Experts - Does it go away? Get easier?

I can't answer that because I was still on liquids at the point you are. I did 10 days of clear liquid and 10 days of full liquids before progressing to mushie food. I do remember when I first moved to mushie food that I could only eat about 3 bites. It took quite awhile to be able to eat more than that. I still had Protein drinks because 3 bites of food did not satisfy me. Eating was more of an experiment at that point. The Protein Drinks really did satisfy me. If I made them in the blender with crushed ice, they were like a milkshake.
  2. Hello, I thought I might let you all know how my banding went, and it was good. I went about 10:20a m and I was supposed to be there at 10:00....bad girl...he he he he! Well they had me to wait about 3.5 hours so I didn't feel bad about being late. But it gave me time to think about it and I got my nerves all tied up in a knot. The first nurse wasn't the friendliest person so I am sure that had something to do with it. And they forgot to get a urine sample so after not having a thing to drink since 12 am ..... I had to find some yellow lemonade from deep within myself. Well they wheeled me away and when I got to the OP room .... I reallllly got nervous. The only thing, I remember is, "What kind of drink would you like?" So, I said a martini please, and she said it was coming right up, and I was out! LOL, so when I woke up I wanted my damn martini!!!! LOL, that's the first thing I mentioned. Other than asking if my liver was ok....I was really concerned about the size of my liver even though I didn't cheat at all. I felt like getting up and walking while in recovery so as soon as I was transported back to my room, I walked. Because the gas was unbelievable but it subsided pretty quick and it's just shifting around right now. But it's not so unbearable just uncomfortable. Well, I feel pretty good with a mild pain. I went to Target to get my just born today neice a little something and walked around just fine. At least in my mind but the stares I got let me know I look like a patient of some sort. But I was walking to get back in the spirit of myself as soon as possible. After Target I went to the hospital where they were and I still felt all good. The only thing I have a problem with is getting up from a seat and that's just because of the incisions. I was so freaked out before surgery during all the anticipation and it's really not bad at all. At least not with out pain medication......Oh I tried to eat a Jello cup and I didn't finish it when before I would eat two just because I love them. But it just wasn't possible, sure it's because of the swelling right now. But I did find it pretty easy to eat slow and I have alway been a fast eater. I hope I can keep the same momentum with all foods I eat as I did with the jello. Sorry it's so long but I just wanted any pre-banders to know......There's nothing worry about!!!!!

    good and effective hamstring stretches?

Great idea having your wife help. Assisted stretching is great. Couple of suggestions to try, see what works... 1) don't worry about having your leg completely straight, slight bend in the knee may end up being more effective in the beginning 2) There are schools of thought that resistance/muscle contraction can help to improve flexibility. So, do your stretch, hold 10-15 seconds, then press your heel into your wife's hands to contract the hammies, hold 5-10 seconds, stretch again... See how that feels. If it ends up causing muscle cramping during the contraction, abort the mission and revert back to your original plan!
  4. Lizzee038 I just saw you live in the Hughesville area. I live in La Plata. I'm going through Bluepoint Surgical Group with Dr moazzez. I saw you were looking for a mentor. Well since you already had surgery I can't be your mentor but I just thought I'd say hi since you live nearby. Do you go to the support group at st Mary's Hospital ? It meets the second saturday of the month at 10 am I'm pretty sure. I haven't been to it yet but I'm going to go in September. I'm looking for a mid September approval and a end of October surgery. Get back in touch if you want to. Hope everything's going well for you as you continue to recover .... Jenn

    Welcome

Hello everyone my name is Tywoana, I live in Phenix City Al. I am a 41 year oldwife and mother of 3 son's. My oldest was killed in 2011. I was always overweight but once my son was killed I gained over 100 lbs. I tried to lose the weight knowing that it wasnt healthy for me but the more I lost the more I gained. I decided last year that I would look into having the sleeve and the job I had at the time excluded WLS from their coverage. I then made a life changing decision to go to a job that would cover so in September of 2013 I left my job of 10 years to start over at Wellpoint. I tried to start the process in 2013 but was misquoted on the coverage and the discouraged. I pulled myself together and did my research found out the info I had received was wrong. I had my first visit with my surgeon at the end of February. I was provided a list of what I would need to do. I completed it all in March and was given my approval at the end of March. My surgery date in the 28th and I have been staying busy to avoid the jitters. People that I would tell about my plans always say something dumb to rock my confidence so at this point I only confide here and with my husband and 2 sons. I want to say thank each of you for being so informative and welcoming!

