Yaaayyy!!! I have to start the liquid diet September 28th but I have to do a 3 week liquid diet. How long is yours? I know some people are only doing 2 weeks.

    September surgery buddies!!

Well said!! I wasn’t expecting that feeling and I spent most of my first week post op wondering wtf did I just do?? Everyday I was annoyed about it and it took a lot of self-talk and reassurance to get through it!
  3. I actually made my own. I kept premier around the house, but I found them very heavy after surgery. I will do something like unsweetened vanilla almond milk, PBFit powder, vanilla protein powder and sugar free grape jam. I have several different ones. I also drank a lot of Kettle Fire Bone Broth. I went crazy getting three bariatric cookbooks and pinning tons of recipes on pinterest but I feel I was super ready. I started purees yesterday and started with egg salad, no problem. Today I am making a bunch of mini muffin ricotta bakes and going to freeze the ones I don't eat today.
  4. Well I am almost 2 weeks post op and full for me is a pain that starts after I take a bite. Not like a searing just like a cramp that moves across my stomach. Or a hiccup!

    September surgery buddies!!

Welcome! This site is super helpful. I’m 53 so right there with you! Take the week off of work. Trust me on this. I was foolish and tried to go back on day 5 post op and it was no bueno. Rest, sip tiny sips of fluid and rest some more. Post-op eating has not been so bad. Liquid & pureed (currently mine) phases are a definite drag but doable. I bought a sample pack of Celebration brand vitamins and I’m pleasantly surprised at how easy they are to work into the day. Based on some other posters, Protein20 water is a real godsend. I like the Coconut flavor over ice. I’ve told very few people but interestingly enough, it was my doctor that recommended my surgery and two other medical professionals that have championed the decision. Everyone must walk their own path but it can’t be easy having someone special to you not easily on board. Good luck with your conversations, I wish you the very best.

Hello everyone! My gastric bypass is scheduled for 10th of October. I have been on a waiting list since 15th of February 2021. I got all pre op check ups done last year, but had final check up before surgery 2 weeks ago (nutritionist, anesthesiologist and bloodwork). All was in place. But then my bloodwork came back really bad. I have developed anemia and its severe enough they called my in to have IV transfusion plus taking extra iron supplements with my pre op vitamins. Have new blood draw scheduled on 4th, so hope things improve enough to get approved. My BMI is 50 so already had to start my liver shrinking pre-op diet, 3 week before surgery.

    August surgery buddies!

I think I'm going to just weigh myself once a month, if that. I can't go through this every week. I've been feeling so energetic and fabulous this week, and this weigh in has just crushed me. I really thought I mentally prepared myself for disappointing results, but it's clear I haven't. My poor husband!
  8. Hi, First of all , am so happy I found this site. I think it will be more than a little helpful! I am 62 yrs old so anyone my age that is going through or has gone through this I would appreciate any tips you could give. I am looking forward to having energy again and just being able to be healthy. This all started because I have to have my gall bladder removed and they are going to do the Bypass at the same time. I guess I am more nervous about taking all the vitamins and the liquid portion of the diet. I am finishing up some appointments next week. I am hoping I can do an at home sleep apnea test instead of going in. I still work and wondering about how much time I will need to recover. I have only told a few close friends and close family but I have'nt told my daughter who is an RN and not a fan of WLS. I am hoping it will not be a difficult conversation. Thanks again for all the good information! Good luck on your journeys.

    August surgery buddies!

I know what you mean. My weight loss has been very slow and I've stalled for 2 weeks. I'm finally losing again, but at a rate of about 1 to 2 lbs a week. I've only lost a total of 15 lbs since my surgery almost 6 weeks ago and 8 of it was in the first week after surgery when I could barely get liquids in. I guess 1 to 2 lbs a week is normal, but I had hoped for the rapid weight loss that I kept seeing during my Google searches for the surgery.

    August surgery buddies!

I think we have all been there. Stalls are really normal the first month. I spent most of my first month in a stall and it had me doubting everything. But then it broke and I started losing. As long as the numbers are going down... that is all that matters.
  11. I wasn't tired the first couple of weeks, but the last week I have been exhausted.

