  1. Thanks all. I have met, and surpassed my pre-op weight loss (started last may at 275, now at 191lbs) - clinic told me to try and maintain my weight where I am (not gain, not lose) - so I guess I am relieved that they don't want me to lose anymore, but I am worried about gaining - all "diets" I have done have always failed, resulting in all the weight, plus some returning. I had the clinic put me on the cancelation list, so I am crossing my fingers that I am called.

    Phentermine...

I took phentermine for about 3 months December 2006 - February 2007. The first 6 weeks or so was awesome! I lost about 25 pounds, even during the holidays. Then during the first week of February, I was hospitalized with "stroke-like symptoms" - slurred speech, confusion, lack of concentration - all listed side effects of phentermine. I spent 5 days in the hospital before they figured out the phentermine is what was causing it and ruled out anything else. Scared my husband and son to death. So if you can take it to help with weight loss prior to surgery, lucky you! You will definitely have a good jump start once your band is in place. Just be careful and if you start having any symptoms, go to your dr. immediately!!! Good luck!

    17 Months Out Progress

I keep losing. It is a lot slower now, and I have periodic maintenance periods, but still lose about .5 lbs a week. I really don't want to lose much more. I'm 2lbs from goal and have loose skin. At this point, my concern is that if I continue the pattern that has been playing out over the last many months, I will be losing too much weight. I've seen people on the forums fuss about this as if they are doing an eye roll that it isn't a real problem or that the solution is just to eat more. Just like when someone says, "If you are fat, eat less and exercise more. You don't need surgery." ...they are over simplifying a complex problem and don't really understand. I eat lots of junk. I eat Desserts and bread. I drink beer. I eat and drink anything and everything I want. But, believe it or not, I'm still losing and it has not stopped. I may sustain a weight range for a month, but then it drops. No, I don't exercise at all. This may not be the norm, but is a legitimate concern and a reality for some here.
  4. Me too! I am down 30 pounds and take in about 800 calories a day and have been very carfefuk not to eat carbs and my weightloss has stalled Up a pound down a pound, I have 56 pounds to go. Help! Am I doing something wrong. I find it hard to believe that 800 calories is enough to sustain my weight. My clothes fit well but I am dying to get to my 150 goal. Any advice?
  5. I have been banded for just about 1 year. I have had 2 fills and throw up about 2 or 3 times a week. All of this would be okay with me if I were loosing weight. I've lost 25 pounds altogether, including what I lost before surgery. I really thought this would be the answer for me. I've failed at every other diet I've ever tried and I'm a failure at this too. I'm sad.

    Food dictates my life

It is sad how food dictates my life. Whether I am happy, sad, mad, or angry I always resort to food. People who have real high metabolisms don’t seem to understand why I’m so fat. I eat as much as they do or even less and I gain the weight more than they would. I haven't had my surgery yet but just trying to leave a little on my plate is getting easier. I have even been doing portion control and leaving a bite or two. It feels good when my stomach signals to my brain that I have had enough to eat and it’s time to put the plate away. And then I start to wonder what if I can do this w/o the surgery? I’m losing weight by eating less and feeling content with such small amounts. But, then it hits me. I’ve been on this trail before. I have lost weight by portion control alone, and I felt great and had the momentum going like a train, and then one day I derail off the tracks. I’ve had a bad day at work or something to that effect and all of a sudden I want to eat!!! I want the carbs, sweet and salty and the whole nine yards. So I start stuffing my mouth and stomach with satisfying mood food to the point of no return. And when the dust clears I feel so stuffed and miserable, regretting ever taking the first bite. Other times after work or on days I am off, I am bored and have nothing to do, there’s nothing good on TV, I don’t feel like going anywhere, so I sit and eat a bag of chips or cookies and milk. That seemed to have passed some time away. Eating those so-called foods while not being active is what has packed on my pounds over the years. That pretty much is who I am before I started this journey to the weight-loss surgery. After many months of thinking about it and researching along the way, I have decided that this is what I will do. I have seen a couple of people that I know have success with it and so here I am. I feel it will be a great tool to help me in those times of boredom. I will have to diligently follow a nutrition program that cannot just throw my arms in the air and give up. I look at it as a strong way to keep me on the straight and narrow. As if I’m in jail and can only eat what is given to me. I am so ready for this surgery on the 25th of September, exactly one month from now. I still have to do my pre-op blood work, chest x-ray, EKG, and my endoscopy. Get my PCP to sign off and hope that the money we are expecting on the day of my pre-op doctor visit will be in the bank as I have to pay them for the program fee. When all that is complete I will be ready for the next chapter of my life.
  7. Good luck!! I am nervous too as it's my turn on the 20th! I am sure both our surgeries and weight loss that follows will be a great success! ????
  8. Okay I can't figure out how to get my glitter signature and my weight tracher BOTH in my Siggy!! Any help would be appreciated.
  9. I just relocated to AZ and wanted to know if there is anyone here to help support me with this new journey. I'm almost 4 months post-opt and struggle with exercise and protein and fluids????. I wish there was more time in the day so I could get it all in, I find myself having to choose between eating or drinking cause you can't do both????. I need a friend/ support buddy to help me be successful????.In addition I'm looking for a program so I could do my six month visit does anyone have suggestions? I'm so worried I will gain the weight back???? PLEASE HELP ME????????

