Wow that sounds really good for your little tummy.......The most important thing to work on is getting your fluid intake in. Your protein drinks are also counted as liquids at this early out. When I was 2 weeks out, I was getting about 300 calories in, and most of it was from my protein shakes.
  3. Hello everyone! I'm not typically one to participate in forums, but this is pretty important so I need to get advice from others that have had the same procedure. I've decided with my surgeon to do the Sleeve procedure next month since I travel often for business and it is tough to fit follow up visits on my calendar. I'm a little freaked out by the fact that I will be on a liquid diet for 4-6 weeks. I'm also concerned about the pain post-surgery. Any suggestions or advice?
  4. Once again, Star is right on the money!! You will always have a tool to help you control your portions, but what makes up those portions is up to you. My weakness is cheetos, so I control that urge by allowing myself a single-serving bag of them once a month. That's what works for me. Other than that, I don't keep them in the house. For me, the first six months were rocket-like as far as weight loss. I dropped weight like crazy. At about 7 months out, I hit a plateau, which was a weight that I stayed at for nearly 10 years on my way up the scale. My weight loss, in pounds, slowed way down. BUT, once the weight loss slowed down, I started shape-shifting. I can almost watch my body change from week to week, and my measurements and clothes sizes reinforce that. I started in a 24/26 and I'm now in a 14/16. I'd be in a smaller size pants, but I have a bit of a tummy still. One thing that really affects how fast I lose pounds is that I got really serious about exercise. I have muscle and definition in places I didn't know I could have muscle and definition before. I had a body fat analysis at my doctor's office recently and it shows that I am within .01% of the amount of muscle I should have in my body for my height, even though my BMI is still in the obese category. That means that I am converting fat to muscle with exercise and that I've managed to protect my heart muscle from significant damage from rapid weight loss. That was a major worry of mine. My pulmonologist is also thrilled with my improved cardio fitness. The sleeve is a tool, but if you work it right, you'll be able to reach goal and to reach goal in a healthy manner. After all, it's not just about the pounds; it's also about enjoying your life and all of the newfound abilities that come with weight loss. If you're not sure what I'm referring to, please visit the "powder Room" and "Man Room" forums here on VST! Good luck on your journey!!
  5. Sorry about your pain. My surgeon sent me home with a very large elastic band that wrapped completely around my midsection. I think you can buy them at the drug store. I wore that thing for two weeks and had hardly any problems. Best wishes!!!
  6. When I had my surgery I did the entire thing by myself. I stayed in the hospital for the required three days, I drove my butt to the hospital and home from the hospital and then I took care of myself 100% when I got home. If you don't have kids that need a parent around, you really don't need your husband. If you're leery about driving yourself home, you can have a friend pick you up from the hospital and take you home. Physically you do not need anyone to do this surgery, although I imagine emotionally having your husband there would be nice. If I was you I would tell my husband to stay with his mother and do exactly what I did, except maybe with the exclusion of having a friend drive you home. If you want surgery, get surgery and get it on the date you have planned. Imagine how awesome your husband will think you are when he finds out you are fully capable of handling this entirely on your own...I bet he comes running right home to you and you don't have to play the needy card once.

    Scared!!!

I had my surgery in April of 2006. I had my gallbladder out in October of 2006, and a hysterectomy in March of 2007. In that time I lost 86lbs. I have not lost any weight since November of 2007. I have been complaining to my doctor since that time. He just kept giving me fills. I usually feel the restriction for about 2-3 weeks then I lose it. I also told my doctor this. He responded with joining a support group (thats why I'm on this site-by the way its been very helpful reading about all of you-THANKS) My doctor also said to go to a nutrictionist-which I did. Still no weight loss and NO restriction. I can eat a whole sandwhich ,2-3 slices of pizza, I can eat all day long, like before the surgery, I've already gained 10lbs. back. I have an appointment with my Doctor on April 4th. He is going to pull my fills out (I have 3.8 in a 4CC band) to see how much is in there and then he said we will take it from there. But I have to admit I am terrified!! Has anyone lost their restriction? Talk to me please! Is this as good as it gets for me-Am I done with the band-I am still about 100lbs over weight.:confused::crying::confused:

