  1. Hi I was wondering if anyone had Cigna Connect with a band revising to Gastric bypass? Did they make you go thru the 3 month supervised diet? What if it was due to heartburn or a slip of t the band Long story short I've had a band approximately 4 yrs lost like 20 lbs despite following diet plan and exercise always hungry can eat whatever and get heartburn off and on but if I tighten the band it's constant I want to get bypass but remove the band at the same time Hoping not to have to go thru 3 month deal but can't find anything on this situation. I'm sort of preparing to go to Mexico to avoid it.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

hi Everyone... and welcome to the losers bench... i had VSG on 8/11/17. It was a revision from a 2007 Lapband which after 4 years stopped working (shhhh no one knows). No one knows about my VSG either except my hubby and mom.... i don't want to hear negative things... Anyways after 6 years of trying to do it all on my own and failing each time i decided to go under the knife again... i'm almost 4 weeks out... i feel great... no issues with me thank God. I can drink over 100 oz of liquid and maybe eat 5 or 6 oz... which i don't. i'm so scared of stretching myself out. Every time i'm doubting myself i come into the forums to see if someone else has the same questions/issues... In 2007 there really wasn't much information on anything or maybe i just didn't look. i was scare to share my experience and i didn't want people to know i had chosen the "easy" way out. it took me 3 years to loose almost 100 lbs only to fail myself again... but now as i'm older and hopefully wiser i will re train myself so i can succeed

How Much Liquids Is Too Much?

Hello everyone... I had VSG on 8/11/17. I had a revision from a lapband (shhh no one knows) that slipped and stopped working... so 10 years later i went back into surgery to get VSG... i was so scared when i got home and i was able to drink so much liquid, over 100 oz per day. Second week i felt head hunger i think... today has been bad... i fell very physically hungry. at noon i ate 1/2 a salmon and spicy tuna hand roll, should have weighted to see how many oz but i didn't and at 3 i had 3 oz of salmon and mashed potatoes... but i still feel hungry. I'm scare of failing again... i'm scare of stretching my sleeve after going through the pain and stigma. Anyways to all of you who are struggling please know that you are not alone... we all question and second guess ourselves based on others experiences... i'm trying to stay on track and just do what feel right for me.

    Gastric Sleeve to gastric bypass

I had a revision due to the GERD and heartburn, in the 9 months leading up to it, my surgeon started looking at some data and why there were so many revisions. His findings were that unlike priori where GERD and heartburn were not thought to be an issue passed down is now looking like it is. And due to that he has added new screening questions about more familial conditions that can come into play after the sleeve surgery if that is what what was being considered. And if there is even the slightest hint that it could be there he is opting for bypass.

    a moment of honesty

In one week, I'm having surgery. I have a sleeve, currently, and need to treat a rare condition called achalasia. So, to reduce complications from a myotomy, I am revising my sleeve to a modified gastric bypass. I'm getting a second chance at losing all the weight that I needed to lose from my sleeve. I was originally over 460 lbs (not by much, but that's as high as my doctors scale went at the time). I had my sleeve, lost about 150lbs and then got pregnant. I gained back, in total, about 70lbs in a year and a half of being pregnant and post partum. Then I got back on track. I was heading in the right direction until this achalasia started about a year ago. The condition has made it very difficult for me to eat, so in the past year since being sick, I've lost another 40ish lbs... so little because about the only thing I CAN consume comfortably are carbs. (Which I really don't appreciate at all post op WLS!) Currently, I'm about 320. I'm really trying to be optimistic about losing weight and fixing my issues with eating due to the medical condition - but being a previous WLS patient and knowing the realities of post op life, I'm having a hard time NOT focusing on how loose my skin will be, what I'll look like, how I'll afford clothes - something that didn't consume me so much before because I was single and childless and made decent money... but now I'm a mom, I have an SO (and he assures me that he loves me no matter what my body looks like), money is tight... it's all just so stressful. I have body issues to work on and don't know how to change my mindset of being so critical of myself. That's definitely part of it. But there is a part of me that was okay with not "being skinny". I lost enough weight to feel better about myself, look better, but still look like ME. I need to appreciate the change, I suppose. I just feel like I can't talk about all these things to anyone in my real life. They just don't understand. They can't relate! Can anyone here relate? How do you deal with your unshare-able thoughts?
  6. I'm also considering having my band removed and the plication taken down. I'm at the 4.5 year mark and having horrible reflux and some other discomfort. The reflux is so bad, I'm hoarse all the time and wake up coughing. I'm 62 and scared to revise to a RNY at my age. But I've gained about 30 of the 70 pounds I lost with the band, and I'm afraid I will gain all of it back; possibly more. I'm also scared that the band is doing damage. From those who have already done the revision, how long were you in the hospital and what was your recovery time? I'm self employed (work from home) and need to know how much time to plan. My doc said 2-3 days in the hospital and at least two weeks recovery. I'm interested to hear other's experiences.
  7. I'm 8 months out and experiencing my first stomach virus. I'm miserable. I've noticed that what I'm getting up and out (you see where I'm going with this) is minimal. I'm wondering if because of this the virus is taking longer to move through my system. This is day 4. Wahhhh Has anyone experienced the stomach virus post surgery and had the same experience? Any advise appreciated. Thanks! Band to sleeve revision surgery 1/16/17 HW: 283 CW: 184 GW: 160

