You need to make good food choices. McDonald's is not a good food choice. Chicken nuggets are terrible for you. Good proteins first and then non-starchy veggies. Things like REAL chicken, fish, etc and none of it breaded or fried. String cheese, cottage cheese, low carb low sugar yogurt, eggs. If you are hungry for a snack you can even indulge in a little bit of hummus or roasted almonds... yum. Or do a google search for chicken crust pizza and make yourself a delicious, healthy, low carb, protein packed pizza. You have to change the way you are eating, the sleeve is only a tool. How we use it is up to us. Also, remember, if you are getting hungry often.... carbs bring on hunger. Protein helps fill you up. Try to keep that protein between 90-100 grams a day and keep those carbs under 40 grams a day. If you aren't already using it, use myfitnesspal to keep track of your carbs, protein and calories.

Hi Everyone I just wanted to give you all a quick update on my progress. I'm 31 days post-op from my VSG to MGB revision. I'm down 23 pounds since surgery & 29 pounds since pre-op diet(3 day plain yogurt &water). I think I'm making excellent progress considering I'm a revision patient. In speaking with dr. Ponce de leon before surgery, he decided that a 300cm bypass would work best for me considering my lifelong battle with Obesity and my previous WLS failure. I'm so glad that he did a longer bypass! After years of struggle, I feel like I'm finally going to reach my goal weight. I also started back working out last week. I would like to do it first thing in the morning, but my daily bowel movements start at 6am. I make multiple trips to the restroom. It's usually over by 730am. I'm usually safe to go the gym around 9am. BM's don't hurt(no cramping), but they do stink bad and they have the potential to travel to other rooms and linger in the air is you don't contain it with some Poo pourri. Thanks to another poster, I was able to make my own poo pourri. It works just as great! Other than that, I'm doing fine. I get lethargic from time to time, but that's normal for me. The only thing I miss is being able to gulp down Water. I truly love water. I will try to keep you all updated on my progress from time to time. I've been a part of different WLS forums for years and I hate it when people disappear after their surgery. I hope my story helps someone in their 1st surgery or Revision surgery journey.

Yea, but t I don't think I am meeting my quota. I am so sick of meat and yogurt lol and I can't do the shakes they are so nasty I want to gag just thinking about them. I general practitioner did blood work and I was low in vitamin d and everything was good so I am not sure what is wrong. Iamonlyhuman -
@Monikareigh - You are about where I was 13 months ago. At the end of March/beginning of April 2016, I was 271.5 and 5'3". Today, I'm 190 and headed to 150. I feel like a new person. I'm going to offer some tips from my journey: Protein - is what is going to keep you from getting hungry. Try to eat 90-100 grams of protein a day. Carbs - limit your carbs, but don't cut them completely. While you are "waiting" for your appointment, do something like Atkins. I start each day with a protein shake - 1 cup coconut milk, 1 scoop protein powder and about 1 cup of frozen fruit. Throw it in the blender. Its under 200 calories about 25 grams of protein and keeps me full til lunch. Oikos Triple Zero yogurt is a life saver -- about 120 calories in a cup and 15 grams of protein. If you do have pasta - use the Barilla high protein pasta - it's in the yellow box and tastes really good. And start moving -- walk for 1/2 hour a day (around the block, at the mall, at a gym) - and track all your food. I like My Fitness Pal, but there are plenty of other trackers out there. You've got this girl. Best of Luck!

I was sleeved in December and I'm STILL struggling to get in all 60g of protein. Shakes don't sit to well with me but I try to get in one a day. I get my protein in through salmon, yogurt or egg whites but not all 60g. Any suggestions/ideas? What shakes do you guys like? Maybe it's the brand of shakes I'm getting. Not sure.

Need advice: Protein drinks
JillyT replied to Tonabella's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I got so sick of those too. Try fairlife milk chocolate, 2tbsp peanut butter, 1 tbsp Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup ice. Blend and it's awesome. Almost like a Wendy's frosty. Also, the Atkins strawberry shakes are ok - 15g protein. But all the pre made shakes get old fast. Good luck. -

Hello all! I was sleeved 2/28. I am feeling better, only having mild tummy pain when sitting up from a bed or chair. I am going on regular walks and enjoying Greek yogurt on my full liquid diet! My favorite protein shakes are premier protein or muscle milk banana creme. I am 12 days post op and down 18 pounds from surgery. I am so grateful for my new tool! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Feb 2017 sleevers - how's everyone doing post-op?
strengthin#ers replied to biginjapan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all....Sleeved Feb 20th. Everything is going down well, seem like to well. If I didn't have the belly soarness I would swear nothing was done. I have that back pain as well. Have no idea what causes it but it comes and goes. My only problem is some constipation. Nothing a little MOM can't fix or Dulcolax. I read some surgeon cut 2-4oz stomachs and some 6-8oz which is why some lose more than others. I can say mine is not the 2-4oz because I can eat a full cup of yogurt or drink 4-6oz in one setting. Has anyone ever heard that? -
I have hunger pains missing food as well. It's not just my mind either. As some may say....I sustain from eating it, but still!!!! [emoji23] I can only have egg, nut butters, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt as my 3 meals a day purée stage. I'm trying so hard to get use to my new normal. I will do it, this will not be a waste of time for me. God brought me this far, I know HE will see me through it. It's hard now for us but it will be greater later. Stay encouraged my dear. Curious about rate of weight loss
Lawyeress replied to Lawyeress's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
No. I still can only eat about 3 oz at a time and to get the protein goal it is solid meat. I can't do yogurt for some odd reason, it feels as if it gets stuck. Rice makes me sick and I ate a bite of a friend's lasagna at Bravo and felt like I was going to explode so I don't do pasta. I don't do fruit or grain (although I did add about a tablespoon of quinoa to my chicken breast and handled it well. The Coke I had about 2 oz of and as a liquid it went down easy. The pizza I had I just ate the cheese and pepperoni. What roughly has been your percentage of weight loss? -
Has anyone tried protein chips? Debating on ordering some, they are 21g of protein and only 5g or carbs per bag. And now i kinda only have yogurt or string cheese. Any recommendations on soft protein bars would be nice🙂 im not a huge fan of real chewy ones. just starting regular foods, its scary going into the regular food world lol