    Pills

You won't have any problems with small pills, even right after surgery. I moved back to non-gummy Vitamins about 12 weeks out and have done fine. What I don't do any more is take several pills at a time (I used to gulp down a Vitamin, allergy and PPI at one time). Sent from my iPad using VST
  9. Hey I am entering into weeks 3-4 of my post op diet. The literature provided states I am allowed pureed food but says I should eat 3-6 tablspoons per sitting and I am to have 5-6 sittings. Does this apply even when the band hasn't been filled? Is this because of the swelling inside? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I want to make sure I am doing this right!
  10. I see my doctor tomorrow for my history and physical. Then I get a surgery date! Yayy! I threw my phone a week ago cause I was fighting with my husband. Anyway.... I know have fitness pal and would love to add whomever would let me add them. Scoot over on the losers bench I am on my wayyyyyy! Thanks in advance.
  11. I am going back to college soon as a sophomore, living in the dorms. I am an RA on campus and have my own room. I will have three weeks after surgery to recover and get back to everyday living at school. BUT we are not allowed to have our own microwave, stove, oven, etc. it is going to be incredibly hard for me to make the healthy foods I am supposed to be eating. What am I supposed to do?! Does anyone else have/had this problem? What did you do? I am very afraid I will be stuck and not have the option I would at home. please help!
  12. Today I Celebrate 2 months post-op. I started the journey at 192 and am now happily weighing in at 156. The last week has been a little tough. I'm finally feeling less restriction and I have to be a bit more conscious of what I eat. I'm able to eat less food but learned that I still definitely need to watch the carbs, they are the devil! Life is so much better. The holidays were just great. I didn't worry about what to wear and how it felt. Instead of celebrating with food, I am learning to celebrate with fellowship -- really learning to enjoy people! I'm still getting used to all the attention I'm getting but it's way better than the attention I used to get. "You have such a pretty face, have you ever thought about losing some weight?". Yes, I've heard that a few times. These days life is good. I'm learning to love the new me. Shopping for clothes that are not plus size is so much fun. Just after Thanksgiving I cleaned out my closet and now I'm slowly buying all new clothes. The Christmas sales were great. If you are considering gastric sleeve, take it from me, it's the best thing I've ever done for my health and my self-esteem. Did I mention I am prescription medication free? Yep, after 13 years of diabetes and high blood pressure, I am completely free from both. Well, that's my story and I can't wait to see what the next two months will bring. Blessings~

    Struggling !

My dietician acknowledged that it was almost impossible to get all the Protein in the first while post surgery. After surgery I wasn't getting 32 ish oz of fluids in plus my shake. I'm at 7 weeks now and just hitting 64 plus shake. I've been close for a while though. I found warm liquids went down better in the beginning. Good luck

It's no biggie but they didn't give me a preop and I'm surprised about that coz I was 277 and 5'5". My surgeon was Dr. Atkinson. Weight loss center. Had my surgery at Desert Inn hospital on the 5th of this month. I followed orders the first two weeks but I don't follow to a t anymore. That's bad. I still get all my Protein in but I had pain popcorn (not supposed to) and I had alcohol one night (not supposed to). Other than that, it's going great. When I first woke up, I immediately regretted it but now I am so glad I did it. I went back to work 3 days after. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    First Appointment

It's a process, but nothing worth having comes easy. I would consider the pretesting and pre qualifying appts the easier part. Once you have surgery be sure to follow doctors instructions, stay focused, listen to your body and know that we are all here for you in this group! IT WILL NOT BE EASY... But the reward will be great. I'm 5 weeks post op and I've lost 42 pounds as of the 18th. I don't weigh myself regularly (personal choice) so I'm sure I've lost more. Good luck on your journey!!! You'll do great. "In the end we only regret the chances that we didn't take."

    Losing too fast?

I'm sure I'll hit a stall. I'm just concerned with permanently damaging my metabolism. I guess I'll just stick to it.

Wow congrats! You are doing good. I am taking two weeks off because I'm not sure how I will handle all the pain and I work in an office sitting all day might make it even more painful. I think my surgery is at sunrise but I'll find out more details tomorrow.

    What Not to Do!

37th wedding anniversary. Had 1,500 calories for just dinner! Oh well there is always tomorrow. I have lost 130 lbs since July 30, 2012, but today I splurged. I am only at 3.8 in 14 cc Realize band and have absolutely no restriction to date. I am going to get another fill next week, so hopefully I will be better off with being satisfied with smaller portions and wiser selections. On the plus side i ate a lot of protein with dinner. Guess I will shoot for negative calories tomorrow.

Nerves Getting The Best Of Me!

