    No happy

Not happy.....5'9" BMI now 22....Surgery date 06-01-99...Down from size 18 to size 4. Partial obstrucition and esophagus swollen. Will not call doctor back. They want to take fuild out. I am worried that I will gain weight. I am still not happy with my size. I know that I should be.
  2. To deviate or to change the standard protocol. Hence .. I had an elective surgery that reduces my food intake... Please change your companies protocol to match my needs and dish a smaller plate and a smaller price. I agree with the previous poster as well... My sister weighs about 120 and has always ate like a bird. She has never asked them to reduce her price. Her son wants something off the adult menu but he is under 12 he doesn't ask for less and say it's because it's what he wants but cannot eat their standard portion size. If I want lobster at market value I pay the $40.. I don't ask them to chop the tip off the tail and charge me $10.

    New Year! New You!

Week 2 / Day 6: -14 pounds I guess 2011 is actually here. I have so many things that I want to do this year and I'm going to do them. Now that people have started to settle into their new routines the photos are starting to appear from the New Year's celebration that I attended. I don't like all of them, but I must admit that there are more that I do like than usual. I usually avoid the camera, but I went to this party with a new attitude. I felt more confident because of my positive outlook on the future. You see, I'm the kind of person that likes to get dressed up in full costume and go out on the town. I like to go to festivals and concerts that serve as perfect facilitators to this type of behavior, but I haven't felt very confident to draw attention to myself in the past 10 years. But, when I received an invitation to an event in Los Angeles this year that strongly urged costume I decided to participate at least a little. I purchased this wig some time ago as I am a huge disco fan. I didn't like the way that the center part looked or that it looks like your wearing a boxy hat on your head and I was thrilled when it arrived and I discovered that the "puffs" could be removed. I then threaded them with elastic string so that I could tie them around my own ponytails. If I had been at top game I would have worn a really low cut pant suit, but I'm not quite ready for that yet so I chose instead to wear I short bubble dress with sequence shorts and a leopard skin jacket. My legs actually don't look so bad, so I think I pulled it off. I slicked my hair down tight and pulled it into two low ponytails that I attached my afro puffs to. I then used a sequenced headband to hold it in place and applied lots of glitter both to my hair and face. Red lipstick usually isn't my thing since I have such small lips, but it seemed appropriate for the outfit. I then used spirit gum to apply three tiny crystals below each eye. I have been a fan of an LA based photographer named Curious Josh, so you can imagine my surprise and delight when he asked if he could photograph my sister and me. Not to bad. My dear friend Kampy then showed up with his gigantic camera and proceeded to take half a dozen pictures of me later in the night. Like I said, normally I would have evaded the camera, but I felt kinda OK this year. The party was called "Nexus" and it was amazing. There were four different areas with four different DJs. One area was drowned in red light and another (see above) was bathed in a glowing blue light. I think my sister had a great time, I know I did. OK. So all the pictures didn't come out that great, but I decided to include this one because it shows my adorable husband and although you can see some rolls in my still chubby cheeks and chin, I know that next years photos will be void of these flaws.

Am I in a normal funky stage right now?

If you just had a fill, it might loosen up a bit soon. It seems like many people feel a really tight pressure in the chest right after a fill, but it usually loosens up somewhat. As for the hunger, are you getting enough Protein in? You should probably drink a Protein shake for Breakfast and/or lunch. For me, it is usually tighter in the mornings, so if this is the case, a Protein Drink would be easiest to get down. Maybe try some softer Proteins like cottage or tuna. I like to mix sugar free jelly (10 calories per tbs) with 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese for 80 calories and 13 grams protein. Choosing protein rich foods should help with the real hunger, but it takes a while to stop wanting to eat "slider foods" all the time. If you're having cravings, try avoiding sugar for a while. I would stick with your current fill for a while before trying to get another one, because it sounds like you are already pretty tight. It should get easier soon.

    Almost time

If it makes you feel any better, I did it and I'm 19. I know this will be good for me in the long run towards better health. Also you don't have to completely cut out those things, but you do have to focus on Protein as much as possible. You'll be able to enjoy foo, just in restricted and more reasonable proportions...in my opinion, having to cherish what little portions we have will allow us to enjoy food even more. 9. Just wondering if this is something everyone experiences across the board or what. I keep track of my weight, daily, on a wall calendar so I can really pick up on patterns, etc. and here's what I've found... I lose weight consistently throughout the month. I continue to lose while I am on my period. As soon as my period has ended, my weight loss stops and I basically don't lose anything for 7 to 10 days, though I do absolutely nothing different. Then suddenly, it starts coming off again at a rapid pace. Anyone else experience this?

    Four things....

This new format is weird! It stretches out everyone's profile pix so they look fat but like a funhouse mirror! Anyway congrats on the pants size. I know I am really a size 10 because that's my size now at the Gap but my Levis are an 8 so I literally keep the sticky Levis 8 Short tag on my mirror! I started in the same style of Levis but they were a bursting 16! Good luck to all!
  11. I was also told I would lose 1 to 2 pounds per week, with some weeks not losing anything (plateau). I am losing an average of 10 pounds a month. Don't get discouraged. Try tracking calories, increasing your Protein, and increase your level of activity.

    No wonder I feel better..

Hi Liza, I'm only 4 1/2 weeks out post op and I was told no heavy lifting over 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks, please be careful I'd hate to see your band slip or your port flip, don't forget this is the healing period. Congrats on your weight loss, that's fantastic!!

    before and during

Wow! You look amazing! Your pictures are so incredibly inspiring!! I go in for surgery on 6/8/10 and we have really similar body types so seeing your results makes me that much more excited to work it off!

