  1. I’m doing quite well. I was 222 on October 1 and I was 167.5 today. My goal was to hit 155 that I now feel confident that I will hit. So 54.5 lbs down. I am 5’6” and now I have a BMI of 27. I started with a BMI of 35. I may lower the goal when I get there but I’m not sure how that will look at 55 years old. I feel so much better than I did in July at my first appointment. I was 228 then so technically I am down 61 since the summer. How are YOU doing?

    My journey

Welcome, and congratulations on the first 30 pounds lost on your journey!!! Do you have a surgery date? I just joined yesterday and I am also pre-op, My journey began on July 29th, 2019. I weighted 395 pounds. Through changes in diet, exercising daily, and taking Ozempic—all three of which I call the current contents of my weight loss tool box—I have lost 105 pounds so far. I am having bypass surgery on February 24th, 2020. I look forward to following you and your progress as we go on our respective health journeys!
  3. OMG I'm so thankful for this thread! I thought I was the ONLY one! I had a total abdominal hysterectomy back in April of 2017 and I was sleeved in April of 2019. I have lost 71lbs in 9 months. Although I am grateful, I feel like I should be further along. I'm almost certain the hysterectomy plays a part. It's so frustrating ☹️

    Losing More By Eating More

I haven't had surgery yet, but I have been dieting since July 2019 as my surgeon wanted me to get my BMI down to 50 before surgery. I started at trying to stay at or under 2400 calories per day and as I lost weight I dropped it to 2000 per day. After about 3 months I was comfortable on 1600 calories a day. I also noticed that if I stalled or even wasn't stalling that if I had a couple of days closer to my upper limits and then cranked it back down to lower I had my best week of weight loss. I haven't done much research but I think this is labelled as a calorie confusion diet or metabolic confusion diet. This is where you alternate between high calorie and low calorie days. I also did 16:8 intermittent fasting. Your body thinks it is starving on the lower calories and then you bump your metabolism back up with high calorie day.

    Post your stats

I am scheduled for surgery on February 24th, and I can relate to being ready to go! On July 29th, 2019, I weighed 395.4 pounds, my heaviest weight. Since that date, through a combination of diet changes, daily exercise and Ozempic, I have lost 105 pounds. My goal for weight loss before surgery was 100 pounds, and I will continue to lose before surgery. My goal weight following surgery is 145 pounds. I have found that the small things are what I notice the most. For example, not being winded walking from my car to my office, or not needing an extender for the seatbelt on airplanes! I also love how much energy I have, even though I have nearly eliminated caffeine (sans a Diet Coke every once in a while :)).

    3 Month Stall. WTF?!

I am 14 months out from surgery. I pretty much stabilized at 12 months. But I don't have any more weight to lose, so, that's probably a good thing. lol. I hit my personal goal weight at 10 months out..

Has anyone made it past the 6 month stall!???

I didn't change much except I added a handful of Almonds. Excercise or not didn't seem to make a difference. Going from losing easily the first 4 months and dropping over 10 pounds a month, I just had to adjust that maybe 5 - 8 pounds a month was going to be the new standard. I'm sure measurements were changing, but I only own a ruler so they are hard to take. I'm sticking to the program and still very happy. Going down is better than up. Taking a month-long view is better than a daily view. You have done a terrific job and the last 20 or so are going to be the hardest. The end is so close. Keep it up.

    Non Scale Victories

Casually training 😅 I refuse to commit to one until I hit 10 miles with AT LEAST a sub 12 min/mi pace. The fall half marathon near me kicks everyone off who doesn’t keep under 14min/mi and I would be mortified/filled with rage if it happened to me. 😣
  12. So, I've experienced quite a few NSVs as of recent. I can cross my legs (not super comfortably yet, but hey); I'm in a size 14/16, down from a 26; and I see my collarbones. Yay! 2 1/2 months out - 50 lbs lost post surgery and an additional 54 lbs was lost before (on my own, July 2019). I'm walking fast and exercising amazingly. This, all from the woman who got winded walking down the block to her car. Life is good!

    Non Scale Victories

I understand completely! I felt great until mile 6 then I was like “okay this isn’t fun anymore 😭🤬”. It’s going to take some serious work to get to 10 and 13 miles and I’ll have to figure out at what point to start adding some fuel/water during the run and what won’t cause cramping. It’s been a fun/painful journey for sure 😅
  14. I'm stalled. Have lost 1 lb in the past 4 weeks. I am so terrified that I am done losing. I have 8 lbs till goal and am hoping to loose another 10. So 18lbs total. I keep battling the same 1-2 on fluctuation. Any experience?? Help me please.

