    Getting scared

Hi! Good to see a fellow mail carrier on here. I had surgery last november and went back to my route after 11 days. I was fine by that time. I probably could have done it after a week but i would have still been a little sore. Best of luck on your surgery.
  4. :confused2:I am a mail carrier and am suppose to return to work in 1 week I lift heavy trays and parcels will I be okay to do this or will I be in pain. I am only allowed one week off.
  5. I find Atkins bars and Shaklee Protein bars very helpful for business travel. They are low-carb, low-fat and low-calorie. They are full of Fiber. They keep blood sugar stable and control cravings. I use them during long flights of eight hours or more. Of course, I prefer real food, but with business travel, it is not always convenient. Downside of protein bars: flatulence. But they do control my hunger. I commute every other week between Europe and the US for work (one of the reasons I gained weight). Protein Bars have truly helped. I also know exactly the amount of my sodium intake. I cannot advocate protein bars for everyday use over real food. But I consider them superior to high-fat, high-sugar, high-carb processed food when on the road. For Breakfast in hotel buffets: I eat boiled eggs, smoked salmon and cheese.
  6. I'm feeling fine. And my band day of Aug 6 was long ago. Recovery has been excellent and I'm coming to an end of Stage 1 (liquids) next week when I see my surgeon on Tuesday, Aug 21 for my first post-surgery follow-up. Best wishes and Good Luck on Monday, Gigi_Girl. Be positive and Keep the Faith.

I am not on an all liquid diet I have just changed the way I eat all together since I am getting ready for surgery next week. My stomach growls all the time too although it's not that loud I guess to get embarassed over but it growls.

    BANAJOR OR BUST! Surgery 4/3/06

Well no busting but I am 2 weeks post-op from Bajanor and very happy. I'm so glad to be rebanded and working my way down the scale. I loved the packet of post-op information they gave to take home and refer back to with any question. I've got my lil' banded card. I didn't get one with my first band or all the post-op information to take home just verbal directions. It was overall a very positive experience!

Anyone else go through this ? Help!

About a week after my surgery, I was sooooo depressed and was acting like a total bitch to my DH. I'm not a big cryer (thanks to Lexapro), but there were several nights that I just cried my eyes out and was convinced that I should have never had the surgery. Granted I was still in some physical pain at that point and that was at least part of the problem. But I remembered my surgeon and nutritionist had warned me that I might go thru that, so that helped. Also, I had met a lady in the waiting room before my post-op appt that said she was very emotional immediately following her surgery but hers lasted about 6 weeks, mine was only about a week. IMHO, it is normal, or at least not abnormal to feel that way...don't lose faith. About your appetite - mine was exactly the same. The first week or so I had no appetite at all and I thought...cool, this is working. Then shortly after that it came back with a vengeance and it seemed like all I saw were commercials for food and I was practically drooling over them. It was luckily about that time that my doctor moved me to mushies and I could have FF refried Beans and very thin mashed potaotes....I thought I was in heaven and they really satisfied me. It really does go by quicker than you realize right now. In a couple of weeks you'll stabilize and you won't be obsessed with food so much...hang in there:thumbup:. All in all, everything you have posted I went thru myself but it has all leveled out now and I'm thrilled that I have had this done for myself and you will be too...just give it a little time, and it'll be okay....I promise!! Happy lap band journey to you!!
  10. Hi Everyone, Well I didn't really know what to expect the first week following the surgery and I'm experiencing a world of emotions as well as some physical symptoms? I'm curious if others have felt this way. 1. Has anyone else felt like they were depressed and their emotions are all over the place? Is this normal? 2. I've gone from feeling like I have no appetite at all ,to being obsessed with food I can't have right now and then back to no appetite? Anyone else? 3. I feel like i'm going through some sort of weird emotional detox, I never realized how much I depended on food for comfort although I knew I was an emotional eater before even having the surgery but this is hard. Any ideas on how to cope? 4. Has anyone else experienced a weird sensation ,when they sit up,almost like something is sticking you in the chest? 5. Last but not least,am I going crazy lol?
  11. good for you! I have only had 2 fills and i'm at 5.5 cc- I'm feeling more restriction now and I had my fill last week. I'm hoping that this feeling lasts for a while. I hope this is my sweet spot.
  12. I just had mines last week. It took about 30 minutes once I was actually called back. It took longer to get through all of the paperwork than it did the procedure. Be prepared, the barium is awfully thick.

    Surgery during school

I am scheduled in October and I've been worried about missing school. I have a week off in September I was really hoping I could get it done but no such luck. I have surgery on a Wednesday and I am hoping I can go back to class on Monday. I know it will be rough but I'm hoping I'll at least be able to sit through class and take it easy. 14. Hi Ms. Bee, I'm looking for buddies too. I don't live in the south just yet. Looking for a buddy or three! My surgery is the end of April. I'm having the sleeve as well. Have you been an overeater for many years? Can't wait to be on the losers bench.
  15. I am 16 months post op on 11/23. I have lost 60 pounds and have recently started working 2 full time jobs and unfortunately gained 4.5 pounds. I realized this and have decided to follow the pre-op and post-op diet to a T just to get myself back on track. Today is day 2 of liquids. I had a 5 day liquid diet before surgery and then 1 week liquids, 1 week mushies, 1 week soft and then the 4th week slowly introduced solid protein and veggies back in to my diet. Thanksgiving I will allow some solid foods but only for that day and only 1 meal. The liquid diet is definitely an eye opener to how reliant I am still on food. I am in this for success and will make it there. I have about 44-49 pounds I would like to lose. I am 194 right now and a size 14/L. I started out at 250ish and was in a size 20-22 and a 2xl shirt. I just stared getting really comfortable with my size and realized I need to lose even more to be healthy. I am not in this to get "skinny", I am in this to be healthy. I will get there. Down 1.5 pounds in 2 days. Wish me luck!!!

