    Nsv At Work

    thats such a fabulous NSV!!!!!
  2. I was chatting with a work colleague who I respect for her straight talking. She is one of the few here who know I have had the band. She asked how much weight I have lost and how I am feeling. I was my (new) positive self and told her how great I was feeling, what a fantastic ride I had to work this morning etc. Her next comment stunned me! She told me that in the past, i.e. pre-band days, I would only ever talk about how sick I was or how much my knees ached. While it might sound negative, it was a real reminder of just how far I have come and how much changing my life for the better is also have a positive effect on others. I publicly apologise to all those who I had brought down with my misery guts outlook on life in the past. Life is glorious!

    What a great NSV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Had my 6 month post op appt on Wednesday. Went FANTASTIC, but still in this stupid stall. Officially 3 weeks on Wednesday. So so annoying. Really ready to have it break so I can get on with it. Have to get bloodwork done, but all vitals and stats look excellent. Happy with my progress and my NSVs and my improved health. My dietician told me to keep my calories between 1100 - 1200 per day and add 2 days of weight training to my workout routine. I was doing light weights and cardio 5 days per week and she said to add the weight training to the 2 days I'm not working out. She said my diet and drinks and Snacks are all good, the amount and frequency I'm eating are good. So hopefully this will help. Today was my first day doing it. This stall is just driving me nuts. She also said if I get to 5 weeks, it's considered a plateau at that point and not a stall anymore. And then there's different things I would need to do if I'm in a plateau. Hope it doesn't get to that. I know stalls are normal, but I haven't even lost 100 pounds yet, and I'm nowhere near my goal, so slowing down this much at this point is really frustrating. Just gonna keep on keepin on until the stall breaks and the scale makes me happy again.
  6. Disney Nut, that is fantastic, what a huge NSV. We're a big Disney family, too, but in California...my daughter actually works at one of the parks. I don't go as often as I did when the kids were younger, but I did go last week...and boy, were my feet, ankles and knees KILLING me after the day was done (i'm still pre-op). Can't WAIT to be in your shoes, YAY for you :-)

Needed some reasons to smile today

So I had a rough weekend. I got to add soft food to my diet on Friday. One would think that after three weeks of not eating any "real" food that it would be great, and it was! I got up on Saturday and I was up a pound from where I was Friday morning. Now, I know that my body is saying "Hey! I finally got some food, I need to hang on to it cause I don't know when I'll get the next round," and that is why the scales haven't been really nice this weekend. I still am bouncing around the same stupid half pound since Friday and its just frustrating. In my "previous life" I would have been irritated and just eaten something that I shouldn't have to justify the increase on the scales. Now, I didn't do anything or eat anything I shouldn't have but, boy, did I have a battle with head hunger all weekend. One of my favorite places to eat used to be Moe's, my husband has never really cared for it and I think that we have eaten there together just once in the past 5 years. Yesterday I had to run across town and what does he ask me to bring him back for supper?? MOE'S!! i couldn't believe it and it just plain made me mad when I had to go in there and order his burrito. I wanted one so bad but instead, I ordered his just like he asked (with absolutely nothing that could be considered healthy on it) and brought it home to him. I fixed my supper and was satisfied with it. My dad used to say that it didn't matter if you got full off of black eyed peas or steak and potatoes either way you were still full. That is very true, steak and potatoes just taste much better, as would have Moe's last night. Anyway, I needed something to take my mind off of the negative and I figured I'd list the NSV's that I could think of to lift my spirits a little 1. I can get my wedding rings on again, I haven't been able to wear them individually since last June and it has probably been more than a year since I have been able to get both of them on at the same time. 2. I already have a pair of pants that are too big and I can no longer wear (at least my husband refuses to be seen in public with me if I do!) 3. Its easier to shave my arm pits cause they aren't so full. 4. I can bend over to paint my own toe nails again! 5. The seatbelt in my husbands truck doesn't lock just because I'm trying to put it on and pulled it out a little too far anymore. I can actually bend down and pick my purse up from the floorboard and it doesn't lock! 6. I can put on and tie my shoes with almost no effort. 7. I have bad breath. (Okay so maybe that one isn't so exciting but apparently when you are breaking down fat you get ketosis which causes halitosis aka bad breath. I must be doing good breaking it down cause even my 5 year old tells me my breath is stinky! LOL!) I know there are more but these are all I can think of right now. I'm going to keep working at it and keep working my tool. I know that I did the right thing and I know that I'll be able to eat more normally again some day. I did this for my kids and they are going to have a more amazing mom because of it.

