  1. My surgery is on November 13, and I am going a little stir crazy these last few weeks. I feel like time is slowing down and I'm just ready for it to get here already and it's making me agitated. Has anyone else experienced that? It's probably partially because I'm miserable at my job five days a week and I'm looking forward to the time off, too.
  2. So I went today to see the surgeon n got a surgery date for April 8..I'm nervous and excited. I just hope my insurance approves the procedure. Starting my 2 week preop diet tomorrow.

    High Protein Jellos?

Me neither but I'm gonna order a few and try them. Sure would be convenient in those early weeks...

    Out of Country travel

I would be comfortable to travel abroad after 6 weeks. I'd be comfortable to LIVE abroad after about 6 months. Anytime I'd travel or live abroad, I'd make sure I was with someone trained to take out my fill if I needed it in an emergency and make sure I traveled with the correct needle, for emergency use only. This would be a great question to discuss at your surgical consult too! Good luck.

    Eating/drinking makes me sick UPDATE!

Thanks everyone. I will call today. I called my doc 2 weeks ago and the nurse acted like it wasn't a big deal. She said it sounded like reflux, and that i should take Prilosec twice a day, and Hyoscyamine every 4 hours.

    Newly Banded - hungry already

Just follow your doc's directions post op. I too was hungry from the start; in fact I came to in recovery ready (I thought! LOL) to eat a steak. I didn't though; it was 6 LONG weeks before I had my steak dinner. Hang in there; it is important now that you heal.

    Maintenance calories/ounces/x daily/ Food

You’re asking about maintenance, right? Confused bc everyone is answering about while they are losing. I am four and a half years post op. Been at goal since a year out. I have to eat about 5 smaller meals a day to get all my food in because my capacity is limited. Like a meal might be half a sirloin patty and a cup of salad. Anyhow I eat anywhere from 1800-2800 calories a day as a 5’6” 140-ish pound woman. I run about 20 miles a week and do 4-5 hours of heavy yoga.
  11. I understand. I have to drive three hours for the closest one in network or not. I would take the drive, in the end it will cost less and you wouldn't have to worry about coming up with the money. After all, if you can't afford the surgery you would have to wait until you could and then that would really suck. And what if you never came up with the money? Three hours is not really that long a drive. I do it almost every month between my two boys' psych and me with my doctors. Anyway, just my thoughts. Hope it helps.
  12. I start my pre-op diet in the morning. For the first week I get two Protein shakes a day and a reasonable dinner (200 calories and 20 grams of protein). The second week is 4 to 5 Protein Shakes a day. I get banded on 7/30/07. I was hoping I wouldn't get tired. YOu know how sometimes when you're on a diet the second or third day you get your second wind? I'm hoping that happens with me. I've taken off work from Monday to Wednesday this week. My pre-op is Wednesday. Goodluck!!!
  13. I started my 2-week pre-op diet on Thursday: A.M.: pick two of the following: fruit, Cereal, oatmeal, egg, toast Noon: Protein shake (may use milk/soy milk and add fruit for taste) Dinner: one serving lean meat and one serving green vegetables P.M. Snack: another Protein Shake I am sooooooo tired. :notagree All I want to do is sleep! Is this normal? I am also still taking my regular multiple Vitamins.

    Third Meeting...

I went to my third meeting tonight it was about exercising!!! I still don't know if it was helpful or not! The speaker really didn't hold my interest. I have signed up at a gym, now it's just finding the time to go. At weigh in I didn't gain or lose anything so I guess that's good!! Going to find the time to workout this week and I will try very hard to make it a habit!!!

    BANDSTER HELL!!!

