    Dale before surgery

    From the album: Dale

Me at my pre surgery weight
  2. Well, we did it, Dr. Seger and I. He'd had a tough time without my help. I went in at 10:00 AM and got to my room around 12:15 PM. I spent two nights in the hospital enjoying the best care a person could possibly get. I started this journey at 335 lbs and today weighted in at 299. I'm in the middle of my clear liquid diet and am doing well. I've had two total knee replacements in pervious years and can already feel the releif the weight loss is bringing to my joints. I am a diabetic and have not needed insulin at all since two days prior to going into the hospital; because of the pre-surgery weight loss diet. If you haven't already figured it out, I am excited about my future weight loss and I am happy to be on this journey with you all. One final note, a thank you to Forensikchic for her conviencing talk at the seminar I attended and her more recent encouragements.
  3. My sugar went very high for a few days after surgery even though I wasn't eating. My lower and mid back were very painful to the point I could barely move at all for about 2 full days. I am 52. Just letting you know you are not alone. Things worked out in the end and I am off of metformin and insulin though my blood still runs a little high and the doc has started me on victoza recently. But overall my bs is lower and I am eating better than I was before. Hope to be off of all dibetic meds by spring if I lose enough weight.....
  4. Hi, everyone. I'm expecting to get sleeved next month, and I know that after I lose my weight I will def need plastic surgery. I'm also a federal employee. Have any of you had federal health insurance cover any procedures? Deny them? Basically, if love to hear about your insurance experiences. It's almost open season. thank you!
  5. So I seem to be losing 10 pounds a month (including my preop diet). I started at 240, so not too terribly high, but I'm out three full months now and only down 42 pounds. I need to be down another 18 pounds by the end of september to be ready for my breast reduction/lift and I'm so nervous! I have been running 3-9 miles a week trying to push it so hard but the slowing down is killing me. I'm trying to remember that it's not just weight, but measurements and muscle. I lost 6 inches in my waist last month so i know I'm shifting weight to muscle, but it's hard not to feel discouraged. pics attached, first one in black outfit is before, then suit jacket and animal print recent pics How is everything going for my fellow April sleevers?!!?!?!? Over 30 lbs lighter!

Long time no blog. Things have been going great. I am going to the gym 4x a week for about an hour a day and I walk 2 miles per day, 3x per week. I am still consuming about 1200 calories per day, haven't cheated with bad foods but I have eaten more than I should on a couple of occassions. I thought after my first fill I would start eating less but by dinner time, I'm ready to eat a regular sized meal. Of course it's a lot less than what I have eaten in the past, but after reading the thousand and thousands of post on this forum, I thought I'd be eating much less for dinner than what I've been. Still, my diet is not too bad considering I'm still sticking with 1200 calories per day. I am hungry in the morning and at lunch, but I can stop eating pretty easily. For breakfast, I normally have cream of wheat and some banana. I've eaten oatmeal with bananas too. Or I will have one half of english muffin with 2 egg white scrambled. For lunch, I would have about 3 oz of grilled salmon and maybe 3 bites of brown rice and however much bok choy I can eat. I've also eaten 1/2 of a turkey sandwich for lunch which has turkey, tomato and lettuce only and sometimes pickles. Come dinner time, I'm famished! I'll eat some chicken and rice but my portions are still big. Again, it's smaller than what I've eaten before being banded, but I think it's too big for someone with a band. Anyway, my next fill is not until next month, hopefully my appetite will change a bit after. My progress is excellent so not too much of a complaint, I'm just worried that one of these days I will get something stuck since I have yet to experience that . I went to a support group the other day and I think it's wonderful that there are such groups. It's nice to meet other people with the band and to see how successful it's been for them. It's inspiring and I hope one day I can speak at these support groups and tell my success story! Some day.... I posted some pictures with the latest being at 27 lbs lost. I'm proud to announce that I have passed the 30 lbs mark and have lost a total of 32 lbs so far. I love it! It's great feeling to have lost weight, it's a great feeling to breathe easier and to get a period for 2 months in a row! The up and the down side is that I need new clothes. I'm practically swimming in some of my pants, so I definitely need to get some new ones and a belt!
  7. Hi, I am so glad I was blessed to find this site! I am going to my first orientation/meeting next Tuesday. After reading many posts of folks at different stages of this journey, I don't feel so scared, alone, and clueless...THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! I found this site because I was using a career exploration tool called Typefocus.com--it is great and I'd never since such a tool with work/balance, including stress management and weight loss for your Myers-Briggs personality type. What truly struck me for this first time was that they gave an example of setting your original goal but to initially target to lose 20% of your current weight, then maintain it for 3 months, then target to lose 15% of your current weight, repeating if necessary until you reach your ideal goal. Has anyone ever heard of or tried this method? It never occurred to me, but I did calculate the lbs. lose and it was manageable to my brain which is always the biggest battle, in my mind! Well, thank you for being here...I appreciate and hope to be contribute to our better health! Blessings, All

Hungry too soon after I eat?