Giby97, One More Time "FILL" for 2010

Headed to the doc's this weekend to get one more "Fill". This will be my 4th, maybe a 1.5 cc which added to my already 6 cc's will give me a 7.5 cc in a 10 cc band. This will help me maintain as I head to the states, for some training and a short vacation. Down to 105.8 kg from 121.1kg since Jan 10. Pant's size now is 48, down from 54. Shirt size down from 3x to 1x, all at the 7 month point after my surgery. Feeling great, always happy, lots of energy, enjoy work, fishing, gardening, and my dogs all six. Once heard in a movie, "Stuff is Getting Better" and that it is, I'm Loosing these unwanted #s. It's gradual like 1.68#s per week, but that is ok. Sometimes the weight lingers and holds on for a long while, but then out of the blue, it begins to drop. I have not routinely exercised, but will do so beginning tonight. Going to ride my stationary bike for 40 min to 1 hr. Time to get moving as my anniversary is approacing, 4 Jan 2011. I want to be at 100 kg. This is my GOAL for one year. My next goal will be to shed the #s to be at 170 #s. Ultimately I will try to reach 165 or even 160, then it's well, NEW CLOTHES for the NEW ME. One more goal will be to go to the pool and swim-my ultimate dream. Goals are reachable. To all bandsters, stay positive, be patient, and relax and enjoy the ride, it's fantastic, and unbelievable. God Bless.

That's interesting about the Gas-X. It just shows that everyone's body is different, and reminds me to keep an open mind about everything! Do you remember how long you felt bloated after the surgery? It's day 10 for me, and it's much better, but the top part of my belly still looks pregnant! Also, MBoulis, do you remember how long you had to drink so slowly after surgery? Every day I'm having a harder time making myself do the 1/2 cup in a half hour. I tried to call Jolynn this morning, but she won't be back in the office till next week. I've been thinking about your $$ from the dr. office . . . Maybe you could just give a quick call and ask them to check their records, that you think you never rec'd the refund check. If you could get the money you have coming to you from that office, you might be able to get your fill sooner? Also, I wondered if the fills from Dr. C are close to the same cost as the fills from D&O. Jolynn said they are around $150. Does that seem about right to you? Apparantly, my insurance company (Medical Mutual) is a real pain to get fills approved. This shouldn't be a surprise to me since I've waited almost 2 years for the band! Thanks again for all your info! Have a nice Memorial Day weekend, Lisa