Well I haven't really lost any weight in the past couple weeks. Still 27lbs down and stuck at 252lbs! :bored I had my first fill 2 weeks ago and I do feel some restriction, but I am still able to eat quite a bit. I started counting calories last week to try to get this scale to move. I've been staying under 1000cal/day so I'm hoping that helps. I haven't weighed myself since Tuesday, but I will when I go to the hospital tomorrow for my 2nd fill. I absolutely hate counting calories so I'm hoping with proper restriction I won't have to. We'll see if the second fill will get me there! I have less than 2 weeks left for Las Vegas and was hoping to lose 13lbs by then. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen so I'll take ANY loss at this point. On a positive note, I've been working out everyday and my body is definitely changing so I feel good about that!!!
  16. I start my 8 day pre op diet today. I have to go to Old Chicago tonite with my mom since she can't drive in the dark, and she is meeting friends there, and asked me to drive her. I will be bringing my shake with me. Even though this is tough, I can't believe my time is finally here. I've been working hard (just like everyone else) jumping through insurance hoops, countless doctor appointments, and medical tests and it's finally here. My heart is so full of happiness and peace right now knowing that I will be sleeved one week from tomorrow. Hopefully I will still be this happy in a couple of days...LOL
  17. I am a little nervous about surgery tomorrow, but I have all faith that things are going to go well. I will be happy to have the band out. I will be even happier in 4 weeks when I get my sleeve surgery.

    Help!! I ate turkey

Yesterday for lunch I ate about 2oz of slice turkey and now it won't go down. I couldn't eat dinner last night. I am only 3 weeks post op and it was the first solid food i have had. What can i do to feel better? It is sitting at the top of my stomach.

    second filling?

sounds like textbook normal to me. you'll find it all over this board and any others you research on. the band sometimes takes two or three or even 4 fills to get to where you're losing at a regular rate. in the meantime, you sort of have to utilize what you know about choosing the right foods to keep from gaining weight. but yes, it's very normal. welcome and good luck to you!
  20. Hey, Yes, I will contact my surgeon on Monday, but until then ... Starting yesterday, after I eat anything (cottage cheese, fat free Soup, etc) I have mild to moderate heart burn. I have never had heartburn before (well, maybe a few times in my life, but nothing consistent like this). A few days ago I was eating pureed refried Beans and I ate 1/2 cup and I was very very full after (this was the first time where I have been "over full" since getting the band). Has anyone had anything like this before? Do you think I have an early slip? I am freaking out completely. I was banded 2 weeks ago, and my band is empty. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!
  21. I started an early pre-op diet one week ahead, just to get used to the idea. Drank Atkins Protein Meal Replacements shakes for breakfast and lunch, then a light dinner. This was a big help. When you get hungry--drink more Water. You won't have time to eat, you will be busy running to the bathroom. Seriously, as the fat starts to break down, it is disposed of through the organs and then into the bladder and the water helps flush it out. My surgeon then put me on their recommended Protein drinks for the last 2 weeks(2 more days of pre-op for me). Good luck to you.
  22. I saw my surgeon about a week and a half ago and he said I was a great candidate for the surgery. My initial weigh in was 227lbs and within four days of diet I was down to 223lbs. My surgeon has my goal of losing 3lbs for the surgery to be at 220 lbs but even though I've been watching what I eat I'm not losing anything! I am ovulating so would that be the hold up?

    Pre-op diet & ovulating

4 pounds in a week and a half is great. The other 3 pounds will come. Try to increase your Water, Protein, and exercise. You will get there.
  24. I've lost 13 lbs. and was banded on 3/31. I don't get a fill until 5/13. I may push it back a week or so, as I have had diarrhea for the past 5 days and still counting....:tt2: I definitely am ready for the first fill as up until the previous 5 days, I could eat anything and was having a hard time controlling my portions....
  25. Be very careful about eating solid foods this soon unless your surgeon says it's okay. Part of the first six weeks or so after surgery is to allow your body time to heal up. Your band was stitched in place on your stomach wall. Those stitches need time to heal up. If you eat solids before you should, you run the risk of affecting the healing of those stitches. Just because you didn't feel anything doesn't mean it's okay to eat improperly. As to your two pounds loss, that's good to have (as is any weight loss), but it's normal to lose a fair amount in the few weeks right after surgery. Your body is getting rid of fluids taken in during the surgery, and your system is adjusting to how you're eating now. So a certain amount is weight lost is normal, and you should see even more weight coming off over the next few weeks. But again, the focus should be on healing up. Take things slow and take it easy on yourself. The weight WILL come off, but you need to adapt to the stages of recovery. Developing patience is the hardest part of this. Good luck with things. Dave