    Pity party for one

I understand how you feel but hang in there. It does get better. I too slept in my recliner the first 4 days and was so happy to be able to crawl into my bed. I am 19 days out and can tell you it does get better! And just think of the results
  15. Swampdoggie

    I hope it worked!

My sleeve was January 19 and I've only lost 12 pounds though I lost 23 on the pre op. I gave up weighing every day for 2 weeks and I gained. I'm back to weighing every day. I think it makes me a little more accountable even if the fluctuations are tough to see. I was banded in 2008 and was not successful so yes I do have a lot of anxiety that this won't work for me. But I'm gonna keep at it.
  16. This article is so on point. So many people see life through fat tinted lenses, that they are blinded to the fact that other people have the same struggles. This weekend I was trying on clothes and 2 other ladies were in the dressing room. One was complaining to her friend that she had to get size 10 at this store, but she normally wears an 8. The friend responded "The size doesn't matter as long as it fits right", with an exasperated voice. These were two thin young woman that don't look like they have ever struggled with weight. A lot of the women here, myself included, complain about clothing sizes but that isn't an issue exclusive to WLS patients, all women have the same gripes.

    Angry much?

To avoid all this I did not tell my coworkers or hardly anyone. I foresaw what would happen if I did. I also weighed 190 lbs and the few people who knew about my lap band consideration thought I was crazy and not a candidate at my weight. I had tried every single diet and nothing worked. When I hit the big 40, I am currently 41, everything, including my weight, went beserk on me. The best decision that I have made in a long time is getting the lap band. As of today, I am 40 lbs lighter and 15 lbs away from my goal. I am wearing a size 9/10 and sometimes 7/8. I am also wearing size medium tops. Who would've believed! My co-workers and clients are in awe and asking telling me how wonderful I look and asking me what diet i am following. I just smile and tell them, " I'm just exercising and eating right." I felt I didn't need to be scrutinized every step of the way, so I decided to keep it under wraps and I'm really glad I did.

    Lemon Cleanse

I did the Master Cleanse for the first time last October. Over the course of the 10 days, I had dropped 14 pounds. FYI - I'm not banded yet. I started on a Saturday and would recommend the same. Day 1 was a breeze. Day 2 was more difficult and probably the worst day for me of the 10. Yes, the SWF goes *right* through you. I went to the gym a few times and felt almost euphoric at times. While I had excellent energy, it didn't last as long as usual but I felt good. I felt powerful. I felt strong. I felt motivated. After the cleanse is over they recommend you drink freshly squeezed OJ or grapefruit juice. I"m not sure I've ever tasted anything so delicious in my life! Good luck with it! I happened to have my physical scheduled during that time and I even told my doctor about it. He said he doesn't recommend them for weight loss but if it's only 10 days, then he said I was OK.
  19. I saw my PCP on April 29, 2010 to discuss the option of LapBand for me. She agreed and prepared the referral to the IPA. I had my referral on May 3 and saw my doctor intially on May 5. Did my psche eval on May 11 and was submitted to Blue Shield for approval on May 19 and just received my approval on May 24. YAY!!! My surgery is already scheduled for June 4! This was the complete fAST TRACK!! I think i just got lucky .. so if you stay on top of people you might be lucky and get the process moving fast. It was all pretty easy. Hang in there.
  20. Starting to workout was the best thing I did. It took me about 4 months post-op to hit the gym. I got a personal trainer for weight lifting, see her 4 times a week. I do cardio about 5 times a week. I went from a slow walk for 20 minutes to a brisk walk on an incline for 45 or a jog for 30. I lost 107 pounds in 10 months. Hope this helps and best wishes.

    Intro

First of all congratulations. I was banded 12/30. I can tell you there are more good days than bad. I was on a 2 week pre op diet and had 2 bad days, i am 10 days post op and have had a couple "bad" days where i thought i just had to eat. Keep busy, i dont think you have the problem, keep your mouth busy if you are allowed to chew gum or hard candy etc. Follow the doctors orders. I havent cheated one time and the weight loss will show that. I did catch myself yesterday when i was cooking i stuck my finger in it to see if it was warm and then licked it off, i caught myself and spit it out, it was only a grain of rice but its not on the diet! lol You CAN do this, you HAVE to do this, and you WILL do this. I wis you the best of luck and keep us informed.

    10-23-06

Friday I had my final visit with my surgeon, Dr. M, before the actual surgery, which is soon approaching! Today I go for my "final" pre-op bloods, EKG, bloodtest and chest X-ray. I also got a flu shot today for the first time, and it really was not that bad! It is going to be a hectic afternoon, but I truly know it will all be worth it in the end! I hope that everyone out there is happy and feeling successful in one way or another! :high5: :whoo:
  25. I use unflavored unjury or chocolate to spike sugarfree pudding. Protein powder never tasted so good. I take a small box of chocolate sugarfree pudding, mix a scoop of unjury powder and blend it for just a few seconds with 1 1/4 cups of skim milk. Then add the chocolate pudding I put it in two bowls and chill it. If you use one scoop it will be about 15 grams of protein and about 170 calories total. If you are in need of more protein and calories use two scoops will add and additional 10 grams of protein and 50 more calories. I also use the chocolate to make a mocha. I take my leftover coffee or decaf if you prefer, a scoop of powder, half a cup of skim milk and 5-6 ice cube and you get a nice mocha. Not quite Starbucks but pretty darn good from where we stand.
