Nsv - I Got A Job! Multiple Offers!

Congratulations to you! What a great NSV!
  4. I chose to tell only a few friends about the surgery so most do not know. I haven't seen those friends yet, but for the ones that do know...I don't think they notice a difference yet. That's okay I guess..my hubby says that I seem a little smaller because when he hugs me now he can squeeze his arms around me more. - I guess that is a NSV huh? Oh and I did have to be tacky and use a safety pin to hold my pants up in the waist area yesterday...but the pants in question have always been a bit big in the waist. Hips, legs and calf area fit same as usual. I'll keep trucking along and keep working on that thing called "patience."

Nsv - I Got A Job! Multiple Offers!

This is truly an NSV! Congrats on your new found confidence and your new job!
  6. Here's the background data. I took an early retirement package from my employer at the end of December of 2011. They were having some tough times financially and wanted to reduce costs - so when they offered the package, I accepted it. I took a gamble on myself and my skills being marketable in the bad economy. Not a fun time to be in the job market. For those of you who haven't looked for a job recently - it is completely different than it was even two years ago. If you don't know how to use social media, have a great "content-rich" resume, and are willing to network almost continuously, you are going to have a difficult finding a new job. I am 55 years old, and am competing with "kids" half my age and willing to take less money than me for the very same job. Here's the NSV - I received four job offers! The first was about 3 weeks ago, for a contract position - which I accepted. That seemed to bring all sorts of other good things my way. I received three additional job offers in the last ten days. All three of them were good offers for permanent positions (if any jobs these days are really "permanent"). I had the amazing task of deciding which one was the one I wanted - because I would have accepted any one of the three. I did a little negotiating with the companies - to maximize the offers - and picked the winner. I resigned from my contract job, accepted the job I decided on, and told the other two companies, "no thanks". I think the fact that I had successfully lost 100+ pounds and am a "normal" weight both really helped me have a successfull job search. I believe the confidence boost I got from having beat my personal demon carried over into my interviews. I know people looked at me differently during the interview process at a size 12 petite than they would have at a size 26W. I didn't have to worry about hiring managers or human resource people worrying about the costs of insuring an obese person. I think I look younger than I did 100+ pounds ago - and younger is definately better in today's job market. It is going to be nice at the new company to just be known as "Sharon - the new woman" rather than "Sharon - the fat woman who is new". I look forward to planning what I will be wearing the first week of work! Sharon

    April Shower Challenge

Checking in at 201!!! 2 pounds to go....as long as I'm 199 when I step on the cruise ship next friday I'm good with it!!haha NSV----My daughter and I went shopping yesterday for cruise clothes. I grabbed a pair of capris and she met me at the dressing room to "approve" she saw the capris in my hand and said "I just put those back, they were to small for me...you might want a bigger size"....I thought well I will give them a try, just to see how much bigger I needed. BUT THEY FIT!! They actully FIT! they were size 14!! they were slightly (and I mean slightly snug) but nothing 2 or 3 pounds won't take take of!! I don't think my daughter was as excited as me........the shopping trip was now over.---I hated it for her, but I have worked my butt off these last few months!!! But on the other hand, she is very competitive and couldn't stand me being smaller than her.....first thing this morning she was on the treadmill.---I hope she continues....I worry about her so much. I think my enthusiasm is wearing off or her. She sees how much better I feel.

    Bowling!

Hi Everyone, Well, todays exercise was bowling. Proper bowling not wii bowling. The whole family went and we had such a laugh. Ok, I am not a brilliant bowler, in fact because I have weak wrists I can hardly lift the bowling ball, but I do enjoy doing it. (We don't go that often - I think this is the third time in five years!!!) It is so expensive by the time you have two lanes with everybody doing it. My granddaughter loves it too. She still has to use the kiddy helper thing to get the bowling ball where it should be. (My technical knowledge is vast isn't it!!!!) Bless her heart she scored higher than me. Oh well, she enjoyed beating me. So now I am tired but happy, as not only did I bowl, I walked up three flights of stairs to get there and walked down afterwards too. No lifts for me anymore. I guess that is an NSV right there. I didn't have to use the lift! That is a first for me. I also had to dig out some smaller skirts as most of my usual outfits have a habit of sliding to the floor. Woohoo! Everything else is pretty much the same as I have not lost any more weight, but feel sure that I will start losing again soon. I just have to be patient. (not my strongest point). How is everyone else doing? I long to be able to report the pounds are melting off me, but like I say, the scale isn't moving. I do feel thinner though. I think I am finally starting to see a difference when I look in the mirror. Small changes, but they all do add up in the end don't they. Phoenix
  9. NSV – Non scale Victory (ie: smaller clothes, compliments, climbing a flight of stairs etc…) From: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/34175-frequently-asked-questions/page__hl__%2Bnon+%2Bsleeve+%2Bvictory__fromsearch__1
  10. I discovered that I have been down a little lately. While I have lost 23 pounds since since surgery and 30 pound since end of March......I do NOT feel a difference, nor can I "see" a difference. I am still tired and lack energy, my feet still swell. People that see me don't appear to notice a difference either. I am in the same pant/blouse size...albeit my tops are fitting a bit looser than before. Other than that NADA! ZILCH! wah!wah! wah! I did take my measurements and they have all gone down about 1/2 inch each...but I have always been more "solid" than mushy. Do I need to lose a 100 pounds to get an NSV or for it to be noticeable? So discouraging.... however patience has never been my virtue. Sorry for the pity party, but I wondered if any one else has felt like this?
  11. Hiya Lissa. thanks for the lovely comment about my new profile pic... you are very kind. I am glad that you are in the NSV gang... there is a lot more to getting healthy and fit than that pesky scales - I currently hate mine with a passion...lol x

  12. I put on my size 18 capris this morning... Waaayyyy too loose! I put on my size 16s, perfect fit! And my dress for my BFF's wedding came yesterday. I optimistically bought a size 16 thinking I'd have time to shrink - now I think I'll have to take it back and get a smaller size!