    Bariatric Vegetarian Life

Great! Glad you'll be bringing the protein on board. Don't replace your meals, just add the shakes. You want to be consuming at least 1200 calories a day. In order to help more, I need a bit more info. Your height, weight, reason for the revision.. current caloric consumption, exercise habits.
  9. I've been on the road to revision from Band to RNY since October 2015. It's a loooong story. Here are the best parts: After finally qualifying with my surgeon for revision surgery in November 2016, I was denied coverage by my insurance carrier (BCBS IL) on 11/30/2016. My surgeon did a peer-to-peer review on 2/1/2017 which was denied as well. Since I only had 180 days from the original denial to file an appeal, I knew I had to do something drastic. In April I hired Kelley & Walter Lindstrom from the LINDSTROM OBESITY ADVOCACY group. They're lawyers who have specialized in WLS appeals. From April to June we had to go through a 2nd level of appeals which was again denied. At the end of July, my case finally went to an external review board. I received my official approval on September 1st, 2017!! Throughout this whole process, Kelley has stayed in close contact - keeping me apprised of each step and calming my fears. When I first applied to them she told me they would only accept my case if they thought they could make a difference. Both her and her husband were so helpful and caring. They have a real passion for helping people get the WLS they need. If you're having issues with your insurance company, please consider them. I think you'll be very happy with the results! http://wlsappeals.com/ https://www.facebook.com/LindstromObesityAdvocacy/
  10. It had to go to external review but I'm now APPROVED for revision from Band to RNY!!!! I can't say enough positive things about Kelley & Walter Lindstrom at Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy. If you find yourself stuck with denials from insurance companies, I highly recommend them!

    Stomach Stretching is a Myth

Stretching is a myth unless you had a bad surgeon, which from a lot of the posts I read here is seems very possible for a lot of people. RNY pouches can definitely stretch though. and they can make extended stomachs at the top of the intestine. A properly formed sleeve does not stretch. Healing is not stretching. My capacity at over 2 years is exactly the same as it was at 6 months. 4 ounces of dense protein, is the max I can eat comfortably. That is if I follow my post-op eating instructions which are to eat protein FIRST. If I eat protein alone/first. I can eat 4 ounces maybe 5 if it has more fat, but honestly 5 is uncomfortable. If I eat it alternating bites with veggies I can eat 6 maybe even 8 ounces of protein. Which is why post-op instructions are to eat protein first. If I eat meat with veggies and take sips of water, I can eat as much as anyone else (because I am turning dense protein into a slider). If I eat something that is not dense protein, like a burger, I can easily eat a 6 ounce burger with cheese. If I eat something that breaks down easy like a crispy thin crust pizza, its a slider. I could eat a whole large thin crust pizza in an hour. That is grazing though, so that doesn't count. Eating sliders and grazing are breaking the rules but I could. What people call stretching is really just bad food choices and poor eating habits. I have never seen anyone say they pounded down a 16 ounce ribeye, except that one dude that claimed he ate like a 20 ounce steak at 6 weeks or something. Dr Wiener tries to educate people on proper eating habits for life. If you are not eating correctly all the sleeve tightening, and revisions will not save you. People can eat around any surgery. The best thing is to eat properly, in the correct order. Prior to surgery I would go to Steak N Shake and eat a double, a triple and 2 orders of fries. I used to be able to consume massive amounts of food. I really just can't eat like that all, IF I FOLLOW THE RULES. If I don't follow the rules I can totally eat a ton of food. I could easily eat 1/2 a double layer cake if I wanted to, in 30 minutes to an hour, nothing will stop me, it is just mush. This is why following your post-op eating instructions for the first 6 months are really important. Not only are they a prescription diet to prevent complications but those instructions also re-train you on eating like you are a baby so you can learn new habits. With your surgery restriction, metabolic reset and rapid weight loss as tools and motivators to help you learn and stick to them. When people are a week or two out, sneaking food and talking about their body knows it needs and all that other drama, they are just cheating themselves out of their chance for an easy reset. And yes it is easy, losing weight immediately after weight loss surgery is the fastest and easy weight loss you are ever going to have in your life and you only get one real chance at it, revisions don't lost as fast as first timers. So don't blow it.

    Rate of weight loss?