    August surgery buddies!

Well, today was my 1 month weigh in. I was at 297.5. I don't actually know my day of surgery weight, they didn't weigh me and I didn't have a scale. I was 325 a week after I started my 3 week pre-op liquid diet. 310 one week after surgery. So 27.5 lbs lost since August 6. I've always hated the scale, my whole life losing weight has been very slow, no matter what. I'm always the most compliant dieter, weigh and measure everything. Drink lots of plain water, exercise a lot. I'd hoped maybe getting bypass would change that. Guess not. Once again I'm doing absolutely everything perfectly, been in touch with my nutritionist frequently to share my food diary and he says I'm on track. I know it's a marathon not a sprint, I just stupidly thought/hoped maybe THIS time I wouldn't have to fight every pound off so hard. I swore I wasn't going to get upset after crying all day after my week 1 weigh in, but here I sit just a puddle. I did still go for my morning 35 minute walk, I'm swimming this afternoon for 30 minutes and I'll walk again for 30 minutes later tonight. All my food is planned and prepped for the day. It's all I can do. ARGHHH!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I think it took about eight weeks for it to completely lift, but it got a little better every week until it was completely gone (in other words, you won't feel this tired for the whole eight weeks (or however long it takes for you)). It'll gradually get better.
  14. Fluctuation is normal that early out. Try to weigh yourself less. It is not physically possible to eat enough to gain 6 lbs in a week, especially after WLS. You just can't eat enough to do it. Just stick to your plan and you will see the weight fall off. Good luck!

    **Weight REGAIN**

You are so not alone. This is a tough lifestyle change- for the better. You've done great, know you can achieve your goals and may have stalls,setbacks,... but get back up and reassess what you're doing differently. I'm not perfect no one is and we have to keep trying to get better everyday. My fav snack of chips is really improving because I try substituting things that occupy my mind and body,ie doing my hair, nails, long leisurely soaks, exercise,... sometimes it doesn't work, but I've stopped beating myself up because of the accomplishments I have made. This forum is great with great ppl. So I would suggest to keep reaching out here, find a pcp, social wkr., or someone in your surrounding community with experience to assist you in meeting your goals. You can do it, I can do it and we will meet and surpass our goal(s) and move on to the next thing because it's called living our best life! Blessings ❤

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Scheduled for my sleeve surgery on November 2nd. Final dietician appt in a couple of weeks and then a 3 days liquid diet prior to surgery. Nervous but I think it's long overdue. Haven't had many issues losing substantial weight, it's the keeping it off part that is tough. I think this is the tool that is needed to help me do so.
  17. I am not tracking calories right now as I just started pureed a week ago and I can barely eat 2 oz a day twice a day. But it can't hurt to start tracking. Also, I still struggle to get all of my water in but am working on it. Will definitely be talking to my doctor and dietician.
  18. So I’m a newbie and my surgery is scheduled for next week on 9/27 and I’m wondering what the veterans recommend for activities to do with your partner after surgery. Date nights for us would usually be dinners, movies, or bar trivia. Movies I see how that can be adjusted by not eating bad stuff. But what kinds of things have you guys found to replace old habits/hobbies that revolved around food and/or alcohol?
  19. Maybe take a break from the scale for a bit and just focus on meal prep and exercise when you can. I know easier said than done. I am looking at the scale a lot too. Our bodies need healing time, even after a revision. I heard week 3 is always for most people a stall. Look in a month and see.

    September surgery buddies!!

