the Doctor should see you!!! Umm, non-profit hospital? I also love when the health plan guy comes to our annual renewal meetings and explains how to not get billed for well patient visits. Basically you don’t discuss any health issues you might have during your routine physical because if you tell them your knee hurts and they offer you advise like icing it, take ibuprofen, etc. then they can bill you for the appointment. Thank goodness my kids are grown and I go to the VA. The VA I go to isn’t perfect, but the stress of dealing with a health plan/billing from the only game in town is gone. I used to go to premier urgent care if I had strep and didn’t want to wait 2 days to be seen and it was like $140 the last time I went. Now they passed some legislation and the VA is covering urgent care. The clinic that is doing it is a little further from me, but not to bad. Also, I am not retired military or disabled in any way. I qualified for subsidies (pre-tax) through ACA (Obama Care) due to my income. If you are a veteran and you qualify for subsidies you get the VA, choosing the subsidies and another health plan is not an option. I could get health insurance through my work, but they only pay 1/2 of employee. For those that are curious, because I am not retired and do not have a service connected disability I do pay co-pays. But they are not crazy. I was hospitalized for 5 days and had two surgical procedures to include my gallbladder removal and my total bill was around $1200. They also billed after the hospitalization (no finance people in the ER) and they let me set up a payment plan of my choosing. I paid them off earlier with my summer school check. We really need to fix our health care system...

I'll be 10 weeks Monday and I'm still mostly on shakes. 2 or 3 a day most days

    Quick question

If your activity level is low there's no reason to add calories. I'm 10 weeks post op nearly and I'm still around 500cal most days.

    Low BMI 2018/2019

I was banded in 2016 at that time I was about 220 pds and started having issues even with air all let out in 12/2018. Insurance had approved to remove band however I did want to wait and make sure that’s what I wanted. Over this past summer is when I decided to have my band removed and switched to the sleeve. My doctor wrote a letter of necessity to my insurance and it was approved. My lowest with band was 165 and at my surgery date on 12/31/2019 I was 183. I’m currently diabetic but off meds as instructed by my doctor. I’ve heard sometimes the surgery doesn’t work for everybody. . I also love wine but I do plan on doing everything by the book and cutting most of the carbs out. I had tried Keto but I think I gained weight instead of losing and I also ended up with my cholesterol a little high. Hope you find something that works for you.

    I wish. It's more like 7 up to 10.
  21. My Surgery was 11/4/19. I’m still having issues with eating. I’m either not hungry or what I fix just doesn’t taste good. I feel like maybe I wait to long before I eat. I drink my protein drink and I’m full all day. Sometimes I eat something today I’m fine the eat the same thing tomorrow and I throw up. My surgeon says you’ll get there. Anyone else had a hard time eating 2 months after surgery???

    The Sleeve and MS

I just had surgery on Dec. 23, 2019. Does anyone else have Multiple Sclerosis? I am in my 2nd week, and I haven't had any problems. I felt hungry from day 3 post-op until I was allowed to drink protein drinks in week-2. I don't do any exercising yet, and won't except while sitting due to very poor balance.
  23. I just had the sleeve done on Dec. 23, 2019, so I am in week-2. I'm going to track my calories later like "Fluffychix".
  24. Hi Hun thank you for your reply. yeah I’m propping myself up on a few pillows. No recliner as I’m in a hotel so I guess that doesn’t help either to get into a routine. yes the idea after first 10 days are finished, are to start on purées, I’ve been told to drink something other then water that’s sugar free so I need to look into that. I know a lot of people on here have jelly and ice lollies but my dietician has told me not to consume anything to cold or too hot. I have even given a binder and I use it religiously when I’m walking, it’s causing my wounds to discharge but apparently that’s completely normal. I am on a whole load of medication; from thyroid meds to vitamin d, couple antibiotics and stomach protectors. And I’m gulping a lot of water when taking the tablets which leaves no room for other ‘liquids’ but I guess it’s a big learning challenge and trying to understand my body again. rosy

"How many calories" - first thing to get right. "What kind of calories" - the fine tuning stuff. People can't lose weight 1) fast enough and 2) seem to be in a panic in regards of getting everything 110% perfect from the start. So there are too many people starting to fine tune the stuff without having figured out how far the basics are getting them. Some start their weight loss attempt/journey with firing the whole broadside on their fat without taking into the equation that it might be smart to keep some bullets in the arsenal to fire off later when things are slowing down and/or there are these last 10 kg that don't want to come off. So maybe thinking about that insulin index or spie or glycemic index or spike or the thermogenesis effect of different macronutrients is not really necessary as long as weight loss happens without worrying about this stuff. There will be time to worry about this later. Promised. This "fine tuning" is way worse on bodybuilding and/or fitness boards though, btw. "OMGZ, have to start with 6 days a week, 2 times a day going to the gym doing a split program, eating only protein and taking a 1000 supplements in the right order at the right time. If not, no gAinZ, bro!!" (But don't worry, we aren't that far behind, lol.)
