  1. These pictures are the start of my journey, they were taken 8/28/17 the night prior to my surgery. Currently this is my second bariatric surgery prior I was banded 8/4/07 I went from 350 to my lowest point was 185. I maintained that weight for a good 5 years and slowly started to regain weight when my lap band started to fail me. I began aspirating in my sleep, couldn't eat unless I was standing etc. My surgeon decided it was time to revise and go with something more economical and less possibility for other health issues.

    Band to sleeve - reflux

I started my life or reflux when my 4 yr old band slipped. Dr told me when it came out, my reflux would end. Had I known the sleeve itseld causes a much higher incident of relux, I woulda just had the byoass to begim with. Now 4 yrs after my sleeve revision, Im back to seeing the bariatric surgeon on Oct 17th for revision to RNY. That will be 3 wls's. Almost embarrased to say that. Having the RNY at 160lbs - about 20-30 lbs from goal. Sounds crazy. But I cant wait to sleep thru the nite without choking and coughing up stomach acid and feeling my chest on fire. I sleep in an adjustable bed, am on the reflux diet, and take the tp doses of the strongest meds. My GI told me the next stage is surgery. Went to the general surgeon 2 weeks ago tot talk about surgery. 2 choices. Nissen Fundoplication or revision to RNY (which usually CURES reflux). Fter my upper gi last Fri, it was determined I dont have enuf stomach left to do th Fundoplcation. They wrap ur stomach around ur esophagus. So the choice was made for me.... Had I known then what I know now..... Good luck!
  3. I had this procedure done in may of 2013. Was at OCC with Dr Ortiz. The whole thing was a waste of time and money, in total I lost 6lbs was doing a whole lot better on my own when needed support or understanding they just wanted you to return to Mexico and undergo another surgery to restrict the plication more. My current dr in the states said No No don't go back to resolve this problem there only taking your money with no hope for a change that may not happen. Totally depressed about the whole thing..I gave up till 6 months ago, on 9/21/17 I am having a revision RNY. My nutritionist current says this has really messed with my metabolism (plication)-hopefully this current surgery can finally get me the results (tool) I'm looking for and be successful. Just be cautious on the choices you have...
  4. I had surgery in 2014 and then a revision on 9/1 of this year. I have noticed that the site has changed considerably between my first surgery and my second (more trolls/fighting) but I think it's still a very valuable source of information and support if you can look past it. I agree with @OutsideMatchInside that this is just part of the nature of the internet, and you have to take advice from strangers on the internet with a grain of salt. There are lots of nice people on here though, and I would encourage you to reach out to individual posters for advice and support. Good luck!
  5. I just had a revision and another hernia repair on sept 7. Starting weight 172. I think it's going to work now.

Linda, your passive aggressiveness is on full display. If you have something to say to me then have the courage to say it. At least then you'd be eligible for respect. But the passive aggressive "way to go" comments you're posting to those who want to argue with me are just weak. At least they possess the spine to speak up against me directly. On June 12, 2017 I had my gallbladder removed, my lapband removed and revised to an RNY. HW: 402, SW 306, CW 257, GW 185

No, I don't "act" that way. In fact, literally stating the opposite of what you're claiming is the very definition of not "acting" that way. I think what you mean to say, is that is how you've perceived my comments. I'm not responsible for your perceptions. Your mind is mangling my very clear words that are literally in black and white and assigning entirely different meaning to them. It's actually quite fascinating to see you attempt to twist words and assign opposing meaning. It's also quite telling. On June 12, 2017 I had my gallbladder removed, my lapband removed and revised to an RNY. HW: 402, SW 306, CW 257, GW 185
  11. Hi! I'm new to the RNY process and I would love an experienced pal who will be willing to take this journey with me. I am a 55 year old Christian woman who, in 1991, had her stomach stapled and am now going through the revision process with RNY. I am a disabled American who has an a long and hard road to haul. I am an emotional eater who is now in the process of being "someone else" so that I can find the woman inside who has been silenced by Mike & Ikes! Is anyone available?
  12. I had my band removed about a month ago due to a prolapse and slippage. It was unfilled for over a year because of issues I was having with swallowing and pancreatitis flair. I had a very small amount of fluid added and well that didn't work out well and the band slipped and it was just time to have it removed before I had any further issues with it. I was banded for about 4 years, and it really never worked with my body. I think my body was just rejecting it from the beginning. I was sick for 2 out of the 4 years. I have to say I am feeling 100% better since having the surgery to remove the band. I am able to eat and drink without being sick for days, and the surgical site is healing very well. I am working on all the requirements for revision to the sleeve, however I am still unsure about my feelings for another surgery. Knowing how sick I was for so long...and that if I have another surgery and there are issues, there is no "fix" for it. They can't just go in and take out the equipment to make it better....this time my body has to accept the change and adapt like it didn't with the band. I'm maintaining my weight, and haven't gained a whole lot since surgery, but I know that possibility is right there....so that's why I am moving ahead to meet the requirements for revision.
  13. Hello Everyone, In 2009 I underwent Lap Band surgery with a starting weight of 252lbs. I slowly lost over the course of 3 years weighing in at 149lbs (103lbs lost). I literally had never felt so good in my entire life! Around this time I started noticing that some things felt “off” with my band. However, my focus was then on my struggle with infertility so the band was put on the back burner. Fast forward 4 years later and 2 rounds of IVF I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy! Now that my son is a year old I’ve been focusing on my health a bit more. During my struggle with infertility I gained around 50lbs back and am pretty upset about it! I actually just got a letter from my hospital about revision from the band to the sleeve. The letter stated that greater than 50% of their lap band patients were having complications and undergoing revision surgery. My consultation is this Friday 9/15/17! I’ll be back to update you on how it goes!
  14. Hi All, I was banded back in 2009 with a starting weight of 252lbs. In 3 years I was down to 149lbs. From 2012-2015 I got back up to the 200lb mark, yuck. I’ve had major food intolerances and heartburn ect. I had surgery for something else in 2015 and that surgeon took a look at my band and said “it doesn’t look right” so I’m suspect it has slipped. I have my consult for the revision surgery on Friday 9/15. Some questions: What was the recovery like for you? How long did it take from your consult to the surgery? Anyone with Cigna? Can you share your experience with insurance? What is the post op diet like? Similar to the band? When were you sleeved and how much have you lost so far? Do you recommend the sleeve?
  15. Banded in 2009 went from 252lbs to 149lbs in 3 years. Then I started having problems....... Food intolerance Heartburn Suspected slippage However I began a battle with infertility at the time and didn't care about my band even a little. Now that my son is old enough I need to get my band taken care of. I have a consult Friday for a gastric sleeve revision. I'm a little nervous about the whole idea. Anyone else in a similar situation. Oh and I've gained like 50lbs back. I am currently bouncing back and forth between 195lbs and 200lbs.
  16. 100% all depends on your insurance. I've got GEHA now and they are requiring 6 months of nutrition appointments... not super pleased with it, but, if I want this band to bypass revision, I need to check off their boxes. Certainly try to fight it, but be ready for them to be sticklers.
  17. Can you share your experience with insurance approving your revision surgery? I have a lap band (2009) and have a consult 9/15 to have it revised to a sleeve. Cigna is my insurance company. Also, how long from your consult to your surgery date?

