  1. I have been overweight all of my life. I had suffered with not only the weight but I also have extreme bowing of the legs. It's been a difficult road for me and it still is, however, the road isn't that bad of a climb any longer. I had my surgery on April 3rd, 2019 at a starting weight of somewhere around 350. I now weigh somewhere around 220. I guess since I have been overweight my entire life I'm not a number counter. People ask me all the time about where I am now or what number I came from and I have to be honest I couldn't tell them if I wanted to. I use to weigh at my highest 465+. I made it all the way down to 364 where it wouldn't go anywhere until I was put on the strick diet prior to having surgery. I tried everything you can possibly think of which was how I got the 100 off but my weight plateaued and wouldn't move for years. My knees just couldn't take it any longer and like an old bridge, I had to give in. I had contemplated surgery approximately 20 times going to the seminars etc. but never felt comfortable with the surgeons. I prayed about it and God sent MY surgeon and he can be right for you too. I had a blood clot of the lungs from the surgery directly following the surgery and the week after that I developed a rash that covered my entire body from the medicated for the blood clot. For two weeks I suffered and almost died. I've been asked would I go back and not have the surgery or what would I change if anything. My answer was and will remain the same, I would have the surgery and I would not change one thing! Everything has happened the way God intended. I have grown and I am still growing. Those events made me stronger. I could have died being 364 and continuing on at that weight. So for me, this journey has been a continued success. His name is Khoi Du, MD. He is located at 450 W. Medical Center Blvd Suite 600, Webster, TX 77598 and his contact number is (281) 332-4596. He did no more and no less than what he said he would do. He made no promise other than, if I gave my all, he would then do what he was given to do.

Sleeve to bypass weight loss concern

I was sleeved in 2012 and revised to GBP on 12/16/19 (3 weeks ago) at a 28 BMI. I was at close to my pre-sleeve goal weight but not my post-op maintenance weight, but still relatively fit. I have surprisingly lost 17# in 3 weeks which is a faster # and % of BMI than my sleeve -- and I was 320# then! So yeah you are going to lose weight. I don't know when it will stop since I'm 3 weeks out. I don't want to lose more than 10-15#, and I'd be fine stopping here since I'm almost under 25 BMI already. I get it, I hate how drawn I looked after rapid weight loss. I read somewhere on here that peanut butter was how one woman maintained post-op with a restricted capacity. I had a larger pouch and less bypassed than typical but that doesn't really help much the first few months when everything is inflammed. I am making a homemade egg drop soup most nights to get my calories over 1200 and it's good.

    Sleeved on 12-13-19

I was sleeved 12-12-19....My husband told me today my body feels jiggly! After feeling myself, I am! It’s as if I’m losing all my muscle. Is this normal? I’m not taking in enough calories nor have any extra energy to even think about working out. I’m walking about 5 miles a day for work, and that literally takes almost everything I have. Im drinking plenty of fluids, and getting at least 65g of protein a day. I’ve began to be able to get a few bites of soft food in a day. But mainly all my nutrition is protein powder in my fluids.

A friend had it done on her face to reduce the fine lines & loose skin post her weight loss. She said there’s been no difference. It’s supposed to stimulate collagen but takes a couple of weeks for the results to show. She had it done months ago. I’m doing RF on my face. Stimulates collagen growth too & also like needling not long term solution. The deep marionette line on my left side has become softer but the right side hasn’t changed. I’ve completed about 10 treatments (my beautician had a special going 6 treatments for price of 5) but I had hoped for better results. 😩 Considering laser lift but have to explore further.
  5. I hear ya Big Sean...My appetite has come back full force. I ate a 10 piece Buffalo wild wing platter in like 20 mins and didn't even bat an eye. It is scary because I only felt bad for about 10 mins. I am working on it though. I hear ya Dee Dee on the nuts. I eat several handfuls of almonds a day with no problems.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

