Let’s talk about sliming
Orchids&Dragons replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine lasts for as long as 2 hours at a time! One of the reasons that I'm still mostly living on yogurt. And that's with walking and trying to breathe. But I agree - DO NOT ADD LIQUID! -
Definetly will try this. I haed greek yogurt in the beginning, but have really grown to love it. So many thing you can do with it.

I hadn't tried this recipe yet. I stumble upon this on foodnetwork and find this chef named Ellie Krieger. Though, I don't know very much about her, but her recipes are healthy cooking. I might give this a try at my dad place when I go up to Washington state during the holidays. I can't have mayonnaise or other stuff cause all the brands in store have corn syrup and sugar. It just taste awful and too sweet. I can understand why people make there own mayonnaise and ketup. I hope you guys like sea food. Specially, lobsters. Ingredients 1/2 cup nonfat plain Greek-style yogurt or 2/3 cup regular, plain nonfat yogurt 3 tablespoons juice 1 pound cooked meat or cooked Protein 29 g; Carb 25 g; Fiber 3 g; Cholesterol 85 mg; Sodium 720 mg Excellent source of: Protein, Niacin, Vitamin B12, Copper, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Selenium, Zinc Good source of: Fiber, Vitamin B6, Calcium, Iron, Potassium

Are You Really Full?? (With Other Randomness)
kpeterson1965 replied to JhonnieB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your decision. I was banded on May 29th and have lost 28 lbs so far. Two things I can tell you related to your question is #1, patience is key, and #2, the amount of weight you lose is dependent on how much effort you put into the entire process. Let me explain both. Patience - it has taken me 3 months to get to the "sweet spot" where the band has just the right amount of restriction. I can eat enough food to be healthy without vomiting it up, but feel full faster and stay full longer and am losing weight. I had several fills and one unfill, then another fill to get to the right spot. Effort - it is not a magic mechanism. You have to eat the right foods, in the right order, exercise, drink tons of liquids, etc. You must follow the instructions your Dr. gives you to a tee. Example: I could probably still eat 2 big slices of pizza even though I am banded. Pizza is really greasy and slides right through the band. If I eat 3 oz of lean mean, 1/2 cup of vegetables and a little yogurt, I'm full for at least 4-5 hours. Huge calorie difference. It really is a lifestyle change. You have to change the way you eat for life. You have to be in control, almost to the point of being obsessive, at least until you've adopted good habits for good. It also helps to attend support group meetings, journal your foods and exercise. People who do those things are more successful than those who don't. The person who only lost 20 lbs maybe didn't follow through on fills, getting to the right restriction zone, and could have snacked on foods throughout the day, ate the wrong types of foods, etc. There are many ways you can fail, but you CHOOSE to fail. And to ultimately answer your question, yes I do get the "ok stop eating now feeling" but I will say it is more subtle than I had expected. It could be different for different people. Good luck on your journey, You won't regret it, I don't! -
What are the pains from? Gas, fullness, or surgery?
AZnikki replied to AZnikki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW...such varieties--I think I've figure out that its gas and surgery pains. I only wish I was burping more...then I might at least feel like the gas was escaping...my tummy is hard as a rock and bloated like crazy...more at times than at others. I've had no trouble walking--some pain when I first stand up but then it usually subsides. I take the liquid vicodin about twice a day rather than every 4 hours. I'm walking to mailbox several times per day and then went to WalMart and even Home Depot. Took Milk of Magnesia to get a BM going--wow...that worked...but still bloated. Never had shoulder pain--lots of back pain that same day of surgery, but after that, it's been okay...thankfully. HOT TEA is a GOD SEND to me!!!! Soothes heartburn, gas pains, aches, etc!!! EARL GREY with a touch of lemon is making me feel human again!!!!! Diet for Post Op weeks 1-3: Choose 2 oz. of cream of wheat, creamed Soup, pudding or yogurt for break, lunch and dinner. Throughout the day, try to get in 8 oz. of Protein drink. Also, can have 2 oz. of broth, tea, Water, coffee, crystal light, sf Jello, sf popsicles, etc. about 15 min after anything else. I'm definitely not starving...but geez, missing food at times :0( but I know I'm not doing all this for nothing!!! -
What pre op diet are you on or going to start?
Hunter replied to deitress1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story