    Sleeve or Bypass

It depends on how much u have to lose. If under 100 pounds I'd do the sleeve if over I'd go with bypass. I had bypass and it's been very helpful in reaching my goals. If you're child bearing age and plan to have a child I'd do a sleeve. I find sleeve you lose quickly but it's much easier to gain back as it doesn't appear to change your blood sugar levels like RNY gastric bypass. If you're diabetic do the RNY. There are many variables. Best to discuss with your surgeon. I initially wanted the sleeve but my surgeon said you're very big so better to do the bypass. I've reached a healthy bmi and feel amazing but I take my vitamins and have my protein daily.

  12. Ok, so I was banded 10/21 and I have had success. I've lost 62 pounds. But over the last few weeks I've just stayed at my current weight. I work out 3-5 days a week. I've even changed up the routine but no change. Anyone else experience this? This must be a plateau but it is sooooooooo frustrating!!

    Lisa Lampanelli

I saw her on The Insider...and she really lost the weight, wow. I wasn't a fan on Celebrity Apprentice but she acted so happy and said her husband got surgery also. She looked good, with a sassy new hairdo and really skinny face.
  14. So my SO is totally supportive and has been really excited for me but now that surgery is getting close, he keeps making comments about when I'm skinny and different sly things about how I will prob leave. My surgery is really high risk. I know he's scared to death and now I think he's starting to question us. He doesn't have a weight issue and works in the entertainment industry. He's never had a problem with confidence and is the life of the party. Anyone have any tips? Do I just ignore it? Reassure him? Let him act like a whiney baby?[emoji38] Why are they so complicated ?! Change in scent 'down there'

Have been noticing a strong scent down there postop. When i sit down to pee it smells mediciny and right after I shower there's still a strong scent but not unpleasant. I haven't lost enough weight to get a thigh gap or anything so wondering what's causing this and if anyone else experienced a change in scent postop.

    Exercise & motivation

Maybe try using a Fitbit or similar device. I was fortunate in that I had remained pretty active despite having gained a lot of weight before surgery, so the first year or so I really didn't need motivation because I liked working out. After I had two plastics surgeries though over the course of 3 months, I couldn't work out for 6 weeks after each one and oddly enough I lost weight (which was probably partly muscle). I found that I can easily maintain and still lose a few pounds a month without any form of exercise so I got super lazy. I would still go to boxing class, but before I was running miles everyday. As of this week I decided it's time I get my lazy butt back in gear, so I bought both the Fitbit Charge and the Aria scale to serve as a motivator. The scale is a pound heavier than my regular scale so that was annoying, lol, but the Charge has been fun to have because I can see my progress so much better. I find it motivating to work toward goals and if you set your goal at 10,000 a day you can see throughout the day how close you are.

Me at my pre surgery weight
  18. Well, we did it, Dr. Seger and I. He'd had a tough time without my help. I went in at 10:00 AM and got to my room around 12:15 PM. I spent two nights in the hospital enjoying the best care a person could possibly get. I started this journey at 335 lbs and today weighted in at 299. I'm in the middle of my clear liquid diet and am doing well. I've had two total knee replacements in pervious years and can already feel the releif the weight loss is bringing to my joints. I am a diabetic and have not needed insulin at all since two days prior to going into the hospital; because of the pre-surgery weight loss diet. If you haven't already figured it out, I am excited about my future weight loss and I am happy to be on this journey with you all. One final note, a thank you to Forensikchic for her conviencing talk at the seminar I attended and her more recent encouragements.
  19. My sugar went very high for a few days after surgery even though I wasn't eating. My lower and mid back were very painful to the point I could barely move at all for about 2 full days. I am 52. Just letting you know you are not alone. Things worked out in the end and I am off of metformin and insulin though my blood still runs a little high and the doc has started me on victoza recently. But overall my bs is lower and I am eating better than I was before. Hope to be off of all dibetic meds by spring if I lose enough weight.....
  20. Hi, everyone. I'm expecting to get sleeved next month, and I know that after I lose my weight I will def need plastic surgery. I'm also a federal employee. Have any of you had federal health insurance cover any procedures? Deny them? Basically, if love to hear about your insurance experiences. It's almost open season. thank you!
  21. So I seem to be losing 10 pounds a month (including my preop diet). I started at 240, so not too terribly high, but I'm out three full months now and only down 42 pounds. I need to be down another 18 pounds by the end of september to be ready for my breast reduction/lift and I'm so nervous! I have been running 3-9 miles a week trying to push it so hard but the slowing down is killing me. I'm trying to remember that it's not just weight, but measurements and muscle. I lost 6 inches in my waist last month so i know I'm shifting weight to muscle, but it's hard not to feel discouraged. pics attached, first one in black outfit is before, then suit jacket and animal print recent pics How is everything going for my fellow April sleevers?!!?!?!? Over 30 lbs lighter!

