I'm so thrilled! Today I was able to work out for a full hour! I walked on my treadmill at 4.0, and did two easy miles in 34 minutes. I lifted light weights after the fast walk! After that I got on my bike and took my dog on a run! Losing 45 pounds has a made a huge difference in my energy and ability to exercise.

What does sliming mean/feel like and other FAQ's
Saraboo replied to Alison I's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NSV means Non-Scale Victory. Like when the scal doesn't move but you drop a pants size, or you can cross your legs normally when you couldn't before, you don't have to use a seatbelt extender on an airplane anymore, etc. -

oh heck ya! I live in the Sunshine state and its been in the 90s in the afternoons. It has dipped into the 50s-60s and I don't like to be cold so I kept a couple of hoodies. I also found a Danskin zip-up lightweight jacket that was on the clearance racket about two months ago. I thought it wouldn't fit size (12-14) had a big NSV when it not only fit, but ZIPPED over the girls with plenty of room! I strut around in it like its a PINK LADIES jacket from Grease! -
So.....I am at a waterpark with my kids and for the first time in my adult life I can fit inside the intertubes and enjoy the rides. I have never been able to squeeze my boobs in them before. This is a huge deal for me and I am having a great time!!!

Glad you are ok!! Totally get the NSV aspect of the situation. It is a good feeling to be "normal size" and not have to worry about the small things. Take care your yourself!! -
So for the first time in my life (57 years old) I passed out. Fainted, face planted...whatever you want to call it. I was with my sister on line waiting to purchase tickets to a show we want to see. Was doing fine...my sister, who is obese, was sweating and had to take off her coat. This is what happens to her when we're just walking quickly, which we were. Doesn't happen to me anymore. I stood on line with her with my jacket closed and not a drop of perspiration (thank you lapband!!) Suddenly I got light-headed and dizzy. Sounded like everything was under Water and told sis I needed to sit down. That was the last thing I remember till I woke up with sis in my face calling my name. The theater manager called 911 even though I asked them not to. The EMTs come running in, take off my coat, put a BP cuff on and ask me questions. I know they're checking my cognitive function. They knew I was OK when they asked me to get in the ambulance so they could do a quick ECG and I said OK as long as my sister stayed on line for the tickets. So..here's the NSV. First one...no embarrassment over this. No feeling like ugh..the fat woman is sick. She must have done something to herself. No one staring at me..only concern on their faces. Second NSV..Being able to climb into the ambulance. Never had to do that before and I know that when I was heavy, it would have been impossible. Third...no worry that the BP cuff would fit. Fourth..no worry when they asked me to sit on the 'bed' which was really just a shelf with a plastic cushion. Fifth...and truly the best NSV...the relief that my weight would not be an issue or even be mentioned. I'm normal sized now and that's what everyone sees. So I'm fine today and will wait to see if my doctor wants me to come in. I did tell the nurse what happened and she said she'd let me know if I need to come in. But that's not really the point. The point is that I felt like a normal person and was treated like a normal person in a rather unusual situation. Those of you who are/were morbidly obese as I used to be will understand where I'm coming from.

Nsv and all kinds of other victories!

First the nsv, I purchased 2 pair of jeans yesterday. The first time I can remember the inseam being the same as waist. I went from a 46x30 to a 30x30 and to top it off the jeans were slim fit (me slim fit). Then this morning I weigh in and I'm at goal 168#. I have a normal bmi, I can't believe this happened in less than 5 months. I'm also 20#lighter than my dr's goal! -

Awesome NSV, and then to look at the scale to realize you are doing great! Karen -
So, My first NSV was getting in a ride @ Knott's... I was so nervous about potentially doing the "dreaded walk of shame". I got on, down came the bar...Whew! it went down....VICTORY! I rode that & had a blast with my family! I have lost 87 lbs so far, & am between an 18 -22 in clothes(depending on the cut/style, etc) After I got off the ride I noticed that there was a sign that said that if you recently had surgery, then you should not get on these rides. I had surgery in Jan.2007, I feel that I am healed, but didnt even THINK about anything happeneing to my band, my hubby said that it should be healed by now, but I would like your imput. I havent talked to my Dr. yet. I feel fine, just I am always a worry wart... :biggrin1:

I lost 22 pounds on my two week preop diet. Then it took 3 months to lose another 17 pounds after surgery. But Unlike so many others that whine about being "slow losers", I was thrilled. I'd lost 39 pounds for sh it's sake! How was that not awesome?! You really need to embrace this as an entire new lifetime of weight loss/maintenance. You shouldn't have any time-related deadlines. Just keep on plan, listen to your body, make adjustments to your nutrition as needed, and enjoy the NSVs. If you need numbers to concentrate on, make those numbers your Protein and Fluid goals. take your Vitamins. Use the next few months to learn new eating habits and coping mechanisms that will carry you through a lifetime of hardships to come. Don't worry what the scale says or especially what other people's scales say. -
What have you learned to love since WLS?
IncredibleShrinkingMan replied to dhrguru's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Nothing edible, unless I also loved it before. Isopure shakes might be one exception, but that might be the healthy feeling you get from consuming them rather than the actual sensual pleasure derived. I have learned to love airplane seatbelts, gym scales, measuring tapes, and half portion options (I don't think I had previously ever ordered one). I could go on and on and it would get even funnier. Anybody who wants to co-author a book entitled "1,001 NSV's" or a "365 NSV year-in-a-box" calendar PM me! -
What have you learned to love since WLS?

Crossing my legs. Kale. Balsamic vinegar. Water. Blouses that button in front and stay closed when I sit down. Walking my dog. Sitting between people in the back seat of a car. Food as fuel (sometimes). Being satisfied with one Hershey's Kiss and having no desire for a second one. Or even the first one, really. Shaving my legs with ease. Reading about NSVs!!! -
About 7 months post op I was telling a story to some co-workers and using my hands during a demonstrative moment. My wedding ring went flying across the room landing on someone's keyboard. Oy ... At this point, nobody at my work knew I had the surgery (they all know now) but of course, they knew I had been losing weight. It was a funny NSV. The problem was, my wedding ring was titanium, which can't be re-sized. I basically went without a ring for a year as I didn't know where my weight was going to settle. I have since purchased a new ring and it works for me. I am sad it is not my "wedding" ring, but I do still have the original up by the kitchen sink. Stores can always order a ring in your size and if not, if it is a pliable metal, they can re-size it.