I am a member of that type of forum, actually. However, since you don't seem to have grasped this part, I'll break it down for you. When discussing psychological issues, I prefer to deal with my equals who are fellow professionals in the field as opposed to someone who has zero education in the field and is clearly ignorant of psychology, yet still posts online as if they are an expert on the topic. Maybe that cleared things up for you... though I very much doubt it. On June 12, 2017 I had my gallbladder removed, my lapband removed and revised to an RNY. HW: 402, SW 306, CW 257, GW 185

Hah. Well, at least you have a therapist on call. It certainly seems you need one. I mean, after all, your emotions "could come crashing down tomorrow". On June 12, 2017 I had my gallbladder removed, my lapband removed and revised to an RNY. HW: 402, SW 306, CW 257, GW 185

Unless you're a licensed mental health therapist like myself then spare me the asinine armchair psychologist crap. I prefer to deal with actual professionals in my field rather than some internet troll looking for attention. On June 12, 2017 I had my gallbladder removed, my lapband removed and revised to an RNY. "A food addiction addict". Hahahaha. Redundant, much? That's like saying, "an alcoholism alcoholic". By the way, addicts aren't "pathetic". There are many, many studies that prove beyond reproach that addiction is a disease just like cancer or diabetes. People like yourself who insult addicts are the truly pathetic ones. Tell me something, genius. Where did you get your psychology degree? I assume you have one since you're playing armchair psychologist and pretending you're qualified to make these statements. As someone who does have bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology and will be finishing up my doctorate soon, I actually am qualified to diagnose and treat. I can see clearly that you're a rude, lonely, bitter, uneducated, uninformed, judgmental idiot who thinks they know it all, but actually knows nothing. I'm also guessing you're probably quite old, which likely contributed to your bitterness. Bummer. On June 12, 2017 I had my gallbladder removed, my lapband removed and revised to an RNY. Save the bullying for someone else. Nobody needs you to attempt to prove your manhood here by picking on someone who is vulnerable and looking for support. On June 12, 2017 I had my gallbladder removed, my lapband removed and revised to an RNY. HW: 402, SW 306, CW 257, GW 185

If you haven't had the surgery then you have absolutely no clue what it's like or how difficult it is or how hormones are raging post surgery. How dare you chastise her extremely legitimate feelings. In fact, the majority of patients have "buyers remorse" shortly after surgery when things are chaotic. Perhaps your horrible and cruel attitude toward others people has something to do with the fact that you haven't been blessed with this surgery. Maybe you simply don't deserve the opportunity. On June 12, 2017 I had my gallbladder removed, my lapband removed and revised to an RNY. HW: 402, SW 306, CW 264, GW 185

  25. Hey there folks. My name is Will. I'm 35 years old and In 2015 I had the gastric bypass sleeve. I have not lost the weight with that that I wanted to or hoped to. I have contacted a surgeon in my TN area and am going to the pre surgery seminar tomorrow night. Then I have my appt with the head nurse and surgeon on Friday. I'm hoping that he will say I can qualify for the bypass. I'm not happy with my current situation. I'm having stomache pain and discomfort and a lot of diarrhea. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated Thanks Will