Thank you so much for your responses. I think I will be ok as well since I am still 10 days out from my surgery. I will check with the nutritionist tomorrow just to make sure. It sure is nice to be able to talk with people who have been through the pre-op diet already! Thanks again!
  8. It's true that GBP (revision) patients maintain at least a 10% or more weight loss than sleeve, so theoretically revision is just giving yourself a better chance. I revised for acid reflux and "only" had regained ~ 25# of 130# lost and was still < 30 BMI at revision. But I will say that losing the 17# I have lost since 12/16, which is a higher rate as a % and # as compared to sleeve, has made me much happier. With that said, I'm only 3 weeks out so I'm actually scared I will lose more than I want and look like an old man again with that drawn face. And then I'm scared that I'm going to regain as well. I guess I'll never be happy. Listen, our stomachs/bodies often betray us and make us hungrier than we need to be. And the food supply is stacked against healthy eating. So if you can get a revision to keep more weight off then I would do it whenever you are ready. It's a tough, tough, battle out there. If you have acid reflux, however, I wouldn't hesitate to revise sooner than later. I developed Barrett's Esophagus which is miserable to get at 44 and I'm hoping will go away with some healing.
  9. I'm currently in the process of losing regained weight (20 lbs) I've already lost 10. I lowered my calories to 1200-1400 and make sure I get in at least 60g protien. So far it's been working. Good luck Sent from my SM-G950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. First time using this forum, still figuring out how this works. I am new to this VSG journey and am really excited to begin this next chapter of my life. I had my first appointment with the Bariatric clinic on 12/17/19, to get the ball rolling. I have several other appointments scheduled for this month (January 2020), and many more will be coming up in the months to come. I am hoping to have surgery in the summer of 2020. For the first time in my life, I feel like reaching my goal weight is a realistic possibility. I am working on losing as much weight as possible in the next 6 months (before surgery), to give myself a greater chance of getting to that goal. Thus far, since 12/17/19, I have lost 14 lbs and I feel such a huge difference in my body already! I can't even imagine what it will feel like to lose the rest of the weight! Are there any other Newbies out there who want to walk this journey together? I would love to hear from you! I would also love to hear from people who are farther along in this journey, who can share their experience and wisdom. I place this whole journey in the hands of God, by whose grace this is all happening in my life and on whose strength I totally rely! Thank you Jesus!

    NYE 2019 surgery date twin?

Glad you are feeling somewhat better. I haven't had much luck on getting in more than 64oz water in a 24hr period. I've only gotten in around 30 grams of protein a day. Farting pretty much constantly. Still haven't taken a bowel movement since the morning of 12/31/19. Don't think I'm constipated, just don't think anything is there to eliminate. All protein drinks are gross to me right now, even unflavored. So I drove to Walmart and bought a few cans of broccoli and cheese soup and a few cans of cooked shrimp. I put the can of soup, can of shrimp drained, 1 scoop of whey protein Isolate unflavored powder, and 1.5 cans of unsweetened almond milk in the blender. Turned it on the smoothie setting. It came out super creamy. Poured 6--2oz sealable bowls and put away 5 in the fridge. Heated the other in the microwave for a minute. Taste great, didn't even notice the shrimp in the soup. The soup was completely smooth with nothing to strain out. I'm going to get in 2oz in every 2hrs till 10pm that should give me 52 grams of protein today. The most so far.