    Dr. Timothy Duckett

Hi there, Jackie, I will have my pre-op consult with Dr. Oweis on May 4. The first time I met with him was October '05. I was denied by insurance and working on approval since then . . . I'm feeling better about the 'competence issue' since the last time we talked/typed! I figure they've been doing it for over 5 years, like you mentioned about your seminar, they really seem to be knowledgeable about band placement to avoid complications, etc. I also figure St. Luke's would pull the program if it was a liability to them! I start some of the pre-op testing next Monday, 4/23. I'm getting excited again (more than nervous like I was before). I've been having dreams about it . . . One was that my husband wanted to take another job, maybe I got that from you! Tomorrow I have to start the 1200 calorie diet, in addition to the extra chewing, and not drinking with the meals. I've done surprisingly well with it so far! I have two children, my son is 10 and my daughter will be 9 on May 12. We're going to have her party a week early so I don't have to worry about it so close to surgery. Yes, I've battled weight most of my life. It had been just the later years that I passed the 200lb. mark. I weighed about 135 when I was married 12 years ago, but I had lost 20 - 30 lbs to get there. Within the year, I was in the 160's, constantly yo-yo-ing. I got up to 200 during my pregnancies, but got back down to the 140's with phen-fen after each one. Of course, the weight loss never lasted long. After each loss came a bigger regain. I feel so tired, ache all the time, and so ashamed of my appearance. Not to mention taking a ton of ibuprofen to deal with the joint pain. Congratulations on going back to school for your RN! I've always thought I'd enjoy being a nurse, but the science scares me! I got my Bachelor's degree in business, and avoided science classes like the plague. My sister-in-law is an RN and makes great money and has a great schedule. She works for Macgruder Hospital in Port Clinton. Have a great week, 'type' to you later!! -Lisa
  9. Surgery was Wednesday and it went well. But I am struggling with nausea and vomiting. I have only been able to keep down a few ounces of liquid a day. I finally got my Dr office to call me in some phenergan but I vomited about 10 minutes after I took it. The Medical Assistant tells my I don't need phenergan just take Reglan, Symax, and Prilosec and I will be fine. I am ready to strangle her. It defeats the purpose of taking these meds if I just vomit shortly after taking them. I am hoping today will be better. I definitely don't want to end up back in the hospital with dehydration. Any tips would be greatly appreciated since my Dr's office is not very helpful. __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com

    Feb. 23rd!

Hello... Im getting banded 2/22/10 and Im excited... I am down 10lbs. Im not going to lie, I have creating alittle on my 2wk liquid diet. 20lbs already??? You are doing execellent.
  11. I am now 2 pounds away from my first goal. I had originally set the goal date for Thanksgiving, but I just picked that date sort of randomly. I'm still really happy with my progress. I'm down 47 pounds and my BMI has decreased by 8! I am noticing that I am wearing clothes that I haven't been able to wear in years. I've had two fills and am scheduled for the next one over the Christmas break. I am also finally making progress on my scheme to take over the world, I mean... get a job. I have been substituting in my district in hopes of getting a long term sub position and turning it into a full contract Teaching position by next year. My long term sub position begins Jan 10. (Earlier if the teacher I'm replacing delivers earlier.) As soon as she is scheduled to return to work, another teacher is scheduled to go on maternity leave. So I am probably set until the end of this school year. Now... just to convince them that they need to hire me permanently! I have to admit, though, there is something to be said for the flexibility I have in my schedule as a day to day sub...

  19. Hello All! I am over a year post op and just got restriction! What a mess! So the last time I went in I had to be honest with them I was able to eat just about anything.. I was worried that my band wasnt working! Well I was wrong what happened was one of the times I got a fill it must not have went in the band.. going in I thought I had 13.8 cc in a 14 band Thats why I was worried but no they one got out a little over 6 cc.. So they filled me to 10 cc and now I have had to be careful. so my question is how do you know if I need another fill. I can eat and seem to have restriction but alot of things get stuck. I think at first I was eating to fast.. now things dont get as stuck! any advice?

    aug 12 been sleeved

I was sleeved on 8/10/11. I had 1 day stay in hospitial. I slept the majority of the first 3 days. Yesterday was the first day able to stay awake all day. Each day has gotten better and seem to get more energy with each day. It was almost like recovering from a very bad case of the flu (in regards to energy level). I go and have staples removed tomorrow. I find it difficult drinking the G2 as I was a devoted water drinker prior to surgery. As each day passes I am able to get in more fluids. I was very concerned about making sure I took in enough fluids. So far so good. Plan to return to work on Wed. My husband and I went downtown and walked through the shops today and had a wonderful time. I was able to make in through several shops and had a great time spending time with my husband. Also love the antique shops

    8 More Days

Hi, don't worry, it works, I am like you started out at 270, and I am 5 ft 4 in. Lost 50 since Jan 2010. This surgery is great and it works, plus one thing to remember is it's long term meaning that you will loose but not all in one month. I average 5.6 #s loss a month. No problem eating just eat smaller portions--stick to the lap band diet. You should not get stuck on liquids or musshies. Only solids get stuck if you do not chew, chew, chew. I have had a few experiences--I tested the limits of my band--yes there are limits and you will know--it will come back up. When something gets stuck it does hurt for a while-10 to 30 min. YOU WILL LOOSE WEIGHT. Oh the procedure for lapband surgery in Korea costs, about 7, 000.00 dollars or a little less. People for Canada come to Korea for this surgery too. Pass the word, take a vacation to South Korea and have the surgery, spend a few weeks in the Land of the Morning Calm. Read my blogs and you will see what the benefits are of the surgery. There are many others on this site who are doing well. Some loose more #s than others during the journey, just be PATIENT AND ENJOY THE RIDE.