Thank you Dave, was wondering the same thing. Now I'm longing for NSV of my own. Wanna

    What's an NSV?

    Unexpected NSV

Non scale Victory. When something good happens that isn't about what the scale says. Things like compliments from others, fitting into an airline seat, crossing your legs without cutting off circulation, sitting comfortably at a restaurant booth, and such. NSV's happen when you least expect them, but they really make you feel good. Dave
  11. 11/9/08 I’ve already begun to pull clothes out of my closet I haven’t worn in years. And that started just a week post-op and continues. I can’t believe it. I am already ….um…..more comfortable with my husband. Okay that was kind of weird putting that down. I’ve moved to weighing myself on the Wii Fit. It says that I’ve lost a total of 27 lbs and I’ve got from a BMI of 49 to 44.11. That is amazing! I was embarrassed of my BMI even on the boards, but I feel more “normal” for a new bandster now. I’ve upped my calories to 1000-1200 per day. I think that is where I need to be to keep the weight moving and I plan to start back to the gym this week. I haven’t gone to the gym regularly since about May. I hope that will jump start my weight loss even more. I still worry about my port and band and I can’t wait until my first fill. Not just for the fill but to be reassured that everything is ok with my port and band. I don’t know what I will do if I need a revision. Self pay means I definitely have to worry about that stuff!

    NSV

Walking up a hill was a huge nsv for me. And i didn't realize i did it until my boyfriend bought it up after we walked up it. He said "you just walked up hill and didn't complain once. You are usually throwing a fit before we even get to it." But truth be told i didn't even notice. I wasn't even winded. It's a beautiful feeling isn't it? lol Sent from my SM-G925T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Fitness Nsv

New fitness NSV's - My buddy and I ran for over 3 miles again, she said we were around a 5K. Also, I ran a mile by myself at the gym on the treadmill and it was no big deal, I wasn't even winded and part of it was done on incline! And my third fitness NSV - I did a crossfit class and it was awesome! I wish it wasn't so expensive or I would become an immediate devotee =)
  16. great job you will have many more moments in the next few months. getting into jeans without a struggle was one of my first nsv's. keep on doing what you are doing...

    100 + forum?

I just have to say that whey I need a little pick me up this is a great place to be. I don't really know where I want my weight to be but I know I have over 100 pounds to loss since I started @ 316.8. I have set my first goal at 180 don't know why just that it was a reachable number and under 200. So far in just over 4 months I have lost 60 pounds and this is the less I have weighed in years! I love that my clothes don't fit me anymore. I hate the idea of buying new thought. (Thats the give and take I guess) My wedding bands and mothers ring are almost too big for me. I flew for the first time in Sept since surgery and I didn't need a seat belt extender. I love thinking of NSV and this is the first time I have written them down somewhere. I guess there could be others but these are the ones that stick out in my mind. Hope everyone is doing great and hang in there Brenda you will be losing again before you know it. Plus when you figure out what you need to do you can post it here and when we get stuck we can look at your advice. Here is what helps me now.... I write down EVERYTHING that goes in my mouth along with the calories. This keep me @ 1000 - 1200 calories a day plus it lets me know when I can reward myself for going so good. I don't exercise like I should I do walk everyday 20 - 30 mins at a time everyday though..I figure that is better then nothing. If someone can tell me how to get going I have a Y membership that isn't used but they offer great classes I just always make excuses. Anyway the other thing I do is I drink ALL my Water. the whole 64 oz....if I don't I can tell it really slows me down. I can't wait to read more about everyone...lets keep this 100+ thread going!!!