Fear of STRETCHING Sleeve!
AELee replied to Fatdiva14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fatdiva I too have fears of not loosing enough weight. I walk, jog, spin, and treadmill everyday, sometimes 3 times a day. I always burn more calories than I take in which has never been more than 350 calories. I had my surgery Feb 20, 2015. From day one I have struggled to get my Protein in. I absolutely cannot stand the taste and I've tried many different types and in may different ways, (in food, as a shake, with crystal lite, yada yada yada). I just hate it. I pretty much hate most sweets now. The taste of sugar makes me spit all day, yuk. I see my doctor tomorrow because I'm at a lost as to what to eat or do. I eat so slow that Breakfast always runs into lunch. One, I've never been a breakfast person; so, it is difficult to eat breakfast because I'm never hungry in the morning, for 49 years I've skipped breakfast. I pretty much can't stand another cup of yogurt. Now I'll have 1 Sargento Pepper Jack cheese stick and Water. I've always loved ice cold water, wish I could drink it like I use to, but my stomach says no way, can't drink fast. Any suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated. I feel so confused right now and at a lost. Scared to death that I'm not even going to loose anymore weight. Further, how many calories should I be eating per day anyway. I can never get a straight answer out of the nutritionist. -
I was banded on 2/26. Thank you to everyone for posting your experiences. The gas and burping, I was told, is a side effect from the surgery. I found a comfortable position to sleep in and have not been doing too bad. I eat sugar free popsicles, yogurt, pudding, and broth, plus decaf green tea, Water and decaf coffee. It feels like someone kicked me in the stomach. But I did get my period this morning, which sucks, but I will deal with it. I am, as I am sure you guys are, looking forward to getting back to normal. Melanie PS, weight gain is just the gas they put in you for the surgery...

I was sleeved on 3/20. I have lost 34 pounds total. I now eat real food. I always take Protein in first. I fill up very quick. I do eat chobani yogurt and oatmeal, but I and a extra 15 grams of protein powder to it (this ups my yogurt to 31 grams of protein). My oatmeal I add 15 grams of protein. Just stay to a plan that works best for you, never attempt to over eat.

My Fellow 9/4 (Or Last Week) Sleevers - How Are You Doing ?
Angelmom replied to Odee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I was going to die. The nurses were not nice or suportive. My iv pain med was one where I had to push the button "when the light turns green"...but I would be sleeping when the light would turn green...then they'd come in a say I didn't push the button. I couldn't move, and coudn't see the button anyway. They should've just given me the med, period! As I said in my blog posting, they left me for hours witih my but in the hole of a stretcher, and laying completely on my back. I have asthma and my lungs were in dior straits...though I had been working on them...all was lost when they did that. My lungs were partially still collapsed...not good. I have been coughing junk up like crazy, and my body is using all my might to do it...which is tearing up my guts. The most calories I have been able to get in are 375, with 22 Proteins...and that's with sipping much of the day...when I don't want to eat anything at all. The docs took away the large amount (for a sleever) liquid meds, and that made me able to eat the shakes, then....but not much. They also said i could have the greek yogurt, and that helped a lot, but it took me 2 hours to eat one. I have lost the 14 lbs of Fluid i gained while in the hospital--and some fat poundage (hopefully not lean muscle). All I can think about is being out of pain, and the shower I managed to get today, with my daughter helping me a lot, made me feel worse. I had been coughing a lot and that weakened me first...but I had to get a shower. I honestly thought I was going to die, and asked my friend who looked after the twins for me...and my children heard me say it...then they were upset...ALL the nurses fault, if I must say...since they left me to rot in the hall in a stretcher in the basement of the hospital! So far, the only thing that makes me feel nauseas over and above the nausea meds, is the smell of eaten food on my children's breath...and scented lotions my girl has put on. One thing that has gone well is that though I had my period for a month straight before the surgery, it stopped in time, and did not come back until now...when I can barely wipe myself a little. My girl had to help me put underwear and a pad on...not what I would want....but at least I had a break from that mess. I don't get how people can risk everything with eating eggs and having sex now. I wouldn't dream of taking those chances. You all have more guts than me, that's for sure...but I think I had a lot more pain than most...so much pain that i was shaking uncontrollably, and my jaw was chattering like I was in a blizzard...or worse, from the pain. I had to hold it still with my hand. I couldn't stop crying from the pain either, and even now, 6 days later, I still have a tear or two from pain...and I yell out in pain too. I can't help it. There is only one way to go now...can't get my stomach back...not sure I would want it back. I know I was sorry I got the surgery for at least the 4 days I was in the hospital...not sure how i feel now...except that I want this pain over now. -

Best low fat yogurt for 2nd week post op?
Ah0505 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not much of a yogurt person, the only kind I've had in the past year or two is Greek with honey. Since honey is probably not a good idea please tell me your favorites! Thank you!!! -

Nine days post-op
RevisionReally replied to RevisionReally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hanging head.... No, Jessica, but it is helping my headache. And I counted the calories that I'm getting in daily, and with the Isopure, Premere Protein, greek yogurt, cream soup, and other fat free, sugar free things, I'm still only getting about 700 calories per day. I'm open to your thoughts. -
Cheating on day 6 post op
Shaydi.Laine replied to DebraM04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, first off the hunger is probably real. Mine was. I was hungry right after surgery and didn't stop being hungry ALL THE TIME until about 2 weeks post op, then things got better. This is different for some people, the lucky ones are never hungry, the unlucky have to deal with hunger. That said, I get so frustrated reading posts from people who cheat early after surgery. This is a hint at epic failure down the road. If you cannot control yourself while healing from having your *stomach cut out*, you are going to be hard pressed to control yourself once the hard healing is over. Seek professional help instead of cheating. There are plenty of ways to alleviate hunger without making stupid (sorry but crackers, chips, crunchy anything, hard to digest meats, things with seeds, popcorn etc are really freekin' stupid) choices. I can't believe some of the things people decide to shovel down their throats while their bellies are healing!! STOP IT ALL OF YOU!!! I thrived on yogurt, pudding, and cream Soups. I made it through, so can anyone. Really, if you feel you must cheat, see your team psychologist. If you don't have one, find one. This is possibly the single most important thing you can do in terms of getting a handle on long term success NOW. -
I have a food scale which I used A LOT the first year or two. I don't use it that much anymore, though - maybe once a month or so. I bought some 8 oz ramekins because that way I didn't have to measure some things. If it fit in the ramekin, it was a cup (or if it fit in half the ramekin, it was 1/2 a cup - although you can also buy 4 oz ramekins) I also bought some baby spoons - and I still use them for eating some things (like yogurt) at seven years out -- but now it's mostly because I love them! I never bought special cups or glasses - I Just used the ones I already had.