I'm back from my bypass. They were going to let me go after the 1st night but I was having trouble eating any food. Everything I tried to swallow except for water felt like I was trying to swallow acid. Luckily it did get better by the second night and today is even better. I have not hit my water or protein goals but I wasn't expecting to be able to do that so soon. I am surprised at how much I can drink though. I don't have to take tiny sips, my normal pre surgery swallowing amount still works. I am not hungry but I also can't tell when I'm full either. From what I have read and seen, 2 oz should be the size of my stomach but I can hold more. I asked my dr about it and he said it was a good thing and that it will help me reach my water and protein goals better. I asked him if maybe my stomach was left too big and he says he makes everyone's stomach the same size because they use a guide instrument. He says I will start feeling the restriction much more after I can start eating more solid foods. He also thinks that I can move to pureed food after my drs appointment next week. I thought I was on liquids for 2 weeks but I'll take only one week as long as things go well. In the meantime I'm still limiting myself to 2 oz to make sure that I don't stretch anything. As far as recovery is going, I'm doing better than I thought I would. The only really bad pain was when I was waking up after the surgery. I was still so groggy that I couldn't open my eyes but I could hear the nurse and she kept giving me doses of pain meds until I was comfortable. After that I was moved to my room. I was soooo happy to find out that they were letting my husband stay with me. Poor guy had to sleep in a reclining chair but at least he got to stay. He was amazing help when trying to get out of bed to go to the bathroom and to walk the halls. I did not get bad gas pains but I still have a lot of bloating but I can tell its inside because I can hear it travelling the loops of my intestine (sorry of that tmi) I have been taking gas x but its not being too effective yet. Its a tolerable pain though so I just have to get through it. Another tmi is that I still haven't had any bowel movements but the nurse wasn't worried and I honestly haven't eaten that much so maybe there isn't anything to go. The weekend before surgery while on the liquid diet I had the worst constipation and that finally broke the night before surgery. So maybe I was cleaned out enough that I have nothing to go atm. I have laxatives if needed and I my dr approved fiber powder to add to my liquids if I wanted to. I did request a belly binder is what I've called it, but its got a better name that I can't think of atm lol. It is amazing with how much it lessens the pain of moving. Getting out and into bed has been the hardest but once I got that on, I haven't taken it off. So now I just have to get all my liquids in and figure out what full feels like. I'm very happy not to feel hungry and also happy that so far I'm still ok with the taste of my premier protein shakes. I was going to be sad if I couldn't drink anymore of my pumpkin spice shakes. Sorry for the book but I am a talker lol

    RNY maintenance calories?

I did not have a RNY. I had the SADI-S, but I just got to maintenance in July. So far I'm up to about 1600 calories and was maintaining although last week I had a 2 pound gain. I'm not sure if it's from too many calories or water weight because I increased my exercise a lot. I guess we will see how it goes. I am 51 so I may need less since I'm close to menopause. September surgery buddies!!

Had my two week check in with the surgeon! It was over the phone so very basic, he just asked how my incisions were healing, what my weight was, if I was taking my vitamins, and how fast I could consume 4oz of liquid. He said everything sounded like I was on track. I asked him if I could try thicker soups like split pea or butternut squash, he said yes but they had to be a runny cream consistency and I have to wait for eggs, cottage cheese, ricotta till the puree phase, which I was kind of hoping he'd let me start a week early, but that made me feel like the answer would be "no" lol. It's probably for the best though, because I went straight to the store and bought some creamy split pea soup and wow after maybe three small bites I was like "yeah, this feels different" and it took me an hour to get through 4oz. I'm both surprised and not surprised; on one hand it is an actual food as opposed to liquid, but on the other hand, Greek yogurt and pudding is allowed on my liquid diet and they are heavy but take me about 30mins to get through 4oz. Funny how my body knows the difference between a vegetable and a liquid, even at a similar consistency. My dietitian didn't have me follow the 30min before 30min after rule with yogurts, but I'm definitely doing it with the peas soup. My next check in with the surgeon is in 4 weeks, hopefully it'll be a good one too.
  23. *TMI* WARNING *TMI* I didn't know about the serve constipation. I've been struggling so bad trying to pass this lumpy stool. NOTHING seems to be working, had to leave work early. I'm in sooooo much pain. I'm in the 2nd week of my 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet. Do anyone have any suggestions? I might not survive this.
  24. you would have had to have eaten 21,700 calories above and beyond what your body needs to have put on 6.2 lbs in one week. I suspect it's just water retention. Or it could be due to a very full bowel.

I’m scheduled for 14th October (I’m in UK). I have been on a strict liver reduction diet for 3 weeks already and have been sticking mainly to protein and meal replacement.