A major step closer..the good, the bad and the ugly..

This past Thursday I had my psych appt. As I sat in my truck finishing up the last few pages of the booklet I was told to fill out before my appointment, I wondered what I was walking into since I have seen posts that describe it as a simple discussion with a doctor and others as a series of tests. The waiting room was filled with other hopeful WLS patients and after a 10 minute wait I was weighed (lost 6 lbs!- the good) and taken back to an office with the shrink and a student who was there for observation. (I said I didnt mind) She reviewed my questionaire and pretty much asked me questions based on my answers. It was simple enough but based on my very honest answers, she suggested I seek counseling based on my past history of depression for at least 6 months after surgery despite the fact I told her my depression was situational and I am very excited about the surgery. She also suggested I return to taking medication I had been prescribed (and honestly never took) and told me she wanted me to have whoever I decided to see to call her. I guess to confirm that I had followed her instruction. She told me she would recoommend that I get the surgery based on the fact I seem to have educated myself enough about the process, but I think her assessment was based more of how SHE felt about what I had shared with her and now how I was telling her about how I felt. She was nice enough but I did not totally agree with her suggestions. (the bad) Seeing someone wasnt the problem since I decided to visit a counselor I had in the past that I had grown to really like and who I know had battled her own weight problems. Taking the meds however was not something I wanted to do since I never really took the prescribed medications. The next day, however, I got up and took one of the little blue pillsbefore I went to work figuring it may be a preventive measure for the depression she said many patients sufffer from after surgery. Within a half hour of arriving at work, I felt very sleepy. An hour after that I felt angry and cranky. Within a half hour I felt my emotions going haywire and I started to cry:crying:. Realizing something was wrong, I went to my best friend and simply asked her to help me because something was wrong. She calmed me down, I returned to my desk and minutes later started to have a panic attack. My husband eventually was called to pick me up and I went home. I cried in the car all the way home and by the time I calmed down really felt depressed. The rest of my Friday was spent in the bed trying to sleep off the drug that was supposed to "help" me. On Saturday I woke up with a migrane from hell and ended up laying around for the better part of the morning. By the time I felt well enough to get out of bed, I was starving and ended up eating like it was my last meal. Needless to say, that really pissed me off (with myself) when I realized I had totally lost control. I am not quite sure what happened, but I am guessing because my chemical levels were fine, taking a drug that is supposed to change those levels, sent my body into a frenzy. I had called my PCP but she was on vacation and her back up called me back after I had left work. I will call back on Monday. One thing for certain...no more drugs until I see my PCP. If my PCP agrees with the shrink, I will let her handle it because its possible she can give me something else or a very low dosage. My willingness to do whatever it takes to comply with suggestions of medical professionals in an effort to get my surgery has made me more open to doing things I wouldnt have otherwise, because failure is NOT AN OPTION for me. But that episode on Friday has reminded me that no one knows me the way I know myself and I have to have more faith in God and myself to be a success. When I first started this journey, I prayed about it and said, if it isnt in God's plan, it will not simply happen. Since then I have had successes, failures, doubts and fears that have made me wonder. But on Friday, as a friend held me as I sobbed like a baby, she said a prayer in my ear and it brought me some peace and when I look back today, a reminder that no matter what happens on this journey, in the end, its all part of God's plan so I only need to have faith.

    Dentures?

I find it really difficult chewing with my dentures. This was an issue before, now it's ×10. I don't want to blend everything. Anyone with uppers have this issue? If so do you have any suggestions?