My doctor suggest phase 1 foods are soft and high protein. 1 egg scrambled, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, 1/2 cup refried beans with 2 table spoons shredded cheese. These are just a few things. Try only one new food each day. Avoid any spicy seasoning. I'm 16 days out. I tried a scrambled egg 13 days post op and the pain was terrible! After that initial problem I have been doing pretty good. I just cannot drink or sip water without terrible cramping and pain.

Wow what a journey. 3/13/17 I will be 1 month post op with my bypass. Been on purée diet since day 3. I haven't been able to handle anything but yogurt, Popsicle, pudding, coffee and tea up until 3 days ago and now I am able to do cream of wheat and soups.. 2 more weeks of purée and then off to soft foods.. I have absolutely no regrets. I have lost 40 pounds since pre op diet..

I know how u feel. I was so over it. I stopped eating 8 days before I transitioned to purees although it wasn't the best thing to do but I sucked on sugar free popsicles and yogurt and orange juice(trop 50) and it kept me leveled also don't forget to hydrate hope this helps. -
What is everyone having for liquids ? Are you able to have yogurt or soup broth ? I need to expand my liquid choices !! I've been drinking a lot of vitamin water zero but I'm getting sick of it !

Top 5 (or10) Things You Loved/Used After Surgery
ANewLife4_Me replied to nh-vsgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just from my experience, I wouldn't load up on too much for post op. I did on some things and realized I couldn't stomach them after surgery. My staples now (in soft food stage): Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt, crush grape water enhancer, PB2 powder to mix with chocolate protein shake, string cheese, Jeannie-O turkey burgers. I hate the shakes, so I am trying to get the biggest bang for my buck on protein in food.... it is a chore to eat these days, so I don't want to waste bites if it doesn't have protein in it! I've never enjoyed plain water, so when I tried the Crush grape flavored enhancer... I was like a kid, it makes getting fluids in more enjoyable!!!!! -

Sugar free hot chocolate made with milk, eggs scrambled with onions and peppers and mozzarella cheese, cheese stick pan fried (dry pan--it fries in its own reduced fat goodness) until crispy and dipped in salsa, Greek yogurt with mandarin oranges (cuties, etc) separated into it, Jello instant sugar free chocolate pudding with extra unsweetened cocoa and protein powder whipped in along with the pudding mix -
Day 3 post-op, BMI 35, quick recovery but what next?
illailla replied to Jaguarftype's topic in The Guys’ Room
Yeah from what i've read on here some surgeons are pretty loose with their diet progression...mine wasn't and had a strict week by week plan Weeks 1-2: Full liquid 10 grams of protein per meal 6 meals a day (clear liquids) Weeks 3-4: Blended 10-15 grams protein per meal 4-6 meals a day (blended meat, fish, eggs, or tofu, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, bady food, cooked vegetables, fruit, soups,) Weeks 5-6: Low Residue 20 grams protein per meal 3-5 meals a day (lean poultry, fish, or lean ground meat, creamy nut butters, egg or egg beaters, soft cooked vegetables, light yogurt TOASTED bread) Weeks 7 and beyond: 20-25 grams of protein per meal 3 meals a day (fish, poultry, legumes cooked soft, fresh or canned vegetables and fruit, cooked cereals, potatoes not fried, whole grains like rice quinoa or barley) avoid sweet beverages, whole milk, citrus acidic foods, alcohol, caffeine, fried foods, breads with seeds, fruit with tough skins, high fat meals, soft gummy bread, sugar and sweets that's sort of a skeleton of what to eat if i forgot anything someone please add on -
I am 4 days post op. Up until now I have read everything quietly in the background never commented. I just wanted to say what a lovely supportive community this is. I had a nurse and my dietitician warn me away from the forums because people can be really negative and it won't help the healing process. But this thread proves them wrong. Thanks for being so supportive and human!! Jfcarjr.... I'm still struggling with the water sips. But it is starting to get easier. Just finished two tablespoons of yogurt and didn't have any issues... of course I used a baby spoon and just coated it and took a good 15 minutes to finish. But no pain in the process. Chin up!! We will get better and it will be all worth it when we can wear the new clothes we buy and look fabulous!!!

Random sneezing
Kimba Maria Wiggins replied to april_MKZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This just happened to me recently. I was on the bus and I was randomly sneezing and I didn't know why. Normally I would eat my breakfast (yogurt) on the way to my destination but this time I didn't and was sneezing until I got off the bus and ate my normal breakfast. -
I'm 10 days post op and I don't sip...but I don't gulp either. Even my doctor was wondering how was I doing this so early after surgery. My stomach isn't stretched, I feel the restriction when I eat something (like yogurt). I never had any stomach pain after surgery, not one twinge.