    Three Questions About Vsg...

I didn't have to jump through any insurance hoops. My BMI was very high at 50 when I met with doctors and insurance approved same day. The doctors I went to is a 1 stop shop. I went in for the consult and in same day did all tests, psych, insurance approval and scheduled my surgery date...which is now tomorrow! (it was scheduled 7 weeks ago) My dr. put me on 3 week pre-op because I have so much to lose. I have not had to supply my insurance.(Blue Cross PPO) with anything. I had to go back to dr. For more blood work, endoscopy procedure and then pre-op dr. Appointment. I think my experience has been easier than most in dealing with insurance...I've been very lucky. Best of luck in your process!
  17. Okay. I'm reading through this site as much as I can every day. (I'm way pre-op--first appt in mid-Aug.) A couple of things have started bugging me, so I thought I'd ask the experts (namely, all of you!). 1. I see the there is a WIDE variance in what surgeons and insurance companies ask you to do pre-op. Which tests, what diet, how long, etc. So here's my question: is it possible to lose so much weight running through the pre-op hoops that the insurance company, which initially looked hopeful, now says, "Whoa, we think you can lose and maintain the your weight yourself?" I mean, is this pre-op diet ever a real hurdle to surgery down the pike? 2. What if you don't have the "standard" morbidities? Like, suppose someone had a life-threatening anaphylactic allergy to dust mites that is compounded by heavy weight? Or, suppose someone has had brain surgery for an aneurysm and was told that high blood pressure doesn't help in the possible recurrence of another aneurysm? I'm just sayin'..... What if it's other stuff? Does this, so to speak, weigh in with the insurance companies? 3. One of the things that really strikes me in this is that a) we're all pretty much powerless over food; we (at least I) hate being powerless; c) we decide on surgery (which is, like, a totally pro-active, life-affirming thing to do), and then, boom! d) the insurance company makes us, well, powerless again. Is anybody else really, really ticked off about this? I should add that I haven't actually experienced any of the above--okay, I've experienced #2. But I'm asking because I am trying to get a healthy mindset for my appointment in August. I really want this whole process to be one of dialogue and decision--not too much edict. Are people--surgeons and insurance--generally willing to work with you? I'd really appreciate your thoughts and insight on these. Thanks in advance. DeterminedGirl

    pre-op diet question

I didn't get my preop instructions til I went for my preop appt. and have been on my preop diet for about a week now... You'll probably get your instructions then.. but there are a few who don't have to do a preop.. I wouldn't worry about it too much your Dr will direct you! Good Luck!
  19. Thank you for the responses. I see the nurse to talk about diet and nutrition next week. I am a little worried. I have been heavy for many years and I need to get rid of it
  20. You can do it. I am 11 weeks post op and for me the pre op diet was the hardest but you will be so happy in the end!! Prayers going up for you.

    Is this a stall already?

What you are experiencing is a very normal, necessary, and natural part of the process. We all experience stalls, especially about three weeks after surgery. This will not be your last stall. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  23. I am 2 weeks out today! I was 281 at my preop testing which was about 2.5 weeks before surgery, I'm 261 today. I lost around 13 lbs the first week after surgery, however the scale has not moved, well it went up a couple pounds, since Monday! Is it really possible to start as stall at 10 days post op? Am I doomed, it's not like anything else I've ever done has worked, maybe this just won't either!? I'm only 5 feet tall so for my weight I really would have thought I'd get a little more out of this than 13 lbs.
  24. Take a deep breath. You are not even close to done losing. Believe it or not you are really not in control of how fast or how slow you will lose the weight that it probably took years to put on. Your body has been through a lot of trauma in the last several weeks and it requires time to regroup and move forward. Weight fluctuates from day to day and week to week. It will come off if you follow the food plan. I promise! Take it from someone who has weathered many stalls, if your weight fluctuations bring you down, you will need to stay off the scale. I am a daily weigher but I have had to learn to only use that number as a barometer to help me stay on track. I also use the way I feel, the way my clothes fit and a tape measure. Also I would not even consider no weight loss a stall until I have not lost anything in 2 weeks. If you want more info about stalls, use the search tool and you will find many posts on the subject. For now, you are doing great! Give yourself and your body a break. You need time to heal both mind and body. Good luck to you!

    Year 1/2 post surgery

My doctor recommended that I take a B complex to help with fatigue. He said that many patients do so much better with fatigue after taking it. Just started so I can't say if it works or not. My 6 months blood tests all came out good, except for elevated alkaline phosphatase, in which I will be having a abdominal CT scan next week to see if anything else is going on. Hope you figure out what is going on soon so you can start enjoying 100% of your new life!