After which fill did YOU really start losing!
AandMsmom replied to AppleSmith1226's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just had my fourth fill. Right after the fill, it was slow going with water and took 20 mins to drink a tomato Soup At Hand. I ate a few bites of dinner and then had to throw up. Thursday and today, I feel like I have no more restriction than before. I don't understand. I am 3 months post surgery and have only lost a few pounds. I try just not eating but then I get so hungry i end up snacking. If i eat a scambled egg for breakfast, a sugarfree yogurt and a piece of lowfat chhes for lunch and then some protein and veggies for dinner, I still don't lose weight. I thought this fill would be "the one" the day I had it and then one day later I'm back to normal. Able to more than I should and getting hungry after 2 hours. This is really frustrating!@!!! -
I'm Scared - Something is going wrong - HELP PLEASE
piercedqt78 replied to My_o_My's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's good to hear the liquids are helping. I just discovered something called keifer, it is a pro biotic (kinda like a yogurt smoothie) and has some live cultures in it. I am on a very strong antibiotic and it has helped to protect my stomach. Might be worth checking out, I got mine in the dairy section right beside yogurt. Dannon makes it, so does lifeway. I bought the lifeway, it was cheaper had more in it and came in more flavors. Maybe that will help to coat your stomach and also boot the immune system. ~Mandy -
Hi Debbie, Has Mr Hewin given you a post op diet to stick to. My collegue has just had it done and had to eat yogurt for a week (nothing else) I've been reading up on all sorts of pre op diets (low fat, low sugar, low carb, high Protein, shakes, Soups etc) and wondered what he suggested. I have my docs appointment tomorrow so he can refer me as my blood tests were clear. How long does it usually take from consultation to operation? I'd love it done in the spring holidays as I'm a teacher. I can't wait to have it done but there's still a chance he could say no :-( Gill :-)

5 Wks, Still Feeling Pukey, Food Sticks In My Throat :(
jenniferb posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks out and I still feel really nauseous when I eat/drink. I am unable to even come close to getting the amount of protein/calories/fluids I am supposed to get, because a few bites and I feel sick. I vomit at least once a day. I'm still on soft foods, most of which I can't tolerate. I am trying to concentrate on consuming higher Protein foods. The things I have found I can tolerate pretty well are yogurt, cottage cheese, and pudding. Plain Water is about all I drink--its all that sounds good. When I swallow food, most of the time it feels like its stuck in the base of my throat and won't go down. So naturally it comes back up. Is that normal? And if so, does this feeling get better eventually? I have been trying all the things the doctors say to do--eating tiny bites, eating slowly, chewing food 20-30X before swallowing, etc....I take 20mg Prilosec (Omeprazole) daily. I have been losing weight pretty rapidly, but I'm worried it will come to a screeching halt if I keep taking in so few calories! (My average has been between 300-400 calories a day). Anyway, I was really hoping to feel better than this by now and its really getting depressing. I am one of the "lucky" ones who has 200+ lbs to lose, and I fear I have a long road ahead. My 6 week check up is on Feb. 23rd, but I was hoping for some insight here, as that seems like a million years away! Sorry for the depressing post....I'm just bummed out at the moment. Thanks for listening and I'd appreciate your insight. -
Pre-op yogurt choice...is this possible?!
Butterthebean replied to Chunky_Dunk's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Frozen yogurt kinda defeats the purpose of the whole diet...which is to shrink your liver. Sugar will prevent that from happening. And an oversized liver during surgery can lead to .....at least your surgery getting cancelled and at most....death. So....not being a medical professional but knowing what I know about this surgery....I'd say please get a second opinion before embarking on your frozen yogurt diet. -
Greek Yogurt
Beth Brady Culberson replied to chanale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for sharing this idea!! I have never liked plain yogurt! But I need it due to a yeast infection from the antibiotics at surgery time! I am 1 week and 1 day out of surgery! Thank you so very much!! -
make sure you get the plain yogurt. the fruit and even vanilla have a lot of sugar in them. I bought the Smuckers sugar free preserved and put that in the yogurt. good flavor, little calories and no sugar.