I'm basically having the wls surgery (I'm in the same dlimea as you are that I'm not sure which one) I have co-morbites, I have type 2 diabetes, slightly high cholesterol and hypertension. I weigh 210 standing at 5'9, most people would look at me and laugh about me having any type of wls but it's more about my health concerns and finally getting rid of diabetes to preserve my life. I had the lap band for 7 years and i may have lost 20 pounds over that time period, so needles to say it wasn't as successful as I thought it would be and now I'm hearing that it's not being used much anymore becauseof it's poor results. I had it removed on 8/15/2017. I am going on 9/12/17 to discuss revision. I vomiting sooo much over the years with the band and am afraid of getting the gastric bypass which can not be reversed and the same issues. However I know the best option for making my health concerns go away is the gastric bypass. I did read somewhere that doctors are trying to develop something called bypass the bypass and address people that have more of health issues than weight issues. I still would love to see 160-170 pounds again so wls will be twofold for me.
  13. What your Mom is experiencing isn't common. However, other complications happen fairly regularly that require revisions. So she's not alone in having to have a second procedure. I think virtually every revision I've heard of has gone wonderfully, and the patient is much happier with the result. We'll keep our fingers crossed that the same will be the case for your Mom. Try not to freak out. Surgeons handle these types of things all the time, and that's the important thing, right? [Hugs]
  14. I'm sorry you need a revision. I never want to go through a sleeve or sleeve type surgery again. You really should not have had a VSG with severe GERD pre-op. In my opinion you shouldn't even have to pay for the revision. I never had GERD before surgery (8/23) and I definitely have it for now even with a PPI. It is relatively mild and still miserable. I feel for you. [emoji171]
  15. Hi everyone. I am new here. I had sleeve surgery in Feb of 2015. Going for a revision to get either sleeve or gb on 9-11(was supposed to get gb in 1st place...). My life has been crazy finding healthy low carb high protein foods after surgery. I am a ovo vegetarian (sleeve mad me lactose intolerant). I'm making this group for anyone in same condition as me or anyone in general. We can all help eachother. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Anyone Use Tricare?

Thank you for answering. I am not using a base dr or hospital so I'm hoping there aren't any surprises. I've had pretty decent luck with Tricare so far. Good luck with your revision surgery. May I ask why you need this additional surgery - is it common with bariatric or due to issues with your first surgeon?
  17. I'm 17 days out from a sleeve to bypass revision (sleeve was 18 months ago) and I've been having abdominal pain for 2 days. I put it down to constipation, but that has since passed, yet the pain is still there. It's fairly low in my abdomen, just below my navel. It comes in waves, being uncomfortable all the time, but every few minutes there's a wave of pain at around a 7-8 on the pain scale. It comes and goes through the day, if I am tense it hurts more, and kind of feels like muscle spasms. I'm still on the puree stage, but have been a bit lax with it over the weekend, so put it down to that. Today I've been careful and stuck to liquids, but the pain hasn't changed. No fever, nothing else worrying, it's just very uncomfortable and significantly painful from time to time. My thinking is that maybe it's still constipation, or something like that, but I'm worried in case it's something more significant. I've had some nausea, but not much, and I'm also aware that it hurts more the more I worry about it! Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  18. HI everyone. I had a Lap band to a Mini Bypass revision on July 5th. So far. I have lost 23 pounds, but somehow I keep feeling that it should be a bit more. after some difficulty in the first two months with my eating. With a lot of food rejection, I now feel that I can eat quite well. I can eat a small size of fish, or one whole very well cooked and soft chicken thigh. I avoid carbohydrates to maybe one dry diet cracker in the morning with cottage and s bit at lunch (at the most have half a potato or a spoonful of carrots or zucchini with the protein) and concentrate on the protein. I walk a lot on my job (I am a tour guide) sometimes for two whole hours.. I try to drink enough ( I usually mix water with sugarless ice tea powder, as flavoured water goes down easier for me ) I completely avoid sweets, pasta, bread, and eat very little fruit. Also I am not experiencing any cravings really, and because I am eating protein 3 times a day I think that I am getting enough protein and still the weight loss seems to stall. Or am I being unrealistic?? Or maybe I am doing something wrong? Last week. I was at 24 pounds less, this week it came back to 23., I am starting to feel frustrated with this up and down effect!! I would really appreciate some feedback from those of you who went through this before, and how you managed to overcome this! For the record, as this might be an important detail, I am 61. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read and answer. All the best to everyone. Sent from my D6603 using BariatricPal mobile app Sent from my D6603 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Anyone Use Tricare?

I have Tricare and I am scheduled for a revision on September the 26th. My first surgery was through private insurance. I was trying to approved through my insurance through my job for almost 3 years. My doctor on base said Tricare would approve with just his recommendation. I went through the tests he suggested and he also wanted my surgery report from first surgery but I was unable to get it. My first attempt for revision the base doctors said there was nothing wrong with me. I even received a call from someone who was on panel that reviews surgery cases who basically told me to give up. My doctor said approval would be easy as long as I meet the requirements. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