2 months after surgery still can’t eat much

I have tried to eat a few bites of tuna in the pouch. I did make some taco soup. I ate some the first few days then I didn’t want it. Sometimes I get a little hungry. I’m still doing shakes and the sugar free popsicles. They are heaven when you can eat lol. They told me at Christmas I could eat a little to enjoy the day. I did have a little ham some beans I did fine. I only ate a few bites. Took some home and a few days later couldn’t eat it. I saw where someone was eating hummus so I bought some to try. Believe me I’m not rushing anything. My sister had this done in 2004. She gained a little back and said she can eat what she wants just in smaller portions. She said she still can’t process any sugar. Which is a good thing. thanks for everyone’s comments. It helps to have other people to talk to while going through the process. I started out at 302 in June 2019, surgery 11/4. Im down to 244 I’ve lost about 33 since surgery. My dr said my goal is 10 lbs a month and I’m reaching that goal. Going to sign up to go back to the gym. I can’t wait.
  16. I just met with my Nutritionist last week and brought up the fear of putting weight back on. I do not think you need any new surgery, I think you have a eating disorder like the rest of us Fat People who are here. Simply put i agree with above - Stop Eating junk and get on a healthy plan. There is no way for you not to loose weight if you keep your calorie count below 800 and follow the protein, veggie plan. All this other bully poop about new surgery and sleeve stretching is a excuse. It wont matter if you get 19 more surgeries if you keep taking in more then your burning. Alot of us including myself have had metal issues with this surgery - i would start with the Head then the Plan and see how that goes. You already have the tool now use the tool with all the other tools in the shop and get back to losing again!

Buy frozen, don't try to freeze it yourself. Commercial flash freezing is a complete different process, which creates smaller ice crystals that do not break the cell membranes. I.e. The fish, vegetables, etc. are more crisp. That said, my meal for our family last night: I rough cut 2 large onion and sweated with garlic in a frying pan with a bit of EVOO and small amount of water. Meanwhile thawed out 4 pieces of frozen cod in warm water (in plastic) then lightly EVOO, then salt, pepper, and lemon citrus seasoning (both side). Took out a ceramic baking dish, put the onions on the bottom, then laid fish on top. Took small can of chopped tomatoes and mixed in about 10 olives I chopped. Sprinkled some capers on top. Baked for 45 minutes. grabbed a bag of steam fresh broccli and cauliflower. Glorious fish, that did not taste fishy at all. I should have been doing stuff like is 10 years ago.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday, Saturday, Jan. 4 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 115.1 lbs ---------------------------------------- A couple of Mr's bros were over last night, and we had some serious late nite snacking going on including some VERY filling meatloaf. Went to bed with a relatively full stomach and this morning, I'm feeling so bloated it is NOT pleasant! I seriously feel like I'm still full from last night. Yuck. Was hoping for visit from the poop fairy for some relief, but alas, no luck. I attempted to go for a a short walk this morning to maybe move things along, but the sidewalks are way to slick and icy, so had to turn back after a couple of minutes. Taking the Kid to go see Little Women this afternoon and was totally looking forward to sharing a bag of movie popcorn with her (haven't had movie popcorn w/ butter since pre-op). If I don't empty my insides by then, she's gonna be on her own (with the popcorn, I mean, LOL). ---------------------------------------- 9:30am - coffee-cayenne coffee w/ stevia 1:30pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + carrots + cucumber + 3.5 oz avocado + 2 oz grilled chicken + 1 Keto Flax ChocLin cookie + 1 sugar free Russel Stover chocolate coconut snack 3:30pm - 3 low-carb baked bagel crackers + 1 tbsp peppercorn paté + 3 mini spring rolls + 3 oz deluxe mixed nuts 7:30pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + carrots + cucumber + 1 fillet pan fried cod + 2 oz squid ink pasta SANS pasta 10:30pm to 1:30am 1/2 cup chocolate peanut butter protein ice cream 1/2 fl oz pumpkin seeds 2 oz candied ginger 4 oz meatloaf w/ 2 tbsp bbq sauce w/ 1/8 cup fried onions 2 shots lemoncello ---------------------------------------- Totals: 2543 cals - 133g Protein - 155g NET carbs - 136g fat