Wow It Just Really Hit Me Today

Capt Derel, Tell them to go pound sand!! I'm thrilled that you're so close to meeting that first goal! Isn't the sleeve an amazing tool!? Coops, you do look fine in your new picture. You inspire me to keep on trucking, even when the scale seems to be moving achingly slow. You're also the person who taught me about NSV's and paying attention to measurements more than the scale. Dorrie, I'm now losing again, at a slow but steady pace, but the inches have just melted away over the last couple of months. I'm amazed at how good I look and feel...and I'm looking forward to more of both!

Okay gang, I'm falling back into some bad habits and I need to break them. My hubby bought a bunch of Easter candy on sale after Easter, so the Reese eggs have been calling my name... and I've been responding! I kept thinking, "I'm eating so much less of everything else, I can have some chocolate here and there." But this week, here and there turned into EVERY DAY! I wasn't gorging (like I might have before surgery) but I still certainly didn't need to eat candy every day. I signed back up for WW online and have been tracking my points... this was the real eye opener with the candy. I haven't been using too many points on real food, but the candy was putting me at/above my points daily limits! Time to cut that out! I really signed back up to WW so I could get my pre-surgery measurements. Here's my BIG NSV - I've lost 2 feet!!!! Based on my pre-surgery measurements and the ones I took this week, I've lost 24.5 inches overall! So I didn't set a goal with you all last time, but this time I need to! I would like to be at 204 by June 1, that's 10 pounds in 5 weeks. I also want to up my exercise to 5 days a week. I haven't been good with that, but I'm going to get better! My original goal when I had my surgery was to be in onederland by June 21, but I think I'll be past that (just not sure by how much.)
  15. Yippee! I can't believe I am down 16 pounds in 2 weeks. I feel so much lighter and like I take up less room in my car, at my desk, everywhere...lol The best NSV for me is that I am officially off ALL 3 of my blood pressure medications as well as my cholesterol meds. I have another 70 pounds to go to get to goal but I am so happy to have already lost 30 pounds post and pre-op. If there has been any downside to this process it would have to be the emotional process of letting go of food as a coping mechanism. I've had a few rough days where I had to realize that I would no longer be able to use food to alleviate stress or combat feelings of negativity. I've replaced that tendency with art journaling instead. Now instead of reaching for a bite of something bad for me I will grab my art journal, some paint, paper, stamps etc. and journal everything I am feeling at the moment and when I am done I feel such a release. It has been especially helpful to go back and re-read those entries when I am no longer in that moment of distress and can see things more clearly. I've learned a lot about myself and about what got me fat in the first place in just these 2 short weeks. I had another notable NSV when I inadvertantly leaned back in my chair and crossed my legs with ease while visiting with friends. I was so shocked when I realized what I had done that I had to pretend I was still listening to the conversation while I was actually celebrating and having a dance party in my mind...lol My husband has been very supportive of me even if he doesn't fully understand what the hell I have had done with the surgery...poor guy is clueless but glad to have his support nonetheless. Many thank you's to everyone here on the forum for being sources of motivation, inspiration, dedication, discipline and hope.
  16. Yesterday must have been a full moon? Hurt my back more - just reaching for something. Then the grand finale rushing to prep for the girl’s party I am hosting I slipped in my sock feet and fell hard down 12 steps and in so much pain now! Thank god for ice! NSV - 2 1/4 inches since Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!

    12 Weeks Post-Op Success

I'm so happy for you. The little NSV's are awesome, aren't they? I had surgery the week before you and as far as weight lost and size lost we are fairly close, I'm down 42 lbs since 1/23. I love going through my clothes I saved ("because I won't be fat forever" is what I would tell myself). My 16's are getting loose and some 14's now fit. I too feel amazing, energy and confidence is way up! Everyday, I LOVE my sleeve. There are days that I feel like I will 'pig out', but after a few bites, my sleeve tells me I am done. Thank you, sleeve.

    Nsvvvvvvvvvvv!

This is my MOST WANTED NSV. I cannot wait to be able to go and sit in a booth. It's a huge fear of mine, going out wondering if they're gonna have booths or tables.

Okay, Kymie it is- that will give us a goal to get to in a little over a month. I want to be 231 by June 1. That is my goal!!!That is 10 lbs from now, and I've been spending about 4 weeks per "decade." I started a little note on my notepad app to keep track of my goals for this group so I don't have to go find things back in the thread, LOL. ChrissyLu- awesome NSV and SV's at the doctor!!!!

    12 Weeks Post-Op Success

I can relate. I have a silly (to everyone but me) NSV...I can put my own socks on for the first time in 3 yrs... I have to date this morning lost 60# I will be 8 weeks on Monday
  22. I had surgery 12 weeks ago. Prior to and soon after surgery I read many posts about people a few months out and most everyone said the sleeve was the best decision they had ever made. I was so hopeful but at the same time fearful that I wouldn’t have such a successful journey. I am happy to say that I feel the exact same way as they described!!! I never thought it would be possible to feel this much better both physically and emotionally in such a short time. I have lost 47 lbs. (stalled for a week now) and down 30.5 inches! I was in a tight 20W three months ago. Now I am comfortably in a size 16. I have an NSV to share that some of the ladies may be able to relate. I have always gotten regular pedicures. But I have been doing my own pedicures recently. Not so much because it is less expensive…but because I can actually bend over and paint my toes without turning blue!! I am so amazed at my journey so far and looking forward to a lifetime of better living thanks to my sleeve.