Long time no blog. Things have been going great. I am going to the gym 4x a week for about an hour a day and I walk 2 miles per day, 3x per week. I am still consuming about 1200 calories per day, haven't cheated with bad foods but I have eaten more than I should on a couple of occassions. I thought after my first fill I would start eating less but by dinner time, I'm ready to eat a regular sized meal. Of course it's a lot less than what I have eaten in the past, but after reading the thousand and thousands of post on this forum, I thought I'd be eating much less for dinner than what I've been. Still, my diet is not too bad considering I'm still sticking with 1200 calories per day. I am hungry in the morning and at lunch, but I can stop eating pretty easily. For breakfast, I normally have cream of wheat and some banana. I've eaten oatmeal with bananas too. Or I will have one half of english muffin with 2 egg white scrambled. For lunch, I would have about 3 oz of grilled salmon and maybe 3 bites of brown rice and however much bok choy I can eat. I've also eaten 1/2 of a turkey sandwich for lunch which has turkey, tomato and lettuce only and sometimes pickles. Come dinner time, I'm famished! I'll eat some chicken and rice but my portions are still big. Again, it's smaller than what I've eaten before being banded, but I think it's too big for someone with a band. Anyway, my next fill is not until next month, hopefully my appetite will change a bit after. My progress is excellent so not too much of a complaint, I'm just worried that one of these days I will get something stuck since I have yet to experience that . I went to a support group the other day and I think it's wonderful that there are such groups. It's nice to meet other people with the band and to see how successful it's been for them. It's inspiring and I hope one day I can speak at these support groups and tell my success story! Some day.... I posted some pictures with the latest being at 27 lbs lost. I'm proud to announce that I have passed the 30 lbs mark and have lost a total of 32 lbs so far. I love it! It's great feeling to have lost weight, it's a great feeling to breathe easier and to get a period for 2 months in a row! The up and the down side is that I need new clothes. I'm practically swimming in some of my pants, so I definitely need to get some new ones and a belt!
  23. Hi, I am so glad I was blessed to find this site! I am going to my first orientation/meeting next Tuesday. After reading many posts of folks at different stages of this journey, I don't feel so scared, alone, and clueless...THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! I found this site because I was using a career exploration tool called Typefocus.com--it is great and I'd never since such a tool with work/balance, including stress management and weight loss for your Myers-Briggs personality type. What truly struck me for this first time was that they gave an example of setting your original goal but to initially target to lose 20% of your current weight, then maintain it for 3 months, then target to lose 15% of your current weight, repeating if necessary until you reach your ideal goal. Has anyone ever heard of or tried this method? It never occurred to me, but I did calculate the lbs. lose and it was manageable to my brain which is always the biggest battle, in my mind! Well, thank you for being here...I appreciate and hope to be contribute to our better health! Blessings, All

Hungry too soon after I eat?

I have the same issue. After a meal (which is a small portion) it takes about 2 hours and I begin to feel hungry. I think its normal though. Weight loss programs for people without a band say its best to eat multiple (around 5) small meals a day. It increases matabolism. With our band we eat way less at one time and its only natural for our bodies to get hungry faster. And I'm sure your matabolism has gotten faster too. If you start to gain weight due to the amount of meals you eat, I'd consider a band fill. If you are still losing weight, exercising, and are happy... don't fix what's not really broken :scared2: url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wM4qZ08/] [/url]

    Weighing after surgery

my Dr weighs me everytime I come in and I see him at one week one month then every three months. But I go by the eight I have at home since it is at the same time every time and I can be in my b-day suit no cloths adding extra weight. I weigh every day just because I find it interesting the corilation to what I did/ ate the day before to the amount lost or gained, but I only track on Wednesdays. But some people just cant handle the every day weigh in it drives them crazy. for me not knowing would drive me crazy.