I actually prefer not to die

Yes, she survived and gave me the courage to get a referral to a bariatric surgeon. She also convinced her husband to do the surgery. While I was at UMC getting my surgery, he was at TMC getting his (also with your doc). My friend is 4 years post op and looks great and has been in maintenance mode since year one. Her husband is down 75 pounds since surgery and 8-10 inches off his waist. I am down 75 pounds since May 20 (surgery Sept 4), am below my surgeons goal, and near MY goal. Anyhow, I know others who also had your doc and they have all been happy with their results. I only went with a different doc because my PCP referred me to a different doc. Anyhow... he may not be a female with big boobs... but sounds like he is good at what he does, and I would prefer a skilled doc than a hot doc (although the hot doc is always a bonus).

    Weight Loss Stall

I've had some stalls, some little pound loss, I'm 5 months in, with holidays, birthdays, and all. I just keep to the program with the end goal in mind. I've changed my goals a bit as I'm no longer losing 10 pounds a month, I'm now happy with 5 - 7 pounds. The weight didn't come on in 5 months it won't go off that quickly too. Good news I can stay in my clothes longer.

    So pissed

I never had to have the test. Maybe it is because I'm a non-smoker and have worked with the same doctor for 10 years. I'm sorry for your delay.
  18. I'm new here and just saying hello. In December I finished all of my preliminary tests to see if I'm a candidate for gastric surgery and met my surgeon on 12/23/19 for my "decision visit." He said I was a good candidate for either bypass or sleeve and that I could decide which surgery I wanted. I elected the sleeve because it is slightly less scary to me. Now I try to make lifestyle changes while waiting 4-8 weeks for insurance approval. I've already cut out caffeinated/carbonated drinks with the exception of the marginal amount of caffeine in unsweet iced tea. (I had already cut out sugary drinks for Diet Coke a long time ago... and actually being off the aspartame made me realize it is an appetite stimulant for me). In short, my journey is just getting started...

    February Surgery ?

So what is yall's Pre-op diet? I feel like mine is weird. They just said low cal, low carb, and high protein for 10 days prior and nothing to eat or drink after midnight the day of. I just think it's weird cause almost everyone else has to do some sort of liquid diet prior to surgery.

    Pleural Effusion?

Was sleeved in November. Pain in chest and back persisted to get worse. Went to my surgeons and he said I will be ok, my lung is probably trying to collapse and then he sent me off as if it were nothing. A few days later I go to the urgent care, they take an xray and my left lung was shaded white. They send me by Ambulance to the hospital. Long story short, I was in the hospital for 10 days. They said I had a Pleural Effusion. Drained my lung a few times and I went home the 10th day with fluid still there. Its been a few weeks since I left the hospital and I still have pain. Not as much pain. Will it every go away? Seeing the Pulmonologist tomorrow.

    Fruits

During weight loss phase I didn't eat any fruit, save for one time early on that I ate like 2 tsp of my mom's fruit salad and had a serious dumping episode. Once in maintenance, blueberries are my go-to fruit. I will also have other berries, and I may have a 1/4 of an apple or like 5-10 grapes in my salads sometimes as well. Very rarely anything else.

    My @ss hurts 😢

I had ass pain from sitting in the early months as well. If you can stand it, do some squats and other butt exercises to put some padding back on. It may take a while, but I think it works. I started doing them semi-regulary starting Feb 2019, and then full-on-regularly since Aug 2019. I no longer have sitting-ass pain (and while my butt still looks pan-cakey, its less so than before, LOL). P.S. I HATE squats, but I do them anyway.

Hi, I'm new here. I'm scheduled for 2/19 but am still on the fence about which procedure. I need to make up my mind really soon!

    Lap band to gastric bypass

When I got my lap band 11 years ago I lived on this forum (I think it had a different name then, but I can't remember what it was). There was lots of current for then information about the band, but it was a new WLS, and we all were so excited and happy with our bands! I lost 80 pounds then and thought it was the greatest think since sliced bread. But there was NO long term results or issues arising yet, so none of us knew what awaited us down the road. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have wasted 10 years dicking around with the band and would have gone straight for the bypass.