I'm getting sleeved next week and I'm very nervous but usually when I'm nervous or ready to freak out, I tend to get very quiet and do my deep breathing exercises. I used to listen to relaxation CDs when I would have anxiety before bed and it really helps me clear my mind and stay calm. I also did hypnosis with the home birth of my 3rd child and it really conditioned me to stay calm and relax. I haven't had a anxiety attack since learning these techniques. I'm more worried about the breathing tube more than anything because anything that could possibly irritate my throat and make it swell tends make me want to freak out. I know I will be fine though
  22. Hi White! I wasn't banded on Oct 12, but I was banded on Oct 26 so we're pretty close. I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations with being hungry...can you get another fill earlier? I also have a 4 cc band and I am filled to 2.1 cc and I still haven't found the perfect restriction yet. Sometimes it takes a few fills to hit your sweet spot. As far as menus...try to eat your Protein first, veggies second and then carbs if you have room. Of course I'm not perfect with eating either...it takes a lot of work and there have been a couple of weeks where I have gained. I live alone so I usually don't cook big meals, but I eat a lot of chilli, tuna, egg salad, hamburger, and shredded chicken for protein. I also eat a lot of salad with chicken, hard boiled eggs, bacon. There is also a food thread with lots of suggestions. I find I have to make an effort to prepare my food a little bit more, but that way I make better choices. There is also a thread for people who were banded in October and it's great to be able to talk to others who are going through similar issues. Here's the link http://www.lapbandtalk.com/october-bandsters-t23737p95.html I hope this helps!! Good luck.

    The flipside of love

OK...so took a step in the right direction. As you may or may not know, NYC apartment kitchens are not like on TV or in the movies. They are tiny tiny rooms with minimal storage. I ordered a blender so I could use it for smoothies. I know that these drinks can also be calorie laden but I will make sure they are healthy and not full of empty calories. In order to have room for the blender, I had to go through my one storage cabinet and start to get rid of things. Tossed some of the pots I know I don't need...and got rid of a large colander as well. These items were used by me for mostly Pasta related cooking. These days, a small strainer and small saucepan is enough as I never cook more than a cup of pasta at one time. Then that cup is portioned out and frozen into 1/4 cup amounts. So, as I started to rid myself of some of these items, I took stock of what has changed in the nearly three years since I've used the big pot and colander. I haven't binged on pasta in all that time. Didn't eat till I was stupified as I had done. I recalled how I'd limp home..in terrible pain, just to eat to excess knowing that I was only making my condition worse. So the pots are now gone, and so is the joint pain. So is 145 lbs. So is all my fat clothes. What has changed? I move normally. I fit everywhere. I'm not ashamed of my size. I can sit on the floor with my grandson and play with him. I'll be able to climb the monkey bars with him as well when he's old enough to go to the playground. I can put him on my lap as I now have one. I wear pretty clothes. I wear makeup, do my nails, hair, etc. Men notice me. One man in particular notices me and I'm very happy with him so far. I sleep in someone's arms again. Oh how I missed that. Basically, when you add up the pluses and minuses, life without eating to excess is certainly a better thing than a big bowl of spaghetti and sauce. I'll get this thing under control...I know I will. I can't ever let myself get the way I was. And with folks like me, ten pounds might as well be 110 pounds. Thank you friends for your comments. I appreciate your support..I need your support.

    1st appointment with surgeon

I had my appointment to meet up with my surgeon on base. It was actually a class full of people sitting down at desks while 2 surgeons talked and explained everything. it was very informative and we filled out a booklet of questions.. which asked about previous diets and stuff like that... N e ways the surgeons were really laid back and supportive towards everyone getting the surgery.. which was a surprise because military docs can be real stuck up a holes that judge... but these were understanding and supported the surgery all the way. They want me to log everything that i eat from now on... yea soo im gonna start tommorrow.. they also said that it is reccommended that we go on a high protein shake diet 2 weeks prior but they were really laid back about it. They basiclly said we could eat too but the surgeon would appreciate the protein shake diet for a smaller liver.. basiclly they didnt even really care they just suggested it.. i dont know if they are being laid back now because its just the begining and they dont wanna scare me away....and then they will snap the whip and make me go through hell at last minute... but whatever it takes i am ready for. if im gonna go all out and get this surgery done I will be sucessfull and be an allstar and loose the weight... im just soo excited and driven to get this done... So basiclly the next steps will be to go to a nutrition class :scared2:and have a psych eval and then back to the surgeon for a second visit and to schedule an appointment. The surgeon said it would be about a month and a half to two month wait to get everything done and get the band put it... to me thats fast and i cant wait... IM SOOOO EXCITED AND I JUST CANT HIDE IT!!!! I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW IM GONNA GET BANDED!!!!! WHOOOO HOOOO....