I have the same issue. After a meal (which is a small portion) it takes about 2 hours and I begin to feel hungry. I think its normal though. Weight loss programs for people without a band say its best to eat multiple (around 5) small meals a day. It increases matabolism. With our band we eat way less at one time and its only natural for our bodies to get hungry faster. And I'm sure your matabolism has gotten faster too. If you start to gain weight due to the amount of meals you eat, I'd consider a band fill. If you are still losing weight, exercising, and are happy... don't fix what's not really broken :scared2: url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wM4qZ08/] [/url]

    Weighing after surgery

my Dr weighs me everytime I come in and I see him at one week one month then every three months. But I go by the eight I have at home since it is at the same time every time and I can be in my b-day suit no cloths adding extra weight. I weigh every day just because I find it interesting the corilation to what I did/ ate the day before to the amount lost or gained, but I only track on Wednesdays. But some people just cant handle the every day weigh in it drives them crazy. for me not knowing would drive me crazy.
  10. hello all- new to this site... okay so im a 24 year old female from NY & ive been struggling with my weight for what feels like forever.. okay, since I was 11.. practically forever though. ive been on every diet you could imagine and even had the lap band put in back in 2011.. 5 years later and got it removed because all it was doing was making me sick. truth be told- I was 18 at the time of the procedure and my whole self wasn't in it. I wasn't mentally prepared and I didn't realize that I still had to put in work.. when you're young you don't really listen to what others say and that's obviously where I went wrong. now im getting the sleeve done in hopefully 2 weeks.. if not- gotta wait til march... my reason for writing this is because im tired. not only physically but emotionally too. im used to the stares. im used to the name calling. im used to being treated differently because of my weight. but you never really get used to feeling alone in a crowded room. no one understands!! I try to explain it to them but unless you're 300+ pounds youll never understand. one of my friends is overweight but not nearly as big as me. so she doesn't understand how it feels when im in a "bad" mood. I cant help but feel the way I do. I know that if I was at a normal weight I wouldn't be so angry all the time. im mostly angry at myself for allowing myself to get this way.angry at others for judging me and angry at my friends for not understanding. but how could they? I guess what im asking of you all is to just be there for me. to support me through the start of my journey.. or the next chapter of it. i need people who get it. im ready more than ever.. both physically and mentally. i would love a chance to get to know you all... im angela btw

Adding Swimming to my Exercise Routine

I am a huge fan of any kind of swimming and Aqua exercise. Currently I swim laps (can only really propel myself with backstroke), do Water weights/ab work, and take occasional water aerobics classes. If you are new to swimming and water fitness you might want to consider taking some water aerobics classes or even sign up for a private lesson or two to get some tips. I am also sure the pool staff can give you some tips or ideas. You can do all sorts of exercises with weights, noodles, kick boards, etc. I've learned a lot of exercises and techniques throughout the years just taking a variety of water aerobics classes.

    Hmmmmmm

"Almost a month out" - virtually everyone experiences a stall around week 3. With my band I hit in from about week 2.5 to about week 4.5. It's your body reacting to the "emergency" you've just put it through. Remember your body doesn't have a brain. It can't rationalize, it thinks it is starving, and is going to react in a way so as to preserve itself. That reaction (unfortunately for our frail psyches) usually includes a postponement of weightloss, and quite possibly a slight weight gain. Two very important things to remember when you start to despair... 1. Weight is not the same as fat. You can weigh the same, or more, and be less fat than you were. This will almost guaranteed be true multiple times. 2. Like investments, you can't look at things in the short term. This is why I hate the scale, it's such a short term de/motivator. You're looking for a sustained average of a couple of pounds a week. So far, you're way above that average. 5 lbs a week cannot be sustained.
  14. Hello All, I have been stalking you all since November and am finally ready to actively join this wonderful group! Your stories are so inspirational and I can't wait to start posting my own. I won't go into a long drawn out story of my struggles with weight because from here on out I only want to look forward! I started my two week pre-op diet on August 7th and am scheduled for surgery on August 21st. It has been a really rocky road with lots of hoops and let downs since November but I am finally letting myself believe this is really going to happen for me. I started the summer at 257 and was not given a date until I got back down to 243 which was what I weighed in November. Hoping to get to the low 230's by the big day! I WANT MY LIFE BACK! I have been hiding behind my weight for so long that a lot of people in my life don't even know the real ME! I am so excited what this surgery is going to do for me but also my relationships with my husband and beautiful children. They deserve to have a happy wife and mommy and I have not been for many years!!!!!!! I will keep you all posted and thanks for letting me join!!!!!!!! ±±±

    Newbie.....Sort of!