Just had my first check up/Weigh in

Well done -it's great that you are experiencing NSVs with your clothes - they are at least as important as the scales. You're right - you will have ups and downs, so stay focused on the longer term goals you have, be patient and stay motivated. Try to build in some exercise when you can, as that will not only help your weight loss but also your general fitness levels. BTW, isn't Edinburgh a beautiful city?
  22. This week I had my 6 week postop appointment. I am down about 43 lbs total, including my 2 week preop diet. After hitting 40 lbs down at 4 weeks, I went up & down the same pound for about a week. After 3 or 4 days, I stopped weighing myself every day & just waited about 5 days or so before weighing again. When I did, I was down 2 pounds & another one came off before my follow up appointment. I think my body was adjusting to having more solid food. At week 5, I was finally able to start cooking again & enjoying the kinds of food I love. I'm still focusing on softer foods, but being able to cook good food & start sharing dinner with my husband again has really boosted my outlook. In addition, I can tell my clothes are getting too big & I'm starting to pull out clothes I haven't worn in years. I found a really cute knit pencil skirt online at Target & I bought both a 3X and a 2X (Target stuff runs small on me). The 3X fits great now & the 2X will fit before too long. It's perfect for somebody with a bountiful booty & the hubs loves it. A new cookbook I am exploring right now is called Well Fed by Melissa Joulwan. It's a paleo cookbook, and Melissa also has a great blog called The Clothes Make The Girl. The paleo style of eating seems to fit in really well with our postop guidelines, so I decided to check it out. So far, I have really enjoyed everything I have tried from the book. She includes a sections on staples of a paleo pantry & ways to cook ahead the simple parts of a meal (meat, veggies, etc) that you then can use over a whole week with many variations. I found Well Fed on Amazon, along with several other paleo cookbooks I'm thinking of trying now. Over the last couple of weeks, I have had several social things to go to, plus a couple of times where I have had to be away from home for a whole day or overnight without much access to decent food. I've had to plan ahead for eating properly, and I've also had to get over my nervousness about social or party eating. I've been surprised at the things I've been tempted by & the things I have NOT been tempted by. One party was hosted by a friend who is a very good baker, and his parties always include some yummy cakes. I expected to be pretty tempted to have a bite of cake, but I wasn't. It was so weird, but I was happy with cheese & some olives & hardly looked twice at the cakes. However, last night we were at another friend's house they put out some Triscuits. OMG, I absolutely HAD to have a damn Triscuit. I was actually distracted from the conversation because I kept glancing at the Triscuits. Seriously, I'm obsessing over a Triscuit?? WTH??? I ended up eating 4 over the whole evening & they were yummy. I also had a little wine, but I didn't even finish one glass. I have noticed that I am starting to feel hunger again. A couple of times, I have been very hungry & my first 2 or 3 bites have been either too big and/or taken in too fast. Each time, I have thrown up right away. I need to do better about keeping it slow & small no matter how hungry I am. I am also struggling to take in 64 oz of water a day. I carry my bottle around, but forget to drink from it. The most I usually drink is 36 to 48 oz, and I know I need to do better than that. The other thing I'm noticing is that I'm "hungry" to get out and do more stuff now. My knees are feeling much better, and I am so much more enthusiastic about going shopping or to the grocery store or to a party without worrying about pain from standing or feeling like I am stuck in a chair while everyone else is mingling. Call it hunger for life, but that's the other hunger that's coming back & I am so grateful to feel it. Life is for living, and although I was never a person who withdrew from life, I certainly felt restricted in what I was physically able to do. My next NSV outing will be to go to our big farmer's market on a Saturday morning. Maybe next week? We'll see!
  23. So, i thought this is a NSV that i should share with everyone. Before surgery my insulin level was very high, it was 33.4 (normal insulin levels range from 4.8 and 27.8) today, (almost six months post op)... my insulin level came out to be 7.8!!!! I was so happy i cried... no meds needed and no more worrying about my health. I am as healthy as any normal person now. Oh and my doctor wants to keep checking my insulin cause he is afraid that it might go below normal level (go figures) lmao. Anyways, good luck everyone and thank you for reading my post.