    Oh, Just Another Plastics Story

ROFL. I guess I will be a self-pay, too. I guess it's not "enough" loose skin for insurance to pay (ok, I won't exclude being lucky so lets wait and see, I'm financially prepared already for the worst case though). I'm looking into the Avelar technique and would have to go to Austria then but I essentially cancelled all the thoughts about plastics (well, almost all thoughts...) when surgeons recommended a revision and told me to expect another 10% weight loss. 6.something kg doesn't sound that much but at a height of 167 cm it means more than two BMI points. However, I can have a mommy makeover myself then when the time comes around. Surgeons in Germany usually don't do breasts and tummy in one sitting when insurance covers the procedures because of how hospital stays are paid. (Germany's health care system is sick in its own special way.) ETA: Yes, gotta see the bright site of being a self-pay. One can get what's medically safe and not what some insurance company thinks they're going to pay for.

    Oh, Just Another Plastics Story

I have to do my anastomosis revision and hiatoplastic/gastropexia first I guess. 😔 Surgeon said that patients can have an additional 10% weight loss after this. So I definitely don't want to rush the plastics stuff.

Not really a rant but just frustrating

Lol, I think there’s a lot of us rowing that same boat. At the beginning of my journey my highest weight was 315 pounds and due to financial and other challenges, I spent over two years losing weight on my own and lost 35 pounds on my own . Since my surgery on August 21, 2019; I have lost another 66 pounds for a total of 101 pounds. I’ve lost my double chin and discovered my clavicle but because of my age (67) and the length of time I was obese, I have loose skin everywhere. I am retired and have enough money saved to live comfortably and frugally but there’s no way plastic surgery is in my future unless I hit the lottery. I see the pictures posted here and think that there’s no way that’s in my future. But I began this adventure for my health not to try to be sexy at seventy so I will leave it to the power above and attempt to age gracefully (if there is such a thing). I am more excited that exercise has developed into a nearly daily habit and for the first time in my life, I believe that I can overcome what I considered my greatest failure; unable to keep the weight off.

    Im not losing weight

Thank you for the scolding, because I need to hear this as well. I'm pre-op and obsessing about losing these last 10 pounds before my last appointment with the surgeon on the 17th before surgery on the 31st. My inner enemy whispers in my ears, "your surgery will be cancelled because you have failed!" That scale sees me everytime I go to the bathroom to pee, wash my hands, brush my teeth, if I walk by, just because I can't stop thinking about it.... I just had a confession, but damn this has been crazy, I've emailed the surgeon and the Bariatric Dr. I'm so ready to get these extra 10 pounds off and get some rest, I'm going crazy. I didn't mean to hijack the thread, I'm sorry and emotional.

    Recurring Hunger (2 Weeks Post-Op)?

I'm 5 days post VSG. I feel like I am starving. My dr approved a full liquid diet + anything that could fit through a straw. Yesterday was the first day I felt hungry. I am also very alarmed because I can drink fluids consistently without issue. Today I drank a whole 10 ounce protein shake in 15 minutes and felt fine..all day I drink water and I have no pain once or ever. Is this normal? I don't think it is I'm really wondering why I feel no restrictions. Tonight for dinner I ate a 4 oz jar of green bean baby food, 2 slices of mashed/watered down avocado and a teaspoon of watered down refried beans..I ate it with ease and was still hungry...thoughts? And yes I had already hady my protein for the day and almost all my water...help!
  24. Hi everyone! hoping for your help! I am one day away from being four weeks postop (VSG Dec 16, 2019) and I made myself some hummus today but the consistency was very grainy and I only had a couple of teaspoons but then I got super scared that The grains or the skin of the chickpeas might get stuck in my stitches and cause a leak or something...so I stopped eating....but now I’m freaking out!! Help!! Thoughts? Should I call my nurse tomorrow? Thanks! Neda Vancouver, BC

    January 2020 Surgery Date

I’m scheduled for surgery on Jan 8, 2020 -still debating whether to do the sleeve or army; leaning towards sleeve a little more. Super anxious and my biggest fear is that my liver won’t be small enough for surgery. In day #7 of pre-op 10 day 800 calories day diet.