Welcome, and if you stick to the pre op diet you could loose a lot of weight before surgery. I had a total of 32 lbs lost just by the pre op diet before surgery. Hopefully you have similar or better results than I did. Never look back and please stay focused on your future. It is not easy at first but you will make it.
  16. I am new to this. I am wanting weight loss surgery and am starting again to look into everything. I want to be free from all that is killing me. Sleep Apnea, Type II Diabetes, and High Blood Pressure. I know it has to do to my weight. I have fought obesity my entire life. I am looking to find others that are in the Fort Worth area and that have Medicaid for insurance.
  17. I started mushies today i was so excited to have something more solid in my stomach! it was awesome!. My dad even made me rice pudding ( which is is the best ). i know i have to be careful with that one but it was nice to have something i enjoyed. i also got some strawberries i pureed them up so they are the consistency of applesauce and i am gonna try them with my protein powder. i feel full today which was nice after feeling like i have been starving. Tomorrow is my 2 week check up i hope everything goes well. I've gained a few pounds back i think because my bowels are backed up and i am retaining water. Either that or my antidepressants are messing with my weight again, since i just started taking them again. wish me luck tomorrow!

    What made you choose?

I am looking to be healthier and, perhaps, to live long enough to see my youngest grandchild "launched" in whatever way she chooses to launch. She is 6 and I am 63. I am diabetic, have high blood pressure, have hypothyroidism, and I stand 4' 11". It will be a slow weight loss, but the health benefits should happen fairly quickly.

    protein powder and meal replacement?

There is a difference between a meal replacement and a supplement. I found this on a website where you can buy actual replacements. "There is a very distinct difference between protein shakes and meal replacement shakes. A protein shake is just a concentrated protein powder that can be mixed into liquid like water or milk. A meal replacement shake contains multiple vitamins and minerals to help with all of the nutritional needs that you would normally receive if you were eating a healthy meal. Protein shakes still exist but they are really only a supplement for body builders. Meal replacement shakes are far more versatile when it comes to having all of the nutritional needs a meal needs to provide. Meal replacement shakes are designed to REPLACE one or two of your daily meals. Meal replacement shakes are specially formulated for weight loss and weight maintenance. These shakes are designed to give you a wide range of essential nutrients in a low calorie meal substitute, rich in proteins and low in carbohydrates." I hope this helps you.

    Your Opinions/Advice/

If you're trying to decide between weight loss surgeries, I'd suggest going to a seminar (or two, or three!) and getting some info that way. It may just lead to more questions, but is a good start. They want you to exercise, to be healthy, WLS or no. That's not something unique to the lap band.

2 weeks after surgery. 20lbs lost!

20lbs in 2 weeks in good, does this include the weight lost before surgery from the shakes?
  22. I was very hour glass shaped so my fat was very evenly distributed. My thighs look like crap, my boobs are really long now (both places where I held the most weight), but my stomach is fairly flat. I am not too worried about it, honestly.

    Back to being good...

I am getting ready to head out for fill #3. I have needed this one for a while, but was a bad girl to wait so that I could enjoy my holidays (meaning holiday foods). The holidays are gone so it's time to get back on track with the band. My weight loss has been slowing down to about 5lbs a month so it's time. Hopefully I've lost enough weight that they don't have to dig for my port.

    Back to being good...

Lisa, your right 1200 is very little, its the reason most people have a hard time losing weight. On the other hand, you can get more bang for your buck by knowing what foods you'll get more of w/less calories. For instance, you can eat more low fat popcorn than potato chips. There's a book called Volumetrics and thats what it teaches. Good luck. I'm glad your feeling better ( and stay away from that wacko chick in your office ). Hugs ! Why Randy, what ever do you mean ROFLMFAO !!! Thats so cool your wife made it thru the holidays. Congratulations Mrs. Pecan Pie Queen
